hello I'm Ian danta and welcome to my Planet Rocks tonight two of the original members of a band who've recently reformed their classic lineup it's Spike and Nigel from choir boys [Music] Ian dancer here with Spike and Nigel from the choir Boys you've picked out coming never Reigns by the dogs to more um you know that's funny because the dogs always used to play the Greyhound because I think Bush found them from a multi and uh me too I've never ever got on so how did you entitle hook up further down the line then Spike my father passed away everybody came to me dad's funeral you know all the band came and uh Tyler became because we were going to do a show for him and uh we've done a short new customer from and Tyler ended up you know when he got a funeral and everything everybody leaves dogma and uh Taylor he ended up staying at my mom's house and I thought oh you know a big couple of weeks or whatever maybe I think he ended up staying there for a year and a half are you gonna remember that my mom and dad came on tour with us every everywhere my dad knew all of guns and roses and everybody you know and he loved being on tour and it wasn't on my father I mean he finally come out when we were in that Bedford van and traveling around the motorway and he'd bring sandwiches and beat it so he was there from the very start as was in Iran and it was Tyler ended up he's quite um I went off back of the tour I can't buy anybody a year later and he's still living with me wrong and you know what he's been such beautiful guitar and then he and then I played him I don't love you anymore yeah yeah well let's hear right I don't love you anymore we'll play a bit of Spike and Tyler's hot knives as well we'll play a song from them as well on this so that people can hear what it was like when when when YouTube worked together play a bit a belief that'll be all right wouldn't it to play a bit of that yeah oh yeah yeah yeah yeah [Music] yeah [Music] to you chosen by Spike and Nigel from choir Boys on my Planet Rocks tonight we'll have more from The Lads shortly all right this is something else if I like sound album so they could love to love [Applause] [Music] [Applause] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] [Applause] [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] has been truly times and I can't go back [Music] to the left of you Misty green [Applause] to be something to be I'm going to love you [Music] [Applause] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] no no no foreign [Music] [Music] thank you [Music] the challenge before [Music] mistake to be something foreign [Music] [Applause] [Music] foreign [Music] [Applause] foreign [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] we're gonna be confused up here is your Licensing Laws Ian dancer here with Spike and Nigel from the choir boys new Christmas single coming out in time for the festive season Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year big gig uh to reintroduce this classic lineup of the band at the O2 Islington academy uh in this mid-December and then what guys what about 2023 well we're gonna we're gonna finish off this the little things of Ryan recording his new album yeah the album should be out for April May in time for the festivals yes yes that's what we're thinking Perfecto well it'd be nice to see you uh yeah out and about uh you know maybe up the mountain at still house which I know you played uh a couple of times I love that place it's just it's it's it's one of the well I think we were the first ones to play the action you were yes 2010 that's right you were I remember that day because it was trapped us good at Mathis like I said oh my God how is this gonna happen instead of a hill the boundless move it is yeah yeah it is in every vote for those that haven't been I've still got a lot of me boots from them it's not a good Festival yeah exactly right and when it rains there it proper rains as well when it rains yeah that'd be true enough for steel house geez um let's let's get to another song choice this is Tumbling Dice from Exile on Main Street pick by Spiker of the choir Boys on Planet Rock [Music] let's pick another live track because Nigel you you've selected a lot of live tracks and um cheap tricks live at Buddakan he's right up there isn't it yeah yeah so uh it's funny because when I was a kid we went to uh at my cousin's lived in New York and so I went to New York uh New York when I was a kid so it's obviously that hour must have come out of 77 then right I'm thinking because yeah yeah because of 78 I still must have gone there that summer when that wrecker came out so I would have been only like oh I would have been to us 11 or 12. two yeah that would have been uh 77 I would win only 12. you're 77. give my age away anyway so I was 12 years old went to New York see me cousins and that was on the radio all the time in America he was of the radio on the car blasting my uncle his arm and out the window and listen to that song because I remember it specifically because pre me getting into UFO because I was study 12.

and it was that song that was the that was the big hit of that summer and I never forget it being in America driving around in a car with me Uncle listen to that song foreign [Music] where does the other day [Music] went [Applause] [Music] away [Music] [Applause] [Music] foreign [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] away [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] all right now [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] probably one of the best support bands you could wish to get because I saw them twice as a support band once with Motley Crew which is like theater of pain to it and then a few years back they were supporting uh leopard when they were over here playing you know hysteria well the great thing about them is they're not I mean some bands go oh no we're too we're too big we can't do that but that that's a good move on that part to do things like that because they can get a different audience a younger Rod Stewart now in December a lot of big bears who have been as big as them would do stuff like that you know they'd be oh we're too big yeah people's egos sometimes do them in business-wise you know I mean you gotta be like accept where you are in the field of music and just like the bullets we'll go support someone time is catching up with us uh yeah uh Spike noise but I want to wrap things up with you but having chat with you for an hour it's clear how happy you both are uh yeah and well exactly how comfortable you are with the way things are and the way of the world because for for new artists I know it's tough out there you I chat to Young bands you know up and coming bands who haven't had the benefit of you know vinyl sales or CD sales over the years uh and they're trying to find trying to navigate their way through it all what's it like for for you guys uh out there yeah well yeah I mean yes yeah it is I mean it's always tough I mean when's it never wins it ever easy and if you've got like number one and you're selling millions of Records which doesn't happen anymore when's it ever easy it's never easy this is like the worst job you can ever pick really you know everything it's not you can't just go to work at nine o'clock I've got five it's just not like that happens so well Chris Johnson said to me and Guy barely you had the trouble user is you only write number two yeah yeah I think that I think with young bands they have obviously the anxiety but you know what's going to happen we've kind of can see what we've seen what can happen so we can navigate a bit better you know what I mean so I feel sorry for young boys now because it's like we should we had the even though we've got banned from the universe is at least at least we got play we haven't got that chance to tour we too are non-stop yeah yeah but everybody I told this in the average year but in another interview before and um we were lucky we had a friend called Adrian Purser who uh worked at the uh used to work at the Rock sock in one of University so he knew all the university Rock Society people and that's one of the first things we did we were in a van driving out of London going to Leicester or going into Nottingham or going to Sheffield or going to wherever we're in and then that was a lot of the Bands just trading in London we actually got out of London drove around yeah it's a Newcastle perspective the head of the Student Union Nottingham was Andy Kaufman yeah yeah yeah so that it works both ways but people try to get I don't know why that's all stopped you know it should well the other thing is there's a lot of you know a lot of live venues are closed down so uh I mean I I've been surprised they're still hanging in there I was I did not in them the other day to see a friend there was a little venue there comment what was called but there was dad's playing there I went to uh of course there's still a place like Beverly Squires and all the great places but the place the lack of places to play I think could be the problem for younger bands you know what I mean I found out when I was doing my acoustic shows there is a lot of um you know that are still around and if you can get you know there's so many young button you know if one when I was doing the best looking to help we put them on yeah what I mean yeah we know how hard it is a central Tudor we've played with I mean how many birds have you been Malmsteen white lion cherry bombs the babysitters Johnny Thunders I mean I can go overalls you know about I cannot I cannot and wait a minute I cannot imagine a more eclectic mix than the choir boys and envy Malmsteen yeah that was their sounds right magazine and forget when you played with them uh the guy who sang with them [Music] oh yes well when they've done the review they've done a ball huge page picture of me have we got a brilliant review and a little bit above English so how do you think's return yeah yeah and then we didn't put anything ever again that's funny that yeah it goes like that said I was lovely but yeah he was a nice guy yeah it's like you do need some like really great people on your Travelers yeah I mean you always men feel like that you know [Music] foreign well listen gents I wish you every success not just for the the Christmas single that's coming out and for your your show in Islington just before Christmas but also what 2023 and Beyond brings because I think um given the love that Planet Rock listeners have for you know the the classics from a bit of what you fancy and and whatever the new album pal it's great best songs we've done it's it is honestly we're carrying on from what where it's gonna be pure British rappers have you have you have you got a title for it yet this album no yeah we're all arguing about that yeah basically I'll come up with it and I'll tell them yeah and then that the single is for a wonderful cause care after comrade yeah your money is going to a good course every penny is something good for that um so Catholic combat Merry Christmas [Applause] foreign Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from choir boys as chosen by Spike and Nigel from the band on my Planet Rocks all proceeds from that quiet voice track going to care for combat.org that's careforcombat.org my thanks to spike and Nigel for their time
