Spending A NIGHT IN A REAL ENGLISH CASTLE THIS CHRISTMAS

Spending A NIGHT IN A REAL ENGLISH CASTLE THIS CHRISTMAS

Show Video

[Music] Christmas is almost here and we decided  to go on a Christmas adventure and sleepover   in a medieval English castle. Yes, we are at  Warwick Castle which is more than a thousand   years old. We've never been which is quite  astonishing. So this castle was built in 1068   by William the Conqueror. We are staying  or will be sleeping in a tower. Yeah it's   called Caesar's Tower. Stay tuned, we will show  you everything. Now we just checked into the

Peacock Suite at Caesar's Tower and thought we  would give you a little tour first. It's very cosy   in here. So we have a wonderful four poster bed  and will probably feel like royalty tonight. Yes,   I feel like a shining knight now. Or that yeah. It  says Caesar's Tower was built during the 1350s. It   used to be so this bit used to be a prison. Yes -  but the the basically the posh version. Yeah yeah.

A prison and then kind of guest guest rooms. So  there are two suites in here, the Peacock Suite   and the other one is called the Rose Rose Suite.  Yeah. And look at the former fireplace. That's   wonderful. I also love so we have a little bit  of a Christmas decoration but I really like that.   It's very class classy I think. Yeah yeah. So. And  the high ceilings. Yes. So we have a big garland

here. I mean look at the at the high ceilings. You  would need so much fabric for your curtains. It's   incredible. So also here is a big wreath which I  really really love. I just talked to my dad and he   said it looks a little bit like a church with the  vaulted ceilings. It does. It really does. Jörg,   can you just open it? So we have a I I really love  the little wardrobe - yeah - which does remind me   a little bit of Narnia. And in there is a fridge  and what I really like is that there's a there's   an ironing board and an iron so that always to me  always comes in handy. There's also a huge mirror

which I love so much because I don't get to enjoy  that at home. And I just opened the window for you   because look at the view. Look at the old cottages  down there. We need to check out from where they   are. Then here is a tea and coffee station and  you can also do your makeup or hair here. See   there's a little chair. Then on this side so  in front of the bed is actually the TV. It's in

there but we won't be needing that. What I really  like that's such a great feature so the lights   in here look like this. Such a fun feature.  Then here you could enjoy a drink or tea and coffee. In here yes so so this is the bathroom with a tub and shower. And the toilet is  opposite. See here. There's even a knight's armor. Toilet. Light is switched on as  well. So here around the corner

not easy to film but yeah toilet and a small basin and a lovely mirror. And I really like the  view from here towards the bed with the wreath. [Music] So here is the small Christmas Market and I think  the location is wonderful in front of the castle.   Also here you can see an ice rink. Yeah - Jörg  actually - I will test it tomorrow morning. I   can't believe it. We're going to Germany next  week. Do you want to break a leg or something?

No, I won't. Break break a leg literally? No,  I won't. I want to make an ice dance. So we are   staying on the left, correct? Yes on the last  tower to the left - mmmh - yeah because the   big one is the so called guys Guy's Tower. Yeah.  See. Yeah. You can you can go up there. I I'm not   sure if we should do that now. We will do that  later. Well, when it's dark. Yes. You want to   when it's dark. When we've got our private  access. So when everyone has left we are

still able to explore the grounds. Yeah, that's  when we will be wandering around like ghosts.   We we always get so many questions whether the  places we are staying at are haunted. We never   experienced it. No. So I found out about this  by Googling as always and the great thing is   when you do it you have access to the the  castle, the castle grounds. And you get   an afternoon tea. You get an afternoon tea  as well. Breakfast tomorrow morning in the   state rooms. Can you imagine? Yes. Yeah like  - I forgot about that. Like king and queen.

[Music] These are cheesy fries. Yeah. I said  to Jörg what's this because there's chicken   in there? Yeah these are chicken bites - but  we didn't order that. No but - what did he   say? I just said cheesy fries and he added some  chicken in it. And then you said that's not the   thing - I said I didn't order chicken and then  he said yeah but I misunderstood you. [Music] Now what we will do next is we  will explore the motte. It's up

there. See. And you said that's the -  original part of the castle. Mhm. So   the first part was here. Yes. See we have  a snow queen here as well. Yeah. [Music]   It's so cold today. We it's colder than we thought  it would be so we fancied another hot drink. Jörg   is having - a caramel latte. I have a cappuccino.  We now have the tower to ourselves. Yeah because   the castle just closed. Yes I think 4:00 and we  said okay let's go and have a look while it's

not entirely dark. We will later we will go to  the what's it called? Light trail. Yes we want   to check that out as well. We have to do as much  as possible while we're here. Down there is the   river Avon which right now carries a lot of water  because we've had quite a lot of rain recently. I   I still try to persuade Jörg not to go on the ice  rink. I will do it. I'm just a little bit scared

because we we, uh, will go to Germany next week  so. No, nothing will happen. But you know what?   Now it looks very nice. It's the perfect, they  they, well, I mean they do it on purpose. They   chose the perfect location for the ice rink of  course. [Music] We came back to the Christmas   Market to eat - yeah again. A little bit. I was  I was going to say a little bit. So this is a   jacked potato and it's huge. Yes. This is tuna  and mayo and Jörg has beef chilli. Yeah with a   giant potato. It's so huge. I'm shocked. Yeah.  My goodness - but that's a good dinner. Yeah.

So that's our dinner so we didn't have you saw  we had the the fries the the chips. So that's   lunch dinner all on the Christmas Market.  It's so big. I'm almost embarrassed to show   you or to share this on our channel because you  must think okay what are they doing. But that's   what you do at a Christmas Market. I didn't hear  you. Drink and eat. You need a mulled wine. Yeah,   I'll do after I've had dinner. After it?  Okay. Yeah. Is it hot? Yeah. Really so very

spicy. And very spicy. Yeah. It's chilli beef. I  don't know some of you might remember our visit   to Edinburgh last year our Christmas visit which  was absolutely wonderful. And we had tickets to   Edinburgh Castle for the Castle of Lights show.  We had to leave after 10 minutes because we had   such heavy rain and wind and now it's beautiful  outside. It's cold but beautiful. Feels like   a little a bit of a compensation to last year.  Yeah and so we will enjoy the light trail today.

I hope so. I hope so. Without rain. It's just  cold. Yes but today was absolutely glorious.   We had sun. Last weekend we had a storm so we we  couldn't be more lucky. Yeah. Now we bought the   jacket potatoes here - yeah - on the on the  left. I don't know if you can see it but now   Jörg fancies a mulled wine. Yeah or maybe an Irish  coffee. Maybe. Or an Jama no Jameson Brandy. Let's

let's see. Jörg just got his mulled wine. Yeah and  it's very good. Is it? Yeah. So give it a try. We   first have to share what this is. This is Bailey's  latte. A Bailey's latte yes. And most of you   know I don't really drink alcohol. And a bit of  Bailey is fine. I I do like that but well, let me try. This is so strong. For me it's  very strong. So you will be drunk? I,   well, I don't know. When we I think I will be  drunk when we going to the light trail. See,   I I can't even remember the name. Light trail.  Yeah. Imagine me being drunk. Oh that will be fun.

I've never been drunk in my life. That will be a  lot of fun. And I can't take much because I don't   really drink. So be careful. Just be careful.  I think Jörg has - take your time - Jörg has to   finish this for me. Let me try your mulled wine.  See see! This is even bigger. You know what? I bet   Jörg talked to the lady behind the  counter. Yeah I said a big one. A jumbo size. You know what? I prefer  this. Okay, we'll sway. Didn't

they have something for children? This is nice. Cheers. Cheers. I can feel this in my belly. Yeah. It's so strong

for me. Time to do the light trail.  I hope you can even see me. [Music] It's actually very nice. We like it. It's to  me it's very moving. It is yeah. And it's the   perfect weather. It's cold. Dry. The only  thing that's missing a little bit of snow   would be the icing on the cake. Yeah.  But it's lovely. Everybody. Oh I really

loved meeting you. Enjoy the rest of the light  show. Merry Christmas. Merry Christmas. [Music] This is probably the end and guess what? Food  and drinks but we don't want anything. We're   so full. It's not at the end! It's not the  end? No, we're halfway through. Really? Yes. [Music] So as you can see we're back in the room and the  light trail was beautiful. Yeah, it was amazing.

I really didn't expect that. Me neither. So a very  positive surprise and we just said should you come   here or had we known that there was a tent in the  middle where you can eat and drink. Yeah, we would   have had our dinner there. Exactly because it's  warm. It's it's heated. So that would have been   nice. And I just said to Jörg we definitely  won't have any visitors tonight because he   smells of garlic. Yeah, I think it was a garlicky  beef chilli. That was in the jacked potato? Yeah.   So you have to sleep outside. No, it's fine. It  will be fine. And it's so warm in here so because

you never know. I expected it to be much colder  because the the ceilings are so high. Yeah but the   heating is very good. Yes, most definitely. It's  time to go to bed and you know what? This bed is   very big and Jörg is very tired. Gute Nacht.  Sleep well. So we'll see you in the morning.   Let's hope there won't be any strange encounters  tonight so good night. See you tomorrow. Good night. Good morning milady. Good morning my lord.  So look where we are this morning. In one of the

no this is the red drawing room - yes - actually  and it's my favourite room in here with the   Christmas tree and the red paneling. Red and gold  paneling. It looks so festive, doesn't it? Yeah,   it's a very nice setting here. I didn't sleep too  well. I don't know why. I wasn't really tired but   there were no ghosts so that wasn't the reason. I  didn't hear anything. I didn't see anything so I

don't think this place is haunted. What about  you? Yes, I saw a white lady next to me. I   didn't wear white Jörg. Yeah but you were all in  white. I was in a white sheet yeah. Yes. So now   this is our breakfast so we have we have gluten  free toast, we have regular toast - and - yeah?   Because we haven't seen it. No. Eggs  Benedict. Et voilà. Eggs Benedict. And this is mine. Looks very good.

[Music]   So it's absolutely wonderful to sit here and  basically have the castle to yourself. We are only   a little bit disappointed in the tea they chose so  PG tips is not really our preferred brand of tea   but it's fine. We can't complain. It's absolutely  amazing to be here. Now this room back in the   day was used as an ante room for visiting guests  and I really love the ceiling because very often   people do miss the ceilings and I think  it's always worth it to look up. [Music] Yay. Long Live King Henry. So we will go on  a private tour now after breakfast which is   actually included when you book the suite.  We don't know how it will work out regarding   filming but we will try our best. There are some  elves walking around this morning. They look so

lovely. Tower our friends and family tower - mhm  - because the idea is you're only ever capturing   people of importance in your tower. You go into  battle to kill peasants. You don't go into battle   to kill lords, earls and archbishops. No. They are  worth some money. [Music] And you also fill this   room with armor. Armor from your travels because  most of this armor has absolutely nothing to do

with the Earl of Warwick, nothing to do with  England. The Earl of Leicester but he lives   at Kenilworth Castle very usual at the time even  when you're Earl doesn't necessarily mean you live   there. So this central image shows her riding  into Kenilworth Castle. That is Robert Dudley   following behind her very dutifully. It was very  much known the two were in love. They grew up at   the same court together. Very much a favourite  but they were never to marry. As a quartier of   Dudley would still have to ask Queen's permission  to marry - yeah - and he didn't. And the bears

might get in the way of your wine bottles so  make them so that they can spin. Ah. So when   you need more room for your wine you spin them  out when you don't need it you turn them back   in. It's beautiful. Yeah, that's interesting.  Took some 2 to 9 years to carve. I can imagine.   Some say 9 years but all hand carved ready  for the great exhibition in 1851. [Music]   Can you see where we are? Christmas Market. Again  at the Christmas Market yes because we fancy a

drink - yeah - but we didn't mention the the tour.  Yeah, it was really good. Chloe our our our guide   was amazing. Yes such a young knowledgeable woman  - yeah, yeah - absolutely incredible. Yeah. Jörg,   do you have something to eat as well? Yes, I've  got an Americano - yeah - and - let's see - that's   a caramalised donut. But you know we will have  afternoon team so this will be like a a sugar   shock. It's an early lunch, second breakfast.  No, you know what guys? I know why he's having   this. This is before he's going on ice - yeah - on  the ice rink in an hour. Fingers crossed. And you

never know. You never know know what's going  to happen. That's why I'm honestly I'm I'm   scared for you. I'm not. Jörg, you're no longer  the youngest. We both aren't. Look - we're both   getting on a bit. I've done it before and I've  survived. When? 30 years ago. Honestly, did we   ever do that together? Yes. I I think we did. At a  skiing holiday 1992. 1850. Yeah so some time ago.

[Music] So Jörg has been on the ice for a minute  - yeah - and now they are - cleared it   off just because of me. They are redoing the  surface. Yeah. I think it's your lucky day. No,   it's because of me. They I put so many scratches   in the ice that they'll have to redo  it now. Because you're so heavy. Yeah. [Music] All good.

[Music]   What's it like? It's amazing. Do you really  enjoy it? Yes. I mean at the beginning it   was like uh. I know I know. But now look it's  like riding a bicycle yeah. I know. You never   forget how to do it. To be fair - yeah - I wish  I would have done it as well. Yes you would have   have had the fun of your life. I I did enjoy it  in my in my teens but I I have a lame excuse. I   have to look after after our camera gear. Yeah  yeah, it's a lame excuse. Very very lame. What

now? I need next time I next year I'll I'll  be doing it. Yes next time you it's your turn. [Music] I'm proud of Jörg. Why? Because you did  the ice skating and we always our mantra is like   you can only grow if you get out of your comfort  zone. Yes yeah because sometimes you succeed and   then you're happy and sometimes yeah you fail  but then - but that's good _ you just try again.   Exactly, that's good as well. So I didn't do or  I didn't grow today. No. Did I grow today? A bit.

I feel I feel jealous because I didn't do it. I  would have enjoyed it. Yeah and I had so much fun.   I know. I was my only excuse is that I was scared  because we're travelling to Germany next week.   Yeah and one person with a broken leg is fine but  two person no. Two people no no. You definitely   deserve afternoon tea. Yeah. I don't. Okay, I'll  take yours. So what we will do now is there is an

exhibition called - The Weekend Party'. Yes  the weekend party so let's have a look. We   don't really need you know what to expect. See.  This is the name. Royal Weekend Party. 1898. [Music] It's so very nice here because no one no  one is here to check out the rooms. Look   at the lamp shade. Reminds me of a  hat. How fun although it attracts   dust for sure but it's fun anyway. I need to  share the wallpaper here because you know by   now that I have a huge passion on weakness for  wallpaper and this is worth sharing. [Music]

It's absolutely beautiful up here and  there are only two more people in here   and I don't get it because it's stunning.  Gorgeous. Stunning. And as you can see very   Victorian so in case you're visiting Warwick  Castle this is so worth checking out. [Music]   Now this bit was my favourite. Yeah, it was  great. Apart from Jörg ice skating of course.   Yeah but it was very quiet - yes - yeah, not  a lot of people - which we don't understand   because it's so to me so the decoration was  obviously Victorian and Christmas trees and the   Victorian era - yeah - Christmas decoration. The  Christmas decoration was a bit magical to me. Yes,   absolutely so if you're here you need  to check it out because to me it's like   a little bit of a hidden gem so yeah. Time for  afternoon tea here in the conservatory. Okay,

we're here in the conservatory and you might  notice I changed dresses the I like to call the   the other dress ball gown which I absolutely loved  but it was too warm so I changed into this dress.   Also you might laugh, I said to Jörg I would need  a hair stylist. I tried to do waves this morning   and I failed big time because it's windy I  look ridiculous. In in German we would say

'Gerupftes Huhn'. I look like a 'Gerupftes Huhn'.  I hope you don't mind. I can't change it. We do   have Christmas crackers and Jörg said he wants to  open it like this. No. It's It's called Christmas cracker. See. It's called Christmas cracker for  a reason. Not no problem Jörg. You don't have to   wear your crown although it's a nice one. Silver.  You would look like a knight. Yeah. Oh, it's very

big. Oh look. Look. This is for the  Christmas tree. Yeah. That's not too   bad. Oh you've got yours. You know that's  actually good because it's not rubbish. I   do like that when it's not rubbish. So  we both chose an Earl Grey tea. Jörg,   do you try to do it like in the or at The  Balmoral last year? Remember the guy who   went up like 2 m high? I mean he did a  good job. He did, he did. Okay. Jörg,   what have you got? Typical afternoon. Sandwiches  - mhm - pigs in a blanket. Oh yes, see, we've got

pigs in a in a blanket. You know what? Yeah.  Now I I think I can remember the German name.   Something with 'Schlafrock'. Yeah. 'Würstchen  im Schlafrock'. 'Würstchen im Schlafrock'. Yes. Then of course a scone - yeah - and then  some - mini cakes. I'm starting with the scone   because it's warm. Ahhh. Well, it's what I do. I  usually start with the sandwiches. I I don't know   if it's a rule break but I thought because it's  beautifully warm I'll enjoy that now. [Music] This   is so simple but - cucumber sandwich - I always  love it and cucumber sandwich. You can never have

enough cucumber sandwiches. Oscar Wilde. Oscar  Wilde. The Importance of Being Earnest. Yeah. I   love that cucumber sandwich scene. Me too. So  my favourite so far was the scone. The scone for   gluten free was really really good so I I would  have preferred two scones. What you you what are   you having there? It's like a plant pot. Can you  take it out? I think it's like chocolate. It's   the entire thing is you can eat the entire  thing. Yes, it's a dessert. Okay. [Music] Next up the flower pot. Skal. Skal. Cheers. Is it  gone? It's time to go home - yeah but I think it

was a wonderful weekend. Yes, it absolutely was.  So we've been living in the UK for nearly 9 years.   Yeah. Some people said to us you don't really  have to visit Warwick. No. It's quite touristy   and stuff like that but we think we visited Alnick  Castle in Northumberland - yes. When was it?   Last year or two years ago? Yeah. And it's pretty  pretty much the same like a lot of things you can

do. Yeah but it was nice. Yes. I mean I loved the  light trail. Me too. I just loved it. Honestly,   we've seen the light light trail light show at  Chatsworth - yeah - but his one is it's really   worth it or just coming for the light trail alone  is's really worth it. Yeah. so you have to come   in December for Christmas when it's decorated  when you've got the light trail. The only thing   which we didn't do and we're sorry about it we  didn't show you Warwick. No. We'll do that next   time. We we didn't have time so now we can't  make any promises that we will be able to film   another video before Christmas so - no, I  think it's the last one before Christmas.

It probably is so we want to wish you all  a happy Christmas. Yes a Merry Christmas.   That you are able to spend time with your  loved ones and if you aren't we'll send you   tons of love. And we'll see you again very  soon so thank you so much for your support   and see you soon. Bye. Bye. Bye bye.  Happy Christmas. Bye. Merry Christmas
