[Music] we begin with a dream of year-round summers on a beautiful island this is fuerteventura and here in a new world we're reapproaching that dream shared by so many so join us as we venture on a voyage of discovery a fact-finding mission a fun-filled journey come in and make yourselves at home in fuerteventura in the atlantic ocean a short flight from much of europe and the uk lies a much-loved archipelago of the seven canary islands the four most known are tenerife gran canaria lanzarotti and ford ventura [Music] a rich history has created six municipalities each offering something unique along with the shared glory of year-round warm weather and jaw dropping scenery little wonder then that you'll find fuda ventura's beautiful backgrounds in many big tv and movie franchises such as wonder woman star wars the eternals and the forthcoming sci-fi epic foundation [Music] and then of course there are the beaches in a word stunning and the reasons that people continually flock to fight a ventura four just keep on coming well basically i came here on holiday and i fell in love with the place and i decided to stay i've moved over in 2007 worked several places then i met nikki raised this family and now i own my own business for four years running i moved over here when i was 18 which was 20 years ago with my parents i had thiago here when i was 26 years old and he's 12 now i live here in colorado fuste and i speak three and a half languages english spanish and portuguese and i'm also learning french i have two dogs and two turtles i go to school in el matoral i like hanging out with all my friends i like spiderman i like going to the beach and swim in the sea it's almost like stepping back in time it's very family orientated place it's quiet there are very few places in the world that would give you that peace and tranquility i've done some voluntary work at the local cats home that was for about three years and in the last few years we actually joined a pantomime group that made money for charity i would struggle to think of anywhere else i would prefer to be and i love it because my washing always goes on the line here it doesn't have to go in a tumble dryer that's the point in which we end the interview that's the kicker we used to come here every year on holiday and then one year we were here and the question just popped up of why don't we move here we moved as a family my parents and my sister then we started school to learn the language yeah i became fluent my parents also learnt spanish with jamie and we're just in love with the island since we're small until now just purely in love with everything it has to offer since 2012 my home in florida ventura has been here in coletta de fuste a popular resort on the island we're about 12 minutes drive from the airport and our neighborhood on the mini mountain up there overlooks two glorious purpose-built sandy bays [Music] normally there's a steady flow of tourists throughout the year because it's nearly always warm however in august we usually find we're just that little bit busier [Music] it's a similar story for our friends up in corraleko another family favorite half an hour north of the airport [Music] between us is the island's capital puerta del rosario a cosmopolitan shopaholics haven and if you invest in puerto ventura you'll probably spend some of your time here in the capital sorting out your paperwork don't worry we're giving you lots of things to help you our home employer ventura dot tv website is a constantly growing and evolving resource we're also going to be bringing in different experts in their field onto the program throughout the tv series but if all this is feeling a little too real too quickly the perfect antidote is just a few minutes up the road [Music] here's a great place to lose yourself the dunes national park for those who like the wilderness this is the ultimate bear beauty a short distance from another of fuda ventura's popular resorts hey here in corolleco popular doesn't mean crowded and that goes for the whole of the island because there is plenty of space is about as developed as florida ventura gets thanks to a long-standing ban on further high-rise buildings in fact the whole island is a designated biosphere to ensure that property developers build responsibly respecting the whole area's status as a national park and that national park stretches beyond the land halfway between fuerteventura's coast and neighbouring lanzarote [Music] sailing from corolleco to the gorgeous nature reserve islet of los lobos is scrupulously monitored and no overnight stays are allowed [Music] [Music] but generally the island welcomes positive responsible progress the local renewable energy program has really picked up lately and many of the towns now enjoy world-class internet speeds thanks to the growing fiber optic network even so this is all happening in the wake of a worldwide shake-up following brexit and a global pandemic is puerto ventura still a viable land of opportunity for everyone to find out i chatted with local estate agent alex goldacre what's available who can afford it well at the end of the day i mean everything's available you know i mean we have obviously from the the lower end of the scale you know the 60 70 80 90 000 euro mark all the way up to a million euros i mean at the moment today obviously we're at uh we're a real nice property that gets somebody onto the property ladder the sort of people that might buy this kind of property it could be anybody i mean anybody looking for a long-term rental investment this would work really well a little holiday property just for themselves to come and enjoy the sun this is a perfect option it's got a lovely communal pool a short short little walk away obviously south facing where we're on the sun now so it's ticks every box if somebody wants to buy this to let i mean what sort of paperwork are we talking about and is that complicated i mean yes there is paperwork but not complicated at all i mean we're here to actually hold your hand throughout that whole whole process you terrace so let me uh let me take you inside this property does come fully furnished nice lounge space you have here obviously sofa which does turn into a sofa bed plenty of uh storage space as well as a mounted tv on the on the wall there as you can see this particular property it is open plan so again it does work really well from a holiday rental point of view um you know you have obviously a back terrace that we'll go and see in one second and that front terrace that we just came from so you do get a nice breeze through the whole property as well kitchenwise as you can see nice little breakfast bar uh just across there you have everything that you need in the kitchen oven hob microwave fridge freezer below the work surface as well and just through this door here we have got the downstairs wc so again for convenience this is really nice you haven't always got to go upstairs from the wc obviously going to walk straight out onto the back terrace here okay coming from the kitchen area you actually have this bacterius and this is something that not every single property on castillo mar has you have extra facilities here to be able to put your boiler outside washing machine and an extra freezer if you wanted to as well coming from downstairs obviously this is a duplex property so it is split but upstairs is nice because it is your own little area you have got a lovely reformed bathroom in there nice walk-in shower nice big wash hand basin and the nice thing is is that you do have a window for light ventilation as well coming from the bathroom into the bedroom here again the bedrooms are great size you've got a full wardrobe there nice size bed in this and you've still got a lot of space to actually walk around a couple of benefits in this bedroom you do have air conditioning here and a ceiling fan just in case and the best thing is is that you actually walk out onto your private terrace on the terrace again plenty of space you know this particular property does have a nice kind of outside couch furniture two two single chairs a little table and again south facing so you do benefit from the sun all day long [Music] so the dream is still available to those wanting their own getaway several times a year but what about the people who want to go all in and permanently live in the canary islands before heading back up north for tips on this i took some time out for a quick sale with some friends of player el castillo because contrary to some beliefs fuerteventura isn't always windy and a 17 knot north easterly is too good to miss plus thanks to the kovid 19 pandemic i'm a little underexercised and getting into my wetsuit has become a slight struggle and all its relations are a source of ongoing fun on the island but we'll save all that for another episode but now it's back to the task in hand to investigate further i headed for the timeless windmills of via verdi to meet someone who made this charming country retreat his family's permanent home in fuerteventura nearly two decades ago joining me now is john goldacre from goldendager estates managing director and founder of the company john absolute pleasure to have you here on home importer ventura.tv steve i'm really excited and really pleased to be having this opportunity with you today being on the first episode of home in fort ventura dot tv and from what you've told me it really has got an exciting future so i mean it's really really a great opportunity a new beginning for us of course here at home and foreign ventura dot tv but i mean you're an experienced hand at this because you've been doing this for 20 years absolutely i mean how did your journey begin here on florida ventura all those years ago i was actually living in tenerife at the time i've been in the canaries for about 25 years now we came here to fort ventura and literally fell in love with the place i mean i was you know blown away with all the beaches across all of the island just the whole landscape and the the the freedom lack of traffic it's still like at the very first day you know i mean it's just like eyes open all the time i mean there's just so many incredible places he's never got old for you then i'll never never never never will because it's just like i always call ford ventura an island of discovery yeah there's always different things to see and you know today where we are is sometimes a place where many people don't even see or find and it's right on our doorstep here a lot of people think of fuerteventura as a beach resort but then here we are out in the sticks out in the countryside it's a totally different landscape a totally totally different landscape of course looking around us we've got all the uh the mountains and really things that were formed out of the volcanic activity which is where fort of ventura came from zillions of years ago so why via verde via verdi really fitted a lot of the things for me we're 10 minutes out of coral echo we are 15 minutes from puerto de rosario people tend to drive through via verdi and don't really see very much because there's one main road we've actually got one of the oldest caves here in the whole of the canary islands and it's got one of the only places in the world where you can find this particular white spider as you probably well know yes behind us we have a huge great mountain called esken fraga many people come walking up there it's just got so many different places we've got some fabulous restaurants here so should we go and take a look for sure absolutely let's go [Music] so john we've come down the hill next to the main road on via verdi but it's not really busy though is it no no no it's never really been a huge amount of traffic we're stood in the car park of uh one of the rural hotels that we have here in via verdi we can actually smell the wood burning i've got a rumbling in my stomach it's a very very small hotel got a beautiful little pool some of the buildings that you'll see as we go through via verde they can be 400 years old behind us here we've got another little restaurant called la vie it's a very very intimate little restaurant only opens in the evening time it's not much bigger than a house is it it's not it's it's actually it's like being in a front room really it's it i mean it is incredible so we've moved on a little bit further and we're actually standing outside the church beautiful beautiful little church and here in the center of via verde is where all the fiestas are and we've got some lovely restaurants around us as well manduka eskenfraga overlooking at the mountain there we've actually got casamakers a name synonymous with really quality food you can go to every single restaurant and they're all very different in what their delivery and choice and and and how they are and the actual feel and the ambience of the restaurant they're incredible [Music] so now we're at school now it's called the uh the little village school in fact uh my granddaughter goes to this uh goes to this school she's five years old they're actually moving to a new facility just down the road here very very soon just behind us over here is the little bakery where you can come and get your fresh bread just up the road behind us over here we've got one of the ferry terriers when you're doing diy stuff at the weekend and you can see the ocean and you can see the parts of lanzarote but it's nice to see lots of green in one place yeah [Music] so even further down the road we're now outside el orono el orno really really fabulous restaurant that literally translates as the oven does it absolutely it's actually cooked on coals and things like that again in there so really a super winter place to be as well uh because it's super super warm uh from that point of such a thing as winter out here not really no but i mean uh across the road from us where we're standing now we've got uh another little restaurant called el morel a traditional tapas type place just one little village in puerto ventura and there's probably not enough time even if you stayed out here for two weeks to do everything we're just scratching the surface here with what we've done today i mean it's uh it really is amazing brilliant so where are we off to now well where we're gonna go to now is a really really fabulous villain just under 900 000 euros what do you get for your money in comparison to say the uk do you get more for your money out here uh i've got to tell you you get a lot more for your money out here i mean in terms of space size quality what you're buying for 900 000 euros in the uk would be five or six million it's just such an exciting place because i love property and i love just seeing different properties really you got me very excited now i'm expecting a rock star mansion now but not just a thousand euros take a look we will take a look wow this is amazing this this really is a rock star mansion well i i was hoping that we would uh blow you away steve well yeah it's going to take us a while to walk around this house i think these views are amazing aren't they and all this land that's all part of the property is it all this land that we can see right in front of us just here is all part of the property i mean it is a colossal amount of property that you're going to get for your money here i mean we've got uh really a lot of open plan features hopefully it's going to finish off the day really really well i'm going to go through to the tradesman's entrance and let you in through the front door just over there you have a separate tradesman's entrance i'm a tradesman so of course absolutely and we're heading up this way you're going up that way absolutely i'll see you on the other side okay [Music] come in steve and take a look at this am i getting up this is like a multi-million pound mansion [Music] but but it's not even a million is it how much is it 895 000 euros buys you all of this i think i need to sit down let's go through to the lounge and we can take uh take a rest i don't want you falling over oh well what a lovely room this room is absolutely fabulous i mean this room is full of natural light i mean the views from here are incredible the way that it's been designed all the outside comes in because you've got these great big fault the weight patio doors so so open so much natural light it's absolutely incredible it's wonderful isn't it can we sit down there of course absolutely let's go and take a seat is this a typical gold acre estates type property well it's one of our typical properties but every client is important doesn't matter how much money you've got i mean we've got a great team of people behind us 15 members of staff it's like the united nations in our uh in our office i mean so many different nationalities so many different people so much different culture going on this is really what's you know won as our awards the biggest one for us was best real estate agent in the whole of spain in the international property awards that is quite some accolade because i'm guessing there are quite a few estate agents in spain there's a lot of estate agents in spain there was 450 entries when our name was called out in london it was just absolutely amazing it was such an incredible feeling the academy awards of of real estate this is the real academy awards of real estate yes being an estate agent out here i assume is quite different to being an estate agent in a country like the uk for example when i first moved out here i felt quite out of my depth not knowing the language and not really knowing how the system works so i assume that's when real estate agents really come into their own here absolutely steve i mean this is one of the most important things of distinction between the uk market and here right i mean you know our first contact with people really is via the internet we're on a journey with a client we afford the people the time we had a client once we started a journey with this client and this journey lasted 10 years because from the day that we first met them to the day that they actually were able to buy their dream home was actually 10 years it was an amazing journey together they used to come and see us when they used to come on holiday i consider our business part of a family you know and our clients are part of that family a lot of our staff have been with us for a very very long time i mean we've been through you know different crisis yes i was gonna say because it was you know when i first started coming out here um it was the financial crisis so i know that affected the island deeply and then of course recently with uh with what's happened with the kobit 19 pandemic and and brexit of course on the face of it two huge things but um you know it hasn't affected the market and the way you might think no i mean this this particular scenario that covert has created uh where people haven't been able to travel and things like that it's been very very different to the uh the financial crisis uh you know everybody was saying oh the properties are going to drop and things like that but but they they haven't right because don't forget forti ventura is not reliant on one single marketplace the island is made up of so many different nationalities we've actually sold a lot of properties by personal video presentations with the client live yeah and looking at every single app that's a really good idea and people have made their buying decisions a client of mine for example that i sold a property to just recently they're not coming out until 2022 that everything will be done on that property i mean before they don't even have to leave the uk the financial crisis of before was all about money nobody had any the banks were desperate you know people had bought at elevated prices the mortgage market had gone mad in terms of that you could borrow a hundred percent of the value of the property plus the costs so people really had nothing in there and they were walking away almost uh the banks didn't have any money coming in they had a lot of property around their necks and so there's different dynamics in the situation today to uh to the 2008-2010 financial crisis really on the facebook foreign ventura is a holiday destination um people always associate it with disposable income what you're saying is that people will invest in the island um you know because property here it doesn't actually fluctuate as much as people might think now you've got some uh you know there is limited property here on fort ventura when you actually look at it against you know some of the other islands on the mainland the most important thing with clients buying with mortgages for example you know again it's about making sure that there is a comfort level there and where we're talking to them about their financial circumstances and affordability really at the end of the day but of course the other the other driver for them here in terms of being able to uh pay for that we're we're 12 months of the year holiday island we never stop and this is what people take advantage of in terms of being able to rent their properties out to pay for some towards the contribution of running costs mortgages maybe but these are the things that we guide everybody on you know what it's about sitting down and talking to you about what do you want to achieve and how do you want to achieve it and it's about making that adventure with the clients making it fun for them because it's a nerve-wracking experience you know trying to calm nerves trying to recognize what people are trying to achieve out of their property purchase there's got to be a huge element of trust in there there is a massive element of trust crossing that threshold into a big real estate office in terms of uh you know everybody hates real estate agents but uh well i didn't say that well of course i mean you know but i mean it is about bringing that uh human element to it all they're buying their home in fort ventura the key thing for us is making sure that they buy that safely everything that i've done with the company since day one is to be able to protect the clients you know whether you be a buyer or you're a seller right the important thing and the ethos of gold acre estates is making sure you're protected all the way through that's why we have specialist people in our business that look after different sections do you get people that say i know this might sound like a really silly question but absolutely and we've actually got a sign on our desk that uh on our main desk in the office there that says there is no such thing as a silly question really because everything everything if that person actually has a question it's important to them and it's important that we actually get an answer for them one of the things today big thing brexit okay we don't know all the answers today and we know a lot of them because obviously that's been part of our job to make sure that we do but but there's always something that we we don't know but we actually have higher authorities lawyers and things like that that we can get answers and be able to guide people these are the most important things because even when you've bought your property you're still our client yeah there must be a big element of after sales there this villa that we're in today these particular owners have been clients for ours for many many many many years and uh of course the next project's underway for them there is so much to talk about uh but we can't put it all on one program so i think we're gonna have to come back and do it in bits and pieces real estate is such a big subject but steve i want to ask you a question now how about us now actually seeing the rest of this beautiful villa i thought you're never going to ask let's do it let's go i think we'll take the owner's wing first so through here we've got a wc with shower and things like that there is a door here to the outside so of course this is really for when guests are here in the pool and of course from the lounge area here one of the guest bedrooms just here and then as we close the door here its own sweet bathroom we then go along the corridor further as you can see again lots of natural light looking out to the garden and here we start to enter the master master bedroom absolutely huge this section here behind me is all of the walking wardrobe area from there here the owner's suite and as you can see it's pretty spacious fabulous bath toilet tucked away over in the corner here plenty of storage space over in the corner and just gorgeous materials used in building this particular property back through the wardrobe area the elvis bedroom huge space big big picture windows looking out over to the pool area here a gorgeous room in its own right it's a real real wow factor and coming upstairs here this is a really special little area that we actually have here steve i mean beautiful beautiful marble used on the stairwell here [Music] a really fabulous uh area upstairs here where you just come to be that little bit quieter fabulous views all the way around down towards lanzarote los lobos you can see the atlantic ocean from here you've even got an access door here to the outside where if you wanted to do you could actually have some sun beds and things like that again this little section just here has been built to stop any wind so you can actually sit here you're looking all the way across your garden towards the pool and it's just wow i mean for me incredible so here we are back in the lounge steve and let's go now to the other side of the uh the villa here as i was talking about earlier bringing the outside in everywhere where you go you've got big patio doors that fall back and you can just walk straight outside back through the hallway here fabulous fabulous kitchen again the whole theme of light airiness has been followed through a full range on the kitchen this side with granite work surfaces fabulous oven hob and that's your view whilst having your breakfast coming through this side the tradesman's entrance here which is where i came through before utility area just here and then we come into the guest accommodation the guest lounge area here so everybody's got their own space you know so it can make a big family home fabulous fabulous place for rental if somebody wanted it and here we have bedroom with wardrobe twin beds in here its own private bathroom just uh just here again walk-in shower toilet and wash hand basin let's go and see some of the other bits here we've got further patio doors leading to the outside so you're never stuck you haven't got to walk all the way around the house i mean the owners really thought a lot about things when they were building this particular property you haven't got to walk all the way from one side just to go outside you can get to the outside from anywhere behind us here another fabulous bedroom with its own ensuite bathroom here walk-in shower toilet this room is incredible again incredible size lovely wardrobes windows that open to the outside on both sides window behind us where you've got a lovely view to the pool from that point of view we're going to go and move outside to some of this space that we actually have just outside here this whole property is designed to shield you from any wind the wind traditionally comes from the north which is in that direction over that way and so in this area here it's very very protected you've got a really huge open space leading to the to the pool area a gorgeous pool that literally has all-day sunshine mount esque and fragger here that actually dominates the whole of uh via verdi is just in the background so again features in a lot of the things in via verdi and this particular property's got a fabulous view of that let's go up the stairs here lobos and lanzarote in that direction we can see the ocean over here we can see the ocean between the mountains just over here the panoramic views are amazing lovely fabulous views down across to the pool area i think this property can deliver you absolutely everything that you need [Music] so two very different homes two contrasting budgets one amazing island
