I obviously didn't hear that the first time Socotra, Yemen Season 8 - Eps. 59 Good morning internet it is 7 o'clock in the morning and welcome back to the channel Welcome to the Dixam plateau here on Socotra, Yemen I am back in the car with Ali Saeed - Yes And Almasorge As you've seen in the last video The track to get up to this plateau is.. was extremely bad And not possible on the little motorbike that I've been riding So I left the motorbike behind and jumped into the car But now, I will be reunited with my motorbike We're going to ride back and then continue further to the west side of Socotra So about halfway now. We're back in Wadi Dirhur But you know what I found so fascinating So this morning when I woke up, and I opened the tent it was completely wet on the outside So it makes so much sense that that Dragon's Blood tree forest is right there Because of what I said right that these trees can take up moisture water from fog and clouds And inject it into the soil So now the downhill bit is done Now we're going to start the climb to the other side And you know what's also amazing There's all these bottle trees growing right here On the rocky edge of this canyon You see the pink flowers? Lots of them This is a very tricky part So much better I mean the car is fun and all but.. Nothing beats a motorbike Bye Thanks So now we're heading to Qalansiyah Which is the second largest city on the island after the capital, Hadiboh I don't know if you have noticed this but the roads in Socotra are empty There is no traffic Sometimes you know, you see locals on motorbikes But not even that much Let alone.. Yemenese and cars The only cars you really see are tourist cars And a big reason for that is that fuel has gotten very expensive here 'Cause Socotra used to have their own Yemen petrol stations But now that's all taken over by the UAE So the Emirates is supplying fuel And made it very expensive So the locals can't really afford to.. yeah, go around on motorbikes
Let alone cars I can see the coast already down there in the distance So I'm sure that the road will go down again Back into the heat Because yeah, it's been.. the temperature has been a lot nicer here on the plateau A bit cooler You know a lot of these smaller trees That don't have leaves right now They will only get leaves when it rains So the landscape can change quite quickly After a little bit of rain and poof! Suddenly an entire area can be green again Gonna climb back up again Didn't see that coming Uh-oh What's wrong? No petrol You have problem? The bike stop I think.. little bit Oh there is - There is, yeah The bike just stop It stop? - Yeah Choke it Now what's happened Ah, put the reserve. Okay Okay Low on fuel So we switch to reserve I keep on forgetting that this bike also has petcocks That you can switch off on and to reserve Here is a fuel station Is there anybody home? Maybe not? 'Cause yeah, my bike needs some fuel Nobody home there Is this Qalansiyah? - Yeah, this is Qalansiyah Okay Bye What is she saying Where are you going? I give them a head start so I can keep my speed up Very bumpy Come on Wow Pretty amazing sight right? Something beeping Maybe the fuel I think it's the fuel low I didn't think that the motorbike would start beeping When fuel was low I obviously didn't hear that the first time, or maybe it only does that when you are already in reserve Yeah, it's the only petrol station in town As it turns out so.. We have to see it, when it opens. It will probably open a bit later But look at this! It is so beautiful here Lots of little boats there I should ask Saeed about these.. What a guy That was really fascinating and except okay the crabs He had those on a little rope but all the other animals they're just swimming around I can't believe how fast he just catched them I suppose he's been doing that all his life, so that was really, really fascinating And um, yeah, so he said that his family lives all in the village And he said that tonight he's actually going to visit his family And uh, he invited me to come to his house and meet his family So I bought this massive lobster for dinner And now Almarsorge is going to cook it But if you want to cook anything here, you have to well, you have to sit in a cage Because otherwise the goats will come and the birds will come So to do any safe cooking, you have to be inside the cage This thing doesn't even fit in the pot It's so big Big pot That will work Bon appetit So we finished the lobster and now we're going to see if we can find Ellai's house The cavemens house Cause he invited us to his family He should be going there now as well So let's see if we can.. we actually don't know where the house is But.. He's quite famous uh, in the village as well so If we ask a few people we should be able to locate his house Many kids This your granddaughter?
