leftist tiktoks for neurodivergent leftists
i used to be afraid to be the fattest girl at the pool but i finally figured out that they gone get whatever body they get i strut like everyone is watching listen to that applause i was almost on board until you went all calmy with it you were not in fact on board if you agree with the analysis of a situation but are not willing to implement the actual solution then you're probably just fine with things staying exactly as they are which makes you my back hurts today i don't feel like sugar coating anything it makes you lazy and a coward hello my name is imani barbaran aka crutches and spice and let's talk about disability visibility and why disability pride month is so important to disabled people july marks disability pride month and believe it or not the visibility of disabled people in society is fairly new historically things like ugly laws kept disabled people out of the public eye from the 1860s until 1974 it wasn't legal in all 50 states for disabled people to be seen in public disabled people were deemed unsightly and unworthy of being around everybody else which seems unfair because there's a lot of non-disabled people i really don't want to see it all but i digress throughout that time disabled people were hidden at home sold to circuses or placed in institutions but around the 1960s and the 1970s the disability resident was gaining steam with the capital crawl in the five of four sit-ins the ada was passed in 1990 but that legacy of hiding disabled people still exists disabled people are still underrepresented in all aspects of society and that's exactly why we need to celebrate disability pride because it celebrates us living on our terms the same people that taught malcolm x to hate his queerness did you know that did you know that malcolm x has it and dr king is homophobic wait let's run that so in the video she talks about how malcolm x is queer and it got me thinking to how people will compare malcolm x and dr king when dr king is literally homophobic it's apples and oranges during the civil rights movement bay art wrestling and dr king was hand-in-hand they organized boycotts protest started organizations bayard even did the march on washington oh god and because of that success bayard said let's include lgbtq in the fight for equality dr king cut off all communication and never did anything with the man again and when asked dr king said they had a difference of opinion you cannot be pro-black and homophobic or transphobic or any of that [ __ ] because that means that you feel like only some people deserve equality [ __ ] outta here i really wish that moralistic people understood that most of their favorite characters are on the autism spectrum this is because people on television shows characters on television shows are larger than life they have to be consistently exaggerated in their personality traits and their actions and their mannerisms because they are a character they are someone that you are actively watching that's not neurotypical not in the slightest i have always related to television show characters and people always told me that i am like a television show character they have always been telling me that like my life is like a movie my life is like a television show like you view things like a show yeah because i'm autistic it just sucks when all of your holistic friends are telling you stuff that's like i love this character so much you're like but i'm like that character and you treat me like [ __ ] sunshine play just a little new there's an art to life's distraction somehow escaped the burning weight the art of scraping through some like to imagine the darkerness of someone else i guess any thrill will do when things be easier if there was a right way honey there is no right way some people claim that there's everyone's nobody's fault the u.s education system isn't broken it's working exactly how it's designed to let me elaborate on this point and explain what i mean it's not an accident that a majority of the schools in the us do not teach certain things it's not an accident that students do not understand why they have to learn the pythagorean theorem it's not an accident that most people graduate high school or complete their ged without learning about the truly horrific things that columbus did not only does it make it easier for our oppressors to do the oppressing there was a study that just came out that found that there is a link between literacy rates in this country and incarceration rates when you're thinking about the state of this country and the state of the world i want you guys to remember that nothing is by accident it is designed by someone to be the way that it is how do you avoid lecturing your kids that's a great question now i'm not gonna pretend like i never lecture my kids but i really try to avoid it and if i notice that i'm doing it i just stop i could be mid-sentence and i just stop you can do that now i think it's important when you're trying to avoid lecturing to identify the kinds of things that send you into lecturing one of those things for me is when i'm trying to communicate about a problem or issue and i'm not getting the response that i expect or want so i just keep going in hopes that it'll change things but it doesn't work that way and it's not fair like we can't expect a positive response from someone who is being corrected or criticized or whatever in a moment attention so instead when i'm trying to communicate i pay attention to their body language and how they are responding not how i'd like them to which means that sometimes i'm going to say what i need to say keep it short and sweet but the issues stay in unresolved until later but that's okay because unless it's an emergency it can wait and i'd rather have a productive conversation later when it comes to conversations about serious things i try to keep them short and specific again avoiding lecturing like i regularly have conversations with my kids about internet safety which is such a broad topic that i could go on for an hour but if i did how much would they really listen to instead i target subtopics that we can have a conversation about they can ask questions and then we can move on with our day they retain a lot more i repeat myself less and our communication is better i think it's important to remember when we're trying to strengthen communication and avoid lecturing that if we want to be heard we also have to listen hey y'all as a cyclist here are the top three things that i cannot stand when i am riding around town in traffic number one when your car is loud i don't know if you think it sounds good when your car is loud but to everyone else it just sounds like it might be broken and if it's loud while you're accelerating to pass me on my bike without giving me enough space it also sounds like it could kill me please go see a mechanic alright number two is cops remember kids some of those who work forces are the same who burn crosses and the ones who aren't burning crosses themselves have still decided that cross burning isn't a deal breaker for them in a workplace environment although workplace is a bit of a misnomer here because cops are not workers they are the state-sanctioned militarized enforcers for the bourgeoisie they do not provide labor they enforce social constructs which keep those of us who do provide labor in line number three and if you've stuck around this long congratulations this is the controversial one number three is the rules of the road the fact is in a car centered society the rules of the road are designed for cars not for bikes and there are a lot of rules which are necessary to keep people safe when everyone has a limited field of visibility because they're surrounded by two tons of metal and glass but just don't make sense when you are out in the open air with a full field of visibility riding a bike which weighs 20 pounds personally i will always respect the rules of the road when cars are involved because if i don't the cars might kill me but otherwise hypothetically i might bend them just a little bit so that they make more sense for someone on a bite and that is it for today y'all let me know if you want more of these insider cycling secrets in the comments below lies that no matter what you do there is always going to be something because it isn't just assault and essay and unalignings it's just general daily life when you are trans cis people will do everything but blame their transphobia for the reason that trans people aren't alive themselves or don't want to be here they will blame the gender affirming care that is saving our lives famous for not disclosing details about our transness and dot dot dot i used to be su clado i can't say the word and i think when you used to be suklado i still do have the thought find a way or motive to want to be here quote unquote what are my motives for living is literally to spite people isn't that depressing when people make a problem out of everything you do and hate you for no reason especially if you experience this from when you're a child it's not far off that they want to unalight themselves so once you do your part in creating a better world for trans people to live in then you can point blame at other things my question is this did it not strike a single adult that perhaps taking children under the age of 10 which is showcased in this video to a gay bar no it didn't because most of us aren't homophobic here's a better question has it never struck a single adult to maybe not have their child play football because it might cause them to have a degenerative brain disease it never struck a single adult to not bring their child hunting because maybe they'll get it into their head that they have the right to kill anything that they want oh and did it never strike a single parent to not bring their child to church at a very young age where they are conditioned to believe that there is an all-powerful invisible man in the sky that is watching their every move knows everything that they've ever done good or bad and if they misbehave that all powerful man will send them to a burning fiery pit underground where they will be tortured and suffer for all eternity you think maybe that is not a great thing to teach children also empirically speaking uh way worse things have happened to children at church than have happened to them at drag shows just google uh catholic church children um and you might you're gonna be very uh shocked at what you see i mean as someone who cares about kids clearly as much as you do um i think you'll be pretty upset by this have you ever been to a drag show it's literally just adults in costumes singing songs which is like an activity that children do on their own do you have any idea how many tea parties my sister made me go to where she put dresses on me and put makeup on me and made me sing disney songs with her and not once did my mom run screaming into the room being like stop grooming him this whole issue that you guys are creating is completely manufactured do you not see that do you not understand that these are just hateful homophobic talking points that were handed down to you from on high from your [ __ ] right wing media ecosystem and the only reason that they [ __ ] fill your head with this [ __ ] is because they don't actually want you caring and being angry at the people who are actually destroying this country do not [ __ ] you don't [ __ ] get that fossil fuel industry can just choke hold our entire political system and drive us all towards a future where life on earth is completely unsustainable and you don't give a [ __ ] about that but like [ __ ] some queer people want to throw a fun party for kids and you guys are just like i'm so mad this kind of rhetoric you're using is dangerous and people in the real world will get hurt because of it and if you know anybody in your life who talks like this tell them to shut the [ __ ] up we know what the problems are and how to do it effectively we do not know how to do it effectively i understand why you would think that we do because we genuinely have a lot of people who come to leftist spaces with valuable experience in lots of different areas like direct action mutual aid providing legal support construction etc but taken individually those are all just puzzle pieces and when we are talking about putting them together to form some sort of large-scale revolutionary collective action none of us know precisely how to do that in large part because it is a very tough needle to thread and the main thing that it takes is building relationships and organizing which importantly for this conversation is something that has to be done primarily in real life i agree with a lot of the sentiment in your video but i think your core diagnosis misses the mark the main problem with these social media-based calls to action is not that the people on the apps are just not communicating or coordinating well enough it's that they're taking place on the apps the amount of commitment needed for someone to hit like on a video is negligible the amount of commitment needed to get people in your real life social circles workplaces neighborhoods etc to say not just that they passively agree with you which is basically what a like is but also that when the time comes they will actually show up and provide material support to people striking or stand in a line in front of cops who are trying to evict people that takes an entirely different level of commitment and what people need if they are going to commit to take those kind of actions in real life is assurance that their community members will be there alongside them and that is something that they cannot get from the number of likes on a video i am not trying to say that social media is entirely worthless i do think it can be used as a tool to raise awareness and support irl activism but the fact is most people that i know in mutual aid direct action groups that i take part in here in seattle are not on leftist social media they don't come out because someone on an app told them to they come out because they have relationships and communities that make them feel empowered and encouraged to do so i strongly agree that we need to stop just diagnosing problems we need to start doing something about them but a very big part of that is moving off of the apps and into real life local teen and star athlete jasmine williams was injured yesterday playing ice hockey a new exotic sport that's sweeping the nation american children have no business playing such a violent tribal sport it is my goal to stop this terror from spreading to more american neighborhoods says jasmine's concerned mother new nigeria's governor has vowed to take action saying i will work to eradicate this dangerous sport that is destroying the traditional american values set forth by the ancestors leading doctors say ice hockey might not be a sport at all and is in fact a gang recruitment tool they say to look out for these warning signs in your child right some more metal bands you should avoid if you're just getting into the scene pantera from having guitars with the confederate flag on it to doing nazi salutes at gigs absolute [ __ ] terrible people it's a shame that they're still so big in the scene avoid lost profits technically not metal mulrock but i can't not mention them the lead singer ian watkins was put in prison for arring a two-year-old a two-year-old the guy is a [ __ ] monster i'm glad he's rotting behind bars right now the band shortly broke up after this just just avoid falling in reverse the elitist will say oh but this is a metal the newest stuff is annoyingly so because the vocalist is an absolute transphobic piece of [ __ ] ronnie radke has been raging his way through tick tock arguing with pretty much any trans person he can find a lot of the times they're kids my guy's just an absolute knob head just just know if you respect the trans community in any way shape or form don't listen as are they dying the vocalist was arrested for trying to hire a hitman to assassinate his wife the guy is still currently a part of the band i believe he's out of prison now and has just gotten remarried but still if you probably want to avoid i stir i won't lie i didn't know a lot about this band but they were suggested a lot in the last one i believe the guitarist was a part of the capital storming on january 6th you know when all the trump supporters decided to storm the capital for a lot of you including myself there's definitely enough to not want to listen to them mega death i won't lie i didn't even know about this one until researching for the video but my god dave mustain is incredibly anti-semitic saying things like jews aren't metal also against gay marriage obviously quite openly racist avoid let people know who else to avoid in the comments pay attention to the way that people describe strangers when telling you stories people will tell you quite a bit about themselves based on the unnecessary adjectives they choose to include and not include story to story for example people who are not hateful love to be like okay i was at the grocery store behind this bigger lady and this black couple and they'll whisper it like it's this terrible thing to say and then they're like and then i got to the counter and the clerk was a gay guy but i don't care about anything like that they love to reassure you i don't care about anything like that okay but you do because if it was a white straight presenting person you would have just said that guy or that lady or that couple but you had to put their descriptor first because in your brain you see their descriptor before you see their humanity but when it's a white stripe presenting person you see their humanity before their descriptor pay attention to the way that people describe strangers hey you know that not all non-binary people are five foot tall 90 pound baby-faced white people with pixie cuts right if you're a leftist stitch this video with a terrible thing that capitalism has done slavery but i'm gonna make it personal so my last name is starks and i have that because the man that owned my family his last name was stark so you may be wondering where did that last s come from the last s functions as an apostrophe s in the possessive basically it means belonging to stark this is a daily reminder to me and my family of the legacy of us being formerly private property and i should really get that changed in my field um as an environmentalist i am often the only person of color in that space if i'm lucky you want a few black people but if not always the only black woman in that space oh goodbye so right so the only black person so if it's just me the youngest person the only black person is not accessible and they're doing it on purpose it should not have been only me you
