The best Dessert in the world mE 15
morning my friends from the suburbs of beirut, finally back on the road, on the bike, after almost uh after more than one month without riding, a lot of editing in beirut, a lot of socializing in beirut also, something i didn't have for a very long time before and a trip to syria and here i am back on the road, on my way to byblos and tripoli, and soon uh i'm gonna exit lebanon as well, so let's go to tripoli and to byblos, yeah i had such a great time in lebanon it's really... especially in beirut, socializing, because all the way... since slovenia all the way to here, i almost had no socializing, so here i enjoyed it a lot, very sad to... very happy to be back on the bike, but very sad to leave a place where i felt very good actually okay guys i am in jbeil, byblos, and i won't visit it, i think it's only only one o'clock so i'll probably try to push all the way to tripoli today, but but there's a place i always wanted to go which i've seen on videos, it's the bakery basically because here they make sandwiches, knafeh sandwiches so i always wanted to come here to try, so that's gonna be my stop in byblos that's going to be my stopover in byblos, try the knafeh sandwich, let's go for it you make knafeh sandwich normal i pay there no, yes, okay thank you let's try this knafeh sandwich the famous knafeh sandwich of byblos i could not film the paying because it was a guy from the army, but he was very nice, he was almost like hiding to try not to be on the camera look at that, the famous knafeh, cheese with uh rose water i think, and kind of uh sugar syrup, in a bun full of sesame, looks awesome, fifty thousand it costs me, two dollars that's really good, oh it's the best one i had, better than the one in syria, my byblos experience is complete, my jbeil experience, i only wanted to come here for this basically it's way better than with the... than um without the bread actually, much better in a bun
so that's it, ready to resume the journey to tripoli, the waitress was very nice actually she came back to give me a plate and a napkin, so i can clean my hands yeah, oh that was the best knafeh i ever had... i ever had, let's see if this knafeh will be enough to drive me all the way to tripoli now, should be 50 something kilometers left i think i already did 40 something this morning, so let's go to tripoli guys look at that, we can see tripoli up there almost, only 15 kilometers to go, i found on the way a monastery of our lady natour, all the way from beirut probably to where i am, it is predominantly christian, but i guess after this monastery uh all the coast, all the villages are predominantly sunnah, sunni, so muslim of the sunni branch, so let's see the... probably my last monastery here in lebanon, before arriving in tripoli, a city i love actually, it's very different from beirut but what is nice in tripoli is, it has a real unity, the city feels uh has a special feeling as a whole, while uh beirut for example, you can really feel that, well that beirut is divided, like... you really have completely different feelings depending on the neighborhood you are in beirut, you have the armenian neighborhood, the shia neighborhoods the christian neighborhoods, they are all really completely different, so it's hard to feel that uh to have an idea of what's the feeling of being in beirut, because it's completely different depending on where you are, but tripoli is much more unified let's say, okay let's go have a look at this monastery, no cannot go okay so basically i was told i'm not allowed to film, so that's the end of the visit of the monastery and here we are in the old city, in the old city... here we are in tripoli, and actually not really in tripoli, we are in the neighborhood called el mina, and uh yeah there are a few things just two... let's say two things that i did not show you yet, here in tripoli, that i want to show you, so let's do this, let's do this for what probably will be my last video here in lebanon, so first thing is the old city of el mina, of el mina it's supposed to be kind of famous for its chicken street food, so let's uh let's go to have some street food here in el mina, then we will go to see uh probably the nicest, well the nicest... the most uh... well what the place that i
prefer actually in tripoli, which is the train station, you will see the train station is very very interesting here in tripoli, but first see wow first let's go for some street food here in the old city of el mina, yeah it's like a peninsula in the sea, so it's um it has quite a different vibe compared to other neighborhoods in tripoli, you see a lot of narrow streets, i don't know where the street food is, need to find out a lot of messy wiring around here also the architecture is so beautiful, you can feel the age of the place, i start to see some street food, so maybe we are in the right way, it's getting more and more, messier and messier around here wow it looks we are in a very very poor part of the old city of el mina at least we're doing a walking tour, no food, actually i'm kind of starving, but yeah at least we're doing a walking tour wow yeah that's the main thing of tripoli, tripoli is so so poor, it's quite intense well i am getting close to grocery stores, but no no chicken area, this freaking, this bloody chicken is uh running away from me where is the chicken area, what the hell so i found this man selling uh... film okay film film hello yeah yeah, okay i found this man selling something, let's see what it is this, this is lemon, just like this, okay okay kammoon very good, can i have one... like this is good, mixed can you hold this for me please, okay thank you, just like oh like this yeah okay it's always good, somehow for me the video always only starts when uh, when i find people who are friendly and who are happy with the camera, then i start to feel confident, and uh now i'm okay to go around, but let's try this thing, it's very um very interesting, he put this thing i did not get what it was, but he put the thing on the lemon and the lemon was not acid anymore so let's just stop somewhere, so that i can try it okay let's try this pieces of lemon, carrots and these things as well, have no idea what's the name in... lupin in french, i have no idea how you call it in english very good, 20 cents for a few carrots a few beans and some lemon hello ah, strawberry, okay after i finish this and after i come, okay okay i finish my glass and then let's go for strawberries, people seem to like the camera in this neighborhood now let's go to see the strawberry, he wants to be in the camera okay but um okay um like uh 10, yeah wait... this yeah... let's just get it, so it's so it's 50 000 for one kilo, so i just get uh 200 grams i think 10 000. okay we got some strawberries, we will eat them later, but uh let's continue because actually it's a market here, so we still did not find the elusive chicken, chicken shawarmas, but we found nice people, we found beans, carrots, lemon strawberries and the market, but no chicken shawarma, it doesn't matter hello oh maybe oh juice yeah orange juice? this is orange, no oh, orange lemon, and this is what can i see yeah yeah oh carrot, okay i will get carrot juice yeah sit here okay let's sit here to drink the juice, so i give back... because basically
i can drink the juice, and then they get back the bottle, so it's better hey he's helping me because i'm busy with one hand i love carrot juice it's so fresh so you can see we sit in the middle of... this is the souk, souk el mina so i'm done with the carrot juice, and actually they indicated me the... they indicated me where are the chickens, so i should be able to finally find the elusive chickens of el mina here they are, i think it's this way to get the other ones, here there are some already, so i found them, when i went when i came here with hamed uh, this area around here was.... it was full of... it was full of chicken shops around here, so let's see
let's see if they are still here, but it's much less busy than uh last time i was here those sticks look very nice, probably let's have some this is for a sandwich or... how much is it 45 000 ($2) can i get one oh they do fish fish also they cook fish as well here, very nice, so 45 000 is about around two dollars, a bit less than two dollars for a chicken sandwich, they're also cooking fish, that's really good, maybe next time i should go for fish all the fish being grilled, the chicken probably some is for me it smells so good that's going to be very good that's my skewer ready, just here, let's see it going in the bread, yeah yeah potatoes yeah that's my sandwich arriving i paid already, i gave him sorry hello hello hello hello good yeah yeah yeah okay everybody likes the, likes the camera now, i don't know at first they were not that camera friendly, the guys of the chicken, but at the end they were friendly just need to get used i guess, hello i guess the way i arrive, without asking anything, and just coming up with the camera is a little bit... puts some people in the... it makes that some people go on the
on the defensive side, because they see the camera coming, but well anyway i think, i like it this way because also i think, um sorry i walk like that for the sun i think it's more natural somehow, so at least when people don't really care about the camera, i can i can have natural reactions, anyway but they were super friendly so let's try the... my chicken shawarma, my tavuk actually, tavook sandwich, grilled chicken very good, actually it's very good but i guess i didn't have the best um, yeah it's very good when it's grilled like that, but i think i did not get the best option because.. if you saw, you could ask for um chicken legs also, and they put it in the sandwich then, that looked like awesome, even better than mine very very good, it's full of toum, the garlic sauce, i love it, i love the syrian shawarmas because they were full of toum, and this one is also very good full of toum great and here we arrive on what they call the cornish, or the cornish i don't know if it's...
we have the same word in french, i don't know if it's french or arabic but we arrive in the cornish of tripoli, and look at the landscape we have, so basically you have a lot... you have some shops doing some juices, which is quite common, on the road along the sea in sour it was the same, in the south of uh of lebanon, but you can see the landscape here, how beautiful it is with the first small hill, but all the mountains full of snow wow so beautiful yeah that's it, well, but let's continue, let's not forget about the train station a very special train station here in tripoli here we are arriving slowly slowly to the train station, famous train station of tripoli look at this monster, a monster of steel, it has been abandoned there's a guy in there, in the locomotive the guy was like, what the hell look at these beasts, it's incredible it's quite unique, i've never seen a... i think i heard in bolivia maybe or something like that, you have a cemetery of... a train cemetery which is very impressive as well, but this old abandoned train station in tripoli is very nice also, look at that maybe let's go this way oh it's quite disgusting inside there what the hell, that's crazy look at this view, i love it yeah some people tell you also not to come, because they say you meet weird people around here and i guess in every abandoned thing you always meet uncommon people let's say, this is not okay okay good so you see all the oil, everything that's left is still... still under the locomotives, so it's full of well i guess it's a very very polluted area as well, you see the rails going to nowhere let's go for a visit of the train station itself now beautiful nice graffitis, i love those places i guess from this uh abandoned room, in the train station, in the old train station of tripoli let's go out here from the abandoned train station of tripoli see you for the next adventures, probably next time i see you, it's gonna be in turkey, i don't know if i'm gonna film my ride back... my uh... the travel back to turkey by uh by ship
