Escaping The Wild Jungle to Lightning-Struck Panamá City Ep. 40 Thulasailing
In our last episode, you joined us transiting, the famous panama canal, in only one day. Normally done in two with a stop at lake cartoon, overnight. Having been awake since three o'clock in the morning, we finally, dropped anchor in las pisas, in front of her impressive, panama city. Skyline. Whatever. The following morning we met up with rogelio. Our agent. Who fortunately, had our zapper, and cruising permit, that juan ho the marina manager, from shelter bay, where we stayed for around 3 weeks. Had somehow, managed to deliver to us. The long lines and huge fenders, we heated back into rogelio's. Car trunk. And we took advantage, of his offer, driving us to a bigger supermarket, in panama, city, together with jay captain of the third vessel, that joined us through the panama canal. We still needed to stock up for our pacific, crossing to french polynesia. I've never been happier to be in a city. I, need cities but i couldn't be. Happier. This one looks fancy, wow. We stopped at price marks a supermarket. Where groceries, are sold in bigger amounts, for fair prices. You need to own a membership, card to be let in, which regelio, kindly lenders. Entering the supermarket, there was some covert 19 protective, measures. Your temperature, was checked and you received, a disinfected. Shopping cart after disinfecting. Yourself. No one was allowed in without a shopping cart which ensured, one and a half meters distance from one another while walking around in the corridors. Shopping, again, after. Uh like. Three months i think when they've, not been in front of a supermarket. At big so. Yeah. Looking forward. Yeah and. Now we see for the first time, what has changed, really, you can see all the. Cashiers. With these plastic, protections. And also in on in, front of the face which is really strange to see for us. And. Um. Yeah. This is country life when we go back to the boat actually we were, very protected, until now we will have to.
Use A lot of, sanitizer. And also sanitize. Or disinfect, all of the products, that we have, in our. Little. Carrier, right now. Yeah. Different life. Huh. This area. Is a. High. Performance. Because jay had some trouble with his cell phone rogelio. Tried to find an open phone repair, shop, entering, a so-called, high-risk, area of the city. You could feel he was not really comfortable, taking us there but it was the only area he could think of where shop suitable, for jay's needs, might be. Open. So filling up, diesel, and gasoline. Look at this prices, it's. 43. Cents. Like, 10. Per liter. It's like. What is it, 37. 40, 40 cents. For the euro cents per liter. Um in germany you pay, for a liter of. Diesel at the moment. Year of 40 or something. And gasoline, like 53. So we're gonna. Get. A lot of diesel and gasoline, here. So we just wanted to buy a little bit. From a little bit, meeting in the supermarket. After a long long time. It. Had got has got a little bit out of control. But this is the last time, for a big big. Supply. Do. Nice canisters, for. Tonight. Was a long day again, tomorrow. We're gonna stay, i think. One more day and sort everything out. Go early to bed and then. On, saturday. I'm gonna sail to las palas. They. Released, the curfew, for this week but then from tomorrow, on there will be another curfew. Um. Until further notice so no one is allowed to go outside, again. So, we will, uh. Have today, a fun day, in panama city, and have a look at the city. And then tomorrow, we're going to leave. To las pianas. And from there then. The. Pacific, crossing. Yeah so we only have two hours yet, uh left and the, first time for us to take, uber, or do to use the uber service. Uh so there's aaron coming, in a few minutes. With the car, taking us to casco. Vehicle. Streets, are empty here, no tourists, at all, just few people walking around. And a lot. Of people. Me. In front of the stairs leading to the esteban huertas, promenade, this panama, canal memorial, built in 1921. Pays tribute to the failed french effort to build a canal in the panamanian. Isthmus, during the 19th, century. A vital finding for the completion, of the panama canal today, was that yellow fever was transmitted, through mosquito, bites having been one of the main reasons, why the first attempts, failed. Correspondingly. The bronze rooster, on top of the 18 meter high obelisk. Represents, hope and. Faith. Too hard for you, to head for me taught for me too hot for nutella. All righty, trying to improve my cooking skills. Cooking, baking skills my baking skills, at. 38, degrees, here. And this is what i made a carrot, banana, cake. With. Chocolate. Chips inside. So it's half for the guys from halle. Revival. And the other half is for sailing taller. If you already followed our sailing journey beginning in the caribbean, and barbados. Then you also know rasmus, and matisse. Whom we had met there after our atlantic, crossing, and our dinghy had gone adrift, which we never found again. They had invited us open for pan pizza. A recipe, ilya had initially, given to rasmus. Having been stuck on sailing yacht series, with his co-skipper, matisse, for over four months. Due to corona. And missing crew that could not be flown in he surely had used this time to perfection, the recipe to the last bit.
It Was a bit like home being cared for and listening to danish songs, as denmark, is just around the corner of keel. When returning to chula after a wonderful, evening, it seemed as if one of the bad lightning storms was approaching, panama city. It is said that your chance is one in five that you are hit by lightning the las brisos, anchorage, in the rainy season. A catamaran. We had just been over to had been hit badly, just two days ago with lots of broken. Electronics. Luckily, mordor, was not as furious, as it looked like that night only granting, us a bit of, rain. Here's the morning view of the dirty captain. Yes i will bring you a bucket. Yeah so i think we did everything, right. In this situation. So from monday, on in panama. Is. It's the curfew. Again. So, this was the only week where people can move. Easily around and go shopping, panama. Normally on curfew, you're, allowed. To go out, two hours, per day. Depending, on your, password, number. So. Um for example i don't know if you have. The last, letters, like a b. Then you can go out from. 10 to 12, or something. So this is how they regulate. And they're pretty strict on that. What happens if you don't. Obey to the rules. I heard there are. Huge, fines but this is only maybe too scary to people, i don't think that's. I mean nobody can afford that. So we crossed the panama canal, and did our groceries, in panama, city. Without, any. Any issues, and. Yeah and now we are on the way to isla, palace. Palace. And. From the 15th. Of july. People, are. Allowed, again, to. Enter, french polynesia. So, it's. About. A little bit more than a month from now. And, we need a month. To. Go to french polynesia. So hopefully. By the time we are there. We don't need to make. Do some, quarantine. And. Just enter the. Country. There's trash, floating, around here everywhere. Small pieces, lots of shoes, we've seen, bottles. Lots of driftwood. And. I wonder why oh. Yeah. Big logs. Big big. Block. Alrighty. First day traveling, again so we are here on the las palas, islands. And, uh. We, anchored here. In some nice bay a little bit rolly, but, that's all right. So there are three other boats. In anchorage. Sailing. Job tour. And. I don't know that one, but, we are invited, today for dinner. Australian, bowl. Jana is preparing. Salad. Inside. Performing. In. In the kitchen. I'm sitting outside. Having a nice. Drink.
