Climbing Africa's highest mountain - Kilimanjaro (full experience)
One day you understand that staying in a warm couch and comfortably numb just isn't an option that's why we look for experiences to unplug from the routine and to feel raw and hear your inner voice. In my case it will be a Kilimanjaro trip it will be my first time flying abroad from Russia after February 24th and they asked me so many questions on the passport control like why are you going there what language do they speak how often do you go to the mountains for how many times have you climbed the mountains is it scary why are you doing this oh my gosh but thankfully I'm already boarding the plane thank you just got a Visa and I have one more flight from the capital that is Salam to Kilimanjaro wow it's the first time for me to walk to the plane just like this foreign foreign but climbers naturally passed this town on their way to Kilimanjaro so I'm here the first shot for me is that most people here wear warm sweaters hoodies down jackets and it's like plus 25 Celsius but for them it's winter time why are you wearing this warm coat Tanzania at the moment in June in the morning where I'm staying it's a little bit cold that's why I wear like this so but when I'm walking so plus 25 is cold now it's probably plus 27. yeah in the morning we'll see more here yes yeah Mia was feeling cold why does everyone speaks Russian here private yeah okay what advice would you give me to climb Kilimanjaro climbing Kilimanjaro is not all about the physical effects but what I can recommend you you have to listen to your guide always make sure you drink enough water always push yourself to eat enough so you can make to the top I will try Matata repeat after me Hakuna Matata what Hakuna Matata Alexey ready yes I'm ready what about you we are at lamosho gate and here the porters take everything these are actually the guys who are going to help us to climb the mountain Our Heroes so guys this is the motion route this is the LA motion gate and in front of you these are the crew members it consists of uh 34 guys including the guides the cook and the waiters and all the porters so I would like to introduce you to the your crew members okay we've got another guide assistant guide will you meet with this guy yeah you already know him his name what's my name Alex so he's got another guy we are three of us hey guys yeah his Gideon is uh AKA yeah and me you know me so my name is Robert I will be leading you in this spectacular your favorite and good trip okay thank you very much say salute salute thank you very much for your time wow two three follow Alice and we're ready to start Mount Kilimanjaro is a dormant volcano it's the highest mountain in Africa and the highest single freestanding Mountain above sea level in the world after making the decision to climb Kilimanjaro you will need to choose your route there are seven main Mount kilimanjaroots which lead to the summit Uhuru pick I decided to do the nine days Northern circuit route the longest of the established truths but it has the advantage of being much less crowded than the other ones and good for acclimatization we start our climb at the elevation of 2100 meters at lamosho gate and we start in the rain forest and throughout the climb we're going to experience all types of weather climate zones so far it's like a jungle we see a lot of monkeys and it's pretty warm so far okay clear let's go oh what are you bringing eggs very dangerous subject to Port be careful don't fall why are you carrying it on the head it's easier like this yeah foreign my head would just squash you uh what okay I want to tie your shoe because so from La motion gate we have only 48 kilometers till Uhuru Peak yep yes it says 34 hours can we make it Maybe all the best let's run slowly slowly that's how you're supposed to climb the mountain Polo we made it to the first Camp yes good job we just arrived at the camp at 2895. and the guys already set up the camp here and cooking already
that is so good anything good yeah you're the main cook yeah yeah so what's in the menu today what's your name Peter Chef Peter Peter teacher the chef so it's the end of day one it wasn't that difficult about three to four hours of hiking and now it's gonna be my first night on the mountain Kilimanjaro I can already say that this experience in Tanzania is so unique if I compare this to my last climb which was the highest mountain in Europe mount albros in Russia the experience is So Different Here the porters carry all the heavy things for you your tent everything you just carry your day pack and there is 34 people of staff for seven members of our group the porters three guides the chef The Cook the guys who carry the toilet also the waiter and when we arrived to the camp they already set up the tents prepared the food so they cook they wash the dishes there is a toilet only for our group I'm like what on Mount Alberts I felt like an alpinist you know it was very hard here I feel like on a vacation but I'm not gonna say that climbing Kilimanjaro is super easy it's just day one so let's see what the next days prepare for me hello popcorn wow at six they will bring water for washing and then at 6 30. okay and at seven this is Mount Kilimanjaro is my second Mountain out of the seven highest peaks of the world why do I go to such extreme places always seek to do things to become comfortable with being uncomfortable climbing High Summit seems like a perfect activity to expand my comfort zone to get outside of my comfy swamp but the goal of reaching the summit isn't as important as the challenging and beautiful way itself foreign I feel like Colorado or Utah states are like this I imagine them like this I might be wrong but I love these views another thing that attracts me to join such drones is new people that you meet on your way the team with whom you climb the mountain hi I'm from Chicago Illinois I'm also from Chicago Illinois I'm from Trinidad and Tobago I'm from San Diego California hi I'm from the Philippines I am from Houston Texas Alexei yes where are you from Russia really yes I'm from Russia what city I forgot the series I'm Kilimanjaro you even have the opportunity to try the local African cuisine wow I can't believe that we have such a delicious food at this altitude so we have a zucchini soup toast chicken and chips so good do you like it I love it nice food after this hike very good and of course getting to know the Tanzanian culture and people sleeps tonight I can't hear you about you are we okay teach me Swahili I have the motivated to use the weight yes yes when you say pambana for gaido Pota you know what I mean let's say work hard work hard no you don't teach me a Russian words baby teach me to say everything is good you say foreign oh my God I hope one day I'll speak Russian well and connecting with the nature far from the business and noises of civilization foreign okay four eight three over 83 yeah I think it was already 88 over 100. oh it's going over let's see let's see 92 or 40 oh oh it's 19. it's dropping
again why are you nervous stop breathing then 95 see a line for food what do they give today foreign how are you good it's a loose it's okay it's okay okay um the tinglings become something okay yeah that's why so it's a side effects what do you think about Mount Kilimanjaro when you are climbing do you have some mind opening insides uh for climbing a mountain Kilimanjaro make sure you have try to train your mindset it's not hard it's not easy to climb human to Kilimanjaro for real sure or maybe you get sick and uh the other thing is to listen to your guide the guide is a person who professional to take you up to the mountain is it a difficult mountain to climb no it's not difficult if you just follow the rules for like a positive mental attitude you'll get there it's not that hard crying big philosophy is first of all this poly poly climb political so that your body can acclimatize nicely okay follow the guide's rules and also keep your positive mental attitude that's the key to get to the Uhuru pick if you want to succeed the problem with Kilimanjaro is the enemy there is an enemy called the hasi the altitude sickness that's the great Envy so that's the one in us the success of people going to the top of my team members started to feel headaches stomach aches or nauseous even on days 2 and 3. I felt pretty well during all this time until I've got called on day six back down it's going up the nervous right it was very cold at night and I've got a sore throat that cost fever and temperature at Mountain sickness to that and bad stomach together the whole mix of emotions feelings if tomorrow I don't feel any better I really can't continue I'm very sad about this but right now I don't even care I'm not even at the base camp yet not even talking about the top but like this I can't continue let's hope that I feel better tomorrow hello Ellie I'm gonna bring hot water for drinking doing it thank you so much okay welcome so much okay okay thank you okay thank you morning the news is I feel a little bit better still have a very painful sore throat kind of a headache and maybe a weakness but today it's better I would say it's tolerable so I will try to go to the base camp and today is also the most difficult day because we go to the base camp which is at 4 700 meters and this evening is the summit push well I will be heading to the base camp and then we will see high five base camp I made it here at some point I thought that I wouldn't even make it to the base camp but this evening who will set off to Uhuru pick our final destination I have a very sore throat very painful which makes also headache but I'm not giving up if I started this at least I will try to finish it and if you would ever also like to climb Kilimanjaro consider the company follow Alice which I'm here with I'm just amazed by the service that the team provides here on the mountain when we come to the camp everything is set up there is delicious nutritious lunch or dinner and the team is super lovely and supportive and while I've been here I learned one more extremely important thing about follow Alice company other thing I love for life is because everything is open everything is open when you guide make sure no close close or maybe in Swahili we say no konakona everything is open for example now I am a in the mountain Kilimanjaro so my bank accounts about thoroughly is already in my account I'm not finished the job but my my salary is already in the bank account and the other thing about tipping foreign I really love the fact that all the portraits and guides highlighted that they appreciate the trustworthiness of follow Alice so I am proud to collaborate with such a reliable company and to recommend them to you okay you will experience pain you will experience fatigue you will experience nausea dizziness because of the sleepless night okay so if you experience those just know that it's a transition those things are there it's normal it's a transition as the sun comes up everything will be over okay yeah that's what I can tell you and also put your positive mental attitude that's the number one key to plan okay yeah foreign let's go are you ready foreign congratulations foreign thank you boo boo we're almost there almost there man we're doing it Uhuru let's go let's go breathing like this okay let's go guys let's go let's go foreign I see it in like a Simba 100 meters I don't like your life are we really at the uh horrific really I can't believe this here we are at the rooftop of Africa high five Pascal so can I recommend you you have to have to steal the motion route this is the LA motion gate okay clear really yes I'm from Russia what city I forgot the series afternoon high five and also keep your positive mental attitude that's the key to get to the whole Peak yes it was so so hard every time I thought that I'm gonna give up at some point I don't know from where I got strength and energy to get here like every 20 minutes I thought that I'm gonna give up I don't know you can't get here by um physical strength only by some I don't know mental crazy strength so happy that I'm here thank you so much of Africa this is Robert the best guys anyway we have to have the best client here Kim! good job good job best Porter ah good job Dimitri good job you're so strong I'm so so happy you hide for me the main goal is not to climb the sandwich but to get down safely and healthy so now we are going back to the base camp you were quite a hard destination I think once in a lifetime is enough I would call Uhuru pick never again you would clamp again there's a lot of crap to do this we'll find something else yeah I was going to give up when he said that we have 40 minutes left but then I was like I don't want to come again and do this all over again so I'm gonna climb it we did it yeah that's good nice to hear this good job thank you by the way I have a tradition on my channel to hide my trash Cuddles in places that I go to inside the doll there is a note from me and 100 troubles wait what are you gonna do with the Russian money in Tanzania this time I will put 10 000 Shillings then the first person to book any Kilimanjaro tour with follow Alice will get the doll just ask for it when you arrive here I hope this tradition will motivate you to travel more what do I want we already got down at the foot of the Mountain at mueka Camp every time I finish an expedition like this I promised myself I wouldn't do it again but for some reason I do it again and again like last year I went to the highest mountain in Europe Mount albros which is in the south of Russia I did it twice because the first time I didn't make it I will put the links to those to a sense of albros in the description and you let me know which of these trips you would do and which mountains you would like to climb maybe one of the Seven Summits so let me know about your experience with the mountains what mountains are on your list and thank you for joining this trip with me bye nowhere what does it mean this is a South African azulu phrase
