Welcome to Aqua Dome, the most iconic thermal spa hotel in the Alps Our journey to Aqua Dome starts in Innsbruck in the heart of the Austrian Alps Surrounded by the stunning peaks of the Tirolean Alps,  the views during landing at Innsbruck are truly astounding In winter, Innsbruck’s airport activity increases significantly due to the high number of skiers traveling to the region Innsbruck’s airport is a single-runway facility, with its asphalt paved strip stretching for 2,000 m (6,562 ft) A large poster in the baggage reclaim area shows our destination: Aqua Dome Hotel & Spa Aqua Dome can arrange airport transfers (170 euros one way) The drive from Innsbruck to Aqua Dome takes about one hour Aqua Dome Hotel & Spa is located in the beautiful Ötztal Valley, close to the tiny Austrian town of Längenfeld The design of Aqua Dome – which consists of two connected sites (the spa & the hotel) - fits into the mountainous landscape The hotel features a traditional yet modern Alpine exterior The use of wood, stone and large windows in the hotel’s façade reflects the natural beauty of the surrounding Ötztal Valley On the inside, the hotel features a warm Alpine decor, blending classic, contemporary and local farmhouse design The lobby’s open-plan layout, wood panelling and earthy tones capture the nature of the Ötztal mountains At the heart of the lobby is a magnificent bar area, complete with a piano (for evening entertainment) and a mirrored ceiling The passionate bar team has selected well over 100 types of gin, taking even connoisseurs into a whole new world of flavors Right behind the bar is a cozy lounge with an open fire, where several comfortable seats are arranged around coffee tables The lobby opens to an outdoor terrace with nice views A glass wall behind the bar is stocked with fine wines and charcuterie Have you ever stayed at Aqua Dome? If so, what was your experience? Leave a comment Aqua Dome Hotel features more than 200 accommodations, all fitted with an Alpine decor that creates a homey atmosphere Room categories range from cozy double rooms to panoramic suites with fireplaces to spacious “Raumwunder” family suites During my visit, I stayed in this room (room category: Auszeit Double Room) The room features a queensize bed, a sitting area, and a panoramic terrace with a view of the mountains The room looks inviting thanks to the wood accents mixed with warm earth tones The ensuite bathroom is equipped with one wash basin and a bathtub (which also doubles as the shower) The room’s mini-bar is stocked with complimentary non-alcoholic drinks (juices, sparkling water and still water) Right behind the lobby bar is Aqua Dome’s sole restaurant The restaurant is a huge space, divided into four different dining rooms, each with their own unique furnishing concepts The restaurant was recently modernized in a new style, with a glass extension and enormous panoramic windows Inspired by the alpine surroundings, vibrant grass green and dark cranberry red dominate in two of the rooms Each night, the restaurant serves a five-course gourmet dinner, which is combination of a buffet and à la carte dishes Dinner dishes include delicacies such as Ötztal trout in alpine caviar and breasts from farm ducks with French mountain thyme The next morning ... Each morning, the restaurants offers a breakfast spread, from freshly baked treat & smoked delicacies to a variety of cheeses The most captivating part of Aqua Dome Hotel is its location right next to the pretty phenomenal Aqua Dome thermal spa A heated, underground walkway connects the Aqua Dome Hotel to the main spa complex The spa can also be reached by an outdoor walkway The spa – which is located slightly uphill from the hotel – boasts an eye-catching, futuristic architecture with a jagged roof At the heart of the Aqua Dome Spa is the Crystal Center, a huge 3-level glass structure which houses 2 large swimming pools   The pools are filled with thermal spring water (one at a temperature of 93°F/34°C & one at a temperature of 97°F/36°C) The Crystal Center's huge glass front offers a view of the mountainous surroundings of the Ötztal Alps In 1997, a borehole in Längenfeld tapped thermal water from a depth of 1,865 m (6,118 ft) for the first time A subsequent investment of more than 70 million euros put Längenfeld & Austrian Tyrol on the map of spa tourism in one go What followed is a success story that continues to this day: the spa welcomed almost seven million guests since its opening Hotel guests get unlimited access to the spa’s fitness center  The spa features a garment-free sauna area, which is home to a variety of saunas, such as a stone sauna and a sauna canyon The sauna area offers "sauna infusion", in which sauna masters swing their towel and invite guests on a scented journey The Heustadl sauna features rustic Tyrolean charm, with oils from the hay in the crib unfolding and exuding a soothing effect The sauna area is also home to a relaxation lounge, a cafetaria, steam baths, and several indoor whirpools The rustic loft sauna, constructed of solid beams and stone formations of the Otztal mountains, is a highlight The sauna area features a beautiful 20 m (66 ft) long outdoor pool, which is filled with 34°C (93°F) warm pure thermal water Reserved exclusively for guests staying at the Aqua Dome Hotel, Spa 3000 is spread across the top two floors of the spa building Spa 3000’s lower floor features several relaxation areas with steam baths and saunas A small indoor pool is built along a moss-covered wall The cathedral-like interior of Spa 3000’s upper floor houses a bar, a relaxation area, a fireplace room, a Jacuzzi, and a sauna The modern design combining pinewood, granite and large glass facades brings the raw beauty of the Ötztal Valley inside Spa 3000’s terrace offers nice views of the mountains Aqua Domes’ outdoor bowl-shaped pools seem to levitate above the ground’s surface, almost creating the look of a space-ship A bubbly river pool – with a gentle current and some rapids – takes guests from the Crystal Center to the elevated basin pools A glass pyramid offers access to three eye-catching pool basins that float over the other pools like an UFO The massage pool basin is perfect for those who want to add energy and vitality to their aquatic pleasure The sole basin has a salt content of 5%, with gentle underwater music and lighting effects Pure sulphur spring water flows into the thermal waters in the sulphur basin pool every 15 minutes A 25 m (82 ft) lap pool stretches under the basins and features a pleasant water temperature of 78°F (26°C) Hotel guests get early access (7 am) to the thermal baths, two hours before the complex opens to the public (9 am) That means that hotel guests can enjoy the floating basins and pools in peace before the day guests arrive
