Leave a comment Check-in and -out is done at the elegant reception area A walkway leads from the reception area to the hotel's central courtyard, complete with pool, stucco turrets & palapa rooflines The history of Belmond Maroma began with a love story In 1976, architect José Luis Moreno was flying over the white beaches and lush jungle of the then undeveloped Riviera Maya Moreno found himself smitten by the beauty of Punta Maroma, a remote bay located 40 km ( 25 mi) south of Cancun Years later, Moreno and his wife settled down in a small dwelling by the beach Over the years, Moreno added a restaurant, rooms and suites to his beach villa to accommodate his friends and family He worked with a family of Maya masons - true believers of the Sacred Geometry - to align his residence with energy fields Maroma was the first hotel in the Riviera Maya, and established itself as the heart of this magical coastal stretch In 2002 the resort was acquired by Orient-Express Hotels, which changed its name to Belmond in 2014 Maroma, a Belmond Hotel features 72 rooms and suites I stayed in this suite during my visit (room category: ocean-front one bedroom suite) The suite features a separate living area, a spacious bedroom with kingsize bed, and an ensuite bathroom A spacious terrace fitted with chaise lounges offers a view of the beach and the resort's bar area In 2023, Maroma, a Belmond Hotel, reopened following a complete renovation with Mayan culture at its core Internationally renowned designer, Tara Bernerd, was at the helm of the restoration, working hand-in-hand with local artisans The original design and architecture of the property was preserved, including the beautiful white stucco buildings Curved lines and organic forms inspired by the property’s wild surrounds mark the indoor-outdoor flow of public areas & rooms Every design details is unique, including 700,000 pieces of tile that were created for the hotel by master ceramist José Suro Other design elements include hand-carved wooden furniture by Alfredo Joffroy and custom-made glassware by Max Kublailan Welcome amenities include a carafe of tequila & a beach towel Welcome snacks include fresh fruits, dried grasshoppers, nachos and guacamole The suite features a gorgeous handcrafted minibar Let's return to the courtyard to have a refreshing dip in the pool The pool features Sukabumi tiles hand-made from volcanic stone in the same turquoise tones as the region’s many cenotes Right next to the pool is a boutique  dedicated to the finest Mexican luxury labels A corridor leads from the hotel's central courtyard to its extensive beachfront area On the right side is the hotel's dining complex (shown later) Freddy’s Bar is a casual tropical hideaway open all day for beachside drinks A large beachfront terrace is situated in front of the hotel's main restaurant, Casa Mayor (shown later) The hotel is located along Maroma Beach,  one of the most pristine and famous beaches in all of Mexico This is the hotel's most exclusive accommodation, the four-bedroom Villa Maroma Let's return to the hotel's courtyard, where guests can learn the artisanal process of cooking corn and making tortillas by hand From the courtyard, idyllic walkways along the beach and through the jungle lead to the suites and spa Maroma, A Belmond Hotel is home to a brand-new  spa by Guerlain, the very first spa by Guerlain in Latin America The spa marries the French Maison's wellness savoir-faire with a deep appreciation of nature and vitality The spa offers a comprehensive menu of treatments that draw inspiration from Mayan culture The spa’s signature treatment is the “Bee Healing Ritual”, a honey-based treatment renowned for its healing powers The spa features top-notch facilities, including a vitality pool A sauna is located inside the locker rooms The spa features 9 treatment rooms enriched with local design elements such as geometric shapes & artisanal objects The spa has its own apothecary where guests can learn how to identify herbs in nature & use them for healing therapies Right next to the spa is the resort's adults only pool area The adults only pool area enjoys direct beach access The resort's gardens also house a third, family-friendly pool The hotel is home to a state-of-the art-fitness center One floor above the gym is a Yoga and mediation pavilion Night falls at Maroma, a Belmond Hotel ...
