[Brief intro] [Walking tour begins / Corso Garibaldi] [Torre del Ponte / Bridge Tower] [Piazza Fioritto] 1/2 ☀️Church of St.Elias☀️ Built in the 13th century, the church has a Latin cross plan. Of interest is the interior with Latin inscriptions, a single nave and a wooden ceiling cover. 2/2 The altar is surmounted by a cross vault. The rough facade has two rose windows, while the bell tower is unfinished, without the ceiling. [Vico Storto] [Piazza del Popolo] 1/3 ☀️Church of the Purgatory / Chiesa del Purgatorio☀️ It was used by the Benedictine monks of the Abbey of Calena as an ossuary.
2/3 On the ceiling there is a large painting, representing Purgatory, Heaven and Hell, with death and his chariot, in addition there are two skulls: one in stone on the lintel and another in wood on the door, a symbol of all the churches of Purgatory and of the cult of the dead. 3/3 The bell tower ends with a sail and has two small bells, in addition to the only clock in the historic center. Inside, among other things, a single organ dating back to the '700. ️1/10 Brief History of Peschici️
