Must Try Food Tour in Hokkaido | Hakodate Winter Tour
good morning everybody welcome back to another video and greetings from hakodate in hokkaido uh we just arrived we're going to take you guys on a full day tour of things to eat places to visit we're going to have a really really good time today so we walked over to hakodate station which is right next door to our hotel and we stopped by this place called snaffles and they are famous for their cheesecake at this particular shop they have this uh thing that looks like uh the uh stropajo in the netherlands these are 200 yen each i think are they hot lukewarm so that's my uh salty chocolate you got from boss we're eating this outside in the snow so hokkaido right hmm definitely not waffle because the outside is kind of soft like like satoshi it is sakuto it has a texture of chocolate frosting you know but but not as sweet oh she i thought it would be more buttery though it's good though and you can only buy this here at this shop here inside the station that was delicious i'm glad we tried that that's perfect perfect light semi-break semi-breakfast yes still hungry though so our next destination we're going to is the hakodate morning market yes it's just right next to the station that's so convenient and it is snowing today but you know it's so beautiful many specialties in hakodate but the most popular one i think it is a seafood especially squid post at the station the design is like squid we both think this is a must visit on any trip here it's a fantastic market the people are super friendly i remember coming here the last time and i really enjoyed it i enjoyed the food as well but definitely take a walk around since the last time we were here we tried a whole bunch of street food here you can check out our older video for that one just click up here watch the video today we want to go and check out this place that sells crab buns for honeymoon yeah that is a cheaper alternative to buying the very expensive whole crab which is like over a hundred dollars so we picked this up guys this is called uh khaniman which means crab bun from a shop called khanimanjaya and we're just asking the lady because we noticed that squid isn't available anywhere and she said yeah they're all finished with the squid peak season is between june and november and it's already uh the end of december so she said no more squid unfortunately gotta come back next year all right so it looks like this and it's 450 yen so definitely a little price a little bit pricier than your typical pork bun but this is using hokkaido crab after all oh look at all that crab meat on the inside oh oy soda oh as soon as you rip it open you can smell the aroma of the crab oh it smells so tasty um speechless can't talk anymore so much crab flakes on the inside and i i think that's bamboo shoes there's like crunchy bits of bamboo shoots in there but mostly hokkaido crab meat oh [Music] so much crab thinning it's so pleasure homie so we're in one of the indoor marketplaces this one is called the ekini market and uh we were originally here to uh try to squid but uh right now it's not squid season unfortunately we're gonna go back to this uh stall because uh this lady she's selling this very sweet corn we tried it yesterday it was oh my goodness the sweetest corn ever and we're going to pick some up to take home with us here is nakagashot there's a vegetables of fruits mostly fruits and they look so nice and what i impressed one is this corn the name white chocolate in english it is white chocolate white chocolate it's corn look the color is white they have another kind of white corn but this one is the newest one yeah she said it's super super sweet and you can only buy it here it's very special part so we should get a few of these they also have this this is uh what's right this horseradish is called yama wasabi uh and it's a hokkaido specialty and they use this instead of the regular wasabi here so this is and we think we're gonna get this one because it's so unusual and this is yomogi that thing that uh is usually like blended in to like mochi rice this is fresh yomogi yeah it's a really good shop and the lady is really really nice we both like supporting businesses especially when the owners are super nice unfortunately squid is out of season yeah we had better come to in summer time summer time yeah they're saying summer time now this time this time it's the most popular thing is crab crab and in shinity's channel we ate so wonderful king crab i will always travel for food that's my third channel i bought an entire craft for 27 000 yen that's about like 250 us dollars that's okay i splurged did you enjoy it yeah yeah that was worth it that was worth it so hakurate is a very compact city it's very easy to walk and access to the sightseeing places you can use car i love that i love the street cars and of course you can walk everywhere we're here standing in front of 7-eleven in hakodate and we decided to pick this up because guess what you can only get this here in hokkaido this is called the saksaki lord with kamabooga fish cake but it's blended with tofu and loads were wrapped with white bread it's rightly seasoned with salt the flavor is like coming up like kamaboko but more fluffy and outside is made with bread so it's saksaki toasted toasted bread whoa oh that is interesting the outside is a very thin crispy layer of bread um on the inside like so this is like super light and fluffy fish cake hmm i wish they had this in tokyo it's so good i'm pretty sure it was sal when we came to pakoda last time we didn't visit any other shotengai shopping street here is a shotengai yeah the atmosphere is different from tokyo's shotenai the road wide buildings are different talking about the gourmet of hakodate we should visit laki piero many many lucky pair shop in hakodate area and this one is one of them every lucky pero shop has different theme and this shop is santa claus santa cross is coming to hakodate this area is called motomachi a historic area there are so many old charity buildings and all the buildings but a little bit tired lots of slopes so we are at this place called hakodate soft housing located in the moto machi area this is the preservation district of hakodate and i know it's kind of crazy that we're buying soft cream but hokkaido's famous for their milk and their soft serve uh check it out look we got their number one seller this one is made with hokkaido milk and this one is made with the hokkaido yubari melon and hokkaido's or hakko that is famous squid ink oh my gosh look it's not even melting because it's so cold so i'm going to try the uh the milk one do it wow that's pretty rich it's rich but also light at the same time it's milk flavor so there's no vanilla in it but that's a good thing because you can really appreciate the milk texture's very silky smooth actually eating ice cream in the cold might be a good idea because i can take my old sweet time and look it's not even melting they sell very interesting soft creams and now this one's yubari melon yuma melon is a very popular and expensive melon in japan and this black side is ikasimi squid inc squid is a specialty of hakodate so i bought the hokkaido specialties it's interesting the visually it is already interesting everywhere and skating combination and flavor when i when i bite the humane melon flavor comes first but later the unique squid ink flavor came what shall i say um drink squid drink i see i see i see it's like a squid ring but i want to mention about the flavor of this soft cream soft salad flavor is really thick i think they're using very good milk i love this view from the here you can see ocean export and over the port ocean we can see a beautiful mountain i love this view in winter season this rope is decorated very beautiful illumination definitely we have to come back at night this is old public heart of hakodate world yellow and blue color combination gray yellow and gray color combination for me it's quite unique so the hakota's most pop i think place is this red brick district it's located between hakodate station and hakodateama along the coast [Music] [Music] [Music] so we came to laki piero the most popular hamburger chain shop in they have shops only around hakodate area so you must come to hakodate to try this stuff so i my burger is called means big guy look this size look this burger shinichi always forced me to eat the biggest biggest one so i had to order this one the compost buns patties meat sauce cheese croquette and another party cheese and sunny-side up egg and so much lettuce leaves right i also see tomato in there tomato already oh tomato here oh that's right tomato here i don't know how to eat this but i i asked the shop ready is it possible to eat and she said uh it is pretty big but everybody eats it okay so smash first i'm my my mouse is not because like this size it is quite unsteady it's too tall so i have to keep my stick as it is i hold the plate for you right there oh my goodness wow mmm and the meat sauce meat sauce has a good flavor it's comfortable no this is this is impossible how does one eat the burger you know what the answer is organ stone fork and knife so separate each ingredient and cut the potty is it has good meat to play about um i like this sauce pretty much this sauce is a one of the key of this component burger since we have lots of extra coral care on the plate i'm gonna have a bite of the coral cave if you don't mind i feel like we're gonna be sharing the food today i got some of the tartar sauce that's inside the burger it's nice tartar sauce and it's mixed in with the tonkata sauce it was like ketchup and worcestershire saucy so talking about daki piero this drink is very popular the ki garada in hokkaido is a very popular drink here's good stuff i feel like the garana drink here is less sweet than say red bull tastes like red bull but like half the sweetness of red water i like it so i got their omurai soup they're also famous for the omonai soup it's a humongous omodeisu which is basically omelette rice omelette and inside is ketchup rice more ketchup on top and this comes in tonkatsu with some kind of sauce and that's fujinsuke which usually is served with japanese curry but for some reason they're serving with the omuricer you can also get omonizu just plain if you want oh that looks so good ah very fluffy egg the inside is a nice color [Music] yummy you know this reminds me of my mother's umbrellas it tastes almost exactly like her umunai soup the egg is fluffier than the mother's but the rice very very delicious you can taste the caramelized onions it's not too ketchupy this is served with some kind of brown sauce uh yeah deep fried to a crisp it's on the thinner side but that's totally fine that's like a gravy sauce it's like a brown gravy that's yummy this also reminds me of something i used to eat in hawaii because they used to have a pork cutlet plate lunches but instead of tonkatsu sauce it's served with a gravy kind of nice of that but like a deeper darker gravy i'm so happy i got this i thought it is impossible to eat this dojo bag but i ate all gone look this plate it's empty it was delicious the croquette meat patty both are really good sauce was also so good if you have a big stomach i recommend so next we are going to go to goryokage goriokaku is also a popular tourist destination and we are going to go there by trauma [Music] yes where are we going i found a very interesting place it's not tourist attraction okay it's a local place it's a hakota dance kitchen this kitchen yes hakodate's kitchen yes it's a market okay that's kind of interesting so the inside of the market is mostly seafood and fish stalls but the prices once again are very very low and a variety of variety yeah some we've never seen before yes that's right that's right so interesting no wonder everyone shops here i do notice that uh half of the shops are closed i'm wondering if it's because we have to come early today is a holiday or not [Music] is a former fort from the tower you can see the whole shape of this koriyokaku i have a question yes we're walking over a bridge right now are you walking over water because i see snow below us oh it's ice it's frozen are you sure yes it's frozen really sorry i'm so sorry i'm from hawaii i don't know this kind of stuff but it doesn't look like water to me what's interesting of this spot is the shape so i i certainly recommend to go up to the of the battery of goloka tower you can see whole of this fort we found a very interesting shop it's called jagaimo factory jagaimo means potato yes potato factory and this shop is operated by farm a farmer they grow 45 kinds of potatoes in setana town this shop is located very close to agoryokaku it's about three minutes from gurukaku this one is very interesting fried potato it's called torowa fritto the pink color is northern ruby and purple color is shadow queen and the danshaku potato so northern queen [Music] outside inside is soft and moist it's tasty and the potato flavor lightly seasoned with salt and potato flavor it's similar to danshaku i think it's not so sweet but it has good potato flavor i'm gonna try the shadow queen potato what's a fancy name i know it looks so beautiful it looks like a purple yam but i'm pretty sure it isn't wow it's not sweet at all it tastes like a potato like your normal potato however the texture is a little bit different the texture is actually a little creamier than your normal potato and it has a slight sweetness but just a very slight sweetness i'm gonna compare it with the more typical danshaku potato this is like the most typical one in hokkaido it's completely different this one tastes like the fries you have at um a fast food place or a restaurant but they all have a slight different flavor to get to try three different varieties of potatoes in uh fried potato form that's a dream come true and and the lady in there says um this is today's selections you know sometimes they they offer different potatoes um three varieties of them because they have 45 different varieties of potatoes amazing and in the shop you can buy a variety kind of potatoes if you want you can you can apply the potato and fry yourself at home so we went back into the store because those fried potatoes are so delicious they have some soft serve and this is soft serve made with the potato of the day or the potato of the month they're using a potato called inca rouge it's slightly like a light yellow color and it's garnished with these the three types of potatoes here oh my god look at that it looks so amazing oh wow it's very thick i gotta say it's very very thick soft serve first of all they're using a potato so it tastes like potato which is weird in ice cream however it's blended with hokkaido milk definitely a very rich and creamy intense tasting milk that hokkaido is known for you blend both of that together ah it's so delicious i'm so serious like even if you don't like sweets like you'll like this because it's not that sweet ah so good yeah it's pretty thick soft [Laughter] wait wait sushi it's tasty um yes good good milk red hokkaido milk flavor but i like this slight sweet potato taste yeah right yeah it's not sweet potato it's potato it's but butter yeah yeah and i reached through the sweetness it's like a chestnut yeah kind of like chest chestnuts yes yes it's so interesting it's potato but like chestnuts it's the most beautiful most complex tasty delicious yummy potato soft serve in the world wow might as well eat the chips huh this is the pink potato chip [Applause] wow the potato chips are good too it has that same very very subtle sweetness that the the the fry had it goes so well with the soft serve i tell you because the potato chips are salted so you get like that salty sweet combo which i love so much sorry i'm talking so much about this um a soft serve here but i love it i really really do thumbs up so in tokyo we say convenience store usually means 7-eleven family mart whilst then that's the big three convenience stores in tokyo but here in hokkaido it's usually sekomar or in the case of hakodate it's hasegawa store the hasigawa store is a chain of convenience stores only found in hakodate and they are famous for this one thing called the yakitori bento so this is what it looks like it's freshly made right here so you do have to wait a bit once you order but check it out this is yakitori most of you guys know is a skewered chickens that are grilled but guess what here in hakodate when you say yakitori it means pork you can also choose from five different sauces but this is the original so we got the original one here you see some grooves here so what you do is you put the stick right over there you close the bento and you pull the stick out like that okay so let's try the pork the piece of yakitori aka grilled pork oh yeah oh the sauce is good so let's try it with the rice and the noni it is saltier than yakitori i think so you might want to have something to drink it's piping hot and here's the spot at hal segawa store if you don't want to eat so much food this is the answer this one is called yaki bembo translation yakitori bento on the stick yes shinichi already ate yakitori bento this one is on the stick rice seaweed and pork [Music] this one is pork but it's really like yakitori in tokyo the regularly actually is gorilla chicken but this one is pork maybe around this area the pork meat was very popular and at yakitori shop they sell pork meat like yakitori grilled chicken the salt flavor is also popular but if you come here for the first time i recommend to try this sauce tare tare flavor [Music] [Music] so we've arrived guys so guys we're here at the top of mount hakodate it's a 334 meter mountain in hakodate one of the most popular places for everyone to visit it is easy to access it takes only three minutes by lope from the base of mount hakodate and even if it's chilly like tonight it's worth it coming here just for the spectacular view especially tonight i mean you could see the moon and you could see the city in all its illuminated glory once it's too cold for you just go inside because there's nice cafe where you can chill and have a cup of coffee and warm up so we came back here at night to see the illuminations so this image is really popular and it's i heard it's very beautiful yes that illumination was beautiful but this building is also so beautiful all right guys it's dinner time now we're here at this place called ben zeissen i got the shirolamen which is salt ramen that's the famous ramen of hakodate and satoshi is something else that's very special and unique to this shop so the first thing i arrived is zanggi this is hokkaido's version of their kalahagit and this is what it looks like just half size half size of the zanki is this size but look at the crispy batter look juicy the meat is so good actually one of the best zombie fried chicken in hokkaido i had today so juicy outside crispy just the right amount of saltiness really good flavor outside is so crispy inside so juicy and to do my face my face was saying everything so i got a very simple shiela the most iconic ramen type here in hakodate very clear soup as you can see very typical of shion a piece of charishu roast pork you have a naruto fish cake you have a half boiled egg you got memma which is like a seasoned bamboo shoot you got green onions and you have this which is who it's made with gluten and we noticed that this is always included in hakodate's version of shion okay so these are the curly type of noodles good what makes this good is its simplicity but you know have a lot of flavor the piece of roast pork the chashu oh yeah a good really old-fashioned charshu flavor mine is pretty interesting so this one is a sauce thick sauce this one is a combined with curry i sometimes eat curry ramen but regularly it's soup noodles this one is a super smooth it's a difference and on top of this curry so many pieces of ika squid look six pieces of icca the squid ring and of course pork noodles um um you know seven years ago we came here for the first time and i found it to be one of the most beautiful cities i've been to and i've always wanted to come back so happy we made this trip i really enjoyed it um everything we ate today was delicious still so much uh specialties of hakodate that we haven't tried but we only got so much time and we only got one stomach each right but it's such a beautiful city i love it i really really do i wish i could stay a couple of more nights but we'll be going to a different city so uh goodbye hakodate for now and um i'll see you again maybe maybe in 2022 uh sometime when it's a little bit warmer not that i don't like the cold i mean i actually enjoy the snow very very much it's actually quite beautiful with the snow and also really really happy to be able to see the christmas tree here it's really nice [Music] well that was a full day of eating and touring around hakodate we ate so much and everything was so good yeah yeah you know and i actually feel warm right now after that piping hot bowl of ramen i'm not cold anymore you guys see all the snow behind us it was very wintery christmasy i enjoyed it we really hope you guys enjoyed this video and learning a little bit about why hakodate should be on your must visit list next time you're
