Mexico City Surprised Us! North America's Largest City is Incredible | CDMX 2024

Show Video

this video is brought to  you by Squarespace [Music] welcome back to another day here in Mexico  City you guys if there's anything we know   for sure the longer we are here in the city the  more it surprises us yeah and unfortunately our   time here has coming to an end we've been here  for almost 2 weeks this will be sadly our last   video but we're going to use this time to kind  of reflect on why the city surprised us so much   during our time here I just love how loud and  bustling this city is there is so much to look   at at every single corner you turn you're  going to be shocked at what's going on in   this city if you happen to be new around here  my name is Anna and Trevor is currently behind   the camera please hit that subscribe button  and also the like really helps us out also   for those of you that watched our last video  you might know that we haven't been feeling   the best we haven't had the best luck here in  Mexico City so been really enjoying ourselves   but had some tummy problems I think that's pretty  common for those of you that come to Mexico City   the more we read about it it seems really really  common but update we are definitely doing better   our original plan was to do a full-on food video  today don't think that's going to happen cuz we   just don't really want to risk anything we are  traveling in a couple days got a lot of hours   on a plane but we're definitely going to be eating  some stuff all right we're jumping right into the   thick of it here we found this what we think  there a quesadilla Street poop place and look   at this you guys this is what it's all about  like people are just sitting around you got   food back there frying right on the street are you  excited to eat this is totally not what I expected   at all especially when it comes to quesadillas  like this is fried so maybe we're not doing it   exactly right and someone will take say we're  eating something totally different but I think   whatever it is it's going to be really good all  right a little bit of clarification here this is   actually a deep fried quesadilla I think it's  called like quas or quas not sure how how to   properly pronounce it but we got two right now  we ordered three in total one is cheese one is   chicken not sure which is which we'll figure  it out comes uh on top with some there's some   cheese there some gred cheese some cream I believe  and then some lettuce smells and looks amazing I   think this is going to be yummy and very [Music]  messy I've determined this one is the chicken is   really delicious I love all the toppings on top  because it's like inside the chicken quite mild   it's not too no spice to it or anything I think  there is some hot sauce over there if you wanted   to make it spicy but it's nice and crunchy on  the outside because it's deep fried and then   on top with the lettuce you get like a little  extra crunch from that some creaminess from the   cream and the cheese really yummy this is going  to be a delicious L well I'm really excited to   try this one this is cheese but can I just point  out how crazy this is we're sitting in this little   tiny area with like a dozen people everybody's  looking at us I don't know if they can speak   English and hear what we're saying but whatever  we're having a blast let's try this [Music] cheese I don't know what the secret is here in me  Meo with this amazing cheese but whenever we get   like an empanada which looks something like this  the cheese inside is always absolutely incredibly   fresh but then there's some more cheese on the  top got little bits of lettuce which makes it   crunchy but the wrapping itself like this  kind of like tortilla I think it's made of   corn is just exceptional you guys this is why  we've come to Mexico finally we're starting to   feel a little bit B better with our bellies and  now we can eat some more of this uh yummy yummy   street food the uh soda game or the juice game  here in Mexico is unbelievable you guys this   is actually made by Coca-Cola of all things  but it's fresh mango juice it is absolutely delicious and is back here chowing down on the  last one which I believe has some shizo okay   actually needed a few bites on this one to get  a proper consensus on whether what when I think   about it the first bite it was kind of just  all the doughy outside and I didn't really get   the inside but it is teso and also potato I don't  know if you guys can see that in the big chunks of   potato really delicious might be my favorite hard  to say all of them honestly were exceptional I   thought maybe the cheese would be the most boring  but the cheese on the inside was so exceptionally   yummy I also love the cheese that's on the top  I'm sure everybody knows what type of it type   of cheese it is except for me I'm not quite sure  but maybe you can let us know in the comments and   also can I buy this cheese in Canada cuz oh my  goodness it's so good I also want to point out   we're the absolutely only tourists here and that's  the best way that's the way it should be well that   was absolutely delicious and right behind the uh  place we just ate at there's this little uh Market   with all kinds of food there's even more food here  this is a total local market I don't see a single   tourist here you wow I had no idea this was going  to be like this so I don't I could not hear what   you just said but what I wanted to say was one  of the things I really wanted to do when we came   to this city was go to one of the local markets  there are tons of major like incredible markets   here in the city but just because of our timing  here having to move places having bad stomachs   it didn't happen but we just happened upon this it  happened that the quesadilla place was kind of on   the oat skirts of this Market called San cosme I  had no idea this was like this in here no shortage   of uh fruits and veggies you guys look at all  the colorful fruit here this is crazy place to   go if you want to do some shopping buy some food  if you're cooking for yourself good place to be   so my stepmother had actually asked me to pick  up some vanilla she really likes Mexican vanilla   apparently it's better here than that you can buy  in Canada so keeping an eye out I feel like this   be the place to get it but who knows we actually  found a large vanilla but it's not quite what   we're looking for either way we'll keep an eye  out I don't think it's going to happen but it's   just a lot of fun walking around this Market  there's so much to see I have to think on the   weekends this would be a lot busier but look at  this you guys it's just like an endless endless   endless section of different kinds of things  you can buy got candles over here some stuff's   covered up so I imagine that will uh come alive  a little bit later before we get any further in   the video we just wanted to say a huge thanks  to Squarespace a as always a huge thank you to Squarespace   for sponsoring this video and supporting  creators like us all right back to the video well apparently we're catching some kind of like  military or police I'm not sure if they the police   or not but uh doing a drill but what's kind of  neat is they're doing it right in front of this   thing so in the last video we uh showed you A View  From right over there of this but we thought today   well we'd go we'd maybe go inside huh yeah we  actually discovered last time that you can go up   inside when we were sitting over there at this  rooftop bar we were looking over and realized   there's an elevator we goes straight at the top we  can see people people walking around so we thought   maybe in the next video we should go see what the  view is like so yeah I don't know if you could   hear but Anna said there is an elevator you can  still hear the guys they're super loud they don't   know we're filming they need to be more quiet huh  a uh quick but yet beautiful elevator R up and now   we're kind of in the middle at the top so look you  can see the kind of Center up there it's uh it's a   little weird here cuz I actually feel a bit shaky  you're holding I'm not usually too bad when it   comes to Heights you're like Trevor's way worse if  we're on a balcony and we're looking down he gets   really like whoo get away from the balcony but I'm  usually pretty good about it but there's something   about being up here seeing the Dome above me and  just the way the visual like looking down makes   my knees we like I'm a little bit shaky and I feel  like I need to hold on yeah take a look at these   stairs these are the rails like a bit over here  so it makes it it makes it kind of difficult to   walk down you can see Anna way back there how you  doing I don't know they're just stared but I don't   know it making my KNE I'll make fun of her for  this don't worry a little later after the video   we do have some spectacular views here of the  square and of course the surrounding City it's   really fun when you're in a massive City like  this to come up to a high Viewpoint so you can   really get a really much better perspective in the  last video we did go to Rooftop Bar but you didn't   quite get the same kind of like perspective of the  entire city as you do up here um but you can see   like we've talked a little bit in our past videos  about the elevation and how they they made the   city so I'm not going to harp on about that but  we are sort of in a valley here we're very high   elevated and you can kind of see the mountains  around us although there is a fair bit of smog   yeah the views up here really just kind of put  it in perspective on how big this city is you   guys like look at this it just looks endless as  far as the eye can see there's the uh Square down   there as well and of course we have the beautiful  structure here like right behind we're still not   even like right at the top but this is I believe  as high as you can go so it's uh it's worth coming   up I would say yeah it's definitely worth worth it  it was 150 pesos per person so that's like what is   that um it's $8 for every hundred for Canadians  probably six and a half probably about $8 or $9   USD I'd say get per person not too bad for a  view like this so it is the next day and we   have come over to one of the main malls sort  of in this area I think it's called reforma   222 which probably the address as well but can't  use our camera so if the sound sounds weird we're   filming right now on an iPhone well there's  a reason we can't use the camera though what   well a security guard came over to us I know I but  I don't know the actual reason we took our C our   regular old blocking camera and the security guard  came over and said No cameras allowed phone's fine   but no like I don't know if she thought we were  filming a commercial I'm not really sure but yeah   that's literally the first time this has ever  happened in a mall where someone came over and   said you can't use your camera but whatever  we'll still try to do this and show you guys   what I wanted to show you is just how modern  this place is like look at the stairs and the   different floors there's like three or four levels  here everything is white even the logos are white   what I really like about this is sometimes when  you go into a mall it feels really enclosed you   have no idea what time of day it is cuz you can't  see outside this is like a big Atrium so you have   sunlight shining in so you're not going to get  lost and feel like is it midnight is it 8 8:   a.m. you have no idea I it's like you're indoors  but Outdoors at the same time so if you're looking   for like super high-end Brands like all the  designers you're going to want to go to the   paleno area of Mexico City they've got everything  there I like this mall cuz it's kind of like   middle of the road it's got some of the brands  that we like to shop at that we can afford to   shop at like there's like mango there's p and bear  there Zara places like that I mean Nike is right   behind you Nik so we'll talk a little bit more  about prices here specifically food prices coming   in we were a little shocked just how expensive  things are one thing we did is we go back and   look at reviews about a restaurant we want to go  to and we noticed the prices since like 3 months   ago have gone up drastically so we're paying at  least double the prices we were paying in the   Dominican Republic and really in the areas that  we're in uh in Mexico City here like we were down   in candessa Roman Norte I realized these are some  of the more expensive areas in the city but prices   are very close to on par with what You' pay in  like a Toronto in Canada for example so a little   shocked at that now the thing is if you go to some  street food places like we've been in other videos   you can find food for a lot cheaper but just know  that if you're going to go to some of the high-end   restaurants you're going to pay maybe a little  more than you expect you guys probably know that   in general we don't do very much shopping that's  not at all where our budget goes to and people   that watch us regularly probably even noticed when  we buy something new cuz it doesn't happen that   often but that's one nice thing about coming to a  big city and having access to basically everything   is that it does give us an opportunity to stock  up on things get some new things that we might   need we go through our our clothes get a little  bit battered cuz you know we travel fulltime we   don't have that much stuff so things wear out more  quickly than they would if you were just you know   at home switching clothes having access to a full  wardrobe so it's really nice to come to a big city   and have like all these options to purchase these  Stu and we might have stocked up on a few things   I might have bought a couple of things the other  day well next up we decided to come over and try   some wine take a look at the inside of this place  there are literally thousands of wine bottles in   this room and over half of them are Mexican wine  that's right we're going to try some Mexican wine   today I bet you you did not think that was going  to happen in this video to be completely honest I   can't think of anywhere we've been in the world  where you kind of come across like a Mexican   section of wine but apparently it is very very  popular here now we have three different wines   to try one the one right in front of me is a white  wine it is chardonay chardonay is not usually my   favorite but I'm going to give it a go we have an  orange wine coming up as well gu an orange wine   and there's one that's red as well but let's try  this out now I'm not the best at describing wine   I'm not a somal let's say that in case you didn't  know smells really good let's see Chardonnay again   Chardon is number my [Music] favorite yes it's  classic chardonay it has that kind of oy taste   that's the first thing I think about when I  think of Chardonnay um the guy said there's   also you know as soon as they suggest there's  some mango and vanilla in here I taste it right   away it's could be colder I usually like my white  wine really cold it's nice and crisp though and it   goes down nice and easy but I think we're going to  have to try this little secret orange wine I feel   like maybe somewhere in the world we tried orange  wine but I don't remember where it is I'm actually   going to go to my phone for this cuz they there  is some a few notes like in the U in the actual   menu so this the actual grape is verdejo which I  think is traditionally a Spanish grape yeah we've   had verdejo before yeah so that's what this is  made from and it's from an area called el Marquez   cartero if I said that properly so I I tried to  look up all the regions these were from and they   seem to be quite a bit north of Mexico City but  kind of in the center of the country it seems to   be where all the three wine regions came from and  he said this is an area that's very well known for   its lighter whites and sparkling Ty he said the  other thing he said is it's because of the high   elevation I guess is that's why all the wineries  are up there it's really dry really interesting   smells acidic and maybe a little bit sweet  but I can't quite tell from that or not let's [Music] see oo wow really interesting this is  one I'm definitely not familiar with it's not   sweet at all I actually expected it to be a little  bit sweet just from the smell of it but not at all   it's very very acidic it does have a little bit  of a like a punch to it I find this really really   difficult to describe because there just one that  I'm really not used to if I was picking between   the this one and the the white chardonnay I'd  actually probably go for the Chardonnay not that   I dislike this it's just something that I'm really  unfamiliar with last up on the list here is a red   I absolutely love red wine but I usually drink it  in colder climates it's 30° C today breaking some   records here in Mexico City with the heat as of  late but this is a cab Mero Cabernet Salon Mero   so you guys might be familiar with with that if  there's any wine drinkers that watch the channel   a cab usually a heavy wine low can be heavy but  at the same time it can be a bit lighter than   a cab when you blend them together they usually  pretty good this is um produced up in Guan watatu   Mexico which I think is like 4 hours north of here  again high elevation even higher than the city and   I think because of that elevation they can grow  The Grapes needed for something like this I really   like the color of this and I'm going to have to  smell it here smells Divine as well let's try it nice and smooth dare I say a perfect red wine you  would not know the difference of like if I was in   Napa Valley in California right now you would not  know the difference between this wine and that   wine I'm actually a little bit shocked here of the  quality of wine you can get in Mexico Anna was the   one who found this place she does all the research  by the way I just get to come along for the ride   and when she did I was like well how let's go  try it but how good can Mexican wine be well   it can be really really good so recommend coming  to this place we're coming to the city the last   thing we'll touch on though totally unrelated to  Wine but I'll talk about it while I sit in my wine   is the English language we get a lot of comments  from you guys and since we were here on Instagram   stories people would uh send a message a DM and  say like can people speak English here like how   do you get by do you need to know Spanish I would  say that you don't need to know Spanish in this   city there most people I would say under 40 can  speak English it seems the minute we always try   to speak Spanish for the record but the minute  we get tripped up people know obviously that   we're not Spanish they'll they'll flip over into  English so they're always very helpful Mexican   people are so friendly and they just make you  feel right at home here all right we'll check   this out they gave us some Mescal on the house  as if we didn't have enough to drink there but   anyway we had Mescal in a previous video and  I think you guys know we absolutely loved it   should we do a quick little cheeries to perfect  way to end Mexico I know ending Mexico City I   think it's obvious we had a blast here how's  the how's the me how's the Mescal ooh wow m   pungent it's good that clears out the sinuses So  speaking of sinuses I think you guys know we had   some challenges we got here we had a little bit  of altitude sickness know that Mexico is something   like 7,300 ft in height it's as highest we've ever  been highest we've ever been when you get to 8,000   ft is where a lot of people get uh altitude  sickness uh quite commonly so just know that   if you're a possibility yeah yeah we flew in here  with head cold so that was just a bit of a bummer   and then we got a little bit of food poisoning so  all the things happened but did not ruin our time   here in the city this city is awesome we had  super high expectations coming in we knew that   this was a city we wanted to come to for a long  long time we just never really made it here so   this was our first time here so many people told  us that we would love it like literally everyone   we talked to was like oh I love that City it's  amazing you're going to love it so we were super   excited it definitely did not disappoint you could  live here for 20 years and not see everything to   be completely honest again largest city in North  America and I think this is the most we filmed   one city like we put up four videos now over  the course of a month so we've done similar   like videos in Bangkok but we like hopped in  and out of Bangkok this time it was all at   once absolutely loved it there's so much to do in  this city dare I say something for everyone right   there really is and there is so much we didn't  get to do obviously it was only two weeks here   and being written off a little bit of that  there was some other stuff we wanted to do   we'll have to stay for next time yeah if you  guys have any favorite things to do here in   Mexico City leave a comment below that helps  out others and will help out us when we come   back if you don't know who we are it's Trevor and  Anna delightful Travelers hit subscribe click the   like button hit share it that just helps us out  if you're a channel member or patreon thank you   for your support that goes along way don't think  that's uh lost on us but next up it's time to go   back to our home country yes so we're heading  back to Canada but we're going to stop over in   Toronto for a few days since expect a video from  there I don't know it it's been years since we   filmed in Toronto a long time so I think we'll  have enough time to film one video in Toronto   probably going to involve lots of food and lots  of sites and in a way I cannot wait to get back   home to Canada especially in the summer you  can't beat Canada I heard the weather right   now is really good it would probably be terrible  by the time we get there but right now it's hot   and really nice that's right well it's going  to change cuz we're coming home that's it all   right guys that's it from Mexico City wishing  you delightful travels see you soon [Music]
