Prayer is Serious Business
chapter 5 verse 16 to 18 james chapter 5 verse 16 to 18 the bible says confess your trespass one to another and pray for one another that you may be healed some say prayer has effect pray that you may be healed prayer is not uh an adventure of just to make yourself feel good prayer is an adventure that leaves a tangible effect for one another that you may be healed the effective fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much elijah was a man with a nature like us and he prayed endlessly that it would not rain and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months because he what because he prayed and he prayed again and the heaven gave rain and the art produced is fruit used is fruit automatically this scripture makes us know that the instrument of prayer is so powerful the instruments of prayer has capacity to affect the heaven and the earth isn't it he prayed and there was no rain and he prayed again and the heaven gave rain and the heart produced his fruit so when prayer is properly offered there will be an effect in the evidence and ultimately on the earth are we together are we here so when we say something is a business a business is something that a person is principally or seriously concerned about something that you are principally or seriously concerned about so when we say prayer is pretty serious business we are encouraging us tonight to be seriously and principally concerned with prayer because prayer is so much powerful and ingrained for the manifestation of god's kingdom that we must we must give a principle place to eat in our activities there is power in strategy there is power in thinking through but there is more much more power in the prayer of a righteous man hallelujah hallelujah when you are serious about something it means you are showing it's something that's characterized by deep thoughts so prayer is something that must be done with deep thoughts are we together and with serious concern and why must we do it with deep thoughts and serious concern because it affects the heavens and impacts the earth glory to god if you really have an instrument that you know at one time can move both the heaven and the earth the question i want to ask you tonight is what will you do with that instrument first peter chapter four verse seven first peter chapter four verse seven but the end of all things is at hand therefore be what serious and worthful in your prayers tell your neighbour it's time to be strategic with prayers the end of all things like time therefore be serious there are too many of us that are carrying a mighty weapon in our hands but we are carrying it with without any without understanding the essence of it so a prosecutor has to tell us when you are praying you must be serious and you must be watchful why must you be serious and watchful because it will touch the heavens and turn the earth glory to god so the bible jesus is teaching us about prayer again in the book of luke chapter 18 verse 1 to 8 luke chapter 18 verse 1-8 he said men always ought to pray and not to faith jesus said i should tell you that prayer is not something you do occasionally prayer is not something you do casually pray is something you do always did you know what i said prayer is what we do always and we must do it seriously and we must do it what fully glory to god he said a man ought to always pray another failure and he gave us a story of a woman that went to an unjust church and there was george george would always tell the woman to come back tomorrow ju to give him to give her the due judgment but the woman never got tired the woman kept coming back until the unjust judge was forced to do what the woman wanted which means prayer can make things that seem not to be apparent to happen to always happen eventually things that do not look like they are in the atmosphere can happen when there is persistence in prayer prayer can make the atmosphere change and can make a season that looks totally unwilling become so cooperative for what god wants to do glory to god i thought you would say amen it's a powerful instrument in ii chronicles chapter 7 i read from verse 12 to 17 solomon god was speaking to him about the temple that he had dedicated which was principally ii chronicles chapter 7 from verse 12 which was principally a house of prayer the bible said the lord appeared to solomon by night and said i have had your prayer i have chosen this place for myself as a house of sacrifice continue when i shot up heaven and there is no rain or command the locust to devote the land and send pestilence among the people if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and watch and pray and seek my face don't just wish about peace pray about them hallelujah the things you are trusting god to do this year don't just wish about them don't just strategize about them pray about them the bible says if my people who are caught by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways then i will hear from heaven and i will forgive their sin and heal their land glory to god continue now my eyes will open my ears will be attentive to the prayer made in this place for i have chosen and sandify this house that my name shall be there forever my eyes and my heart will be there perpetually verse 17 as for you if you walk before me as your father david walk and do according to all that commanded you if you keep my statutes and my judgment okay so in verse 16 god already told him my eyes and my ears will be opened to that place if you got just one chapter behind in second chronicles chapter 6 from verse 18 to 42 i will just rush through solomon gave many instances where prayer needed to be prayed he began to speak to god when he had built the temple he said but with god indeed dwell on earth behold the heaven and the earth cannot contain you how much more how much less system which are built verse 19 yet regard the prayer of your servant solomon began to say god the truth of the mother is what abuse can't contain you but there is the gap what i'm going to do to make up for this gap is what i call prayer so i began to pray and he prayed like at about one two three almost one two three four five six seven eight nine ten he raised about ten intercessions in that place and i want you to look at the intersection in verse 19 to 21 he prayed about the temple itself he said lord regard the prayer of your servant and his suffocation oh lord listen to my cry and the prayer with your servant is praying before you that your eyes be opened towards this temple the first prayer he prayed was the prayer of certification of that house itself god hear me let your eyes be opened to this house and when you get to verse 22 to 23 he said if people make oats and sin against one another he said if anyone sins against his neighbor and is forced to take a note and comes and takes a note before the altar in this temple then hear from heaven so he said prayer as a way of of use prayer to speak to bring god's attention upon that house then he told god that when people begin to make oats and stand before him that he should hear from heaven whatever they do in that house are we together church are we together in verse 24 it gave another instance where prayer is needed he said or if your people are defeated before an enemy one of the times you need to pray is when you are going through seasons of defeat and every christian at one point or the other there are seasons in your life where you things that you used to and you are just beating you back if your people are defeated before the enemy if they've sinned against you because many times every most of our defeats are attached to our sins people don't just fall people don't just lose many times we lose because we are not sensitive to certain things god has been pointing to us if they sin against you and return and confess your name and pray and make supplication before you in this temple he said then hear from heaven so prayer he spoke about prayer in dedicating the temple he spoke about prayer in conflict resolutions of quotes before people he spoke about prayer when people are going through a sense of defeat in verse 26 and 27 is if the heavens are shot up and there's no rain because they have sinned against you when they pray towards this place it began to show us please that prayer can change prayer can change even at an atmospheric condition if the heavens are short for no reason he said if people come and pray so prayer can affect when you are going through a season of defeat defeat prayer can affect when the heavens just seems to be what to be shot are we still here in verse 27 to 29 he said then here in heaven and forgive the sins of your people that you may teach them to walk in a good way and send rain on your land which are given to your inheritance verse 28 when there is farming in the land pestilence blight or mute the locals or glass supper when the enemies beseech them in the land of their cities whatever plague or whatever sickness there is whatever prayer whatever supplication is made so prayer is made during the seasons of pestilence like during the seasons of continuously mutating kovid 19. somebody told me this morning they said there is another variant cue or something like that so i said okay when israel is defeated when heavens are shot when there is famine and pestilence farming and pestilence automatically means there is economic depression when you interview the president of the country after several years and the only answer i can give to you is go back to the land you need to pray because there means there's no plan did you hear what i just said he said need to pray if these are the people thinking about our future and the future of our children how we are laughing and they are planning to perpetuate another type of theirs glory to god okay so if i'm the only one that is still taking that one as a body in verse 29 to 32 he said whatever prayer supplication is made by anyone or by other people when each one knows his own body that is personal supplication one of the reasons why we pray is we pray concerning persons we pray when heavens are shocked we pray when we are defeated but sometimes we we pray to consanities that are personal to us they are personal griefs and burdens give me that verse 29 again let me see what is there he said when each one knows his own body and his own grief and spread his hand towards this temple no matter how corporate our life is there is something about your life that is only you that understand the meaning of that thing there's a part of your journey there's a part of our journey that is corporate but does not stop our individuality in one of the expressions of paul paul said you are all together the body of christ but yet you are members individually god does not just say i have answered your church so i've forgotten you god will answer your church then it will cascade down to you to your personal body your personal griefs are we together prayer is a serious business prayer can i'm showing you the scope of it in fact by the time you get to verse 32 and verse 33 of this same place he said moreover concerning a foreigner even if a foreigner somebody that is outside of the covenant becomes towards this place was out of your faith and come towards this place and stretch his hand and pray he said god here and i was asking how does god hear a foreigner until i remembered in acts chapter 10 verse 1 to 4 that an angel of the lord appeared to cornelius who was a foreigner and his bible says he was a man that served god and gave much arms and prayed he was a foreigner but he prayed and god responded because god saw a heart that was planting towards him and god had to show him i said go call for a man called simon he's in the house of simon the turner he will show you what you must do god responded to for cornelius hands and prayer you send them how many of you have a sentimentality that is easy to be sent but when god sends you god always sends you something that is bigger than you whenever god sent them and when they pray because immediately you receive a sense of being sent one of the priests that will consequently follow it is a deep sense of prayer because prayer will bring you dependence because what god sends you to do is going to be gathering you god taught israel when you are entering the promised land i'm sending you against ten bigger and mighty and stronger nations than you god never told them that the nations were meeting are lower than them god made them to know from the beginning that those nations were mightier speaking in the flesh there is no strength in the natural but we are sent towards these things that we don't have natural strength for so the gap what makes up for our lack of strength to fight what is bigger than us is the place of prayer am i making sense and finally in that same chapter he gave us another reason why people pray that's what 10 reasons i've given you if you are followed in verse 36 to 40 he spoke about when your p when they sin against you for there is no one who does not sin one of the powers of prayer prayer helps us to be able to transact in humility when we are when we are wrong are you following me that's why not all prayers are aligned they are prayers of lord have mercy on me when they sit against you and there is no one who does not say and you become angry with them and deliver them to the enemy and take them captive to a land far or near yet when they come put themselves in the land where they are captive and repent and make supplication to you in the land of their captives we have seen we have done wrong we have committed wickedness and when they return to you with all their art and without their soul someone said without their hearts without their soul now whatsoever is going to engage all your heart and all your soul is a serious business one of the reasons why we don't have so much impact and prayer is because it doesn't it doesn't engulf everything we do sometimes it's just something we just do sometimes people are just praying but in their heart they know other things they want to do when you want to really get the god to move you need to return to god with all your heart there are moments you need to set aside before god because except god speaks nothing else is valid nothing else doesn't matter what anybody say it doesn't matter the promise anybody gave you say when they return with all the other on their soul from the land of the captain when they have been captive and pray towards their land which will give their fathers and the city which you have chosen towards the temple which are built for your name hear from heaven that statement is consistent somebody say hear from heaven may your cry resound in heaven in the name of jesus christ prayer he prayed towards the dedication of the temple prayed concerning sin and oath prayed concerning israel's defeat prayed concerning when heavens are short prayed when there is fame and peace when there is famine and pestilence prayer concerning personal supplications he talked about the prayer of a foreigner he spoke about when the people go out to battle and he spoke about when the people repent and find redirection in god glory to god none of these issues are tribal issues look at the last one they said they said when they already carried into captivity you don't get when you're already carried into captivity and the enemy has already gripped you you don't you're not playing game you need help isn't it have you ever entered a face in your life where you really feel trapped it doesn't matter what you know there are situations that happen to you and they defeat knowledge what knowledge can help joseph in potiphar's wife's room he was already played they caught him in a hard place scripture and his original skills to get out of there are situations in your life that your orientation skills can't deliver you from are you following me the situations in your life that even your your lord and wept in anguish verse 11 she made a vow verse 12 it happened as she continued praying before the lord that a lie washed her mouth hannah spoke in her heart only our lips move there was no vocalization because many a times the reason why most of our prayers are not deep is because we just want men to know we are praying so there's little preparation in the heart but there's more preparation in the mouth so when i say let's pray anybody and nothing is speaking in their heart hannah i would rather now i will show you another posture prayer where your voice needs to speak out but i would rather have a heart that is talking to god without the leaves moving than having noise that is you know have a voice that is making noise when my heart is not there because that one will make me win with men but i will have no weight before god that's a posture of prayer that we learned from hannah someone that they didn't understand that they felt she was drunk and you know even eli accused of being drunk but she said i'm not drunk i'm just pouring out my soul to god and eli said where the lord hands her your cry and you know god will hear us what is in the heart answer and give people that you think don't have challenges have deep ones that more than the ones that you have the people that are outside are sharing the same body with the person in the palace and esther said but if we keep waiting something will go wrong he said so tell the jews to fast i think we fast for three days and i'll go to the king anything that will make you break your food and it's not sickness it must be something serious isn't it talk to me this is where you are looking i know you like food now so why are you making it look like i like food apparently partner particularly that is i don't eat much some of you don't eat much but you eat five five minutes you know those type of eating salad i just take one small thing but if you check between money and evening now you have eaten five times what is the conclusion then i will pray with the spirit i will pray with what talk to me i will pray with what one of the challenges we have in pentecostal churches is that most believers today cannot with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to god and the peace of god we shall personally sun we guard your heart and mind through christ jesus it should be done with persistence it should be
