or excuse me by the end of the week we're going to be tracking a cold front that will bring us increasing chances for rain now highlighting that weekend forecast still could have a few isolated showers both saturday and sunday but of course that's day six and seven on the seven day so we're only putting a 20 chance as of right now because some models have us a little bit rainier this weekend some actually have us warmer and drier so you'll definitely need to check back in by that we'll highlight your seven-day forecast to explain why it's going to be a little bit on the warmer side over the next several days that's coming up here in just a few minutes leslie thank you so much mike well the u.s set a new daily record for the number of cova 19 vaccines given according to health officials more than 4 million people got the vaccine on saturday the country now gives out an average of 3 million vaccines every day nearly a third of all americans have at least one dose of the vaccine that's information according to the cdc well locally faith leaders are working to make sure that everyone has access to the vaccine tennessee health leaders have said that people of color are scared of getting the kova 19 vaccine but faith leaders say the real issue is access for the communities where they live well this week in a group of faith leaders city leaders and volunteers hosted a clinic in east knoxville to change that people could walk up drive up or catch a free ride to the clinic church leaders worked with local pharmacies to get the vaccine ut nursing students helped administer the shots and 880 people got their vaccine but for one minister he says the clinic is more about building trust within the community people look at their pastors look at their churches their church families as ways of supporting the community so once those the churches say yes we'll do it that flows down through the communities well leaders say it is also important for people who look like those in the communities to get out and talk about getting the vaccine another vaccine clinic will be held next month so everyone vaccinated this weekend can then get their second dose happening today the knox county health department will move to an online appointment system to schedule kova 19 vaccinations cole sullivan breaks down what we need to know ahead of the move and how you can sign up good morning we don't yet know how many appointments will be available the health department says it will update its website later today with more information it cleared the final names off its wait list last week now it's going to a more traditional sign up similar to the types we've seen from other providers like walmart kroger and the hospital systems you go online and you click on it and you look and it brings up possible appointments and you read you sign it from one of those appointments it's pretty that simple you look at your calendar you look at what's available and you sign up for one of those time slots dr buchanan says each time slot will have a limited number of people who can sign up she says this new system will make it easier for the public and for the health department especially now that everyone is eligible for vaccine you can also look for appointments using the onlinevaccinefinder.org tool or book an appointment by calling the health department back to you cole thank you every senior center in knox county will reopen today all six centers will operate during normal hours but with a limited capacity the county says centers will still offer virtual programs for those who don't want to come in east tennessee state university health is hosting two vaccine clinics this week they will be on tuesday and thursday health care workers will administer the johnson and johnson vaccine you will need to schedule an appointment the clinics are open to anyone 18 and older the sweet water hospital association will hold a drive through kova 19 vaccination clinic on saturday the clinic will be on morganton road near the greenback community center it's from 1 until 4 in the afternoon the clinic will give out the johnson johnson vaccine you do not need an appointment well an effort to make the bible tennessee's official state book is moving through the legislature a similar bill was rejected years ago but the representative supporting it is trying again jackie delpaler explains why some say the measure is unconstitutional tennessee state legislators trying to make the bible tennessee's official state book it's been a book that's been very important to me my whole life representative jerry sexton sponsored the resolution behind this something he's been trying to accomplish for years this bill does not make anyone buy the bible read the bible go to sunday school get baptized or anything it doesn't do any of that it just recognizes the bible and the history and the economics of what it's meant to us but first amendment expert ken paulson says this resolution violates what america stands for it's not fair to say this is my faith i'm in a position of power and i'm going to promote my faith it's not only unconstitutional it's un-american paulson says it's unconstitutional for the government to endorse or favor one belief above others and says it could open the state up to some costly lawsuits so what we have here is a bill that a single state senator can brag about that encroaches on the religious faith of tennesseans and will cost the state money to defend governor bill haslam vetoed a similar bill in 2016 saying he had constitutional concerns and that it trivializes the bible i reached out to representative sexton asking why he continues to push this despite failed attempts in the past i also asked if he thinks this blurs the line between church and state my questions were not answered at least at least one person is dead and eight others injured after a multi-vehicle wreck in middle tennessee police say it happened yesterday afternoon in franklin the injured people were taken to three different hospitals police have not released their conditions at this time well non-profit nashville is stepping in to help families clean up after last week's flooding hundreds of hands-on national volunteers canvas neighborhoods across the city this weekend to see what work is needed to be done some work will be as easy as moving fallen trees but the organization will also help some families start over refrigerator stove i mean what you can think of you know normal home and everything is gone hands on nashville has several more weekends scheduled to help flood victims recover you can volunteer to help or donate to recovery funds on their website well more businesses on 2nd avenue in nashville are reopening after the christmas day bombing 10 of the stores and restaurants that had to close are ready for people to return a little more than three months ago a bomb in an rv rocked that area and damaged dozens of buildings the street remains closed but people can still walk to the shops and the restaurants i'd say the word is second avenue's open come see us we were officially ready to open january 7th and the bomb went off on christmas day well if you see smoke in oak ridge today here is why the department of energy says it's planning controlled burns they'll be on the oak ridge reservation near wisconsin avenue and the north boundary greenway says the burns are part of the twra and oak ridge national laboratory's efforts to encourage the growth of native plants and reduce the risk of wildfires knoxville firefighters and tennessee forestry officials say a four acre brush fire is now under control officials say the fire was on gap road in northwest knoxville these are photos from the scene fire officials say the fire was accidental rural metro has a brand new fire station in corinton crews officially moved into the new house last week it's around the corner from the previous you think you know about the popular hiking site think again a little known secret tunnel under the site is getting new attention it was a mule trail built in the 1930s by the civilian conservation corps now hikers going to the trail are excited to explore it i didn't know there's a secret tunnel so i feel awesome i know there's a secret tunnel i did not know today the tunnel doesn't lead anywhere but it does offer some really pretty views west town mall spring fling carnival happened this past weekend this is a look at that event lots of people having fun the mall hosts the carnival you are watching fox 43 news this morning coming up after shuttering its doors a year ago a knoxville church reopened over the weekend what that meant to the community and bringing people together how a new fishing event aims to build relationships in a community all right 13 minutes after seven o'clock good morning happy monday everybody sure hope you had a great weekend it was a nice weekend for sure wasn't so nice i mean it was the weekend then we had sunny and dry weather all weekend long making for some perfect days to get out and enjoy a little bit on the cool side on saturday but we warmed nicely yesterday all right that trend continues for the next three days we'll be in the mid 70's today tomorrow pushing close to 80 on wednesday it will be sunny and it will be dry pocket of cool air continues to reside around the appalachian region with some warmer air to our west that warmer air to our west and southwest will be heading our way thanks to this ridge of high pressure that's starting to shift its way off to the south and east that will put us on the western side of high pressure high pressure you get clockwise rotation so as you get on the western side you get a southerly flow and with that warmer air more humid air down to our south we'll start to head our way so it is going to be warmer and more humid we'll talk about this low pressure system and what it means to our forecast coming through on thursday in just a moment highs around the region if you have travel plans we're going to be in the 70s we're going to do it again tomorrow and how about again on into our wednesday so really just looking at some gorgeous weather the wind will pick up on into our wednesday but more so on thursday as our cold front heads our way that cold front will bring us scattered showers maybe a few rumbles of thunder thursday no severe weather threat for us here locally associated with that and that's 60 is probably going to get cranked up we'll see how it all plays out here but again it's going to be a cold front that's going to be sliding its way across the state through the day on thursday so i think wednesday we're dry thursday we get wet and then as we wrap up this week we may have a few scattered rain showers heading our way now the bulk of the rain is going to be to our west and southwest over into mississippi alabama southern middle and west tennessee for us it's going to be kind of a 50 50. we'll kind of bisect it and the southern half of east tennessee will get more rain again we're going to be watching the threat for a few scattered or isolated showers friday saturday and sunday you'll need to check back in to see how the models are all playing out but all in all it looks like there is a chance for a few scattered rain showers of course as we highlight the weekend forecast we'll continue to see some nice conditions by the way if you have ball practices or games tonight it's going to be nice for sure temperatures will be warm we're going to be in the 70s with some lighter wind all right quarter after 7 now let's take a look at those tdot smartway cameras as we check traffic here at this hour volume of traffic picking up a little bit as it typically does here at a quarter after seven but all in all no issues on the roads so far and that's it 48 paper mold we're doing a-okay traffic is light travel safely leslie mike thank you happening today everyone 16 and older will be eligible for a coven 19 vaccine in kentucky kentucky excuse me governor andy beshear hopes expanding eligibility will help fill more appointments today the end of the day nothing matters as much as trying to be a good person and helping one's own community tennessee highway patrol says two people were hurt after a crash on i-75 south in anderson the help of new devices a look inside the house donated for a veteran and his family you're watching fox 43 news this morning [Music] welcome back an army veteran his family got the chance to move into a new smart home on thursday thanks to the donation from a charity group that helps those who've served our country tim blotz takes us inside the house it kind of seems unreal for former army specialist john mullen and his family the path from afghanistan to real life is a journey that walks on legs forged from steel and now just a few short steps to their new home forged from hearts i think i don't maybe even fully comprehend yet how how much of a difference it's going to make and i think i'll realize that over time an ied in an afghan village robbed john of his legs but not his drive and it's why the tunnel of towers foundation built this new home in lake elmo specifically to meet his physical needs every room is wheelchair accessible he can cook and a stove sitting down and there are smart technologies throughout the home but the fact that they're they're taking it to the next level and and wanting to make sure that it's not just about accessibility but it's about having features that also will allow for easier i guess living john first heard about tunnel to towers when he was in recovery at walter reed he eventually applied to the program and he's not the only one moving into a new home this year across the country this foundation is helping police officers firefighters veterans move into 120 new homes and in honor of the sacrifices made since september 11th in 2001 the foundation presented mullen with a piece of steel from the world trade center towers in honor and gratitude for your service and sacrifice it's about paying back and paying forward this is quite amazing to see the amount of effort it takes to put something like this together [Applause] it was the best heartfelt stories right there 7 24 right now i mean does this not look real this is
