The design is wrong. Large battery modules cooled only from one side will result in an internal temperature gradient within the module. The battery will die faster. You need to cool every cell individually.

I appreciate the effort and the passion, but this presentation is a clear and bad imitation of Steve Jobs' style while the car is a clear and late imitation of Tesla, which achieved the same technology years ago. Also, Tesla had much longer for iterating towards a more mature technology and it won't be easy to catch up. Please try to distinguish yourself more, but again, congrats for switching from prototype to product.

I think when you design an electric car you have to avoid a front grill by all means. It's just a rule of thumb. I like polestar but really it looks like a regular car somewhere between skoda and dodge. Only the back and rims are 100 % premium look from my perspective. anyway I'm happy to see more pure-electric cars with reasonable perfomance.

Certainly a nice car. I can see problems arising with the embedded driver-presence seat switch mentioned in the video. Over time wear and tear might cause malfunction and the car might switch off at the side of the road. What was wrong with a start button exactly?... A start button is pressed for one half second to engage the system. With the embedded switching you are sitting on it.
Agreed, what if I simply gonna take a rest inside the car? I will have to then probably say to Google - "switch it off for now".

So we have awesome headlights in a car that Tesla did a better job at 3 years ago and they managed to do this in a grey and white smushed down Dodge Charger. Everyone seems to forget that the biggest advantage for Tesla right now is the Supercharger network. I'm surprised that yet another manufacturer has decided not to become part of this. Why would I buy a car that at this price point where I couldn't go several hundred miles with the aid of a quick charge or two like I could in a Tesla?

Yet another “made in China” car, with even a big customer group being China, I wonder if that might be having something to do with a Chinese company being the biggest shareholder of Volvo? Probably. I don't want be rude or anything, but I don't see any groundbreaking engineering breakthrough in new Polestar 2. But I am happy that they are making only EVs as the ultimate goal of Tesla is coming one more step closer. You can see and feel their low level of confidences in their own vehicles. They are badly trying to follow Tesla like all other EV car makers. They are 2 to 3 years behind of Tesla. I wonder why all those people are cheering and what they are excited about? Putting a big screen to replace everything is just pure laziness, it was probably a compromise tesla had to make as a startup to save manufacturing costs. Besides, if you can't take inspiration from other people and what they are doing, we'd all still drive Mercedes Benz cars because they invented the first petrol car.

Perhaps when charging stations are as numerous as GAS STATIONS then 500 km ( 310.6 miles ) would be practical for long-range travel assuming the charging time was 15 minutes or less for a full 500 km. Like the Early70's Gas conversion Diesel engines, long-range travel was a worry to the driver thinking about the next fill-up. ( Then answer became clear to owners . " look for Truck Stops " ) . I believe most folks ( myself include ) will continue to purchase Hybrids and Plug-in Gas/Electric Hybrids until more STANDARD charging stations are available. ( Level II & Level III quick-charging ports to include all US, Japanese, Swedish, German, English & Korean Auto Manufacture's . ) The FEAR of running out of "JUICE" or waiting for long charging times during a long road trip will diminish most ELECTRIC vehicles sales during the next 5 plus years. I believe most manufactures missed the mark completely by not offering a Small, mid-size or a full size ALL electric truck for the suburb and country dwellers that use trucks for local transportation and hauling. Owning a home level II charger would eliminate any need of stopping at the local GAS STATION.

I think not, not with electricity from coal power stations pumping poison into the atmosphere. 60 spaces? in cities around the globe but none in South Africa because no electricity, said coal above for power stations shipped to China on some crooked deal. No matter if they look at me and do not see a sale , they have had the time to talk to me, tell me about the vehicles show me what they are all about. I went to go and see the polestar at good wood festival of speed UK . What i experianced , I clearly was not a future customer for you and was not worth the time to have a look in your stand. Thanks for making my future selection of an EV smaller ! Good luck with selling your vehicle , I'm sure only the very wealthy people will have a chance to buy your vehicle!

I have only bought Volvo Vehicles and my next will most likely be a Tesla, only because of timing. But I may just save up and use my current car a bit longer, to get a PoleStar. This car is honestly in my opinion the SEXIEST car out there. I like sports car, muscle cars, but I like the look of Tesla and Volvo/Polestar more than the others total. I would rather drive this than a Bugatti in terms of looks. Looks like a bright future for Polestar and I think when everything goes electric Tesla having a headstart will be on top, but Geely will be right behind with the other Chinese brands going full force.

Hybrid cars are unnecessarily complicated and still use gas. Pure EV's are more simple and the future of transportation. Any car maker that is throwing resources at developing hybrids, isn't going to be around too much longer.
Phone-as-Key will not be functional and the standard key or activity key are the solutions.

polestar2.com Belgium and Netherlands are one of the first countries where the car becomes available, together with China, the United States, Canada, Germany, Norway, Sweden and the United Kingdom. Other countries will get the car at a later date.

I agree with you that Polestar2 is a sharp-looking car. I hope that Polestar comes out with a lifted wagon like the Volvo Cross Country. My dream would be a PHEV Cross Country wagon that goes 50-100 miles on electric-only, as I'm not quite ready for an all-electric car yet, since I do a lot of driving to areas far from cities and do a lot of cross-country driving for thousands of miles (and I don't want to detour and have to plan for charging stations when travelling).

All very flash. Annoyingly flash. But you don't "protect the planet" by making electric cars, especially luxury saloons. . All cars are users of materials and energy in their construction, and users of energy in their use, which even if it's entirely renewable, in turn relies on materials and energy in the construction of power source. This car is conventionally built of mild steel with some aluminium, and the bodywork will deteriorate over a relatively short time as all cars do. So efficiency isn't just related to energy but to longevity. A car manufacturer should be able to guarantee the body work and structure for 25 years of normal use. In addition, cars need space and city congestion will not be solved by electric cars. Cars are still the diversion of massive amounts of financial resources to personal mobility, which would be much better spent on health, public space, and ecological regeneration. The best electric car cannot compete with public transport in efficiency and minimal disruption to the planet. This is a car that a tiny, tiny fraction of the population of the planet could afford to drive or run, indeed a very small proportion of the population of even a rich country. In the long run such a machine is irrelevant to our future.

Finally all-electric from Volvo group. The all-electric XC40 will debut later this year, with the XC90 and XC60 to follow. I've sat in a Model X, and the seats were atrocious. Deal killer! Vastly inferior even to my 2006 XC90 seats, which are superb. Volvo designs it's seats with the advice of orthopedic surgeons, and it shows. And the specs are fantastic on the Polestar 2; 310 mile range on the WLTP standard, 150 KW charging capability. The range should be similar with the XCs, and with Electrify America putting up ultra-fast 150 KW chargers at breathe taking speed on the highways, 400 sites by the end of the year with more to come, Tesla has lost most of it's super-charging advantage.

So I like the Polestar 2, but the car is very comparable to the Tesla Model 3 but the price is higher. The Tesla has the charging network that the polestar 2 doesn't, so how would I justify paying almost $20,000 more?

Much has been learnt from Tesla's example. Perhaps in addition to the driver's seat being the start button a security code could be added to be accessed from the centre console to prevent theft. Yes I did take note of the fact the car needs to recognise that your phone needs to also be present. My suggestion is in the advent of someone stealing either the phone or a bag containing the phone being accidentally left in the car, the thief will be dead out of luck without the dedicated access code. Tesla instigated just such a feature because of such circumstances; something much appreciated by its customers.
I still don't understand the need for a grill on these non-Tesla SUVs. Decent looking car but Tesla did all this 8 years ago. What has Volvo been doing for 8 years? Lower range, slower, no charging network, I'm guessing slower battery charging. The Tesla battery design has beaten this pouch cell design hands down already. I believe the BMWi3 has the same pouch cell - meh. Volvos have always been good but never sexy and never a leader.

Can’t be that special, still has old fashioned exterior side view mirrors. Those mirrors should be replaced by far more aerodynamic tiny cameras, linked to the info screen. Bulky external mirrors are beyond obsolete.
the side mirror is a huge design flaw, do these guys really think BMW or Mercedes is stupid. a hit on the mirror will mean the whole unit is damaged. looks good, but not practical.

It's great to see a more serious attempt at challenging Tesla. The specs are good, the design fresh and alternative to what Tesla offers. Not a sight of a supercomputer with a promise of autonomy but the adaptive long lights are a good idea. Elon has made some waves. The more EVs, the better for all of us.

Can I also open the car with a normal touchless key? Honest question! I never have my mobile phone's bluetooth "on", I always have it off, due to too many former security leaks and battery drain and radiation. I would HATE having to pull out my smartphone and activate bluetooth each time I want to open the car. No way. If this is the only way to enter the car, it is a show stopper for me, no matter how great the car were otherwise! Today I have a modern car with a normal remote key that resides permanently in my trousers' right 5th pocket, and there it stays and does not disturb me at all. That is perfectly fine.
