Inside a HISTORIC COTTAGE IN ENGLAND'S PRETTIEST VILLAGE

Inside a HISTORIC COTTAGE IN ENGLAND'S PRETTIEST VILLAGE

Show Video

Hello from Castle Common Wiltshire. We are in one of the prettiest villages in England. We are I think this is actually our fourth time here. And not only are we in a lovely village, we are staying in a wonderful cottage right in the center of the village. And we've got visitors from Germany here. We do. So my

sister and her brother-in-law are here. They've never visited the UK before. And Castlekum was on the wish list. It's all very exciting, actually. So let's show you our cottage. And this is where we're staying. It's

called the gates. Parts of this wonderful cottage are actually from the 15th century. St. Andrew's Church is next door. As you can see, there scaffolding right now.

Well, most of these buildings here are so old and need restoring in between. This time we are so lucky because the market cross is without scaffolding and it's a wonderful sight to behold. And now let me give you a little tour of the gates because I think you will really like it. So this cottage sleeps six people. So you made a fire. It's so strange. Look how you walk in there. It's like

two steps down. Walk into the sitting room right away. And this cottage is actually quite spacious with lots of nooks and crannies. This is the sitting room and I really like the old Engle look. So, as I said, you have made a fire because it's quite chilly today. And let me turn around slowly. So, here's a window seat on the other side. By the way, this is a lounge area.

You can see the low ceilings and old wooden beams. Actually, there was a fire in 2004, I believe. And lot a lot of the things here got destroyed, but as you can see, they tried to keep some of the beams, but here you can see replacements, but it's still it hasn't lost its character. And this, by the way, look at the the old flag stone. I always love that. This is the staircase into the or up to the bedrooms.

And here it seems is a cellar. So, I won't show you that. This is a a little hallway actually. And here we said we didn't find any information about this. This seems to be the old original door entrance door and they protected it with glass. So here, before I show you the

kitchen, this is a downstairs loop here. And this is the kitchen. The cottage I find it so deceiving because it looks more from the outside but as I said so many nooks and crannies. So the kitchen with dining and breakfast area also quite spacious actually. As you can see, this is a bit more contemporary, but still in keeping. So, let me show you the other side. So, also here

Then this staircase, it reminds me of my stay or our stay with my parents in castle six years ago because the staircase was I don't know how to call it. It's quite you can see the steps are so narrow. You have to be very careful. Now there's a this is a double bedroom which I will show you. And let me show you the main

bedroom first which is actually by the way I just mustn't forget the details. Look at the the gothic door frames which I really like. It makes you feel as if you are in a chapel or church. Now this is the main or the master bedroom and it has a church window it has so much character. So the story behind it the church St. Andress church

next door was restored and is now still or again being restored. So it was restored in 1851. And they took the window. So this is from the church, not the glass, but the window. But back in the day, strangely enough, they put a wall in front of it so you couldn't see the window. And when there was a fire, I

mean it was devastating, but if there is something positive about it, they removed the stone wall and then inserted this gorgeous glass. I think it gives it so much character. It's a gorgeous room with the with a very high ceilings. And you can see those are the original beams.

This light is so much fun. And it's a big room. I really like that they don't have carpet here, but wooden floors. Really, really lovely. Now, another gorgeous window seat. This is the other side of the

master bedroom, which has a bathtub, freestanding bathtub. And then the corner there is a basin and mirror. So a bit quirky but lovely. This room is very very nice. And next door is a gorgeous twin bedroom. Ah, you know what? Let me show you the bathroom first.

So this is one of the bathrooms. Also high ceilings, big mirror. As you can see, it's a big cottage. It's so deceiving,

isn't it? I really love the the door frames. To the right is a twin bedroom. Now, the twin bedroomedroom houses, the oldest parts of the cottage, and when I showed you the front, I said 15th century, which is not true. So, the wooden beams in here are actually from the 14th century. And I hope you can see it. You can tell that there was a fire. So, it's great that they were able to save these beams. And here on the other

side of the room is a wooden wall which makes it look very rustic and warm. So like it very much. Also here a big mirror chest of drawers and I think even this room is so spacious. So

here on the other side is the the third double bedroom. The style is a bit different to the other rooms with this white wooden bed and the stripey curtains. Also from here you have the view towards the cemetery which we really like because it's part of part of the villages history. So you

can see the old tombstones. I really like that and don't find it creepy whatsoever. Let me turn around slowly. The the ceilings are a bit

lower. I told you about the different nook or or all the nooks and crannies actually. So, here around the corner is a shower. So, hard to

film. And here you can see the room a little bit better. A chest of drawers. There are so many hangers. I've never been to a place that has so many hangers. It's

incredible. And on this side is the basin and toilet. The big mirror. So that's really great, isn't it? A last view from this corner. I'm now outside behind the cottage And this is actually the cemetery of St. Andrew's Church. And I'll show you in a

second because the tombstones end right in front of the kitchen window of the gates, which some people might find scary. We don't whatsoever. We spend a night here already. It's absolutely fine and peaceful. See? So here we have three

old tombstones and our kitchen window is right here. It's unique but not scary whatsoever. It's all part of the experience with So this is the cottage where we're staying. And to the left is something I remember so very well from our very first time here.

There's like a stand where you can purchase hot drinks, espresso, cappuccino, latte, tea as well, and cold drinks and some cakes like a lemon drizzle. See a flapjack, carrot cake, and here to the right, brownies, blueberry cake. and chocolate fudge. I really love that. Heat. Heat.

This here is the cottage that we stayed at with my parents 6 years ago. It's called Middle Cottage and we absolutely loved it. It's basically so when you enter the village, this is where these cottages are. It's a bit more quiet. Absolutely wonderful. Because the weather is absolutely incredible this afternoon, we thought we would visit a very small village called Bitstone. Yeah. Which is very famous and only a 10-minute drive from Castle Cove.

So, yes. And it's famous because the detective series Agafa Raisin was featured here. Yes. So a well she was a PR agent turning into a detective. Detective. Yes. and actually was standing next to her cottage. This is Akata Raisin's cottage

in the series and in reality it's called Elm Cottage. Very pictures. It's w mysterious season and we can never get enough. Look at the visteria here. You do find it in Germany as well, but not as much. So, there's a cottage for sale right behind me. I'll show you in a second.

And once we got back to our cottage in Castle Comb, I'll check this out on the web because we have a website called, so in case you don't know, the website is called Right Move where you find absolutely everything. And that's the cottage here on the right. Looks quite nice. It's called Coin Cottage. Also, this one looks quite

nice. Willow cottage. And look at this, the big house. Beautiful, isn't it? So this morning we are in beautiful Lake, a very charming and historic village used a lot for filming and series such as Downtown Abbey, Harry Potter, and so much more. I can't even tell you all of them. It's

still being used because it's incredibly picturesque. And I well my sister, it was my sister's wish to again walk in the footsteps of my mother who we lost coming up two years ago at the end of April. And we did something similar last year in Germany, walking in my mom's footsteps and where she grew up in Germany. And yeah, she wanted to see the spots where w my parents visited and it's absolutely it's such a wonderful thing to do. Today is Tuesday. It's

actually quiet in Lakeok, which is so nice. And the last time we came, there was a wedding. It was summertime. It was very hot and it was absolutely wonderful to see. And now I want to check out the church. I think my sister and

brother-in-law really like this small village as well. How fun that they still have this stand. It was here when we visited with my parents six years ago. By the way, I

absolutely love this vintage Land Rover and what they have here. Let's have a look. See, they have mering chocolate mini egg merangas. Oh, here a giant mering. All flavors one pound each, which is It's good. Lemon

mering. A plain meringue. Oh, here. Have a look. Jam. And I absolutely love the labels. This is absolutely adorable. All handmade in Lakeok.

really really beautiful. So, it's £5 per jar. And look at the bisteria. It's picture perfect, isn't it? And here on the other side, they have more jam and jelly. And here, pickle thoret quail eggs.

Here's some honey. And here, what's that? Oh, that's wild garlic pesto. I just need to check it out. All of it. Oh, that's fudge. Today we are in Bath. Well, we can again

we can never have enough of Bath. So you can't have enough Bath. Well, yeah, exactly. So, my sister and brother-in-law are with us because they've never been Yeah. to Bath. We thought we well to the UK in general, so we thought it would be a great idea to show them around. Yeah.

So we have just been to this place which is called sweet little things here bath and yeah fancy it's something sweet. So this is you have to it's called a honeycomb shouban. So it's a shoe shun. Is it is it called a shoe pastry or pastry? Yeah, it's just very good. It looks good. And well I have free macarons actually. Yeah. Pastely pastely

colors. And we have some music. in the background. Good. Amazing. Yuck is quite indulgent. Has been quite indulgent

these past few days. There is caramel in it as well. Yes. Oh, it's amazing. Heat. Heat. Hallelujah.

Heat. Heat. Good morning. Good morning from Downtown Abbey or H Highler Castle. Hiker Castle. So it's well obviously we left Castle and my sister it's it's quite a funny story. We talked about Downtown

Abbey for years. They never watched it and then they started and now she wants to see Downtown Abby. So basically my sister became obsessed. So, and it was

on her wish list to visit H Highler Castle. Yeah. And here we are. Here we are. So, sadly, we can't film inside, but it's great to be here. Although, it's so cold. It feels wintry.

Yeah, it's 10°. We also So, my sister, we we she doesn't want to be on YouTube, which is completely fine. So, I get that actually, you know. So yeah, we tried to

film a little bit and now let's go inside. You know what? I can't wait for a cup of tea. Me too. So this was our second time I was going to say down to Navi at Hair Castle. I really love the inside. Although it's grand and big of course, it still feels like a home to me. This is what I said the very first time. I actually really like it. So, and

now we're going to explore the gardens. My sister and brother-in-law really like it as well. And what more can you ask for? that. Was such a lovely day here at Highclair Castle. I must admit I was a little bit concerned about us coming back because sometimes when you return to a place a second time you were disappointed but I wasn't. Y wasn't

either. We left the inside of High Clair. The garden of course as well. the inside. Although it's so big, it still

feels homely. I can't I can't even put my finger on it. It I think the proportions of the rooms are perfect. So, I'm also not sure about this video because we're traveling with family.

filming wasn't our priority because we we wouldn't be able to enjoy our time together by filming too much and all the time. So, we try to throw in bits and pieces. So, I hope that's okay. As always, we'll see you again very soon and thank you so much for watching. Bye

from Highline Castle.
