9 BEST things to do in Langkawi Malaysia!

either loving it or hating it langkawi gets mixed reviews from tourists and travelers i'm going to show you how to make the most of this place but first let's understand it a lot of vloggers that I've seen and a lot of hate for Lancawi that I see come on happens because they come to Chinang and they're expecting something else now legend has it that a certain restaurant moved in here um and being a huge international uh corporate entity um it was capable of um paying anything that the landlords uh requested that being said it set a new bar for um land prices and um it drove locals out apparently this area used to be dotted with traditional Malaysian restaurants run by families with only the affluent few remaining or seeking partnerships to basically continue business uh with what you see today i'm not being critical of this uh it's not my place to criticize this but when you come to Lancawi uh and you have a dream that turquoise waters and seeing little fishing boats going out from white sand beaches and eating fish and rice on that beach under a palapa roof uh if you think that that's what's going to go down you are mistaken you know on jet skis banana boats all kinds of stuff so it it really is a commercialized beach at this point but if you do come here looking for that you know that that that lonely planet shot you know um it might catch you a little bit off guard that is the backstory on uh where we're at with uh with why it is the way it is so you accept it you adapt move to the interior of the island enjoy Malaysian hospitality and food and all all of that um this way Chinang is a great place to get resources um is it a good place to eat though no is it a good place to get groceries no everything is gentrified so you know it is what it is again this isn't a criticism it's just simply um giving you a little bit of the backstory helping you understand why things are the way they are and um you know we we can't control that situation we can only control how we respond and as travelers um that's something that you just have to learn to embrace you you've got to adapt renting a motorbike will not only give you the freedom to do what you want when you want to but to break away from the crowds and go experience this island's absolutely stunning natural beauty and the cultures that lie within the interior it's an absolute must very good yeah thank you how much do you charge for a scooter per day okay for the scooter actually those two 65 ringgit per day this one is 95 ringgit per day this one is 55 ringgit per day i can offer you under 50 which is like under 50 yeah and the new scooter you won't get anywhere if you you are interested I can give you this new scooter under 40 or very if you are taking for few days then maybe you can go 35 the last did I mention negotiate listen you've got to take the initiative and get off your butt on this island you've got to make it happen and you'll have some amazing experiences drawing lines in the sand this route is short but breathtaking and don't forget to turn around and go back the other way it's stunning and the only thing better than cruising is hiking it's a 16 km loop that brings you back to Chenang and you can walk down to the shore i don't know about you guys but that is where I want to be up there this is the luxury oh that's a hot guard rail the luxury of hiking is that Oh jeez how do we get up there it's not a proper stair staircase it's like a Yeah but it would give me a good view these are weird they're like downward sloping really weird this is for like drainage yeah not proper stairs but yeah so so far so far so good though nothing like 33° in the open sun on the stair master all right you guys can see what I can i haven't turned around yet see what we got oh yeah these are the views only hiking can give you [Music] by supporting small local businesses like fruit stands or even these tiny little uh Lancawi run stalls that are located around and along the Chinang Strip you can you know make a difference while tasting something not only delicious but that's a little bit more authentic than say Mexican food okay [Music] you get more sugar yeah okay so this one is a very natural and very freshly ice cream mhm yeah it's no chemical no anything very healthy thank you you've chosen to use paper can you tell me why you've chosen to use paper because paper it can be recycle and then it's a very help for our environment okay so save our earth you know not a lot of businesses do this yeah yeah um so you feel it's important that businesses take steps to do this it's important especially we have a beach out in front there so we need to take care our environment as well excellent thank you for doing that thank you you also want to get on that bike and out of town and find a nasty kur place they're all over the local villages this is how Malaysians eat you got to experience it at least once do I just serve myself yeah okay so five and eight so some of these are more expensive one period okay it depends how much that's Yeah that's really good thank you in the four weeks that I've lived here I've not once eaten Nasi Kpur with a foreigner it's all locals nobody stops by these places um they're incredible look at the variety guys you can't miss this opportunity and coffee take a coffee coffee yeah black meat sugar little little sugar sugar no milk little sugar no milk this in my opinion is the way to get the most calories complete meals that you can um while experiencing Malaysian culture Lancawi culture that is while actually injecting money into the locals's economy not local economy omelette with like cheese maybe mushrooms we got some kind of like sauteed beef greens broccoli with cauliflower and stuff all sauteed or rice [Applause] underneath can't go wrong with that at all speaking of supporting locals economy Raj suffered a stroke and his family rallied around him and they started this kitika is my daughter she was our our first uh child uh daughter in our family but 2 years ago I felt sick then that's how we start up this business so I'm not fit to work anymore in a company so this is what I can do so we do something like this so my mom can cook we run by our own families they specialize in the southern Indian inspired banana leaf spread with curries and all you can eat rice 15 ringit we're getting curried cabbage unlimited rice at this restaurant curried eggplant curried spinach this is a chutney we got papa dams um we got to go with the mango lassie it looks like we got some strawberry sauce and some whipping cream on there too and then these are our curries we got fish curry dah and uh chicken curry so you're curry you're making the dah curry for the banana leaf and everything later okay cool this one fish curry this is the fish curry fish curry also cook okay so you do the prep in the morning and then all the things I want to prepare very good very good okay i got to run to my table and eat i'll see you later raj's mother here is preparing my egg onion dosa for breakfast um they do a great job and actually here in Malaysia they use uh rice flour instead of millet it adds this um extra crisp I guess is the best way to describe it is it the dosa batter yes is it made with millet uh this one is rice rice okay is that a Malaysian adaptation yes cuz in southern India you use millet right indians uh want this one mhm so after you put the egg goes on okay okay you just let that Just let that cook for a bit how long does it take few minutes yeah okay it's already done eh done [Music] done so that's super fast yeah in a moment so what should I say say the same thing the way that we cook is like how we cook in the house it's a home cook where we don't add any extra MSG or any other flavor so how whatever we cook here we we also eat the same thing so it's supposed to be healthy they also have in my opinion the best nasi lak in the Chinang area they serve it with uh chicken sambble sauce rice eggs uh roasted peanuts and sardines it's the perfect meal now if you consider yourself a hiker in any shape or form have some good upper body strength and don't mind a really good challenging trail let's say about a 7 out of 10 uh then this is a must number one the ride there on your bike is amazing you're going to see monkeys beautiful jungle winding roads through the mountains and then you pay a 10 uh ringit entry fee to the park and away you go i think these are the swimming pools that we can get into after being up here there's zero people around and I think we can just like hang out and chill so I'm already soaked in sweat if if we get to it that's going to be amazing you can see the beautiful kind of carsted rock formations and then all the cable car nonsense going up i'm sorry i I call it nonsense i'm I'm a hiking purist right so maybe you know when I'm a grandpa and my hips and my knees and everything don't work I'll appreciate that stuff absolutely but while you got it you got to earn it you know it's that's the journey man this is it it's not the destination it's the journey how's your day going yeah nice to see you okay take care bye-bye yeah have a nice day bro thanks [Music] man all right we're half a K in this is what we're on same as before guys so let's say that's our half click check i'll shut off save my batteries and uh check back with you when there's something to see yeah she gets steep yeah I'm almost at the top of the canopy though so is she going to open up i wonder and I wonder what kind of views we'll get when she does all right we're starting to break through the canopy i see an arrow sign up there this is what's behind us let me just pivot yeah it's all that huge cliff that we were following and climbing up this way it's all back there now and uh this is what we uh this is what we're dealing with at the top hell yeah okay let's go get this done oh I got to be getting close yeah I see the canopy really starting to kind of disappear oh yeah well that ain't good guys that's a rope look how afraid that is wow someone's coming up hold on here i think it's cuz it's getting rubbed against the rock here and all the friction look at that wow someone's coming up that man that's That's unforgiving if that goes there's not a lot left in that i'm going to report that to the the gate there the guys who managed this yeah that could be bad for someone guys look at those geckos massive i don't even know their colors okay all right but I've definitely made considerable progress this still isn't the end wowzers we got open ocean some islands out in the distance over there yeah we've got just peak after peak after peak i mean and you consider where we started and where we end up this is a hell of a climb holy smokes it's the rope work the the scrambling you're crawling on all fours this one this one you earn it's special on two levels it's special because um it's challenging and you have to really pay your dues to get up here and it's special because well you see this part of the planet from this perspective that a handful of people you know a relative handful of people get to see oh hell yeah woo this is it baby we did it guys we made it matching Chan Peak oh I don't like those cliff edges i can handle being up in like the middle but when I get when I even look at the edge I start getting weak knees this just keeps going i'm I'm literally just walking on the tiny little wee peak at the top of this mountain staying on this tiny little trail and it's the God Almighty over to my over that way uh yeah so let's uh let's keep our feet on the ground where they're meant to be yeah dodgy bad decisions it is a moment of pride to see my backpack leaning up against that sign right there all in all this trail is well worth it gives you an amazing sense of completion it does kick your butt on the way up though and it's merciless on the way down this is something that's repeated online on like trails.com for example so make sure you're ready for it and in all honesty you might want to skip a meal for this one just so you have room to eat and eat and eat um there's so much food here local stuff so Lancawi Malaysian but as well as a spread of like Japanese and Korean um amazing it's like a local crop hey sugarce grown here and it's like super cold with the ice super refreshing lime with sugarcane juice man got to try it they're like little abomaly yeah mini mini like a master right pro now the first time I had a palik was in KL man happy birthday it's like the best beach food we got peanuts sugar peanuts peanuts then you put corn right yeah corn yeah now I'm partial to a pomalik so I tried that but um you know there's so much variety here and even if you're not hungry it's worth coming alone for the spectacle so you got to check it out you making chicken yeah cool i hope I can get Gnung Raya on motorbike is an absolute must it's a perfect stretch of road up a mountain with beautiful views so we are officially in uh one of the Lancawi UNESCO Global Geo Parks and um on the map give you guys an idea of where we are we are right over here so we've traveled from in here and we've I can't see the roads but anyway we're all the way up here um and this is what we get guys let me just bring you out to this beautiful vantage point just spectacular views well number one this is totally accessible because it's it's based on a road there is a trail which you can take i haven't seen the trail head um I did speak with a hiker if you ever find this channel shout out to you but I did speak with a hiker and uh she said that it was just overgrown not wellmaintained or anything so I think the ticket here on this one is to take the little road demons are here behind me and I'm putting my [Music] arome it's a loss of God jesus freaking Christ holy smokes storm between you and [Music] me did I just rush no it's already been forgotten did I mention this route was amazing for motorcycle travel it really is i mean the road is paved um a few little rough patches but nothing like potholes at least when I was doing it um and here you see me at the top and I'm just basically cruising down you can pop it into neutral if you got a manual transmission and enjoy that breeze man it was really really nice worth mentioning is Okay well you saw some of the wildlife already um but there's also these signs that the UNESCO heritage site posts explaining the geological rock formations how the island came to be um so it's informative but also like explorative it It really combines a lot of different elements i absolutely love this i'd put this at the top of my list for must do things so so far what I've seen here on my little island tour is this northwest coast here um with what translates I can't remember the local words for it but it's what translates into black sand beach is it as fine and powdery sandy as um Chinang for example no but you do get a spectacular view i would imagine if you got some snorkels kit in and around these rocks would be fantastic and sorry there was an ant on me and there's nobody around like you'd have these to yourselves really nice really nice area here it's quiet it's local you've got local food cafes and stuff scattered up along the highways i think that this is more of a authentic Lancawi experience the further either inland you go to and around surrounding that big mountain that we did originally or pushing up into the northwest coast yeah what has me totally surprised is that there's nobody out here it's stretches of open beach now mind you I'm with the fishing boats right now which is pretty darn cool but I mean there's nobody want a quintessential Malaysian beach experience without the noise come here enough said coming in from the north Qua really surprised me i immediately saw this tower in the distance and I had no idea it was here it's the Maha Tower and uh you know what better thing to do than to stop by for ice cream uh all the flavors are available uh yes uh only pistachio you don't have pistachio okay oh what are the prices this one for cup one scoop two scoop three scoop okay all right and wafer code wafer code add on one 90 cent wafer code nothing free nothing free oh come on mint and chocolate chips mint and chocolate yeah and do you have caramel brittle now the tower's nice there's a beautiful view in behind it they want to charge you $30 to go up a few stories to look at the same view from above um I mean you can choose whether or not you want to do that for me I'll climb a mountain and get the view i don't need to pay money to go up a tower um anyway moving forward uh just cruising through Qua here look at all the colorful buildings and stuff i I I love the vibe and it really caught me off guard again i wasn't expecting this large of a settlement and lo and behold so if you need a little bit of civilization uh the city's here and uh yeah looks pretty cool it's a really nice area to just kind of cruise around and uh and enjoy well this might seem odd for this kind of a list some of the villages have really talented barbers the difference being 15 ringgit you pay in a village 45 in Chinang so shop around and uh yeah get a good haircut to be honest I was giving in to the online hate in the first two weeks but then I realized that this place actually takes you being proactive you got to get up get on a motorbike and then the island opens up and you start satisfying those travelers needs like adventure like independence like you know eating with the locals and chatting with the locals and stuff um you've got to get up and make it happen here but if you do it's really enjoyable and definitely an unforgettable experience well if you didn't find that entertaining I hope you at least found it useful and uh you know I'm getting out of here
