everyone who chooses to ride alone inevitably accepts a certain level of risk including crashing in the middle of the woods alone first let's go back to the beginning of story [Music] welcome to home for the night my name is Amanda zitto I have been traveling long distance on motorcycles and riding off-road for the last 10 years and the vast majority of the time I ride alone my goal on this trip was to ride section 2 and 3 of the brand new Wyoming bdr bdr stands for Backcountry Discovery route there are non-profit organization that creates mostly off-road routes north to south through States for adventure motorcycle riders the GPS tracks are free so you can go to ridebr.com to learn more about that I was also very very lucky to be borrowing this beautiful 2022 Honda Africa twin Adventure Sport DCT from Honda so my goal was to take it pretty easy foreign [Music] well good morning beautiful people we are in Southern Wyoming in the snowy mountain range today's video is sponsored by Onyx off-road which is a mapping app that I will be using to try to navigate a section or two of the brand new Wyoming bdr I have a prior commitment that means that I have to be in West Yellowstone in two days I thought that I was going to have like four days to get across Wyoming but plans change so word of the wise if you are going to try to come down and ride the Wyoming bdr take care of your entire situation well before you hit Wyoming well the sleeping bag is packed up sleeping pad is packed up but I just [Music] I'm getting an eye migraine I don't think I have to say it but I'm going to anyway if you are experiencing a migraine the smart decision is not to get on your bike the smart decision would have been to stay in Camp lay in my sleeping bag and wait for it to be over that is not what I did I decided to push through I took some medication got rid of the aura that was blocking my vision and kept packing and this would be the Catalyst for a string of events after this that ended up with me on the ground we all have those times when you're weighing the decision to push through versus the decision to play it safe sometimes pushing through is good sometimes it shows you what you're capable of and sometimes playing it safe really is the better option [Music] foreign [Music] I don't think we're going that way well we've already hit snow so I don't know how much we're actually gonna get to do uh not because of mud but because of snow which is not what I expected at the very end of June like literally we're like three days from the first day of July so we're gonna ride the rest of this pass to the snowy mountains and see if our next uh in to the dirt is also blocked by snow we'll find out [Music] as I crested the pass the pressure in my head was getting worse so I stopped to take a break and took a short nap at this pull out next to my bike hoping that it would help my head while it was helpful the migraine was still a dull throb behind my eyes this was my second chance to do the responsible thing and go back down in elevation and find a place to hunker down until the migraine passed I was painfully aware that this would be my only opportunity this year to try a section of the new Wyoming bdr I didn't think I would be able to do the whole thing but I really wanted to write a section of it I let the fear of missing the opportunity overpower the smaller Boys in my head telling me I needed to stop always listen to your body [Music] [Music] [Music] thank you [Music] thank you [Music] come on a lot of things go through your brain when you hit the ground in the middle of nowhere alone into anything broken on my body is the bite going to run again if it's broken how long before I can get help how far before I can get out of here there are a lot of things you can do to prepare for these questions before you take off for the woods alone I carry a robust first aid kit modified with what I might need more than just a couple of Band-Aids and some ibuprofen I also carry a satellite messenger so even if I don't have service I can send my coordinates to friends and family who I know will find me and help me I learned that lesson back in 2018 when I broke my wrist on the Lola mortar way I did not own a satellite messenger at that point but I was very lucky to come across someone else who had one and was able to tell my family where to meet me I also keep my family updated on my location where I'm going and when I hope to get there that way if I go MIA for more than a few hours they know when to start worrying I carry tools for my bike so I can fix simple things and lastly I make sure I download My Maps offline with Onyx Offroad and I plan my route ahead of time so if something happens I know where I am I know where the closest exits are and I know how far to the next town where I may have services will be Onyx Offroad also allows you to share tracks and waypoints with your friends if you planned your whole trip and organized it into a folder like I do you can share this with your loved ones so they know the planned route that you're going to take by selecting the folder and hitting the share button at the bottom when the other user Taps a link it will add the waypoints and tracks to their account other features include 3D mode to get a better idea of the terrain this can also be helpful when you're finding campsites you can tilt the map to get an idea of the slope of the landscape the higher the elevation the colder the campsite will be at night which could be a good or a bad thing depending on the season understanding terrain and weather conditions can make the difference between a fun adventure and hour spent figuring out where you're going going you can also tap the map to see elevation of that point and slide over to the weather information that gives you an idea of what the high and low will be what the win condition will be like as well as information about sunrise and sunset time and a bit of the forecast well first drop of the trip also first time that I've dumped this bike I don't know if I could really call it a dump it was like a I found a rut that I did not see and uh kind of flip-flop back and forth until I hit the ground rather hard thankfully I was only going like 25 30 so hopefully the bike's okay but I yeah that sucked elbow hurts but nothing's broken that's all you can ask for right okay let's get this stuff off the bike and see if I can't pick up 550 pounds new challenge [Music] [Music] [Music] wow dad [Music] oh no [Music] oh I'm sorry oh it only looks like I really only damaged Plastics and the turn signal wow I hit the ground pretty hard [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] foreign [Music] y look some friends have arrived I've got everything back loaded on the bike I think I'm gonna follow these guys for a minute to make sure that the twin is performing properly well I still have company um and then we'll head to Elk Mountain and everything will be fine yeah [Music] how does it feel good I don't want to hold you guys up so so glad you're good yeah well we've been looking for your Channel [Music] sure foreign [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] I have now completed section two of the Wyoming bdr relatively in one piece I think it's kind of funny that I've had this bike for like two months now and this is the first time that I've dropped it I think that's the only section I'm gonna get to do because I need to make miles to Thermopolis tonight and then to West Yellowstone tomorrow so I'll be back for you Wyoming bdr it was also the only dirt that I was going to do because I didn't want to make any of my injuries any worse as the day progressed my neck got sore and sore and my elbow really really did not feel good which makes sense because it was the part of my body that made contact with the ground first [Music] [Applause] [Music] Wind River Canyon is a Wyoming Scenic byway that follows along U.S Highway 20. the oldest layers of rock date back to the Precambrian era over two and a half billion years ago there are multiple campgrounds along the Route but as I discovered almost all of them require reservations May through September so plan accordingly [Music] foreign [Music] opolis is best known for Hot Springs State Park as the name probably suggests this Wyoming State Park features hot water that flows from natural Hot Springs along the river I wasn't feeling quite up to getting in and out of the water after my kerfuffle earlier in the day so I beelined it to a motel for the night to lick my wounds not too shabby for like 84 dollars I feel like I did pretty good and it's gonna let me ice all of my sore spots well good morning beautiful people the update is that the neck is very stiff shoulder is very painful the ankle is better than it was yesterday I rubbed some Badger bomb into the neck muscles and as much as I could of my shoulder and I can move my head now which is was not a part of the equation when I woke up this morning so I'm going to call that an improvement but we do have some place that we gotta be today so whether I want to or not we're going to pack up the bike um I mean I've already taken my sweet time I woke up at like 6 a.m and now it's nine o'clock uh that should give you a little bit of perspective of how slow I'm moving thanks to all of my little aches and pains but that's just what happened when you hit the ground that hard well for good gear because it could have been much much worse had I not been wearing everything that I was wearing so definitely links down to all of my riding gear down the description but literally saved my skin but we're gonna get moving slowly very slowly foreign [Music] [Music] the Wyoming dinosaur Center is one of the few dinosaur museums in the world to have excavation sites within driving distance arguably the most impressive specimen on display to the average visitor though is the supersaurus viviani at 106 feet long this is the longest scientifically accurate mount in the world the Wyoming dinosaur Center has the second and most complete specimen of supersaurus ever found [Music] thank you okay so I know that I said that I had to make miles but I couldn't resist being in Thermopolis and not stopping at the Wyoming dinosaur Center it was so cool the like the supersaurus oh so cool so cool they have like a whole reconstruction of a Super Source in there and seeing it next to reconstructions of like Triceratops like and oh my and like the the duckbilled dinosaurs is so cool like the thing is so massive anyway um I stopped gushing I got myself a little trilobite buddy to take with me he's gonna be my companion and hopefully protect me from hitting the dirt going 35 for the rest of this trip but we do gotta make miles so let's hit the road [Music] [Applause] [Music] foreign [Music] thank you [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] foreign my wounds clear across Wyoming it felt like a gift to make it to Teton National Park [Music] [Music] I hope that you guys enjoyed today's video make sure that you hit that like And subscribe button if you did I hope that you guys enjoyed today's video make sure you hit that like And subscribe button if you did a huge thank you to today's sponsor Onyx Offroad and make sure you check out the link in the description to try it out for yourself foreign
