Sri Lanka's MOST BEAUTIFUL train route
Good morning guys, and welcome back to another video as you're probably seeing here. Yes, I’m in transit right now. I’ve got the baggage with me that is literally everything in my life that I own pretty much. And I’m actually here with the British lad. Hello, hello.
Right in front of me cruising down the stairs, Doing a solid subodesina [Good morning] to our friends over here, the tuk-tuk drivers because we're actually gonna be heading down to Ella today via train. So another train video because we couldn't get both of them subodesina [Good morning] my friend. How much to go to Nanu Oya? 700 rupees that is a great honest price. Let’s go. Alright, and here we go. It's water- Oh our friend over here. That's what they all said. He's got a fresh thing of gin. That's what they all said. I’m just kidding guys. Basically-
basically they use old bottles like alcohol bottles as water bottles so it's funny though. Sometimes you'll see them taking a drink of it and you're like whoa. I’m from the US and you my friend and you, from here? Yeah. Very nice place, great country, nice people. Nice to meet you machan [Bro]. Stootee [Thank you].
Alright machan [Bro], Full speed ahead as they say. So we've got about an 18 minute ride from the city center here. We're leaving the coffee center. You might have seen that in another restaurant and we're just taking a quick tuk-tuk ride down. Since it's just Harry and I, we're
actually able to get all of our baggage in here along with ourselves so that's good news. Let's head over there. Our man's trying to cut us off here, coming through my friend. Guys we are very lucky today because our last hours here in Nuwara Eliya is sunny. So if you saw the last couple videos, we experienced a little bit of rain out here when it's supposed to be the sunny season so actually now that I said that the clouds just came out. I jinxed it. As you can see guys, we got fresh veggies. Subodesina [Good morning] my friend.
Nice people, we finally got a wave back guys. Now I wish we would have stopped to get some vegetables from them but we're in a rush to catch the train. Train apparently departs at 12:39 but the reality is yesterday when we passed this train station, it was probably like almost 2 p.m. So we'll see what time it actually arrives at but better to be there a little earlier than a little late, and miss the most beautiful or what they say to be the most beautiful and scenic train ride in the world. Hello my friend. Alright, let's get the the bread out of here, yeah. Thank you. Alright, got those bags on the front.
Guys we have made it down here. So guys, we just got dropped off down here. So 700 to go from the city center that cost roughly four dollars, gave him a little tip because he's gave us a good price here. And right down here, you got shops, couple gift shops here, restaurants and I believe this is what leads us no entry into work area but this has gotta be the railroad, yeah. This is the train station my friend? I think so I guess- I guess we'll find out. We’ve got it right here Sri Lanka, Nanu
Oya railway station. So if you're thinking about coming to Nuwara Eliya, just know you gotta get off at Nanu Oya and then you gotta take a little train ride up so I believe this is our way this way. Full speed ahead bro, we're heading to Ella, see you there bro. Whoa, whoa. That could have been dangerous here. That’s one way to get to Ella ride your
suitcase there bro. They actually have suit- they have scooter suitcases. Alright, we're coming up onto the train station here, seems like we got a lot of people catching today's train. We're gonna have to ask the ticket office because we have a different train than trains ticket than we got for the ride from Kandy down to this area, Nuwara Eliya. So we'll ask the train office, see which cabin we're riding on today. Hopefully, we get some good seats though
guys I have no idea. Got some good puppies walking around here. Subodesina [Good morning] on my friends, komada? [How are you?] Hondai [Good]. Perfect. Alright, we've got sire is already here at the box office. We gotta check to
see what type of tickets we've got going on here. We've got a ticket here. Subodesina machan [Good morning bro]. Are these reserved seats? Good seat, first class b compartment okay. Okay and they're- they're reserved for us? Yes, this is the seat number 13 and number 14, okay. Stootee machan [Thank you bro]. Thank you. Oh wow guys the people at the train station here were so kind. Anyways though, we're climbing up yeah staircase guys we've made it to the drawbridge and it looks like we have an incoming train here sire. Process your own peril raise it.
I am the king of the castle. Welcome. Alright, now we gotta know which side we so guys it's- it's good news, we know that we're gonna be riding first class. I guess we've got a first class ticket, we got lucky. Looks like it's maybe the way on this side, I’m not sure
which way the train's coming from so one of these directions but over here, we've got a lot of train tracks. So it's actually a much larger station than I thought since we didn't get off here in a few days ago this video we never really gotta explore this train station but cruising over here, let's ask. What do you think this side. Excuse me sir, do you know if this was the one to Ella?
Oh okay, thank you so much. Alright, to make sense this is the way to Ella here. We've got a lot more people lined up along this way as you can see all the way down there. Alright, guys the train arrives about 25 minutes late and let's see here.
Oh that's loud. First class is the front. Yeah, yeah. Alright, we gotta go up to the front but I don't know where Ali is.
I don't know how long it stays. He said it was 20 to 30 minutes away so I don't know if it is him. I might have to get on bro. I don't know how long it waits. We thought Ali was getting off at this train stop but I don't see him. So we're just gonna have to get on our car so here we go. We're cruising over this way. It is a- I thought it was here but I guess not.
Alright, we gotta get up to the b car. I think we're in 1b. As you can see, it's a pretty popular train. It is crowded here. Wow, much more crowded than yesterday, full speed ahead my
friends. Alright, and we've got- Oh a lot more cars to go. Here we go. Oh it's very busy guys as you can see, there's no room for activities here. Alright, excuse me. Oh sorry, and we're going a little bit further here. We got second class cabin here. So it looks like first class is all the way up front. Do we make it out in time? We got one b I think we got. What do you
think one of these? I think b is ours. Oh we got I think Ali is calling me. He must be here. Guys, it's a race to get on the train. Ali bro, yo we couldn't find you. We're up. We're- we're about to get on the 1b track. We literally, we went looking for you but it
got too close to- to the time we had to board so come to one, come to one. Come to 1 bro. Don’t lose anything here. We got Ali machan happen to be on the same train. Yo, what's up bro? Are you coming on first class with us? You gotta come bro. You can share a seat with us bro. Hello hey, how are you guys? Hello. Oh sorry. I’m sorry.
Let’s go. Alright, we have made it down just in time. Subodesina machan [Good morning bro]. Yeah perfect. Alright, you're good bro, three of us in one seat.
We’ll get, we'll go we'll share three of us yeah, three of us our friend lost his ticket. No, no, no, no, you tell the guard. How about I’ll give you five thousand right? No, no, no, no, no. Yeah. You tell the guard, you tell guard. We’re trying to get Ali on. I don't know what's gonna happen here bro. Guys, already I can tell from riding the train yesterday it is so much less crowded on the first class train. Alright, subodesina [Good morning]. Alright, let's see here, we've got the 14 and 13. This is our spot right here.
Yeah, Ali is trying to get on. He doesn't have his ticket. We'll see if he makes it on. Oh sorry. Yeah same here. And you say, it's okay. Kind of but not really. Yeah. We don't really understand. As long as the door closes up. Yeah. Come here, put yourself bro. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Oh yeah, just in time. I actually not gonna kick us out like at the next station. We made it. Yeah exactly. I haven't even booked a ticket or a reservation. Well, that's what life's about spontaneity. Put the stuff away, make yourselves at home. Alright, good news is king Ali made it on. This is
great news. Wow, this is nice. There we go. Guys we are departing here. Komada machan? [How are you bro?] See you later machan [Bro].
The nice part guys is there's no competition for window seats over here. There’s three openings on this side and this side if you saw the last video, I never even made it actually all the way to the window. So that's pretty amazing. Guys I finally after this is my third train actually third train in Sri Lanka, and I finally have been able to sit down because when I rode the one from Colombo to Kandy, the problem was is they didn't have these doors open on third- oh first class and then when we were in third class, there was literally like a fight to get the front spot for literally the entire like I don't even know how long that was like four hours. So it's a whole other experience here we've got the best of both worlds, we can go into the air conditioning and we can see all the way down here. So now this is what I call a picturesque train.
As you can see guys, this place is looking a little bit familiar because actually yesterday when we took the train a little bit too far which is a few videos ago, we got off a little bit further into the tea plantations here but honestly seeing it right now, it's so much more lit up. It’s much better when it's sunny out guys when it was raining yesterday was not as much of a vibe. We've got the British lad living on the ice. I was shocked.
Above 10 people like that squeeze it over just to get that shot but that's about it. You got the British lad living the dream. Hello sire. I need a chicken thigh. Our friends helped us out when we got off the wrong track after they helped us get a rickshaw. So we'll see if we can see that real
quick. Hello hey what's up, hello. We had some pretty strong coffees this morning. Guys we're approaching the station that we got off at yesterday. As you can see, this one looks a little bit different than Nuwara Eliya. You see our friends out there. Excuse me.
See if they remember you bro. Machan [Bro] They- they helped us get a tuk-tuk. Everything good? Nice to see you. You saw him. It was a hole in there? Just the one guy with the suit. Raise the drawbridge. Oh here we go guys. We are on what's said to be the world's best train.
A few places where the train doors are allowed to be open on a moving vehicle like this. So as I say in all my videos, it's very dangerous, be very careful doing this. I do not recommend it but do it at your own risk be very careful. There's a lot of bumps on this train and so people have gotten injured and died from this. So
I just need to let you guys know that because it's moving but anyways back to the train here, we're cruising through the foothills. We got a tight little cave as you can see, we're coming along right there. Holy crap, it gets scary guys. Look at how tight it gets. Oh that tweaks you out, yeah when you're that close to the rocks and your feet are just like this guys. Oh yeah, that's what we call a
certified thrill ride. We can see the tea lanes in the distance more and more of them. I’m probably going to repeat myself many times on this train ride though guys but that's what happens. Subodesina [Good morning]. Got him there guys, we got a tight little fit right there. Yeah.
A new seat, so I guess everything's all set. Everything is hondai [Good] my friend. Wow, we're really getting into the mountains over here. You can see, we've got the tourists putting their cameras out over here, and we're getting a nice shot of everyone. You know it's gonna be a good view right here, watch the phones pop out and you can see here in just a moment everyone's looking into these incredible views. Guys I can only imagine how amazing it would be right
now to get the drone out if only that was possible. I was told out in this area there's a lot of waterfall guys and we're actually starting to see some as you can see right out there in the distance. Oh we got the bushes in the way. I think we'll have an opening in just a second so right here if you can look right out there, there are waterfalls in the distance. I’m very excited because in Ella, it is known for being able to go into those mountains check them out and wow. Wow, wow, wow. Sri Lanka you keep impressing me more and more. Stootee [Thank you].
Sire, raise the drawbridge immediately. We have a large train passing through and we've got the drop down there. Now this one I call a thumbnail right there guys. Ali would be very scared right now. That’s a good thing to mention guys, in the first class cabin which is connected to the second class, you actually have a lavatory. I’m not sure how clean it is, seems pretty clean smells but the nice part is yeah if you have the option to have a lavatory, that is great. What do you think sire? How do you like first
class? This is so much better. I like third class because you get the experience but now I’m glad I’ve done that and now I can have a little bit of a chill, get some space, space for activities and yeah really, really cool vibe in here. There we go. There we go and Ali's getting over his fears right now. Oh a lot of fears. This is scary. Yeah, yeah exactly. Yeah he's like, he's holding on yet. Here’s a quick look for you what second class looks like.
So pretty much like the main difference is you have the windows open in second class here. So it's a bit more airflow but it's still nowhere near as packed as a third class. You have plenty of space to walk all the way up and down here, and it's comfortable space but first class takes number one now that the doors are open for sure. We got a quick little lesson on how to get the iconic train photo here. So we're in the cabin next door and as you can see here, we've got the hair man hanging out the window right there bro and- oh don't lose your head though. Oh he did not expect this so we're hanging out here, second class makes the windows open up. That is how you get the iconic photo
here. Whoa [ __ ] no another photo shoot done bro. Thank you very much. Please. Oh then I don't wanna buy one if I can't put it on video, I don't wanna buy it. Oh thank you boss. I got my- You have a coca-cola? Do you want bro? Oh yeah, whoa he did not expect this in 2022.
Stootee machan [Thank you bro]. Guys it's been a pretty peaceful ride. Honestly, like if you can get a first place ticket and you have the time to book it in advance, definitely get one because it's just like- like I’ve been able to still switch off and have this face to like chill here for quite a bit of the train ride just from Nuwara. Hello, we got the machan’s [Bro] hopping on. Yeah just pretty much like the two hour train ride, we've had so much access to the window which is great. So it's so much better than third class. Obviously third class is a fun experience too. If you ride the train multiple times, I recommend you try
multiple of them out. We've got the machan [Bro] coming up this way. All aboard, all aboard. Alright, looks like that's how they signal. He just did the green flag must be someone down there. Oh yeah, the other captain's down
there hopping back on the train and it looks like- Oh one of the guys is hanging on el Capitan down there's living on the edge and he's on. Subodesina [Good morning], komada? [How are you?] I wonder if people actually understand the words that I’m saying in Sinhalese or if they're just they think I’m yelling something in some foreign language. I guess we'll never know, comment below. We’ve got these old-school style train stations right here. Look at this. So here's a more official first class tour. We've even got ice age playing, we got el Capitan subodesina [Good morning] my friend. We got the hair man chilling here. He's
got the foot rest out here. We've got a little drink holder, tray table. It's almost like the airplane experience here. How about the comfort, sorry I was just checking the tray table, I apologize I just gotta lock it up here. Oh I’m still trying to lock it. Man, let's check out the comfort of this thing. Oh yeah.
Oh fell asleep there, sorry. We’ve got the headphone jacks volume so you can plug right into ice age live, plenty of bag storage here as you can see. Definitely a much different experience than riding third class, good time here. I was thinking that if the doors would have been closed, it would have been very limiting because when I went from Colombo to Kandy that door right there that we were just at was closed so you couldn't really hang out of the train. So obviously, if you're like trying to film outside, get those iconic photos videos etc, etc then you need to have a door open. So this is the best of both worlds there. Certified
vibe I’d say. Exactly that's- that's a statement of the day right there. You’ve already got sire asleep, world's most beautiful train ride and Harry's passed out again. You gotta catch up on the-- That's what happens guys, I thought there was no days off. I guess things changed today, must be nice. Gonna go see if Ali's got energy. Okay. Ali bro, how you liking the train ride
so far? I’m loving it man. I’m facing my fear. I’m becoming a batman that's beautiful. Yeah we even just saw him hanging out of the- the train car and this man's a little afraid of heights but he's getting over all of his fears. He’s always like for the content. It just opened up again. Yeah, yeah exactly bro. He's scared. We’ve got tight narrow spaces we're going through again. Hello my friend, subodesina [Good morning].
Subodesina [Good morning]. Whoa, I saw that. You see that the guy just flipped me off. I guess he doesn't like when I say subodesina which means good morning in the afternoon. I probably wouldn't either. We’re arriving to the station Idalgashinna. Komada? [How are you?] machan [Bro] Oh it seems like this is a quick stop though the train, came to a complete stop here now. Whoa. Alright, we're back to the good-- Wow, wow, wow, wow, look at this, the plantations and we're going into some serious fog over here.
Alright, we're stopping hop until it's a longer stop here, a lot of people are getting on and off at this stop and then I think we still have maybe another 30, 45 minutes till we get to our finals stop which I guess the final destination is Badulla but we're going to Ella so I’m not sure. We'll probably just get off at one of these you know what shop we're getting off at bro? I think Ella. Is that a stop? I think so. Alright, sweet because just like Nuwara Ella or Eliya that wasn't an actual stop, you get off at one near. Oh we're cruising again. We
got the green flag going up and we're in process, see you later machan [Bro] The one thing I will- I will say is that there's a lot of litter around train tracks. I’ve seen a lot of people just throwing garbage on the ground. So please don't do that just my two cents there but so yeah, now we're cruising through. We've got some guys. Hello machan [Bro], they're playing some cricket right down there, and we're getting that's a nice place to play cricket looking out there into the clouds, and then we've got some more locals here hanging out, and we've got these bros right here that are hanging out super close to the train. Hello machan [Bro]. Guys we're making good progress over to-
Oh look at this guys. We’re making good progress over the Badulla. I’d say we maybe got 34 minutes on the train. It feels a bit longer than two hours, I’ll tell you that. I’m not
complaining though, the ride has been absolutely incredible. Oh look at these mountain towns out here guys absolutely picturesque and gorgeous. Right in here you can probably see that in the distance, it was a bit hazy.
It smells like there's like some sort of fire being burned, just got the smell of like a massive. massive campfire going. Subodesina machan [Good morning bro]. As you guys can see, we're right on the edge there. Oh what a little vibe out here. What do you think?
I think it's b-e-h beautiful guys. That’s a fact. Komada? [How are you?] Haha, good one there bro. This is where the train journey ends. What a great ride, clearing out. I think there's one more stop or two more stops till Badulla but Ella is our destination. Stootee machan [Thank you bro]. You ready go with Ali? Let’s go. We have arrived. This is Ella, the famous Ella one of the places I was most
excited to visit in Sri Lanka. As they say, I need a chicken thigh. So make sure you keep your ticket till the end because that is how you actually get off the train station, and welcome to Ella. Very busy train station for how small it is. Hello machan [Bro]. We haven't figured it out yet, you have a good price? We don't know yet.
Wherever you want. We're still trying to figure it out. Let's see here. You wanna do one night? Might be the move, so today's Tuesday. Yeah we need a couple minutes to figure it out because we're still looking up accommodations. How many people? Three people. Yeah. Hyde dash Ella.
Four minutes from here, you know where it is? It’s one kilometer, one kilometer. I don't think machan [Bro] knows. We can show you on the map. So you see, we're going four minutes over there or it's a 12 minute.
If we follow the directions we have, we can get you there in one kilometer. Yeah yeah, no problem at all. One, tuk-tuk three hundred. One tuk-tuk 300, yeah one kilometer. Oh very good. Sounds like a bargain. You’ll give me one. Oh no, that's okay you know what we'll do? I got a special- special way to toss her in and we can go, sneak that thing right like that and we'll slide her right on in there. So guys, we've got a tuk-tuk over we're
going about four minutes away, one kilometer just right down the hill into Ella and then we're going to check out a hotel that potentially we're gonna stay at. It’s a little bit more of an expensive one higher end hotel. Full speed ahead. He’s been taken down. Heavy boys, we're happy.
We have switched over to the Gravel road it looks like. We could have hopped off the train right here then. Guys it's funny, we probably travel in the most like craziest way. We literally just like hopped on a train here, and we're just
sitting outside of the train station like where are we gonna go and stay at. Like other people I’ve told them that like we'll have no idea where we're staying or where we've been going in the morning and we'll just end up somewhere like how do you do that? But it makes for quite an adventure and then honestly, we're just as surprised as you guys are as you watch this video like what's gonna happen, where we're gonna stay, what we're gonna do, who we're gonna meet, how we're gonna experience it and all that. Speaking of we're gonna arrive here right now. Hello my friend, we are locked in. Is there any way for us to get out? Oh the hair meister just snuck out and- Oh, oh and almost lost the laptop out of the side. There we go. Alright, guys we
just got here from the tuk-tuk. It's been such a fun journey. We cruised all the way from Nuwara Eliya today and that was a beautiful train ride. So now actually we're going to give you a whole separate video for where we're staying. You can get a little sneak preview of here. It's modern. It's beautiful but we'll be here
for the next couple nights so I’m gonna end this video, and then in an upcoming video guys you'll be able to get this full hotel tour of where we're staying at. So as always, thank you so much for watching. Make sure to check out both Ali and Harry's channels. I’ll put the links both below for the two of them, and if you guys can like this video and hit that subscribe button below. I will see you guys in tomorrow's video. [Music]
