Holiday On China's Secret Tropical Island
I am in Sanya China located on Hainan island also known as the hawaii of China and in this video we will discover what a holiday Island in China is really like we will visit a stunning Beach try delicious Chinese food and meet friendly locals I will also find out how much a typical day as a tourist here cost and while countries like Thailand and the Philippines are really well-known Island destinations for Western Travelers this island in China does not see many Western tourists so what's a holiday like on a tropical island in China let's find out together feel free to join okay so what's the most important thing when you are coming to an island for a holiday the beach you want to have a nice and beautiful beach right so let's have a look at the beach here which is right in front of my hotel my hotel is this building right there which is actually a really really cool hotel I will show you the hotel later in the video and it's really amazing what value you can get here in China for your money but first things first let's have a look at the beach oh there's an old Auntie playing the saxophone phone here that is actually really cool I like that that's a nice atmosphere and yeah it is early afternoon already now so let's have a look today is uh Friday Friday afternoon so I would imagine very busy time here at the beach in Sona the quality of the sand looks really really nice oh and first impression here a very typical Island beach beautiful sand you have have the water there you can ride jet skis people sunbathing here although that's not really popular in Asia the locals don't really like to sunbath as we do in the rest you know the restant people we like to get a tent so when we are having an holiday on an island we just like to uh sit at the beach to get a tent but Asians usually don't like that so that's why you can see uh so many people here walking around with umbrellas despite the the lack of rain all J ski okay how how much I'm not I don't want to do it now I'm just curious how much 200 for how long 10 minutes okay 10 minutes okay ah one way around 200 yeah okay okay no now maybe later later I want to go there first maybe later yeah phone welcome to China and you know what I like about beaches in China I mean this is the first time I am at a beach in China but I think it's probably at all the beaches in China like that cameras everywhere and I know that will trigger many especially Western people in the comments who would not agree with that but personally I like it because it makes me feel safe especially at a beach I am on only one person here I'm having my phone my wallet my camera so if I want to go to the water where do I leave all this of course I have to leave it at the beach and in other countries you're always worrying about oh is my wallet going to be safe my phone going to be safe while I'm in the water well here in China I am 99.9% sure that things like that don't happen because we literally have cameras everywhere here at the beach so I feel very safe here so even as a Solo Traveler I would have no problems with leaving my back here at the beach while I'm out in the water and yeah it's really interesting actually that this island is hardly known in the rest I mean if you are from the west and you want to come to Asia for a beach holiday holiday on an island where do you go you go to Thailand the Philippines Bali maybe Vietnam but nobody comes to hyan in China nobody from the west and my first impressions here are why not this place is beautiful but of course we have lots more to see today on this island here and in the end we can draw a final conclusion if this island can compare with Islands in like Thailand Philippines or Indonesia or Vietnam oh look at that also very typical Chinese Auntie sitting in the park I think they're playing some card games here now actually very beautiful look at the the beautiful coconut trees here oh I like that that is nice and yeah before we continue to walk on the beach I wanted to show you the yeah how you call this the ocean front the main road right behind the beach because I look at this no chaos here very clean very well organized only the electric scooters here so the noise level is really really low people dancing here listening to music it's a very chill relaxed and positive friendly atmosphere here so far I really like that I am missing some vendors though you know if this would be a beach in Southeast Asia in Thailand or the Philippines there would be many people like selling things street food drinks snacks you don't really see that here only the one lady at the beach selling fruits and I am getting a bit hungry so let's see if I can find some food somewhere what I find interesting here is you see many people playing uh music like this lady behind me now and usually in other countries you also have people like playing music on the streets and they asking for money they have sometimes like a little hat in front of the so they obviously collecting money but you don't see that here none of the musicians I have seen here on the street so far had like something in front of them to collect money I don't see anyone giving money to them so I think they are not doing that for money here so maybe just to I don't know entertain people maybe they just like to play the music I'm not sure but that's just something that I noticed here and yeah I'm always getting comments on my China videos like oh you are paid by the CCP you only show the good things in China I'm asking you where are the bad things anything here that's bad I mean if there would be trash on the beach I would show you that if there would be people here trying to scam me I would show you that but that just doesn't happen here oh I think he has just been in the water hello hello cute little dog one thing I can mention though is uh the water quality here is not like typical tropical island crystal clear blue water like uh the Water yeah you can see it right here I can't even see the ground here so the water quality I wouldn't call it the best Island water quality I've ever seen so there you have it a little bit of something negative that I mentioned the water quality is not perfect here okay I'm actually curious to try the fruits here this is the mango and I think it's the the type of mango that I like the most I like the sweet mangoes that for example in Thailand they use this type of mango to make mango sticky rice so let's give it a try oh yeah it is exactly that type of mango oh you know what would be cool now mango sticky rice haven't been to Thailand for a while time to go back to Thailand I'm wondering if we can also find mango sticky rice here in China and yeah I arrived here on the island yesterday evening and I have to say my arrival process here was actually very very smooth I flew in from Hong Kong and if you have traveled before you probably know this feeling when you arrive somewhere new and you just left the airplane what is the first thing that you do you start searching for a local SIM card right and to be honest that is always something that I was very annoyed of when I'm just tired after a long flight and I just want to get to my hotel as fast as possible but I started to use eims for all my trips and if you don't know what an eim is and eim is basically a digital SIM card that you can install to your phone even before you start the journey so I downloaded and installed my China eim already before I flew here and then I was able to connect to the internet right away so literally I was still sitting in the plane I had already access to Internet and I am using a company called hly to get my esims you can get their eims either via their app or on their website they have over 200 destinations worldwide available and what I really like about hly eims is that many of the data plans have unlimited data so I'm having an unlimited data pack here now Mandarin okay but look at these dumplings here one of my favorite foods not only in China but probably in all of Asia steamed dumps let's find out what's inside here M he was trying to give me the bowl and then maybe I can use some of these I think it's soy sauce okay okay I can put in here maybe you mix it together with some things here you create like your own little bowl of sauce here this one as well I think this is garlic just a little bit okay and then you're adding the soy sauce I think and then you can dip your dumplings inside I think that's how it works ah okay okay but yeah we're having a meat inside here and corn and I think it's beef could also be pork I'm not 100% sure but either way it's delicious but let me also try it uh with the sauce here so dipping it right in here and let's give it another try this is not regular soy sauce I think it's a little bit of vinegar let me try again not sure if I really like it it adds an interesting note to the food actually not that bad my first thought was oh I don't like this but actually it's not bad to be honest I also just love dumplins just plain fresh out the steaming box almost too hot to eat them that's delicious you there's a Viewpoint that I want to visit from where we can see the whole city the whole Bay so I'm actually very curious for that I think it's going to be a very exciting View and while I'm hiking up there I'm going to share some interesting facts about this island with you I want to see the The View Point yes yes up here come on yeah okay thank you thank you okay let's see how many minutes I actually need to hike up here and yeah the first fact about this island that I want to share with you is the population here so the town SAA here has about 1 million people living here which is quite crazy right you think this is like a CO small Beach town but then there are a million people here and yeah the population of the whole island here is 10 million people and the island is actually quite large so we are in SAA now which is at the very southern end and to get from here to the very Northern end would take about 4 hours by car and yeah the climate here is tropical all year around the average annual temperature here is about 25° which is 77° fah very typical in China when you at places like this there are speakers playing music but not like without party music it's like calm relaxed Chinese Style music I saw that before at many similar places in [Music] China okay there's actually a sign here so we have different options where to go to I want to go to the Watchtower 800 more M up here there actually many many mosquitoes here I think there was even a sign warning at the entrance uh about the mosquitoes and yeah another fact that I want to share about this island this is actually a taxfree Island so you can come here if you are a Chinese and shop taxfree at some I think there are specific shopping malls where you can shop taxfree but I think that's a reason why many Chinese people like to come here because yeah they can shop certain things a bit cheaper here probably and oh man I already got bitten by several mosquitoes I can feel that immediately I'm always a popular Target for mosquitoes no matter where in the world I am mosquitoes always seem to really like my blood how how long how many minutes what do you think uh [Music] here yeah I want to go here China earlier this year not many of them can speak English but despite the the lack of English sometimes they are still willing to help they are curious they want to know where you're from what are you doing here why youing to China so I had many situations like this where people just approach me even though I didn't start the conversation and they just friendly and uh trying to help me and yeah another interesting fact about this island which is an interesting fact for all the foreigners this island has different visa rules compared to the rest of mainland China for example with a German passport I can currently get 15 days Visa free entry to China but here on hinan island I can actually stay for 30 days Visa free and I know that there are special visa rules for this for many different passports from around the world so if you want to come here and you have a non-chinese passport it's worth it to look it up and I made it there is the Watchtower and yeah total time to get here including a little break to drink some water 25 30 minutes but yeah let's check out if the view from up there was worth all the sweat coming here and yeah there was no entrance fee to get here so this is a totally free activity we have a 360° view all around so these are the mountains behind SAA and you can actually see here that the city is quite large and many skyscrapers here I think most of them are residential buildings even way more on this side have a look check it out so this is the beach over there where we have explored earlier my hotel is over there actually a very beautiful view here overlooking the whole SAA Bay SAA town and yeah I actually want to make it back to the beach for Sunset I hope the sky will clear up a bit then I'm going to re myself with some delicious food on a night market see you down there oh and look at this they even have a little train here or Subway or tram I'm not sure how you call that in English in German I would call this Sten B which translates to Street train something like that let's see if I can figure out how to use that here English oh now I feel Under Pressure because the train is probably leaving in a minute Ying dinglu 3 un okay successfully paid here we go okay and the train is still here oh it is air conditioned in here that's very nice that was already worth the 3 I already forgot the station name where I want to go to but I think it was six stations so I need to count very nice A little train here and here we go not the fastest mode of transportation here I think but faster than walking and air conditioned my country I hope this is filled with delicious meat let's see oh no it's just plain but when I was in Ching younger ate something that looked similar but it was a bit smaller and that was filled with a delicious meat so I was hoping for the same but this is uh just plain okay to be honest nothing too special just like a plain bread roll I would need like some sausages or cheese to put on here to make this a proper meal okay and one taxi ride later and we are at the night market the most popular Night Market here in Sona to my knowledge there are several different night markets but I heard that this one is the best one and yeah I just took a DD taxi right here the DD app is something like Uber or grab and you're taking a taxi with Diddy is pretty affordable in my opinion like 15 to 20 minutes cost between 15 and 20 so that's like $2 to $250 us and yeah don't forget at the end of this video I'm going to tell you how much I spent in total here for 2 days holiday so you know exactly what to expect here in terms of cost and now I am hungry I'm looking for something very specific here on the night market now oh look at this they even uh you paint something on the coconut yeah cocon actually still very soft so you have a mix of crispiness and soft potato in your mouth oh this is a meal you have this one take this one yeah doesn't look the same authentic when Chang white cut chicken rice set okay one yeah I think this is probably something similar or the same yeah I was looking around for quite a while now this is the first uh place that uh seems to have it and yeah he's preparing it over there okay okay I'm actually not 100% sure now if this is really original Hanan chicken rice because when I translated uh the menu the name was a bit different but we have chicken here we have rice and we have a little on the side which is basically bean sprouts I think and hyan chicken rice is for example very popular in Singapore in Malaysia in Thailand you can also find it it goes by the name GA mangay there and yeah the hyan chicken rice originates here in hyan and then people that came from this area brought it over to Southeast Asia first let's try the rice because the rice is not just regular boiled rice the rice has a very rich flavor which comes from the grains that have been prefried in chicken fat and then cooked in chicken broth and you can really taste the difference compared to regular boiled rice here and usually Hanan chicken rice is accompanied by a light soy dipping sauce but I think this is not a soy sauce here this is something different oh I think it's a bit of vinegar tastes a bit sour oh but the taste of the chicken is also really really good here is Ren Chung chicken a local specialty featuring hyun's famous free range chicken usually served with a mild savory sauce and I think that is what I'm having here so I'm actually not eating H chicken rice okay not exactly the dish I was looking for but pretty similar I'd say it's a camera video video I film myself I film how I eat you want to say hello hello meow he was very curious what I'm doing here I also just had a shed with a friendly local who approached me a guy I think in my age and uh he spoke very good English and we had a conversation for a few minutes he was very curious like just a friendly guy asking me what I'm doing here how I like China things like that okay and I promised you to show you my hotel room as well because I think it is really incredible what value you can get here for your money and yeah of course I'm also going to share how much money I spent here in total but first let's have a look at the room and yeah this is my second balcony the first balcony is right over there that's the balcony where I filmed the intro of this video and yeah the view from here is uh the same over the beach where we explored earlier and yeah let me show you the room that I have here and yeah I paid $100 a night including breakfast but I have to mention that this is not the room that I booked I got upgraded and the reason why I got an upgrade is because I have membership statues in Marriott Hotels this hotel is the Four Points by Sheran and that belongs to the Marriott brand and because I have gold Elite statues with Marriot Hotels I usually get upgrades but also the original room that I booked uh is actually very similar just smaller I booked a regular room with Ocean View and the balcony as well and that was $100 a night and that is the room I got upgraded to so this is the area right behind the door this is the spacious living room area and then there is one small bathroom right here and then we have a yeah walk-in wardrobe basically and and then we have the main bathroom here a shower a bathtub a second toilet and then this is the bedroom very comfortable bed good pillow selection here as well a second TV another desk a little chair and here then the second balcony and yeah I actually looked up how much this room would be and this room would be $160 a night and that's still a good price I think for the amount of space that you have here so where in the west do you get a hotel like this right at the Beach on one of the most popular islands of the country during High season including breakfast $100 a night that's incredible right I'm not sure how much a hotel would cost in Hawaii in America actually let's look it up so I have the Marriott app here maybe it's hard to see because of the sun maybe I can go inside so I have the Marriot app here which I also used to book this hotel and this is Honolulu Hawaii and we have beach front hotels here 537 to 624 which is a about $550 to $650 so that is 5 to six times more expensive than what I paid here just so that you have a comparison how much hotels like this cost in the USA versus here in China and yeah let's talk about the total cost so this is the amount of money I spent in total for two days here and that amount includes the hotel which is the biggest cost Factor but also everything else taxi cost food cost I also had some meals off camera so everything I spent here for 2 days is this amount so you can judge for yourself if that makes it worth coming here or not I had a really good time here and I'm actually curious to visit this place again but I'm actually going to leave China again in a few days and then I'm actually heading back to Germany for
