Welcome to the Northwest of Russia a district of pristine Northern  nature and the richest historical   and orthodox legacy Vologda is one  of the most ancient cities of Russia the city is the same age as Moscow in 16th century tsar Ivan the Terrible  even decided to place the capital   here but because of one brick he  changed his mind and it never happened but even though it's not the capital this  city is called the soul of the Russian North many people ask me why I keep going to the   north my mom also asked me this  and I decided to bring her here she made all the way from Perm to Vologda and   I hope that I will make her  fall in love with the North my mom is discussing some field works like   potatoes and vegetables with our  relatives in the Tatar language her brother is taking her advice about potatoes potatoes and garden are the most important things Vologda Kremlin can wait but let me tell you some history about the Vologda   Kremlin and how a brick prevented Vologda  from becoming the capital of ancient Rus under the rule of Ivan the Terrible  the city became an important transit   point for the trade with both Europe and Siberia the city grew rich and the tsar decided  that it should become the capital he began to build a huge fortress which   was supposed to be two times  larger than the Moscow Kremlin at the same time the construction  of St Sophia Cathedral began there is a legend that when the tsar came to  the construction site for another inspection   a brick or a piece of plaster fell on his  head the tsar got so angry and left Vologda the construction stopped and the  city never became the capital eventually the construction was completed only  20 years later under the rule of another tsar now we're going to the top of  Vologda cathedral Bell Tower it's 24 floors and 298 steps please support my mom  by liking this video are you ready yes I am ready after lots of steps and walking  we have a break on the Vologda   city beach because my mom wanted to go to the beach and let me introduce you to the sponsor of  this video my old friends from Lingo Pie Lingo Pie is an innovative language learning  platform that allows you to learn a new language   by watching movies and series directly  from the culture of the target language and my very first English teacher is my  mom even though now she forgot English but   she taught me English with video cassettes  when I watched simple dialogues in English she watched and she wrote and we translate words so I guess it's my mom who instilled curiosity  in me for far lands and foreign languages video cassettes were cool but Lingo Pie  offers international content in nine languages no way tell me more while you watch a show you see scripts  of the videos you can click on the words   that you don't understand and get  their instant translation you can   choose speed for the videos and there  is also a feature of dual subtitles wow really exactly and to start your language journey  follow the link in the description   and get 7 days free trial and  55% discount for the annual plan and for mama it will be free I decided that it's time to introduce my mom to  the northern cuisine obviously we're in a train here we don't know we start with a famous Russian soup named "Shchi" but it's not a usual Shchi  it's (gives Russian name) it has small dried fish here which  is not typical for Shchi this fish is (gives Russian name) I like it I like salty stuff next one from white I love anything from mushrooms hunting Northern food is mostly berries  mushroom of course meat and fish this one is (gives Russian name) it's summer so for drinks  we have Kvass and this one is (gives Russian name) is a city in Kvass from "Fatherfrost" from Russian Santa  Claus because he lives in VVeliky Ustyug but what what Vologda city is mostly known  for in all Russia are two things first is   Vologda butter and second they say that  locals from Vologda have a very distinct   and funny accent and dialect that when  they speak they always say lots of oh oh   oh so let's try to find the butter and  see if the locals do have this dialect food from mama for dinner Buckwheat it's  translated as Buckwheat but I'm not sure   that foreigners really know this and we put a  Vologda butter in the porridge in Russian we   have a saying it means you cannot spoil porridge  with butter let's try the Vologda butter it smells amazing conclusion but I really love this black bread black with  the butter and also my favorite dessert from   childhood is bread and then sour cream or  butter and then honey or gam and for me   it's my favorite dessert you don't need  any dessert cake anything it's the best and on my Instagram today I published a story   with my mom and you guys asked  questions to this amazing woman for one day I enrolled as a military translator  because I thought that you're going to be so   cool and then I realized that if you're a  military translator you cannot leave Russia   I thought that if you're a translator then you travel for maybe maybe next time you  will see our vlog from Mexico   but for this time we will keep  exploring the Vologda region for now I think we're going to  eat and relax before tomorrow tasty Vologda food was good but now it's time  for spiritual food as Vologda is a region rich   with churches and monasteries thousands of  pilgrims come here every year to meet the God our stop is Kirillo belozersky  monastery the largest one in Europe it's located in the town Killov on  the shore of the lake Siverskaya we arrived in the village Killov and we saw a sign   that it is selected as one of the  most beautiful villages of Russia the monastery is located very close to the  national park named the Russian North and   we decided to head to the mountain  Maura and explore its surroundings during this night we've got more  questions from you guys so we will keep answering some of my videos this woman  was a cameraman camerawoman on the top of the mountain Maura we found  a huge rock and the legend says that once   the Reverend Kirill Belozerskiy stood here and by  some miracle his footprint was left on this rock they say that if you step on it  barefoot and make a wish it will   definitely come true it's shameful to  admit but when I was a child I thought   so unfair why wasn't I born in a rich family  and I wished for different expensive things now I know how rich I've always been to have  a family where I feel safe supported inspired I love being around my family  and traveling with them what else could I wish for?
