welcome inside with the Insiders Tom pellicero that's Sofi Stadium back there now I'm near there I'm not actually in front of there uh producer's getting a little fun with the green screen now okay I'm now on a drone shot nice on a helicopter circling the stadium kind of like this looks good I don't know what's with the leaves there that looks like where we did our that's where we did our Super Bowl hits right there and I was scared I was gonna fall through it when you were scared you were scared of the water right that is correct I can't swim and it bothers me a great deal that's Ian Rappaport that is Mike Garafolo guys let's Jump Right In a lot going on in the NFL starting out with the first time in a couple of days the bills providing sort of an update on Josh Allen the Bills quarterback not practicing he's like he's gonna keep throwing me not practicing today Sean McDermott referred to him as day today Ian what else do we know uh first of all I'm having trouble concentrating not just with your moving leaves behind you but also the fact you clearly stole Smashing Pumpkins outfit from 1997 to where during our show um people don't really wear t-shirts under uh those plaid thingies anymore it's a jacket I guess it's all right that's cool I would not say it's a jacket looks more like a shirt anyway uh it's like when I dressed up as the Paul Rudd character from Clueless for our uh costume party a couple weeks ago and I basically wore that but a little blacker but anyway uh let's talk about Josh Allen so yes as we discussed yesterday on the show when I was wearing a bright yellow shirt and got disseminated all over the Internet including Reddit thanks very much guys for watching uh it is a sprained UCL for Josh Allen and I would say this I've not talked to anyone who definitively knows whether or not he is going to play on Sunday which I don't know if that's good or bad but everyone says the same thing we just literally have to see how he responds and I think it's kind of guys like when someone will say like oh yeah this guy's a game time decision they don't Rose their eyes like yay or whatever but sometimes there really are game time decisions where like the coach and the GM and the trainer are watching them this feels like something where they really do need to see how he responds how can he grip he is day to day but that doesn't mean that it could be better by tomorrow it means that we're going to have to judge day by day whether he plays on Sunday we really don't know yeah it's going to be on on watch for a while here and see if he throws I mean it didn't look great that he was walking around with his right shoulder in a rat or right elbow excuse me in a wrap on Wednesday so let's see if he's out there starting to throw a little bit I remember covering uh Eli Manning when he had a shoulder issue and it's like Wednesday he did nothing Thursday all of a sudden a little bit more Friday he was part of practice it's like if you start to see that progression you know it's a possibility and Allen has told his teammates that he believes he's going to be able to power through that was as of Tuesday night at the very least um so you know These Guys these competitive guys particularly like Josh Allen always think they're able to power through this stuff and they're going to be available so I wouldn't put too much stock into that but he certainly knows his body and feels like hey I slung it on those last couple of uh plays on the game there were two plays after one where the ball kind of died as he threw it and the next one where he threw it down the field which Andrew Siciliano told us on NFL now today was the longest pass next-gen stats has tracks them in the last six years that was an amazing I couldn't believe that I mean here's a guy with a sprained UCL doing that and like at the time I was like that's a really impressive throw I didn't think that was the greatest throw ever or not ever but in the history of it next gen stats which by the way quarterbacks now throw better than quarterbacks before unless you count Dan Marino so I don't know maybe there's been a longer pass in the history of the NFL but history was made on Sunday in a weird game-ending play with an injured quarterback I actually think about this I wonder if next-gen steps will go back in just like evaluate everyone be like all right let's take the greatest throwers the great greatest Runners like how fast are these guys going how like they should really that would be like a fun off-season project for next-gen stats you know all they need is a time machine to go back and put the chips and the shoulder pads you guys in the 1930s and it'll work out great so it might be difficult to do the more work I mean anyway moving on we knew about the Josh Allen situation for several days obviously took that shot to the Elbow area we did not know Matthew Stafford Landing in concussion protocol according to coach Sean McVay today so obviously there's a process that it would take for Stafford to get back onto the field guys as we as we've talked about before there's really not a lot of like speculating that can be done when it comes to concussions because you go into the protocol there's a series of steps you have to go through independent doctor has to clear you you don't get back on the field until that happens strictly for my football perspective though here this puts a Rams team that desperately needs to find something here and get some momentum offensively and are we going to potentially see John Wolford on Sunday against the Cardinals that depends on how staffer progresses through this protocol Ian yeah this is a weird one because I don't know if Matthew Stafford is going to play no one is and I've talked about concussions on TV a lot a lot as everyone has and I really can offer no Insight because as I always say every concussion is different and every player is different what's kind of different slash interesting here is this Rams organization really likes John Wilford and it has been a really disjointed start for this Rams team offensively obviously in part because their offensive line has been a mess mostly due to injuries but also they haven't played good when they've been all together which has been basically none John wilford's really mobile and interesting and I really do wonder if the offense is going to look maybe kind of good when he's in there so you know you always want your best players out there and the fact that Matthew Stafford's on my fantasy team I personally would like him out there but it adds another level of intrigue if John welfare goes out and plays like what if he does well you know well so according to the timeline that Sean McVeigh laid out he entered the protocol on Tuesday um which means that you know your window if you if you get in the protocol on a Sunday right like you get that that window starts earlier um I I do know that you know talking to uh Dr Alan Sills the NFL chief medical officer said with the protocol the way it is right if you're in on Sunday to play in a Thursday game is kind of tough so now you're pushing that from Tuesday to Sunday right to go through all the steps to get through the protocol seems kind of tight so I you know I would say at this point this is just me and again it's it's concussions you hate to start guessing with this stuff because it's not like a sprained ankle or stuff that you know you know takes a specific amount of time to recover from um the fact that it's Tuesday that he went into it starts that clock and might be tough for him to clear by the end of the week so we'll see well in best case he's not really practicing this week obviously you can do a little bit as you go along but he's not getting normal reps he's also been used to that because there were times over the past couple of years where he really wasn't doing a whole lot because of the elbow ended up having to go play there was the famous week he did in practice because of covid and then flew in the warning of the game I believe to Minneapolis or the night before and had to stay by himself there was that whole scenario where he was zooming into meetings there's a lot of things that teams and players have figured out how to do thanks to the scenarios they had to go through over the last few years here one player that we potentially going to see back in the lineup this week TJ watt who had the pectoral injury back in week one initial Affairs it was season ending it was not also while he was rehabbing underwent a knee surgery really didn't affect his timeline to return here they were hoping to get him back right before the buy instead sounds like according to TJ watt it's going to be right after the buy Ian this is a team that needs something some kind of spark from somebody and getting back maybe the best defensive player in the NFL uh that can't hurt yeah uh so this one guys I mean we've heard teams millions of times over talk about next man up and you know it's going to have to be a group ever and all the different things you say about replacing a star player I can pretty confidently say even though the guy's replacing him actually kind of played well no one has replaced TJ Watt and this everything about this defense has gone the wrong way and really everything about this team has gone the wrong way since he's been out the fact that he's backing out I wonder if it's going to be you know how big of an effect that will be like does he go in there and everything is just better because if they get a little bit more pressure maybe a lot more pressure which he brings it you know I mean you guys know how good he is does everything just snap back and do they all of a sudden become like a really good team defensively which helps them offensively and like he's just one player and he's not even an offensive player he's not a skill guy but he is so so so so so good maybe this is a rare case for like one guy changes everything like that's this is all that's possible Right yeah well it's one guy but it's also a guy who does so much in the past game in the Run game uh that he's affected what they've been able to do from a schematic standpoint so they're hopeful that he gets back in there that changes things in there and as far as the other side of the ball you look across just see that guy on the field time you talked about it this team needs some kind of a spark sometimes you get it in the weirdest places right like your offense can maybe look up and say hey we've got that confidence in in this guy uh we'll see um also Jalen Warren are we getting into Jalen Warren now or is that coming up because that's a guy that I picked up on my fantasy team before the before there by because I think that and I hear that some Whispers that he could possibly get a little bit more uh play in Pittsburgh uh with Naji Harris struggling a little bit so keep an eye on that I may have jumped ahead in the rundown just now I'm not sure maybe Tom was the next block it's a little bit later ah but we'll get to it yeah we'll surprise we'll surprise you with that stuff about feeling worn uh different running back Jonathan Taylor back on the practice field today he's been dealing with his ankle for like a month now before that he had a mild case of turf toe here obviously you know we looked so much at the quarterback scenarios with the Colts the offensive line struggling Marcus Brady gets fired Frank Wright gets fired but not having maybe the best running back certainly a top five running back in the NFL definitely doesn't help that offense um Ian this is something that Taylor's been managing for quite a while he really takes care of his body he's very in tune with everything I've mentioned this on Game Day morning recently he goes to this hyperbaric chamber he does all kinds of dry needling massage like everything possible on his body so this is not a scenario where this is taking him longer because of anything that he's doing it's just it's an ankle those can be tricky what do we expect if anything from Jonathan Taylor in the debut of parks Frazier as the offensive play caller for the Colts few things better than us trying to get a graphic together about Parks Fraser and realizing that he didn't have any pictures [Music] um that was that was truly fun uh so this is weird right because I would say a week ago you know when you sort of realized that it wasn't practicing and maybe he was not going to play this week you're like oh that's actually a great idea get his ankle finally right do what he did not want to do which was take the week off and things will be better well he doesn't play last week they're awful Frank Wright gets fired like does Frank Wright get fired at Jonathan Taylor is in there I don't know they would have been better offensively my guess is probably not but I don't know I mean that's it's amazing how big an impact one guy could be but the fact that he's backpacks into looking good makes me think he's gonna play on Sunday which I think would be important another thing important Tom and I don't want to you know I don't want to keep going on the segment without addressing this my understanding is what you are currently wearing is a shacket which is a shirt and a jacket it's a jacket it's like two words like a shirt one idea it's a shacket so I I have never used the word shacket in my life but I do own many shirt jackets it's just it's a way to be comfortable but casual it's perfect for shows like this as well as the Rich Eisen show which I am hosting on Roku and SiriusXM and all other sorts of platforms from noon to very eastern time and afternoon Pacific time uh today Thursday and Friday which is in Munich we got the big game Seahawks bucks on NFL Network Richard and the Gang from KDAY morning will be calling it on Sunday morning but for now I am holding down the fort having the uh the time my life in my shirt jacket uh one other injury note very quickly before before we take a break here Kyler Murray popping up with a hamstring on the estimated injury report for the Cardinals listed as did not participate Amsterdam things another tricky injury here so this is going to be one to monitor for Kyler over the course of this week before they get ready for what amounts to a really big game for them to stay in the hunt coming up against Dave Ramstein that also has questions about their quarterback Matthew Stafford all right after this we are gonna go our favorite place guys inside the drama about opponents calling out the Patriots plays about wristbands Russell Wilson P Carroll has some thoughts there and we'll tell you something you haven't heard about a guy named Jalen Warren Jalen Warren you haven't heard this name we'll talk about that right after this on the inside [Music] because there aren't enough places for you to get the Insiders how about Tick Tock at The Insider's NFL or use your smartphone right now to scan that QR code it will take you there follow us highlights from the show some of the fun moments some of the news as well that we break on this show it's all right there at Tick Tock Tom pellicero Mike your fellow Ian Rappaport back with you guys it's time now to go once again inside the drama and let's start out with something that Bill Belichick the Patriots coach said earlier this week when he freely admitted that's maybe the most interesting part of this story to me that he admitted publicly that there are players including Shaquille Leonard and CJ Mosley who have been calling out the Patriots plays before they snap the football not ideal Mike uh how big of a deal in your mind is this at a time that the Patriots offense is still trying to really gather some momentum here with Mac Jones yeah I I that's um I I think what he was trying to do was you know give these guys tips of the cap to uh how smart they are and how much film they study but this is the kind of stuff you hear from players who are in offenses where they feel like the coordinator's not doing enough hey they know what we're doing out there you hear that all the time and it's like oh boy the next thing you know they replace the coordinator maybe it's a head coach and they fire him and it's like that's a bad thing to hear so um you know you hope if you're the Patriots you self-scout a little bit you try to figure out what's going on and um adjust and you know try to get more creative again you don't have an experience play caller so let's see what Matt Patricia and Company can dig up and do to avoid this kind of stuff yeah I I kind of read it a little differently from you guys because I didn't see that it was something where the guys were calling out plays I felt like it was more Belichick saying maybe they knew what was coming because they were great but either way Belichick does zero by accident right so clearly he put this out there because I don't know but must have been some reason and I wonder is it to let other defensive players know that they're now unnoticed that if they think something's coming it might be something different does he have trap set yeah for inside linebackers slash Green Dot guys and next week what is going on here that Bill Belichick will use to play chess or we all play checkers that's what I kept wondering with this like clearly it's for a reason I just wasn't sure yeah I think I think it's I think it's there on to us and let me throw this out there so that they know that we know and think like well I saw this but will they have adjusted because we know that they know that they know that we know right like that kind of thing just a little bit of hesitation I mean that's that's why I said the most interesting part is Bill saying this publicly there's no way that that's not a calculator somebody who does not give up anything downtown L.A is that what's going on there because people in La when you talk to them about going downtown nobody goes downtown okay I'll throw it downtown L.A we stayed down there during the Super Bowl Mike listen uh Julie Willoughby she deserves a shout out she's the best she books uh most of our travel and she one time asked me where I wanted to stay she's definitely not watching it put me downtown she's like I would never have one of my friends stay downtown you're not staying downtown I was like okay no problem no I thought the hotel we stayed during the Super Bowl the great thing about going La is I literally never have any idea where I am I went to LA every week for like six years with NFL Network zero about it and never knew where Ian where's the ocean uh it's uh it's that way um hmm all right moving on uh elsewhere inside the drama uh and this one is pretty fun uh and I don't know if we have sound for it but Russell Wilson and Pete Carroll having a bit of a back and forth Pete said something along the lines of what he was complimenting Gino Smith for wearing a wristband saying that that can expedite some things make things cleaner from a play calling perspective than saying that they hadn't really done that in the past because there were some people who might have pushed back against it Russ then was asked during his press conference today about it and said well we won a lot of games without me wearing a wristband I didn't know that we're at a wristband or not was the difference between winning and losing uh I I will say this it's not an accident that the Seahawks look different offensively right now without Russell Wilson because they're running a more pure version of what Shane Waldron always wanted to do and it's a Tempo and it is timing whereas Russ you know a lot of the stuff they did last year was still the things that Russ had done in the past and they were trying to make him comfortable and it's also worth pointing out in Denver he has not been wearing a wristband this season and the Broncos had a lot of bumps not true he not in the early stage of the Season he was not when they were having he wore one he wore one in London that is that breaking I said in the early stages early stages of the Season he was not wearing it when they were having delayed games and some apparent issues with getting the plays in so all right Ian what do you got to say about this what do you have to say for yourself here's what I got here's what I got to say about two things one Russell Wilson clearly doesn't like wristbands and clearly decided to wear one recently which means they were basically like bro you Gotta Wear wristband they were never able to do that in Seattle a lot of things went haywire in Seattle mostly because of the the way it had gone with Russ and the organization it was all sideways but I'm here for all of this I want all of the snark and the you know kind of digs and under because finally now we get all the things that everyone said privately about Russ and Seattle Seahawks and their relationship for years um I it's all coming out now and so I just kind of as someone who really enjoys the gossip and none of this is bad it's not like Seattle's saying rust is a bad person because he doesn't want to wear a stupid wristband but I just want to hear all the gripes and clearly clearly Pete Carroll for years has been like that guy that guy won't even wear a wristband well and here's why I'm team Pete and why I'm okay with it because Russell Wilson forced his exit from Seattle and then tried to pretend like he didn't right so that was it was a two-year process and the second year after he got traded the Seahawks release statements making it Crystal Clear who was the driving force behind a trade it was Russell Wilson and now they're better off for it right they've got a whole slew of draft pick compensation Geno Smith is playing great and a guy that the entire locker room rallies behind instead of a guy that they're looking side eye at like this guy is kind of out there um so you know a lot of fun Pete Carroll I'm kind of gloating a little bit things are going well we're winning football games we've moved on you know like if you if you break up with a girl and you're with somebody else you're wondering to see that right you kind of you're kind of floating you say you don't you say you've moved on you say you're happy for whatever she's doing but you kind of want it this really is it's my read on it is the c Ox bit their tongue on a lot of stuff and they did it right until the day they traded Russ and then put out that statement saying Russ wanted a fresh start and that was no accident that was in there and so for Pete who listen Pete Carroll's a Super Bowl winning head coach he is what possibly a Hall of Fame coach he wanted the college level he's won everywhere he's ever been and there was this constant drum beat of leaks and information about all the reasons that Pete was the problem and Pete was the one who had to go and they're gonna have to choose between Russ and Pete and now that they did move on with Russ and what he wanted to do and sending him to Denver and it's Russ who listen we're only at midpoint this could turn around but like he's struggling out of the gate where the Seahawks look like they're totally rejuvenated like they were 10 years ago and winning with Geno Smith the quarterback and playing in a borderline MVP level and the offense folks are really high level I don't blame Pete for saying you know what even though there's a long way to go in the season I'm going to say a few of these things I'm going to remind you I'm kind of gonna without saying his name without talking about things that were said I'm going to kind of remind you about all the times you said that I was the problem and look at us now look look what's going on all right let's take a air oh actually let's get to one other thing we want to get to here uh Mike I know you're eager to talk about this it's a new segment we're calling uh no one cares about your fantasy team but we do we'll pretend anyway for the uh the sake of TV here Mike give me a player that you think oh it's already says it on the screen there okay tell me about it yeah yeah coming off a buy for an offense that needs a spark uh a guy who has performed well a guy that they were impressed with Ian and I were in uh Latrobe in training camp and that was a name that came up within the first couple of names watch this guy he's probably gonna make the team not only has he made the team he's been a contributor for them and now he might be I don't know borderline starter right now with uh uh Naji Harris struggling this year and he's had some foot stuff as well like at some point you got to start changing the parts they change the quarterback maybe you change the running back and that leads to stuff uh he he runs hard he blocks hard he does a lot of things uh very well he's on my fantasy team I probably won't start him this week but uh I like the stash right there hey and at this point you're right you only have so many other things you can change so maybe mixing things up in the backfield trying to jump start Naji Harris in the process uh could be the move uh coming up after this I don't even know how to describe the video of one of our NFL Network callings but you're going to want to see it we'll do that after this on the inside yep [Music] I don't even know what to say about this our guy Sean O'Hara whose name is misspelled there and Eli Manning in studio with five EO foreign he's my favorite New York drill music rapper he appeared on the Eli Manning show invited the guys to come hang out in the studio pretty big up in the uh the New York Region it sounds like uh Sean O'Hara told our Larry Campbell that he was quote working on our drip um yeah it looks more like a Bert and Ernie Sesame Street situation there uh but guys let me ask this question feel free to react to that as well but Ian if you're gonna hang out with one musician in the studio who is it it's not long and hard about this I'm gonna go with Brett Michaels from Poison wearing his T-shirt right now he wants DM me and invited me on stage at one of his concerts I wasn't able to make it um but hopefully in the future I can go to a poison concert we can party and do what people do in the 80s which I guess is listening to music and drink I like both those things so we'll see Mike yeah well the problem is you know a lot of these guys are kind of crazy right and yeah I'm I like a good time but I don't want a crazy time I'm 42 years old I'm past that part of my life but I would like to enjoy myself so you never really know like you see these guys from afar who knows maybe you hang out with Alice Cooper and he tells you that melee Waukee uh is Algonquin for the good land and if they're not quite what you expect so I I just it's tough to to Really assess it from afar but I probably would go with Dave Grohl uh love his music um seems like a a well-adjusted guy you'd be entertaining the conversation would be thoughtful and intelligent and we'd have some fun I will stick in a little bit later than the Dave brawl whose Nirvana stories I would love to hear based on all the uh the backstory and that band the way that they came up I'm gonna go with Tom Delong who is back in blink 182. uh how

are you ever going to top the guy from Blink 182 and the guy who literally found the aliens what more are you gonna want in a conversation over a drink than like talking about the government finding UFOs and also touring after enema of the state that to me pretty tough to beat so thank you for watching hopefully time belongs watching if he's not looking through a telescope right now uh you can watch us every Tuesday Wednesday Friday 8 P.M Eastern Time across all fast platforms watch us on YouTube follow us on Tick Tock wherever you are can't miss us we're going to report Mike Garofalo I'm Tom Pell with Cyril see ya [Music]
