after three months and over 2 000 miles  of cycling from the top of Alaska, we found   ourselves in British Columbia, Canada. it was now  October and winter was fast approaching. we knew   it was coming but nothing could have prepared us  for how quickly things changed, as we soon found   ourselves completely out of our depth. so we're  now cycling into a blizzard that's gonna go on   all night and dump over a foot of snow we don't  know where we're going to Camp yet tonight but the   road's starting to get dangerous so we're gonna  try and find a friendly looking house and see   if they'll take us in for the night. in this episode  we find ourselves at the mercy of the elements and

completely reliant on the kindness and generosity  of people we would encounter along the way what have you decided we said that I couldn't decide if I  want to go all the way to Argentina   until three months of riding. I needed to see  for myself if I like it or not and I love it   so I decided today, three months, I'm  going to Argentina. are you crying? hi there we're traveling on our bicycles and  we were hoping to find a spot to camp by now   we're wondering if you have any  flat land that we could just put   our tent up for the night? thank you so  much we really appreciate it, saved us thank you so much to Debbie and Lothar for hosting  us, those guys have cycled all the way to Ushuaia on recumbent bicycles so they  had a lot of good advice for us we've got a problem my rear rack is broken it's just completely come off it's definitely snowing definitely We're now heading out of Fraser Lake, we've got some very wet snow so we've got our   Wally gloves covered in plastic bags which is doing  the job yeah pretty cold day but not too bad what's the good news I received a message one way or another we will find a warm dry place for you. Thats so good!

so today has been really  quite tough we've had some really bad weather   um everything's good apart from our feet  we just don't know how to keep them warm   um we've got a thick socks on  two plastic bags boots and like   hand warmers inside the socks  and they're still frozen solid well thank you so much well I guess we'll see you down at the store much nicer weather today thank  you so much to Katryna Chris and   Jayden for the amazing Hospitality we're  definitely in good hands around here hello so Katie who we stayed with   um just a couple nights ago asked a friend of hers  if she had any spare clothes for us, any warmer   clothes and they just left in the bag outside  their house this very nice fleece for me so nice so last night we stayed in the trailer of a  guy called Adam thank you very much Adam for   the warm place I just checked the weather and in  around eight days it drops to minus 19 Celsius   which is temperatures were not prepared for um  basically we need to get to a place called hope   which is around 650 kilometers from here and  until we get there we're at danger of being   caught in temperatures that  we're not prepared for at all   so the next week or so we're gonna be gunning  it for Hope which is a very appropriately named   town and once we get there then will be  safe and from there we'll just be riding   in the coast and the coast doesn't get below  freezing so that's the plan and wish us luck found a really nice campsite  tonight right here beautiful view so last night was -5 I believe um it felt like  it could have been lower uh I was fine but   Victoria didn't sleep all night because she  was just so cold and she was bundled up in   all her layers sleeping bag sleeping bag liner  um and it's only going to get colder from here   so I think we may have to try and knock on  doors from here on out until we get to Hope   snowy day today we have a landslide just ahead  that I'm hoping we can get the bikes around   but if not then we'll be backtracking to  the highway but it should be fine hopefully, we'll see the landslides there and it's very bad but there's  a footpath here that they've made okay now push what's your name? my name is  Jas. thank you so much Jas, this is very kind tonight we've been offered this very nice Greenhouse to  camp in which is slightly heated so   we won't be down below freezing  tonight which will be very nice we just got to Williams Lake um the time is now  5:21 so we have around 20 minutes before Sunset   we beelined to the bike shop hoping that we'd  get some sympathy but we didn't so um we're   looking at other options of places to stay um and  I think next up we're gonna try the fire station   so we'll see how that goes we've had success at  the fire station um they can't let us stay here   but luckily the guy we asked is the chairman of  a church nearby and he said that we can go there   later and sleep warm tonight so we're very happy  about that because it's extremely cold right now   oh no it's so good good to warm  us up there is a futon down there   so one of you can even claim the bed  if you have a towel there's a shower   oh amazing yeah it's like they built  this place with cyclists in mind right   um starting at noon tomorrow there's going to  be a pretty ugly winter storm come through all   right six to eight inches of snow tomorrow wow  yeah and it's early we weren't expecting it   either yeah so we've been kind of enjoying  an extended summer yeah I think it's over it's the next morning we're just packing up um  we're trying to set off pretty early today as   there's a blizzard forecast for this afternoon  so we're going to try and get to the next town   before that gets too rough and then find  somewhere sheltered to stay for the night it's   a pretty interesting way to travel that we're  completely reliant on the kindness of other people   and we have no idea where we're gonna stay each  night and we're just hoping that we'll roll into   these towns and someone will take care of us and  every time someone has so we're just hoping that   we can continue this streak of luck and make it  to Hope before temperatures drop too much in a   few days it's supposed to drop to -20 and we're  not really sure how we're going to handle that   um but we've decided just to take it  one day at a time and see where we get to so we're now cycling into a blizzard thats gonna  go on all night and dump over a foot of snow   we don't know where we're gonna Camp yet  tonight but the road's starting to get dangerous   so we're gonna try and find a friendly looking  house and see if they'll take us in for the night thanks Chris for the gloves I don't know  what I'd be doing without them to be honest   and thank you Katryna for my beautiful socks  they are the most beautiful thing in the world I think we should stop as soon as  we see a good house there I think   we should stop because it's starting  to get dangerous yes I cannot see anything you guys are staying here tonight.  oh no way thank you so much Gary yeah we got a   suite that nobody uses but there's a bathroom in there  oh yeah there's a bedroom right there awesome we   just use this for the kids usually yeah we'll get  you some um bedding. thank you so much that is incredible this is amazing   and it's got a picture of Amsterdam with  a bicycle on it what more could we ask for we've been convinced to stay and catsit for the  next few days until the snow clears up and it didn't take much convincing stop it after nearly a week with Linda and  Gary we're now back on the road   uh we've got around a week to Hope the only  thing to worry about is that the shoulders   are very icy but yeah we're  very excited to be back moving hello I'm just yeah worried about  your flooring no no no it's it's vinyl Hello, hows it going? yeah good, we've got the fire going oh  amazing so and it was Barb and what   was your name? Dave. Mike and Victoria? Greg and Victoria  nice to meet you thank you so much   and just relax, come up when you want but if you  just want to relax just go ahead We rolled into Cache Creek didn't see any  churches the fire station was closed and   then we saw this Motel called Tumbleweed  motel and you know how could we refuse well done well done thank you we just got into this Spencer's Bridge   the Sun is setting we stopped at this little  RV park but they didn't have anything for us   um and then just as we are riding off unsure  of what we are going to do Phil pulled up, rolled   down his window and started chatting to us and  then offered us his trailer for the night so it's   it's always just in that moment that we have no  idea what we're gonna do and we're worried someone   just comes and and sorts us out and takes care  of us we're so lucky it's been pretty incredible   so uh there's no one living here right so  uh I will go home and get the keys I've got chores to do at home, my wife is blind so I've got lots of work to do So you play around here and see what you can do you can sleep in as long as you want, all day if you want. Victoria loves to sleep in

so what is your plan? We started at the top of Alaska 3 months ago. oh wow today is the first time in a while that  the temperatures have been good enough   to camp for the night so I'm actually  really excited to have the tent   back up. we've been getting a bit too comfortable we made it - woohoo! quiero falafel! (I want falafel) just cut it man talk me through what layers you've  got on. okay so down I have

2 huge socks and then in my pants I have my pajamas and then my  pants and in the top place where I get more cold I   have my buff I have my long sleeve and then I have  I have my fleece and then I have my puffy jacket   and then my other fleece, my hat  and I'm gonna sleep like a queen yeah you are. it's time to get rid of our bear spray so we thought we might as well give it a try you ready ? it doesn't go that far oh it's in my nose oh
