Alpe d'Huez ski resort | Is it WORTH THE HYPE?
hey guys Gilles Riou from Top Snow Travel I'm currently in France I just arrived in Paris yesterday I'm going to be riding in Alpe d'Huez with my two best friends so we just picked up my other buddy it's 5:00 in the morning we're in for about an 8 to 9 hour drive hopefully it's a nice, no traffic on the highway all the way to the French Alps it's about 130 km an hour speed limit so should be pretty easy nice and smooth let's go we're on our way to Alpe d'Huez so we left Paris this morning at about 5:30 a.m. and took about 7 hours it's about 670 km to get to the ski resorts there's another way to get there you can also catch the fast train so they have direct train lines on Saturdays and Sundays from Paris gare de Lyon to Grenoble if you want to go to other French ski resorts from Paris you can do the same so direct train lines on the weekends and you get to Moutiers which is the main hub for the three Valley and a lot of ski results in the Tarentaise Valley you also have Bourg St Maurice on the same train line and you can get a direct train under 5 hours from there you get a private transfer, we can organize that for you It takes about 30 minutes to get to your ski resort the best airport to fly into the French Alps for the French ski resorts is Geneva most of all the premium carriers fly there the best airline to fly to Geneva for our Australian clientele is Emirates and Qatar they only have one transfer in their Hub in Dubai or in Doha for Qatar Airways otherwise most of other airlines they have to go via another city so Zurich, London or Paris but if you're going to be going to Paris you can drive down which is what we're doing now to the French ski resorts however I would recommend catching the direct train for hasslefree cause once you get to the ski resort you don't really need the car there's everything there supermarkets, shops your car's just going to stay there in the car park in the parking for a week so catch a train if you can or if you're going do a bit of a road trip and stop over along the way then it's a nice way and now we're just about to arrive in Alpe d'Huez for a week We'll be staying at the Residence Daria-I Nor which is a five star and let's see where we are i don't really know the area he haha We just arrived at the Residence Daria-I Nor, so we're going to check-in into our apartment for a week's stay in Alpe d'Huez nice 5-star bonjour I'm at the Chalets de l'Altiport in Alpe d'Huez it's probably one of the nicest area of Alpe d'Huez there are tons of chalets, beautiful chalets just by the slopes it's a nice quiet area my favourite part in Alpe d'Huez anyway look at those beautiful chalets they're absolutely stunning so many of them we're in Alpe d'Huez, we're going to be doing some paragliding the weather is not the best but uh we're going to check out if the wind's alright go paragliding, check out the views should be a fun ride very exciting not the best weather very cloudy I wish it was nice and sunny and beautiful but we're in the mountains don't always have everything snow and sun ideally snow at night sun in the day that'd be great woohoo merci paragliding in Alpe d'huez with AkèneFly so good super so good how was it? so good the best thank you so much merci Guillaume smooth landing so good wow so good what an experience definitely worth doing it if you're in Alpe d'Huez, go and test out paragliding you can do it from different Peaks depending on the weather conditions but it's such a good thrill great ride loved it I'm about to do some dog sledding in Alpe d'Huez so much fun after doing a bit of paragliding earlier today should be lots of fun lots of speed looking forward to it the dogs are beautiful, it should be a fun little the ride let's go just finished dog sledding what an adventure that was so much fun you can get quite a bit of speed the dogs seem to love it they're always having a good time it seems so they look well looked after you can do that at most resorts I guess dog sledding but it's it's a fun thing to do especially when the weather's not good or you don't want to ski for the rest of the day but there you go we're about to go snowshoeing up on the mountain and go on a little brazero raclette dinner so cheese fondue dinner on the wood fire so should be a nice little activity little outing great for dinner time I'm about to feast on some beautiful raclette and charcuterie out in the wild kind of with a nice little fire very nice I'm currently in Alpe d'Huez at Les Bergers area i'm about to go riding there's been a bit of snow in the last few days the weather's been so bad it's been not really nice I mean Alpe d'Huez is called l'ile au soleil which is the island in the Sun but unfortunately this week we didn't get good weather so hopefully it's clearing up now later on we'll be going to La Folie Douce and having lunch at La Fruitère it should be fun, some nice food good entertainment as always at La Folie Douce like you get at all throughout the French Alps it should be a nice day and hopefully if the weather's good today we'll be able to do a helicopter ride so let's go and have some fun woohoo we arrived at La Folie Douce about to have a nice feed, listen to some music, performances great setting great atmosphere beautiful views of the mountains i love La Folie Douce ouais merci merci beaucoup in France as you may have seen in other videos you can get a Café Gourmand and they basically give you a coffee with a mystery of assorted pastries and little desserts, little cakes so that's what I just got now but I don't drink coffee so i just got a tea but you get the idea it looks pretty nice you get a few little cakes if you like a bit of dessert at the end of the day after a meal it goes down quite well it's our last day in Alpe d'Huez just been at La Folie Douce i had a good time had a great week party time after La Folie Douce, you have two ways of getting down you can either catch the Marmottes 1 gondola if you had too many drinks or you can ski down with the Berger and Agneaux blue run towards the end of the day you get stunning sunsets and a beautiful view of Alpe d'Huez we're at the Altiport in Alpe d'Huez we're about to have a scenic helicopter flight you can get a helicopter ride all the way to Les Deux Alpes if you wanted to it's not really expensive it's about €70 to €80 and when you get a 6-Day lift pass with Alpe d'Huez you've got access to La Grave and Les Deux Alpes so definitely a cool little outing to do with your friends and family catch a helicopter to Les Deux Alpes this time we'll just do a tourist drive, scenic helicopter ride look at that beautiful sunet check it out nice stunning all right so we're inside of a we're on our way in Alpe d'Huez we're about to go to La Cabane restaurant we're going up in a snowcat quite spacious we're at La Cabane, about to have some probably raclette or who knows cheese fondue, tartiflette, something like that something with cheese but it's a nice expense you come up in a groomer at a high altitude restaurant made of wood made of stone it's called La Cabane restaurant looks very nice let's check it out we're at La Cabane in Alpe d'Huez cheese fondue with charcuterie it should be quite nice look at all that cheese there's nothing like a cheese fondue so nice, so delicious nice and warm after a big day on the slopes it's snowing so much outside, it's bucketing we're at La Cabane in Alpe d'Huez we just got a little groomer, little machine to go up the mountain get some cheese into ya i'm at the top of Pic Blanc in Alpe d'Huez 3,330m it's quite high quite beautiful views the weather's not that great today that's alright visibility is good so we're going to be doing La Sarenne the longest black run in France and in Europe hopefully it's not too steep check it out have a good time La Sarenne is a must do on your next ski holiday to Alpe d'Huez it offers stunning views of the surrounding peaks even on a cloudy day just imagine how beautiful it will be on a nice blue sunny day although it is considered the longest black run in Europe with 16 km I'm not really impressed by this big claim it is more of a mixture of blue, red and black run rather than a whole 16 km black run all the way down from Pig Blanc having said that, it is definitely worth doing it's a really nice long incredible run forget about the technicality of it being the longest black run in Europe This should definitely be on your list in Alpe d'Huez at the end of La Sarenne you can continue on, on a blue run called Gua which leads into the forest this run is really beautiful and peaceful and leads you straight back to the Alpauris chairlift that gets you to Alpe d'Huez beautiful sunrise in Alpe d'Huez stunning beautiful colors with the buildings made of wood it's very nice look at that last day, we have to go it's been a great great week in Alpe d'Huez not the best weather until we leave today but it's okay part of life part of the mountain can't always have blue sky day with powder days but great times very nice loved it look at that
