Russian Road Trip: Cheese, Steel and Brutal Techno

Show Video

Hello friends this is Russia tips tricks and travel and as always it's your buddy Tim, Kirby right here with you and guess what thanks to your loving, amazing, support you like shares and comments we, started to get noticed by some very important, people in important. Places and they've been willing to finance our first, road, trip yes we're going on a big road trip to see an international. Musical. Technological. Futuristic. Festival. That's happening in the Nishikawa region, and how are you gonna get there on a born-and-bred, piece, of Michigan Road skya technology. This, vehicle. Here this gazelle next, come on. Hold. On we got some cars coming through. Run. For it Pasha, anyways. Guys. Let's. Get started cuz Moscow traffic gets real bad real quick why, yeah. We've. Got many stops on our way to the big elf of future people Electronic. Music Festival. Because, even without traffic and detours it's a six and a half hour drive our. First stop is in a small town called petrushka, which translates, into something funny and possibly, vulgar, in English try finding out what the name of that town means via google translate and let me know the answer in the comments. Guys. Yet another, train first because we took that detour we hit a train now we're actually in picture ski where we need to be but there's a train blocking. Our way to where we need to go I don't. Know guys if you're visiting and, you want to go the Alpha future people maybe just want to stay on the main highway. Well. Eventually, the train left and the ghazal next is really comfortable, and, for the first time we didn't have to smash everything into the trunk of some rental sedan I could, get used to this big beast if I don't return it you think they'll notice. All. Right friends, this is bug, Danya, it is pizza she's number. One tourist. Location. And from what they tell me it's, also the number one wedding spot it. Just keeps a little bit of a small place but anyways they say it's an agro-ecological. Farmer. Tourism. Baseless, it's a lot of things but the main thing is I hear there's a really good cheese so let's go and see what the farming in eCollege oh look Amish people maybe Oh No oh no they're gone oh well can you see them no. Didn't, see them anyways there's a horse and buggy over there trust me anyways let's go inside. This. Is way more than just some farm as I walk about I hear classical music, in the background, and see, horse riding lessons, when, I think farming, cow poop comes to mind but this is a true gentleman's.

Establishment. The. Farm actually has its own dedicated hotel, so unlike me you could stay here as long as you want and relax. Sadly, I'm gonna have to get back at the car so we're done. But. That is, the dream project of, British immigrant, John Kappa ski who just happen to have some free time to, tell us about his big agro-ecological. Project. Horses. We've got cheese, we've got me there's a bear over there and we have sort of a museum er could you tell me just exactly what, is this, place and what used to be here, this. Place, used. To be a Russian. Coal post okay. Yeah I'm glad to, be a collective, farm he was established, in 1953. Yeah. I forget, the name of it but it was something like truth or vieira yeah, and a, lot. Of people in the West don't understand why these things were built and I think this is a discussion that go on for hours because the. I understand, now after 26, years ago that the previous Constitution the most important, part of it was guaranteeing people a place to work yeah profit. Had nothing to do with it so in these videos over 300, people they decided to build a farm yeah when, I arrived. Here, it was in 1994. We decided, that we wanted to study farming. There. Were 300, cows here in 127 workers, but. People come here they want to relax and the other thing of course we have some wonderful countryside. Round here we, have no industry, here now you go to the forest there's mushrooms berries, all. Kinds, of moss growing you, have a hundred miles of forest. Here I know in the states you have the same but here, people come here and the other thing they see is order, I like. Order, I'm a former, English guide the lawns and everything else but, patio, decor what you say that though the discipline is visit is is visual, yeah so, we just everybody comes here and since that war we. Can do this in Russia and. I think that's very important. John. Was nice enough to show us how he makes cheese, which besides hosting, Russian tourists, dead tired from city life is the, farms big seller, natural. Cheese is often expensive because it takes not ten pounds of milk to, make one pound of cheese and, John conducts many cheese experiments. To develop new recipes, and be able to reliably reproduce said. Recipes, a unique. Limburger, is being developed as we speak but it takes around two years, of experiments. To nail down one new cheese recipe, the, coolest thing was actually going down into the cellar where the cheese rests, and dries out until, it is ready for sale it, was neat to see all the different kinds all lined up but, besides cheese the best thing about bagdana, is that John always tries to hire locals, first the, best charity that you can do is, to give a man a fair wage for a fair day's work, as.

I We talked earlier this is the generation, after perestroika we're, now evolving, and we, have to we have another guy like this and. These. Guys he knows that they get good money we want to grow grow. With us and. There's. No word he, made a mistake if there's a problem down here is we made a mistake and they pay for it they, get paid a bonus for. Good work but altogether because he can't say all blood was in the toilet no they come down and they check together we've got the incredible team it, takes time to build it. After. We left the cellar John showed me the hotel that's on the property he and his wife chose, to do it in an eclectic style, which they feel is at the heart of everything Russian, Russia, expanding. So far has brought in many different styles and that somehow all, work together. Doctor. Thank you very much your time thank, you very much what you do in Russia because a lot of times people Russian could be way too pessimistic guys, let's be optimistic see, this guy can do it we can all do it everyone can and let's see if I can make it to the next city along our road trip cuz uh somebody. Get a little tired and hopefully there won't be any traffic jams so many traffic jams Oh your neck CT is three and a half. Oh. Yeah. I need a long, break. Here anyways, we, were in the small town of Sudan uh which is very hard for me to say and I actually said it right that time anyways, if you look over there there's the, st., Catherine's, Cathedral. Which is a little bit mysterious because, of the internet they both write that it was completely destroyed by communism, and then it was completely untouched, by communism, so if you come and visit you're gonna have to go in there and see which is true and the cool part is right next to it there's like a little market, there's even place a good shower to MA and if you look down this look to this so you could see that is, the ultimate. Stereotypical. Small-town, Russian, street I mean this is like the Norman Rockwell. Painting of Russia so, if you want to get true small-town. Russian this this place is almost like. Concentrated. Russian, extract, it's a great little place to visit, oh yeah. It's. Much nicer than Moscow. Which. Begs the question why are all the good careers in Moscow, there are so many lovely little towns like this all over the country they're, so small and quiet but, they also have the Internet why, do you have to do 90-minute commutes to offices in the megapolis, pseudo. Danny uns when I retire can I come live with you I miss, the real Russia ok, enough my whining we've got to keep moving. Gosh. It's always great to take a road trip and really, get to see the country and just how massive it really is if, everything's bigger in Texas then everything's, gargantuan. In Russia especially, these massive. Vistas, that, we filmed as we went anyways. Our next stop is one of Russia's most ancient cities moorim, which in my opinion is truly, Russia, Smallville. This city is well over 1,000. Years old and attracts many Russian tourists, and Eastern. Orthodox pilgrims. Ok. So why is this Russia Smallville, because, of this guy Russia's, Superman. Beowulf, Hercules, or some other legendary, character of your choice Ilya. Muromets who. Could defeat many, a foe after, when he turned 33. He got up from being handicapped, and became a super, powerful super hero in fact that's very politically correct I kind of like it but anyways more than is famous for this legendary figure it is also for this legendary.

Dinner, Roll called the collage it's a dinner with a little handle. Pretty. Good and, it's, also supposedly. For Russia's tell me where why. Kalashnikov. Is called Kalashnikov, cuz Kalashnikov, is the guy who makes a collage so, that's, things Russians tell me they also told me that the reason this has a handle is so you could eat it with really filthy hands from working and then throw the handle over your shoulder that's, called good hygiene. These. Ecology, roles are so famous and warm that they're actually on the city's heraldry. Maybe Philadelphia, should try putting a cheesesteak on their seal I mean why not, currently they just have two women standing around on it boring. Anyways. The collection I got may have been yesterday's, because, it's actually rather dry but it was only 40 roubles and I was hungry anyways, our our next stop is industrial, yet artistic, vixen. Here, we are in, vixa, oh I, just took a little stop, at this hotel changed. Clothes relaxed. And what why did I change clothes we're going to a factory and they don't let you in there in shorts one, thing I could say about VIX that makes it interesting is there's only two hotels here and this one is three times cheaper making, it my personal, choice of course, and one other thing note my room was actually, gigantic. Absolutely. Huge you could fit 10 of me in there so yeah. I'm pretty satisfied it was also very clean so, let's get good oh there's, a there's a pirate ship behind me anyways. Let's go around the pirate ship and get going the factory. Our. Friends we're at the VIX of metallurgic, factory guess what I was actually here about 10 years ago on, a tour, and you can take a tour - they're very open having tourists here and one thing you can see on that tour is that this the shook of skya tower which, is cool because actually, has a sister, tower in Moscow that looks exactly the same and I think it's by Metro Schwab love sky if I'm not mistaken but to think about this tower that makes it really cool, is not that it used to hold a lot of water on top of it it's its design, in the 1930s, this was a triumph. Of technology, being able to make such thin, thin, bars, of metal spin round and round to hold up so much weight was, really, really, something today, the kids are impressed by iPhones, but back in the 30s they're impressed by steel, did. I forget to mention that all the pipes for the Nord Stream tube pipeline, are made right here a lot. Of pipe gets made at this plan. Some, friends here we are at the division where they actually make the train wheels you know they actually make sixty percent of the world's train wheels right, here so there's a very good chance that if you're riding on a train somewhere you've got a wheel from around here. You, know living in Russia I'm starting to forget my English I forget what these are called I think there might be ingots, we could call them rods but that doesn't matter what does matters each one of these babies makes about 14, to 15 training, wheels for you need. So. Now you can see each riders been freshly cut into these big metal, basically, coins, that, are going to be stamped, down to, make the wheels. Bunch. Of Smith recover to the cheese to a class and of what both are still Syria's Alice well. What did I tell you is you see that it's cutting, through like, inches, and inches of steel it barely makes any noise I mean I'm talking loud but you'd think you would make this horrible sound it, doesn't, how do they do it.

That's. One that could be coming back there and right now it's cooking steel pizza pies at about a thousand, degrees Celsius. So they're getting them nice and I thoroughly, heated all the way through so they can stamp them down. Sometimes. Here we are at the stamping, machines each big - piece of metal has to go through a few various, different stamps, get pushed down into, the right shape here we go, pushing. Down. Getting. Into a better shape. Now. It's going to take it away to the next stamp. And. The. Water comes in to clean out any slag, or any junk that's left over heat, up. Even after cooling off the wheels are so hot you can feel they keep coming off them it's like if you put your hand over the stove you can feel the heat coming at you really neat feeling especially. It's up okay, and now we have some fresh new train wheels ready, for export and guys I just wanted to make one thing clear this whole tour with seeing all the train wheels are made and stuff this is all stuff that you can do as part of a standard tour package at the factory, we're not showing you anything that you can't do when you come here so if you come to vixen you can see, this amazing process and these amazing cranes in action, for yourself so. That's the end of day one here in vixen tomorrow we're going to leash nee-naw. Of garden so anyways guys I'm going to go back to the hotel get, some sleep a wall I'm asleep I really, appreciate if you'd like comment. Share and especially subscribe. To, our channel and hit that little bell thing it's the subscribe button to, actually get to see our videos in the few. Tomorrow. I. Think. I spoke too soon, just, as we were starting to leave the factory the workers told us that we must, have tea and cake at the local cafe and, they looked pretty serious about it too so, why, not, this. Is vixens, official, cake you know actually in Moscow a couple years ago they came up with this idea that we have to make our own official, Moscow cake whoa Nicola, is following that trend and as you can see we have the metallic. Rose, here, one of the symbols of the city and this kind of blue and green represents, the ponds. And grass that, make. Up the, area so, yeah let's. Dig in let's, eat some, Rick's office oh. Yeah. That's. A lot of calories. Awesome. To see a bus short one other thing that's weird about Russia Russians, always eat cake with the teaspoon not a fork. Just. One of those things. There's, some fruit in here and. Nuts. But, it's very moist I'm not a fan of dry cakes this is nice very moist, and, I always love when cakes have stuff in them. Surprises. Mmm. Very. Nice. Well. After, a nice night's sleep it's time to carry on down some Russian backroads and thankfully. As we move into the 21st century these back roads are getting a lot better so, it's smooth sailing for. Our big van after. A few hours drive arrived in Nizhny Novgorod which, is another very old location in Russia that exploded. In population. When, it became a major trade hub due, to being on both the volga and akha rivers and it, was one of the cities that hosted matches during the 2018, World Cup in Russia. I. Always. Forget how far away from. Everything VIX actually, is but, take a look at that view guys wow, I think I picked the right hotel cuz I'm up here where the hotel is you, get quite the view of the city I definitely recommend. Sitting. Out here and, having a cup of coffee but. Coffee gives you energy and I want to sleep so let me get my stuff let me go inside get, my room, and take. A little break here so, uh. Let. To be honest I probably, could just slept in here but whatever. Last. Year, what. Killed, me tivity passport. Vegeta, stop. All. Right finally. A little break. So. Friends normally on this program we have $100, $200. Budget to do everything, so I was trying to eat something local. Yet, affordable but this time we have no budget restrictions. So we're gonna go local, and high-end. But, the thing is going, to a nice expensive restaurant downtown and the gazelle next although it's an awesome vehicle it's not gonna work too well so we're gonna take something a little bit smaller and utilize, a Russian.

Car. Sharing. So let's see is it can open. Yes. Ok so let's. Get in let's go car rental the 21st, century baby. It's. Such a weird feeling to leave the keys in the car it's kind of hard to even deal with but anyways we. Okay. Close, it up now why. Are we here because they have a special dish that they called for schmuck I know it sounds like the name of a warrior barbarian, from the future but they say it's actually something very delicious let's check it out and find out what it is, well. Ladies and gents this restaurant is what they call premium, class which makes me very happy that we're on a road trip and we have no budget because, things here look a little bit pricey but. Gosh do they look delicious. Whoo. It's. Good to be the king let's. Do this. Okay. Guys this is what we came here for. Mmm. So. Apparently for, Smok is some kind of creamy fish, very. Different, unusual texture but really, good and. The cool thing is this. Is made from the oval fish remember the Olmo fish from our Baikal video yeah they bought it from there all the way here and I think they've done a really good job with it I like it. I've. Never had fishy a crows come before I like it. Great. Across go you know of course is kind of weird because it's almost like a soup made from pop or soda, if they might call in some places. Really. Weird but it's really dark. What's. This meal worth the price. Yes. Yes. It was. Wow. All that high-class food sure makes a guy want to do some high-class. Relaxation. And thus, I decided to head a bit north of the city and live it up a little. Alright. Guys I have kind of sick of being in the hot sweaty, cabin, of the van and also my leg is starting to hurt I need a break and I wanted to show you something that's really cool about this area of Russia even though right now we are miles and miles away from any sea erosion, guess what right behind us there is miles, and miles and miles of water so we're gonna take a little boat trip and you're going to get the seaside experience, in the, middle of the most landlocked, place in Russia. Gentlemen, working on the boat on the inside there he is our captain we are going to set, sail very, soon for adventure. Well. Friends I can tell you one thing the, Sun is beating down on me and we're going to go do something on water if you've been watching my videos you, know exactly, how I feel in this situation, I. Never. Really understood how sailboats, can go against the wind and yet still somehow move, in the direction that, they want the. Captain tried his best but, I still don't entirely get it well one thing he did say is that maintaining, a boat like this for racing the captain and his crew have gotten some very good results racing, this boat is actually. Very, expensive it. Takes about the cost of a low-end Russian car per year to keep fresh sails ropes, and other things on the boat in working, order definitely. Not a poor man's hobby one. Thing though during, turns the boat is leaning, in a brutal, angle, it is hard to believe that even with the boats massive, keel that doesn't flip over, woody feet oh it's. Very surprising how quickly it reacts, I thought you know it would just like it just. A little bit but it really turned.

Oh. Alright, well that was kind of neat you know I always my mom's got a pessimist about doing anything on water but that was actually really cool I'd recommend, it especially if, you want enjoy swimming out, the deep water if you're good enough live done now. That I'm back on land it's already really hot all of a sudden. So. Here we are guys, Alfa future people my first impression, there's one good thing here there's a lot of half-naked women one bad thing there's a lot of half-naked guys so. Lot, of ABS not, liking it but what can I do anyways, we're gonna go towards, the stage as you can see the sort of a camping area there a massive. Amount of toilets over there. None of them F toilet paper by the way and a ton of fire trucks over there so those aren't that interesting let's go down here to where the action is. One. There where, are they. There. We go. Hello. For now computer people hello. Really, the Alfa future people. Sort. Of much - France does it shoot up reopen, what. That's. A little scary sure what's your new big boss at, the hunter so no yes 1/8 also because, the country is this money no just here but you go. Yolanda. Both should be Buddha Meshech Pavan La Hoya. Request. Spasibo. Alright. Guys that's it that was our big road trip from Moscow, didn't, even know if we're stopping, off of course at the Alpha future people music, festival, and I can tell you one thing it was a great idea to come to these you know at my car it was a terrible, idea to come here by car we were in a traffic jam in the little town. That this is in for, hours. And hours. And there was nowhere to park and we actually to bribe a guy to use his driveway, because otherwise it might evacuate, our vehicle there's no parking, the lines are nuts if you can take the electric train here and while, you're on the electric train make sure you have, stacked up a lot of toilet paper because I didn't see any around here okay guys those are the big pieces, a big sort of pieces of advice I have in terms of this concert in terms of just a road trip I got, no advice it's easy it's fun it's Russia, so anyways I'm Tim Kirby have fun and enjoy, the hot box. You.

like .very informative .

7:33 lovely!

Awesome!

Fromage is not a real cheese. Fromage is a fresh cheese, something like feta cheese. No real cheese can be produced without ripening, aka maturation or aging, that lasts from several months to several years.

Amazing and wonderful , thanks TIm !

Thanks for your continued support Ulf!

Highly likely the best channel about Russia.

Guys! Hello from Nizhny Novgorod! )) Welcome!

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video!

Russians are not pessimistic. Russians are realistic despite tons of BS propaganda!

tkirby3679: because all I ever here is whining that everything is impossible. That's not whining. That's how the everyday Russian reality is perceived and acknowledged by the general population. What else should people expect in the situation when there are no rights, no way to enforce the laws, no justice, no police, no protection, no legislative representation but only outright corruption from top to bottom, oppressive laws, and almost totalitarian dictatorship? What did Putin say about the prosecution of the businessmen? In 2016 he called for halting the practices of the criminal prosecution of the businessmen with the purpose of stealing and taking away their businesses. Ha? No sh1t! Of course, these so-called prosecutions have nothing in common with the judicial meaning of this term. It is simply a way to steal, rob, and take away the businesses and possessions by the thugs in power! In 2015 the mafiosos and racketeers from KGB, police, Office of the prosecutors, and Investigative Committee filed the charges of the financial infractions and violations against 255 thousand businessmen but 85% of those were acquitted in court! Yet, the overwhelming majority of the acquitted lost their businesses partially or entirely! The televised on YouTube in real time the trial case of "Kirovles" presented no evidence of any wrongdoing whatsoever. The trial case of "Yves Rocher" had no complainant or defrauded in the first place! The mind-boggling corruption and outrageous bureaucracy along with the absence of the low-interest loans and investment options just add up to the bleak picture of the business climate in Russia.

We will have to agree to disagree over this one because all I ever here is whining that everything is impossible.

great video!

1:18 Nice catch of those VL80s leading a freight...looks like a great railfanning location. when I return to Russia to visit and see my old home city of Yekaterinburg, I'm definitely railfanning

thank you!

I love that A-ha! A-Ha!! At 13:15!!! He kinda gets it! LOL

I couldn't hear anything in the factory.

Was it so hard to get to a crosswalk at the beginning? :)

100% accurate answer.

Dude, this is Russia)

As always Tim, entertaining & informative. I wrote software for a company that serviced plastic & metal manufacturing. If you know these fine differences in metal forming you'll be miles ahead of most people: 1) Forging - wherein *heated* metal is then formed 2) Stamping - same as forging but performed on *cold* metal sheet 3) Casting - forming from *molten* metal, including _spun pipe,_ as that used on Nord Stream 2 I have placed these in order from strongest to weakest. For instance, when buying a wheel for your race car be sure it was forged, not stamped or cast.

Fantastic! Tim, my friend, you are getting better and better. Please keep it coming.

Петушки - tiny cocks. Ouch.

You are the winner sir! You wrote it first :D

In this case - just small roosters :) There are few known explanations about the name (according to wikipedia). - The town was known for the toy rooster-shaped whistles made there; - The town used to have a custom to place a rooster head at a corner of the foundation of a house; - The town used to have a tradition to design rooster looking chimney stacks; - Centuries ago the town was known to be terrorized by a gang of bandits who robbed caravans using the rooster cry as a war cry.

Thanks for your continued support Buffalo Lodge! I will, we should have another adventure coming out fairly soon.

You got me man! I probably should have done a bit of research. But one thing I do know is that you cannot cast weapons, they show this in movies often and no one in history ever just poured swords. In the future I will not mix these up! Thanks!

What a pity … you have not visited the underground Museum, in the mine in Peshelan! Great video!

Less than $3 for that cake?!?? :o (@ 14:50)

> when I return to Russia to visit and see my old home city of Yekaterinburg You'll be surprised how it changed.

"Петушки" = small cocks?

you are so good, Tim) Thank you.I am Russian but you know more about my country than I do)))

Isn’t this one of the steel plants bought up by the oligarchs in Perestroika? Abramovitch I believe owned this plant.

Isn’t this one of the plants the oligarchs bought up in perestroika? Owned by Abramovitch I believe

I love the end "it is Russia". My Russian friends always just explains strange things with this sentence whenever I am in Russia visiting :D

Your friend knows the country well :D

Well let's just say that when it comes to Russia I am an "Otaku".

You got it!

I believe the price was for once piece, I think the whole thing is $10.

Underground Museum?

I'm wondering if this is Russia's version of Burning Man in the US? Not quite as wild, but probably just as noisy, if not more so. The whole thing looks like a lot of glitz, but no substance. I'd stick to the saner parts of Russia if I were you. How about Archangelsk?

+tkirby3679 i dont think so, cuz its a typical price in russian small cafeterias for full cake. In my city i can buy really massive cake for 10$.

kool

Are u fuckin kidding me?? This english guy is talking about Kolchoz like it was fuckin fun. People's soil was simply stolen, who didn't agree was executed or sent to gulag, in Ukraine was more than 10M people killed by famine, stop with this bulshitting.

you are an idiot . In those time the population in Ukraine was 30mln (including children, women, old people) .How could more than 10M people be killed? In 1922 Population in Ukraine-27mln, in 1940 Population in Ukraine-42mln. During 1922-1940 population increased. In 1992 Ukrainian population-52mln, in 2018 Ukrainian population -35mln . What happened ? Why does ukraine become a country Where Population Is on the Decline?

+Тим Керби: Вопросы Родному Иностранцу i dont think so, cuz its a typical price in russian small cafeterias for full cake. In my city i can buy really massive cake for 10$.

Please come to the city of Eagle! There are 17 museums in Orel, Ivan Sergeevich Turgenev said that not a single Russian city has given so many writers to the Motherland as the simple Russian city Oryol. He joked that everyone in Orel loves to write. Another writer V. Katanov counted 17 writers with the name Ivan in Orel !!

Also our people love the "Нашествие" sounds like "nashestvy+yeah" in one word (Invasion on english). This that the a similar, but with rock music. This is carried out in an open field and if the rain, then everything turns into a pig bacchanal. But I don't like this festival because I'm a fan of heavier music. p.c. worked on the Gazelle a lot of time, im well know what it's like to ride long distances. The truth is I have an old version of a Gazelle and less comfort
