when most people think of mexico they think of  margaritas on the beach all-inclusive resorts   and endless amounts of tacos and burritos but  over the last two years mexico has fast become the   world's number one expat and digital nomad hotspot  throughout the pandemic mexico remained one of the   easiest countries to travel to as they've had  some of the loosest border restrictions in the   world the land border between the u.s has been  reopened to non-essential travel since november 8   2021. coupled with the mass exodus of the tech  capital of the world california mexico has seen   massive rise in foreign nationals migrating to the  country to pursue a more affordable lifestyle with   less restrictions so we're here to find out is  it really worth moving to mexico as we mentioned   mexico is becoming one of the top places for  digital nomads and expats to move in 2022.   there's a few reasons for that the first one being  you actually don't need a visa to enter mexico   if you're from a certain country that doesn't go  for every country you can enter mexico without a   visa and you can stay up to six months which takes  out a lot of the hassle of getting a 30-day visa   and then having to do border runs or going to an  immigration office and renewing your visa every   month which is pretty much what we've been doing  while traveling through south east asia yeah we   can stay in mexico for six months without a visa  and on top of that if you do want to stay longer   the process is actually pretty easy to get a  long-term resident visa which gives you up to four   years you can stay here it's pretty simple really  you just have to prove that you have the income   to be able to support yourself while you're living  here and you can run a business here you can be a   digital nomad here it's not technically called a  digital nomad visa but that's basically what it is   so while visas are a huge reason why people are  coming here the obvious reason is cost of living   and if you are someone who either doesn't need to  work or runs a business online or you know as a   content creator like us then you have the freedom  to move around why wouldn't you live somewhere   that's more affordable and you get more bang  for your buck so mexico is a really good option   if you're looking for somewhere affordable and you  can work anywhere so we've only been here a week   and we actually joined a couple of groups before  we got here and were able to find a studio   apartment pretty close to the centre of playa  del carmen it's like a few blocks back from sort   of where all the action happens and it's really  affordable it's 18 000 mexican pesos per month   it's nothing fancy but it has a kitchen it has  a little lounge room a nice comfortable bed and   bathroom so it has everything we need the wi-fi is  really fast it's like a perfect place to work from   home and just have our own space because we've  been on the road for about nine months now moving   from place to place and we really craved just  having somewhere to settle down for a little while   and have our own space where we can work and live  and just look after ourselves and have a home base i cannot believe this is like our front yard this  is awesome i guess the only downfall would be the   seaweed but i think that's only at a certain time  of year i don't think it's year-round but it is um   a bonus that they actually clean it up and in a  lot of the areas they clean it up and it seems   like they sort of push it to one designated area  but it's not that bad one of the things that i   really like but has been a little bit challenging  but in a good way for us is that no one speaks   english here so since we've been traveling around  southeast asia everyone was pretty they just start   speaking english to us if it was possible straight  away so we didn't really have to push ourselves   to learn another language just like the basics but  here everyone speaks spanish and we have mentioned   in a few previous videos that we are learning  spanish so this is like i feel like i've learned   more in the last week just out of needing to  so yeah i like that they're they're firm with   their culture and their stance on speaking  their language i think that's really good   and we're going to learn another language a lot  quicker this way there's a lot of resorts here   and it is quite westernised like there's places  like the hard rock cafe wing factory in the   middle of town and there's a lot of big resorts  just out of town if you just ride your bike or   walk a few blocks out of central  playa del carmen it is very authentic   it's very mexican we hear like mexican spanish  music playing at all hours of the day and night   everyone's speaking spanish it feels pretty  authentic despite being in a place like playa   del carmen which is fairly westernised it  just depends on which area you go to i think so there's a couple of ways you can get  around player.com and as i said it's

really easy to get around the whole city  is set out in a grid uh you can walk   everything's pretty much walking distance  although it can be pretty far you can get   a taxi which it can be cheap more often than not  you're going to get overcharged you really need   to negotiate a price before you get in and even  then sometimes they're going to charge you a lot   they don't use a meter here for some reason so  we opted to get bikes and we found bikes really   cheap for 2 000 pesos each we got a bike each  and the guy that we bought them off actually   buys them back off you when you leave so if  you're only staying for a month you buy a bike   you give it back after a month and you get  half your money back so that's pretty good   everything's within like a five minute  five minute ride in playa del carmen   i think i can confidently say that mexico has the   best street art i've ever seen in my life  so many amazing murals so many great artists   and just even like the restaurants and stuff  have great artwork and ambiance they get it stop for a drink i think i'll get a lemonade  one thing i noticed here is every time we   order a juice or a smoothie or lemonade  it comes in these massive margarita bars   it's good really refreshing really refreshing lime this is like your dream meat on my wheelhouse   chicken wings on a stick they  look so good it looks spicy yeah there's so much good food  here in mexico you got like   expensive restaurants on fifth ave  and then street food everywhere if   you just walk back a little bit from the  main area you can find really good tacos   so something i'm really excited about spending  an extended amount of time here is actually the   yoga scene that's here which is so exciting  finally be able to get into a routine again   i looked up for unlimited i think it's one class  a day seven days a week for 70 australian dollars   a month which seems super reasonable that's the  cheapest i've seen since we've been traveling so   that's awesome i just went to the  pharmacy to get some sunscreen and   some bandages i have like a cut that got to  be infected when we got here from a scooter   accident in the philippines the whole interaction  was in spanish and at the end she tried to sell me   cialis which every time i've been to a pharmacy  here it's been either steroids or viagra cialis   i think mexico is like a like a medical vacation  spot where people come from other countries and   just get like all the medication that they  can't get at home because every pharmacy has   like just advertised right out front like viagra  cialis testosterone human growth hormones it says   steroids and it's like free delivery and they give  you their card when you leave it's pretty funny   so normally we find the best way to explore a  new place is by scooter or by taxi but today   we're going to be taking a very different mode of  transportation thanks to today's video sponsor get   your below to  book your next adventure with getyourguide.com i got really scared when we pulled up to  where the helicopter is supposed to pull   where the helicopter is supposed to pick us up  because it's the same place that all the skydiving   happens and i thought lloyd had pulled a fast  one on me and was gonna make me skydive right now   freaking out it's gonna happen one day and  he's i think she said she wants to skydive   but she's too scared to do it so the only way  you're gonna do it is if i just poke it i think   so i've sort of been expecting that to  happen at some stage but i really hope it's   it's also mandy's first time in a helicopter  so this will be a good test to see if she's   scared of heights foreshadowing i am  scared of heights so see how this goes   is it just us is there anyone else no just  us as well we're gonna prove a helicopter   this is kirsky vip for you okay great it's her  first time on a helicopter okay yeah you're going   to enjoy it we are very hot really it's really  really very fun yeah cool all right let's get on pretty awesome private helicopter ride i wasn't  expecting this and uh there's an esky here i don't know what's in there maybe there's  beers in there lots of space back they love   so much wow it looks like a limo yeah  very nice you comfy in there it's so good   oh i'm so excited what's in the esky  cooler what's this one for cervezas yes sir oh wow well i actually have  an esky full of beer here wow i'm very cold very cold i see it should be yes   always wow this is amazing i'm gonna have a  beer while we're flying yeah i'm having one too oh you can't find your tell me how to you hide show me that was awesome really good to see what player  del carmen looks like i'm surprised how flat   it is and how green it is and we got to see  all the like five star resorts on the beach   um really different perspective it was pretty cool  that was amazing really smooth landing by the boys   as well i don't think i've had a plane land that  smoothly ever so when lloyd said that we were   going on the helicopter tour i thought he meant  we were doing like the ones with the no doors on   it that were like skydiving ones and i thought  we were gonna be like leaning to the side and   um yeah that was very beautiful with the  drinks and at this time of day it was beautiful   my favorite time of day seeing the sun  setting over the water incredible oh so we just stumbled across a local restaurant  here there's like a market it's like a big   market here with plenty of local restaurants  um really cheap tacos we've got five tacos   for 75 pesos you know we'll see how they are  i think they'll be pretty good i'm starving we haven't really eaten much since we got  here we've been cooking at home every day   because we didn't have a kitchen for like  nine months i'm really surprised at how   restaurants are many here cheap restaurants  we're just one block back from fifa we go   one block back and there's like cheap  local places to eat it's pretty cool i'm gonna go green green and spice  you think he's spicy i hope so much doubling down oh that's definitely spicy   your anus is hotter than green i don't know  yeah usually red's hotter than green i feel like stupid hey oh man he just spotted this  dessert it's called marcus it's like a crate with fruit and chocolate inside   almost made at home without dessert  but we're gonna give it a go it's not too rich all right we might  have to eat around it's about to rain all right so as you can see we're pretty settled  into life here in mexico after a bit over a week   so i think we got a pretty strong opinion of  whether or not it's worth living here i think it   is when you factor in everything with visas cost  of living um how easy it is to travel around from   here you know there's shops everywhere as you  saw like there's really good food here as well   it's definitely worth living here if you  have the opportunity now maybe that's not   forever long term but if you're somebody who works  online or can just go away for a few months yeah   definitely worth living here yeah we're really  happy we feel like it takes all the boxes so far   um just gonna see how it plays  out for the next couple months   i almost wish we came here earlier just because  we've really enjoyed it so far and it has   everything we need so if you're thinking  about coming here definitely it is worth you
