THIS WAS A CLOSE CALL! - Van Life Peru
we've been dragging you guys and our two kitties around this desert here in peru for hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of miles and we thought it was about time to give you a proper tour of the desert wait till you guys see this when we get together gonna be good vibe keeps on getting better we can't watch the sunrise been a long night but i'm still fighting i'm not staying down low i'm pushing past the edge i see the light ahead it's all the dark side but the sun is rising i'm not giving up hope it's a good day good day coming it's a good day it's a good day sweet like honey it's a good day coming all right we have made it to our camp spot here at this little oasis in the desert look at those sand dunes we get to climb probably either this afternoon or tomorrow we'll see snow's back still bothering a little bit and mine's not perfect so but let's go first and check out this little town first thing i'm gonna tell you about this place is it is a tourist mess it is loaded with tourists it is traffic it seems to be a fairly small spot we kind of drove around it a little bit the area not a lot of room to maneuver but there sure is a lot of people here so our camp spots kind of in the back corner of this place nestled along the dunes but you know it's not an oasis without palm trees and a little water and this thing has a little lake right here in the middle of it and you can see it almost looks like disney with the boardwalk around all that and it looks like they have little paddle boats out there on the lake so people can tool around and there is plenty of space but there are this place is loaded with restaurants souvenir shops this is definitely geared 100 for tourism so i'm around some new friends that i just made but they rent snowboards here or sandboards i should say so you can rent these to go down excuse me where is this when is tardis so on this end down here by the lake they have all sorts of different snack shops chips sodas all that type of stuff your typical little tien does and then up the way i already showed you they have some more restaurants but a small little place a lot of families come out here from ikah eek is right around the corner i think it's about 10 minutes away the city which is a big city ika is also a department or state as we would call in the united states and so it's fairly large state and yeah that's where we are so we're here on a sunday and there are a lot of people here so we're gonna chill by the pool kurt may have tried to walk up one of these sand dunes i would like to but i think i'm gonna try resting my back maybe tomorrow there won't be quite so many people this is definitely a hot spot no pun intended hot spot desert i know stupid anyway kurt's gonna take a dip in the pool we just ordered some nachos and we're just gonna relax explore tomorrow it's cold it is like really really cold have you guys been in oh it's freezing i would not know we were in the desert that my friends is some super cold water it didn't take long to cool off morning everyone time to go on a hike we're gonna go check out these deserts now i've got my ticket to wakachina and obviously we're here in the desert we have been for a while but it just so happens we're in this little desert oasis snow's back's tweaked a little bit so she won't be joining on me on this hike but we are gonna walk up and through these dunes and then later we have another surprise but i promised you we were going to show you the desert and now i'm going to try to deliver on that promise so over here to my right is the oasis and the little lake in the middle with the palm trees but that peak up there if you can see those people on the top that's where i'm headed my first thought as i walk around here is this is sugar sand so walking in it definitely is a challenge your foot's moving all around sure you guys have walked on the beach before sugar sand not like by the water and also feel like every time you take a step get a little more sand in your shoes so anyway i'm not complaining about a thing looks like over here to the left they have a ton of buggies which i'm going to be doing at the old special way i should mention i approach the wakachina water source here or the water tower if you will that it's about 62 degrees fahrenheit the sun did just come out so it was in the 40s last night and into this morning until the fog burned off it's noon so let you know when i get to the top how long it takes i'm not necessarily in a hurry because i want to take in this beautiful desert and show you but nonetheless see what time it is when we make it up to the top i will tell you climbing in this stuff is a lot different than walking on a flat surface while you're climbing it's like two steps forward one step back so but anyway a good burn and something i definitely needed with some good exercise and some good views of the nature one of the coolest things to me about this big giant sand dunes is how they correspond is how they have that sort of razor's edge that sharp edge on the top of them and it's kind of what i'm walking up right now it's actually been beat down by all the people who've walked up here but nonetheless it's cool so here we go sometimes it's hard to keep your balance you slide down one way or the other from up here the wind is definitely stronger and you can see the ripples in the sand as these little granulars are blowing across the desert floor we're almost to the top you can look back and see the little oasis and a lot of other people have already made it up there based on other youtubers i was under the impression that this is a vast desert out in the middle of nowhere which makes a lot of sense because we've driven through that in a lot of peru but now that i'm here i can see all these little sprawling communities humble homey humble homes if you will leading into eca and eca is a pretty big city and actually the capital of the department or state of ika and so we're only about five or ten minutes out of that huge city but if you look away you can definitely see the vastness of the desert and all the dunes and it does look really cool and i actually you guys know me construction nerd appreciate this view of the dwellings and now that we've had an opportunity to stay in a hostel i sort of have a different of some of these and although some of them may look a bit dilapidated or like shambles on the outside some of them are actually quite nice inside in any event i'm gonna sit down and enjoy this little place like everyone else you can see all the people like ants coming up from out there on the top of the screen we're actually in the middle of the screen that's kind of where i came up and you can see the sort of water tower water tank if you will and the buggies we passed on the way up but the van is actually in that tent city hostel over there you can see the tent and you can see the back of the van and a few of the solar panels but you can see what a small little desert oasis this place really is all right so that was about a 20 minute walk up here not actually too bad at all it did take a lot of the wind out of me but i need the exercise it's really cool up here sort of surreal i love the sand dunes i love kind of the way they've adapted to the desert with their dwellings and things like that also there's a lot of travelers here as i said earlier this is a pretty tourist area touristy area so it's always cool to see fellow travelers but it's time to head back down catch up with snow see how she's doing and maybe grab some lunch look so in the city of ika right in the middle of the city there they have one giant sand dude almost looks like a pyramid there they must have clearly built up around it so i'm sure at one point in time this was just a little desert oasis but it's since growing up to become a big city all right i think we're at the maximum peak here so it's all downhill from here and i think that should be fairly easy here we go we're going down the sand it's so easy going down but i will tell you the shoes feels like you're kind of gliding but the shoes fill up with sand almost instantly all trails should be like this you guys know i'm a natural downhiller 20 minutes up five minutes down the sand is surreal all right after seeing all those buggies racing around this desert from up on the dune i don't see any way we can leave this place without doing a buggy ride and so snow's back as i told you is hurting so i went ahead and reserved a private tour for two and made sure that they could go as slow as we need to so a little bit of a surprise for snow we'll see how she responds we get back to the van and also we need to make lunch all right i made a reservation 4 30 for five o'clock for a private thing okay so i couldn't do the afternoon hike with curt because my back still tweaked and getting me pretty good if i stand up too much it does feel a little bit better than it did last night so that's good news but the even better news is kurt surprised me and splurged on a dune buggy ride a private one so we can go slower if i need to for my back so i'm gonna make it to the top of one of these dunes even with the back so that's pretty cool and it's almost time for sunset so it's a good time to go right they told us to meet us down here at the office where we got the tickets but i had us a sneaking suspicion that up where we saw the buggies earlier today on my hike was where we might have to walk so anyway our guides out front she just said follow me so here we go the adventure begins sun sets on the buggies in the desert all right the dunes definitely look different as the sun goes down the shade side obviously is darker and the sun side lights it lights it up so just makes for a lot more contrast you actually see the dunes a lot better so hopefully we'll have a good sunset tonight this could get interesting we can hear the engines firing up it's like we're at the old tractor pool look at these things guys these buggies look like a blast now i'm pretty sure we got much smaller ones and some of these big ones a whole lot of people but we're also going to take it nice and easy all right my adrenaline's starting to get me fired up sergiya our hostess here is the one with the garnet shirt sweatshirt and the brown vest so she's gonna take us up to our driver here all right so you can see this orange wagon casper pulling up i imagine we'll be in something like that we don't know a lot of big rigs here starting to get a little excited snow yeah yeah ready to sit down though i haven't quite recovered from the walk up here it was a run oh that wasn't too bad other than my back the knee did fine i'll be all right all right so these rigs are different sizes that one right there holds about nine this one over here looks like it holds about 12. and this one right here maybe about eight or six so we don't we're still waiting on ours all right we just overheard our host i think there is a communication error going on with our car and our driver we are truly in for a bit of suspense quanto tiempo momento okay all right we've been summonsed in looks like there is a rig ready and it looks like it might be the casper oh we saw this thing just roll by naranja okay it is it is the casper here is the rig let's look at this thing here we go but the sun is good it's a good day foreign it's a good it's a good it's a good day till we get together gonna be good vibes we can do whatever gonna be good times we can't watch this it's a good day sweet like honey yeah yeah yeah gotta coming in keep a good day it's a good day it's a good day coming all right guys this is a bit insane but we have to hurry up snap some pictures because people are waiting to get in this all right we came out here and got some sunset snaps on this dune what a beautiful place gorgeous vista snow's back has had enough and quite honestly it was a pretty exhilarating ride so i'm happy we're going to ask him if we can cruise back nice and easy peasy all right guys here we go to look at the sunset i thought we were already staring at the beautiful sunset turns out oscar's got more in store for us we're gonna try to take it real easy look at this steep straight down wow maybe we're not taking it so easy after all all right guys time to go see the sunset all right oh standing like a mountain know i am got no limits i got no fears only got my blood my sweat and my tears down i am oh all right oscar got us to the perfect spot now it's a race against time whether kurt can get the drone in the air fast enough look at that miles and miles of desert i never knew peru had so much desert but it is vast and the ride was really fun a bit crazy our driver's crazy but kurt was having a blast while i was holding on for dear life and i will see how the ride back is because i think it'll be getting a little bit dark i'm sure these things have lights on them right all right tour's almost over there's our loco driver oscar he did a really good job guys and i've never been known for my cautious sight you should know that i'm well aware i don't want anything left untried think any of this over so let us just do my love and see where this road will take us now time to head back i gotta put this pocket down so i can hold on all right guys i can tell you it's about 45 degrees here my nose is funny so i'm sorry probably information you don't need to know but it's definitely chilly here in the disney the desert night we got a big moon popping full sunsets brought some pretty colors to this desert we're headed back all good things come to an end sooner or later all right guys one little last year on before we head in thank you all right there's no way you can go on a ride like that and not smile big snow gets out of the generally the casper casper the friendly ghost capitan oscar thank you thank you brother wow there goes casper what a good ride snow it was incredible it was really fun we are never doing it again i got my dune buggy fix out in the desert never again but it was fun it was it was amazing now let's get down and you know what they say never say never good morning everyone we arrived at wacoccino a couple days ago and a really nice camp spot here to be honest with you my first impression was number one this place was a lot closer to a city than i thought i thought it was in kind of the middle of the desert and then additionally this place is really super touristy and so kind of caught me off guard but as we've stayed here this place has turned in to be an amazing place we're staying here at inco camp hostel and you can see the rooms or the habitations are tense so it's kind of like you're glamping of course we stayed here in the van they have a nice kitchen with a barbecue grill and oven and stove we just got out of the showers super hot really good pressure one of the best showers we've had in peru and then the cats have really enjoyed it here which is also kind of new for peru but they've been able to come up here and walk on these terraces and every time vanna sees sand she's always has a little learning process but they also had a nice pool area and so that's pretty and they have a little restaurant here and it's just a relaxing place there's been a lot of tourists coming through here so this is a very well traveled place and we've got to meet some nice people from all over the world france germany england really israel all over which is always nice the buggy rides in the desert was off the charts cool and once you get out there all of a sudden you realize how open the desert is that we're really in the oasis was cool the place just has a nice feel so all of my first impressions that may have been negative were completely overcome i definitely recommend you come to this place for all that it has to offer if you like this video be sure to subscribe to our channel and hit that
