You. Know so much sad news this week I'd be remiss if I didn't point out these two developments you're looking live now in Chicago on the left and in Georgia. On the right the funerals for two police. Officers who were killed in the line of duty both, of them ambushed, over the course of the, week appalled Bauer. On. The left hand side of the screen a funeral for him Chicago. Police have urged a sea of blue wear, blue to show show your support for the law enforcement community and indeed many are and in, Georgia for chase Maddox, who was also killed ambushed. Last week. By. A gunman so. We're watching this at the same time we're reminded, that violence, is, alive and well in. This country and nowhere did we see that more, pointedly and more tragically, than in Florida child. And adolescent, Family Therapist RV Fox back with me and Darby you know a lot of people are still coming to grips with this there are a lot of parents in Florida I've already said my, kid is not going back to that school just. Not and, now they're talking about tearing it down and rebuilding but, how do you counsel people who, quite rightly don't. Want to subject their kids to that, well. It's hard it's a very scary thing to think about sending your kids. Back into that I think. The best thing first. Of all we want to break it apart by, age group but, with high school kids we, do need to talk to them about it and one of the hardest parts is. We. Really want to have them go through the emotions of what it's like to lose someone and think about what what possibly, could we have done differently, or do, you notice it's a great time to notice the impact, that maybe some bullying, or those, kind of things may have had on this kid so, that the. Shooter, crews would, have become, like this so. Those are the times. We. Have to keep going so, we have to the. Best we can do is really talk them through how. To. Maybe. Avoid. It in the future but to be more aware and sensitive of, what this is like yeah you know everyone, talks about this being the new normal. And I guess and you and I were discussing this right after the shooting but as a dad, when. I hear kids talking, about, what happened, in that school, as they witnessed it this, kind of stuff where I went listen to this and we'll, talk about it. Shooter. Shot through the door poked, in shot a couple people next to me I was, sitting right behind a cabinet and the bullet past my ear got.

A Girl next to me in the hallway saw, a big, pile of blood like kind of smear let's if they were dragged away and I, saw two girls probably, dead in the hallway I heard the gunshots, then when he went outside and, the police cleared us for us to go outside I see dead people dead bodies on the field there was just a lot of blood. Everywhere and there's bodies. Kind, of just everywhere, it was good, I had to step over a dead body begin to my classroom it was right outside of my classroom there was a dead body laying. Like like a fish. Just. Amazing, Darby I'm thinking you, know they were very matter-of-fact. Describing, what they saw but. Man a man they are not ever ever, ever ever ever going to forget that yet for them it is like it, you, know the norm what. Do you think, well. I mean they're not ever gonna forget it and part of the matter-of-factness. Comes from the fact that they've never experienced. It before you. Have to remember that we learned through experience and. That the, best is always seen say doing. It ourselves if you can remember you know you always have to do it on your own even though someone's told you to do something differently so, that's very common especially with adolescents, so they haven't seen it before and they really don't know what to think like you, can't predict a dead body or the piles of blood and it's, gonna take a little bit of time to settle in with these kids but it they're gonna suffer some trauma from this. That. Wasn't clear but I was, amazed and it says something about maybe the age in which we live how, calmly, surgically, kind of they went through and, explained. What they saw what they experienced. And I. Know. That, said something about the age we live in and all that to your point but, man. That's, a sad commentary in itself. Well. It is a sad commentary and I think part of the calmness, is they. Have, seen and been exposed to way more than most people would have especially. Even a few years ago and, that's through technology. And social media and again, that's the piece where we're removed one step so, if you've seen it you somehow think oh I get it oh that's a dead body I've seen that before but. Tell you can actually feel, it and then it's your neighbor or your best friend you, won't have that emotional. Impact, and I think that's part of what we struggle with is the detachment. That you see but, it's it's, it's, an innocent detachment, but it is something that's been created more, recently all. Right thank, you very very much, Darby, Fox. Very. Sad but all I can just say it's apparent, to what Darby's point is you. Talk about these things maybe, hold their hands a little bit more tightly than you would normally even. If they're teenaged sons. They back. Away all. Right we have a lot more coming up the president, in the in a role that presidents. Have had to pay, a little bit too often that of consoler, in chief. How's, he doing after. This. You. Don't need some closing. Comments on yesterday's, show regarding, how, tough it is for presidents. To have to deal what is an all too routine experience. In these last few decades dealing. With tragedy we're gonna be exploring that with Karl Rove, in. Just a few minutes ahead of that that's this tragedy, and everything, associated with it for parents, is particularly problematic, including. A lot of those kids who lost their lives their, parents, many of whom were, saving, and planning for their kids future something. Else I also address yesterday was the weird, sort. Of dichotomy and, markets that were coming back against. The backdrop of some, children who. Were never coming, back so. Markets, that were the bedrock, of investments, for those kids and would look like they're very bright futures, and, now this kind. Of puts it in perspective let's, get Fox Business Network so do Travolta need we got Fox News contributor Gary Smith and, also. To step back from from the day to day money part of all of this father Gerald Murray it's a pastor at Holy Family Church, here. In New York, thought. That he'd you first because a lot of people look at this and say. Well. I've been focused, on saving for my kids future savings. Saving saving something. Like this comes maybe. I've got it backwards, what do you tell people, well. Moral. Formation, you know spiritual, guidance a sense of right and wrong.

The 10 commandments aren't suggestions. The, way you live your life is you love your neighbor you don't hate one, of the things that I think our society has been tolerating, too much lately is a sense of cultivating. Hatred, as a way to deal with people and. Apparently. This young man was the object of some hatred in his school which. Is wrong but, we have to teach people it's never right to express, your anger through, violence, and murder and this is what's happened here it's. The. Right and wrong of human, action really depends, our decision. Making to, embrace, what's good and I think we have to tell kids look don't, go along with sentimental. Things. Where people say however, you feel that's how you feel express, it know your, feelings, have to be an expression of the love you have for your fellow man that's what I think a message, that needs to be heard, and different, lessons, that I am not telling parents stop saving. For your kids future of course but I I guess, I'm just trying to keep it in balance and, also keep, it in perspective, indeed, and I mean honestly I was speaking with father in the green room because to your point you know this is actually the person I want to hear frankly I think it's just so jarring, you, have children I have children I know Gary's appearance you of. Course you keep saving but, I just think an experience, like this is so shocking I mean honestly I wonder how these parents are even putting one foot in front of the other. Never mind thinking about what to do with the money that they had saved you, know you know Gary beyond this issue and it's easier said than done to say all right well you've got to be able to look at everything you got to look at providing. You know safe haven. For your child and then also be here your child and the worries he or she might have especially in the teenage years. But. I do think that some, of us get caught up in the day-to-day and, I as a parent. In your own right and a very good one and also an investor in your honor and a very good one how, do you balance those, worlds. It's. Difficult, you know I'll tell you I was thinking back you know when I was thinking about this segment, I don't, know if it's more difficult when, my parents, when my my, children were teenagers, or when I was a parent, during those teenage, years you need to be, part.

Father, And. Father, in the religious, sense part. Psychiatrist. Part councillor. Part friend, part. Prison. Warden to be very honest with you and and. You know what you, you don't get it right unfortunately. A lot. Of times I guess the the the best thing maybe that I did, was try to, almost. Look at my kids and partially, sometimes, and see if I could pick up things, that they, were going through where they might need outside help. Because kids, generally, at least teenagers, they don't really want to hang around with parents a whole lot and. Yeah. We. You know we tried, to do a lot of special, events which I think we're good but most, of the time they can't or they don't know how to handle the. Problems, that they face like, bullying, like, depression. Like being. An outcast like, being very popular and you just I think, you need to sometimes step, back and say how would I handle, this objectively. To, help my child. And, and try, to arrange the right assistance. If you can I think. To at, least one of the challenges, that I face as a parent, is that social. Media did, not exist, when I was growing, up and. Gary to your point I mean my parents were knew, where I was at, all times and, if something was wrong they could sense it in my demeanor because I wasn't, going and venting on social media or, there, wasn't this kind of other outlet, I mean if you were acting, out people, in your community, saw it it wasn't like you could hide in a phone and send. Messages that nobody and. The father's at that point we do now the latest, revelation. That. Nicholas, Cruz was acting. Out and worrying. Some people who caught his musings on snapchat was harming. Himself and, talking about buying a gun are the warnings, that I want to be a school shooter, still, others that were conveyed by someone close to him to the FBI no lies, telegraphing. Harm harming, animals proclivities. For other violent behavior. What. Do you tell. Kids. Who don't want to. Compromise. Their. Relationship. With their friends by sharing, this with people well. That's interesting because the Archbishop, of Miami our church of Winsky said on the radio the other day, a big problem on our society's, individualism. Where people say that's his problem not mine on a likeable, I'm not gonna do anything about it we have to be more interventionist. I think in the lives of our friends and ours classmates, and people we know and by, that I mean a loving. Response, when, there's abnormality. You, know you may not be able to be the friend of that person, but you can get people to that person, to help it you can also make, them a Scarlet Letter you can also lure, they'll be even more ostracized, but. The thing is this a person. Who is having difficulties.

Should Not be left to stew by himself because everyone's afraid you know I can't get involved in somebody else's life take. That risk, which really is a loving act to say to the school look this, guy needs mental health preventive, health issue, help, he also perhaps. Needs a little bit of guidance just in the ordinary things of life I feel, sorry for the parents. You. Know who died of this kid because of course you know that's another tragedy, but yeah, this, boy needed guidance and, it especially needed, moral guidance where do we get that in schools these days, that's. A big question parents, are the first ones but in their absence other people have to take their role Gary that kind of follows, up when you were just saying, yeah. Exactly, I agree with the father on the intervention, there was more than a few times, trust. Me I thought maybe sending, my daughters off to military school, would. Be the, best solution just. To take them out of the environment, and maybe, that would have been a little, draconian, but, you, know sometimes, you have to be. Stricter. Parent, that maybe you'd like to be you know harkening back to I'm, sure Neel maybe your parents, or your grandparents. We're. Probably a lot stricter than then, you and I were and maybe sometimes, as a parent in this day and age you go a little too far to being a friend, and a buddy what, do you think I am, actually with you I think you know kids in theory only have one set of parents right, and and part of your role maybe you're not going to be popular for a decade, or a decade plus but. Kids have lots of opportunities, to have friends, and coaches and other positive, interactions, they only have one set of hair we just have to be moral buttinsky right, yeah. We're. On this planet, to help each other you know that's something that I find really lacking, off in American, society you, know as they say in New York everyone walks with their eyes. To the ground because they don't want to see their neighbor, this is a big mistake we have to take an active interest in everyone that God puts in our path and in the case of people with problems, don't, pretend they're on problems, but do something don't complain about it do something I know, that people did intervene in this case and that's another tragedy, that was going to be played out but you, know as regards the families who were suffering now's, the time to pray for them to offer them sympathy, and offer, them the hope that indeed, there, is another world you know I believe most of these people are religious people are to know there's been religious, funerals, there.

Is Another life and that really is the only consolation. We can offer now and God, does help us bear our wounds we, can only hope all right father thank, you deidre Gary. All. Right sadly we want to keep you aware of these funerals, going on you're looking area live shots right now on the left here screen in Chicago. For. Officer Paul Bowers. And in in Georgia, for chase Maddox, both were gunned down. It. On the job last, week and of course if it occurred the, same week we we had this horrific, school. Shooting, in Florida reminders. Just. Certainly. The fertility of life but. How, anything. Like this can pop up at any moment Bristol, County Massachusetts Sheriff. Thomas, Hutchins with us and we have so much to talk the sheriff about but if you'll indulge me on. This. Violence. In this issue that it's more common here you've heard all these groups so sheriff who said no, it's definitely more common, in the United States than it is elsewhere. You see a lot of them are saying it's because of guns others think it's our culture what. Do you think I, think. It has a lot to do with culture Neal I think, we all know that you know the the lack. Of family involvement. And structure, has certainly been. A, key, factor and a lot of what's going on and we. See the the emergence. Of gangs and why kids join gangs is because they. Find that that's the only place they're really going to get some recognition for, some of their achievements, because, they're not getting it at home and people aren't frankly, investing. In understanding. What's important to them so they. Seek out these alternative, places that unfortunately. To. Get credit for something you have to do something that is, contrary, to what is. In our interest of safety, and in, building our culture you know a lot of people have talked whether it's the exhibit that befell these two officers, who were gunned down you. Know. Trying. To help people or, these. Kids who are murdered, at school just trying, to go about their day. Some. Are you know it's too much guns out there others, like the president been saying you know it's a mental health issue, how, do you see it.

Look. There's there's, serious mental health problems in our in our country and, again it goes back to the some of it to the root issues. That I just spoke of with regards to family and lack, of structure, I do, think it's always good to take a look at how. We're we're screening people for weapons we. Do have a second. Amendment rights and we do have a right to bear, arms so there's. A balance there and I think that we, you know we have to look at I saw, something recently I think it was on Facebook or something where they said you know when, someone's. Involved. In DUI they're, considered a drunk driver when somebody bombs something where their bomber but, when someone goes into a school and shoots people who go somewhere else to shoot people it's suddenly the gun I think, we have to look at the realities, of what's. Going on people need to drill down and spend time focusing on, the, core issue and not on on the symptoms around it, sure. If you just said that much more powerfully and with, much more import, I. Know, we were gonna talk immigration, I still want to in the future but, with all of this I really felt compelled to address these issues sheriff. Thank you very much for taking the time, thanks. For having me Neal have a great day you too Karl. Rove's knows a thing or two about not. Only the president he worked for but. Others who've had to deal with tragedies. And helped the nation deal with tragedies. How. This one's doing after. This. All. Right the president last night I visiting, those injured in the attacks this week in Florida that left 17 dead I believe up to 20 were. Injured, about half have been released from hostels some, likely. To be there for quite a while more. Today. We're not quite aware what the president's plans are but he is still in the West Palm Beach area, that's, where you'll find our Kevin cork. Always. Good to be with you my friend and a good Saturday it is here in South Florida the president, playing the role of comforter, in chief Neal as he, continues, to reach out not just to the victims but all sorts of first responders, who did such a magnificent.

Job In doing, all they could to preserve the lives of those young people who are impacted, by the terrible, tragedy over at Parkland as you pointed out we don't have the exact timing, of the president's, whereabouts, today that changes, typically hour by hour of, course we will share, with you any pictures that we get in the meantime but I did want to share some. Of what the president had, to say to some first responders last night as he, thanked them for all they did to, save lives. Really. Incredible, indeed just some of the comments from the president, last night on an evening well frankly, there was no shortage of reaction. Marking, the heroism, of so many over the past few days it's a theme by the way Neal he continued, at a roundtable last night with law enforcement and law makers and other community, stakeholders a solutions. Based approach, according, to White House officials, to an issue that has obviously, torn the fabric of this and so. Many other communities. Across. The country tough, night last night but the president will be back after it again today Neal do. You know his exact plans or. What. The schedule calls for I. Have. To be careful here but I understand we get on background. Information and, we have an idea of where he'll be going today, but for public consumption, I can, only share that he'll be active, once again today that should not come as, a surprise yeah, I'm sorry but I didn't, want to put you at risk of. Disobeying. That ah thank you very much Kevin Cork alright. Let's go to what Karl Rove's how this president, is handled is on, top of his comments, last night is a restoring. Speech from the White House earlier this week what. To make of that of course he has been in this role himself with, President Bush certainly after 9/11, and a number of incidents beyond that but. We've seen presidents, have to deal with this far more often, than you would think would be the case a crow yeah. It's one of the big. Sort of informal, and vital, responsibilities. Of the president comforter in chief as Kevin cork said and. The. President, Trump has big. Responsibilities. In, this horrific incident you, know when the president visits, a scene of the in this case of school shooting. You. Always, risk running, into protesters, right or those oh because you. Represent a party that hasn't done more to to, deal, with gun control we're. Gonna go after you or. So. How do you, juggle. That it presidents. Of all stripes that had to deal with this, sort of thing you could have done things you di. Should have known this and we've seen this time and time again but, what do you do yeah, well. Look the, advanced people can generally sort, of sculpt the event structure, the event so that you. Minimize sort, of the picture, of the president, being protested but.

The One thing that you can never avoid, in. Fact you have to welcome it because it's your responsibility, is the, anger of those involved, my, suspicion, is is that the, president last night when he visited the hospital there may have been some parents who are grieving and angry and striking, out and. Presidents. Got to simply accept the fact that if. He's there he may be able to receive an end of their anger and their grief and he. Has to deal with it as best he can that's that's part of the job but you. Know the protests. You can always you, know schedule, and organize, it so you get in or get out of the place of the cameras not seeing that as a background it's a separate, and apart from the visit but but, that personal, anger whether it's a question of a war or a natural disaster or, a shooting like this there, are always people saying why my family why my, child why my spouse. Why my husband, so forth yeah, we we tend to put our presidents, on like a Mount Olympus roll or bigger than human, beings and they're more human, when. They they. Show emotion, I was thinking if you're all boss on the Oval Office after 9/11, would take a look at this, families. Children. I'm. A, loving guy. And. I'm. Also someone, however, who's. Got a job to do. Now. He, teared, up in that moment and it reminded, me of still another moment. On involving. Barack Obama after. Sandy, Hook and, we're gonna show in a little bit but the, issue being that it's, okay for a president, to depart from script to depart from the moment to in this case wipe away it's here and just, to let people realize. Their human to. How. Does that how. Does that play out though to folks at home well. Look that and people take that took that moment with the george w bush on the 13th of september as a. Moment, of empathy what they saw there was a president, who cared deeply about the, people whose lives were lost and the families who were touched, in such a terrible way on 9/11, in in, and and they they also heard a moment of resolve I have a job to do and there was a firmness in that voice and we last, night the president an excellent job of complementing the, first responders, and I thought the round table was useful because it talked about things. That everyone could do to, to, confront. The the situations, like this I think, the one moment that was missing last night was the. Impotent. Visited, with a number of the, shooting. Victims he didn't visit with a number of the families. Of those people. Who are hospitalized, and it would have been better if we had heard more about them and. Seen. Those moments that those those those. Instances. Of empathy. With, them in their condition and the, broader issue, of the 17, young. Lives mostly, young life snuffed out in a violent, senseless. Evil, act, it would have been better if we'd heard that rather than oh the, the first responders, got there and it was record-breaking, how fast they got there that was that was fine that, was it good but, we needed more I think empathy last, night I hope the president has a moment to strike that today his wife has done really well in moments, like this I, think, it'd be good for the country if they, saw the the. President's, heart on this just as we see when he talks about victims, of. Violent. Illegal, criminals, like, Kate Steinle you could tell he has a huge. Epic heart. For. People and families who've been touched by that be, good to see that today you. Know much his name these pictures have been taken after. Visiting. Some, of those victims and then later on some of the security, folks who. Have. Done such yemen's work. Since. This shooting. But. If I'm the, mother, or father of, someone who. Lost their life and and for whatever reason, I. Might. Recoil at. The image of you. Know local, officials, even the president's celebrating. Our law, enforcement q because my child is gone and right. I I don't want to politicize this either way Carl but how, do you balance that how do you balance the. Anger, that you're. Gonna get from victims families, with. Those who are trying to, then. And now and in the future protect. Other families, right. Well, you're, right it's a balance and the, president when he talks with the victims families. And with those that are shot in the hospital, he's gonna run the risk of having people say mr. president you, know if only you had done this or if only you would do this we, would be spared, this I think one of the messages the president is I will do everything within my power to confront. This problem and, we all have a responsibility confronted. Yesterday, and, the day before I was taken by a couple of things one was a piece, in The Wall Street Journal, but I believe it's the former police commissioner in Boston, who talked about he, said if this kid, had. Surfaced. In Boston, we. Would the police in the school district, would have surrounded, that kid and worked, with him to avoid this kind of a situation but.

And We know that 39, times, think it was this kid was, was, local. Police drew him in and, yet and we know the school expelled, him but we know the school had said he would never you, you can never come back to campus with, a with a backpack. So, what you, know but. I was taking the he said Boston, has in price, processes. And, initiatives. That will take a child like this and do. What they can to keep him from spinning out then, the other thing was there, was also a piece in The Wall Street Journal, in editorial, talking, about what the state could do you. Know the state of Florida. It's easier to buy a. Ar-15. That it is for a teenager to buy a handgun, and the, state's laws. That allow the, police to step in and to deal with mental, illness. Like, this child was was, suffering. Are and need to be revisited in, examined. There's. An opportunity for that this is that opportunity, I'm Thank You Carl very. Much, no. The president's been busy on this very issue of, meeting, with, parents, for example of Columbine Sandy, Hook victims, that's, something that's playing the very very near future I don't, know what my next guess will be among those he's meeting with that scarlet Lewis lost her six-year-old. Son Jesse six, years, old the. Sandy Hook elementary, school shooting here's, a remarkable, story about Jesse Doe all of six he up saved some of his classmates by. Shouting run, the. Day that lone gunman walked into his classroom he, died they live his. Mom is here thank. You very much for coming Scarl I know it's very very tough. When. You see something like this and. See, it happen again what. Goes through your mind. It's. It's, horrifying and, my heart goes out to those families it's, been very, difficult for all of us in Sandy Hook over, the past week, we, know exactly, what. They're going through. The. The anger, and frustration that, they're feeling the the horrifying, fact that. That. Their child was viciously, gunned down and, what is supposed to be a safe haven. What, all, the arrangements, that they're going through now trying, to determine whether they'll be open. Or closed caskets, because of the devastation, that ar-15s. Have on the body it is, it's, just absolutely. Devastating, and my heart goes out to them you, know there's a battle back in one of the ways rages, politically, certainly, after Sandy Hook and, and, the unique, tragedy that so many just young. Children. Four or five six years old. Maybe. We have to do something about controlling a number of guns out there who gets access to them maybe it's a mental health issue maybe it's violent videogames regardless.

Just Since, standing up that are there more than a dozen, prominent. Shootings. You. Know, injuring. Killing hundreds, more you, could even add Las Vegas to, that last year, what. Do you think the problem is. I. Really, would. Like President, Trump to address. The actual cause, and, the, actual cause is. Anxiety. Anger. Disconnection. Isolation. In our youth in in, America, and. You. Know I knew following. Jesse's, death. That, I, couldn't, wait for someone else to. To. Come up with a solution and, I was heartened to find that there actually was one, that. Jesse Lewis choose love movement offers. Offers. This. Solution, and, it's. It's teaching. Kids how. To have healthy relationships how. To manage. Their emotions how. To have deep meaningful, connections. Skills. And tools for resilience, kids, that can get along with another one another kids that love one another they're, not going to want to harm one another it's, called social-emotional, learning it's. Been around for a while there are decades of research showing, that children that, have, social-emotional. Learning, get, better grades, and test scores and graduation rates, right off the bat but, there are long-term studies, that show that kids that have had, social-emotional. Learning in, kindergarten. It followed, them all the way through adulthood, and they found that these, these, adults now have less, substance abuse less. Mental illness, of all kinds. Less, incarceration, less, violence, and anger even, less divorce rates because, while, we're teaching kids how to get along with one another it is the, solution, the, Jesse Lewis choose love movement offers, a free, comprehensive, pre-k. Through 12th grade social. And emotional learning, program it's now in all 50, states and, 45. Countries, basically. It teaches kids to to. Thoughtfully. Respond in every situation and to love one another, we know that kids that love one another are not going to want to harm one another I would really love, the, President, to address. Social-emotional. Learning in our schools, and. I would like to put. Out a call to action, to all parents, and educators. To. Make, sure that your schools have a social, and emotional learning, program we know that it is the, solution, to the issues that we're seeing and. And. I'm just. Very grateful to, be a part of this solution, so. You're a remarkable mom, apparently. You got a remarkable, son. And. It would be very easy to be very angry and you, know crawling, to up to, a hole you didn't do that I think, you serve his memory very well, thank. You very much, thank. You or. To this. You.
