otherwise you've got vegetarian thai cuisine there's a mexican restaurant coming up a little bit of everything yeah you get more information and you can squid restaurant coming up on your right there is a famous little diner called the elder street diner really get open 24 hours a day if you have a craving for a hamburger this is the museum of nature for the foxes and the dinosaurs nobody hopping out here so all right there's a museum of nature right the only free hotel in all of ottawa what the ottawa police station the jail right over here i got to be back here at six o'clock i was just like what i want to go to hotel but then they're mine i don't want to go to that hotel i never want to go to that hotel i do not want to go down hotel all right there's a free hotel right there you can't go here remember i told thank you so much where no tour bus has ever gone are you before in the wrong direction now oh come on so there's a museum of nature on your right so you see just how big it is it's huge if you do visit any of the four big museums nature war history in the gallery you gotta spend the whole day in each one you see the visit into the cat one museum i have no idea where we i think yeah once we're on this road we'll be good so this neighborhood right here coming up this is the glebe and this is a trendy little part of ottawa where you'll find all the cool restaurants and shops so we're going to go to the glebe right now there's the sign on here oh yeah watch out for the button there so there's the sign for the cleave on the right so you see the calcium i'm told that meghan's getting an estimate all right there's a glee i guess so we're going to go straight ahead to that apartment building right there that's lansdowne park where we play most of our sports here in ottawa everything except for hockey that's a different location but there's a football team here basketball so we're going to go there now come on a parking lot i don't want you guys to spawn now speaking of sports canada is the only commonwealth country in the world where cricket is not the official sport and oddly enough hockey is not the official sport of canada it's lacrosse let's get it up there's toilet paint commonwealth on the moon lacrosse so we invented basketball we invented hockey but lacrosse is the official sport hockey is more of a religion a big football stadium right now don't oh yeah sure yeah all right so nobody hopping out let's see if there's anyone waiting for us nobody waiting for it um all right so if you look on your left you'll see the big football stadium if you're a fan of football you can buy a condo and watch your games for free there's a stadium and on your left the reason it auto up is even on the map dorito canal so the canal starts right here and downtown ottoman goes all the way down to kingston 200 kilometers to the south right across from new york so in the summertime it's for boats and in the winter it's the world's largest skating rink 50 000 people a day go skating on the canal every january so canal come also the wifey on kingston do some kilometers yeah potato new york donation put it back to it don't leave here see if you're gonna out on the boat juice a lot of embassies in this neighborhood there's the portuguese there's greece we're also coming up to the lowest bridge in ottawa this bus used so 10 seconds many ready is so they wanted to send us canadians a thank you gift for liberating olin for helping them out so they said just tulips just became an annual tradition every may 3 million tulips you know i've been dealing with um so on your left we have dallas lake pavilion right here nice place right now we're heading up to the experimental 1886 the agricultural museum the uh is all right all right so on your right you're going to see the ornamental gardens right over there and there's the agricultural museums this farm is huge it goes on for miles so experimental farms now if you look straight ahead you're going to see the tallest building in all of ottawa brand new condos just opened up now there's a big controversy with that building right there there's a rule in autumn a law that says no building shall be built taller than the flag at the parliament which is 33 stories high that building is 45 stories high and half the city of ottawa does not like that building we even have a saying in ottawa we don't want to be toronto that buildings is a little too toronto for our taste but it is what it is it's there now tallest building in all of ottawa assassin is 550 000 top floor 2 million so we're going to turn the left here on the breast and you're going to see the sign right there little italy so it's a really i do not want to go all the way on top of that balcony now if you were on a boat in ottawa you wanted to do the 200 kilometer journey from ottawa to kingston by boat it would take you three days to get there you can only go 10 kilometers an hour and there are 47 locks you have to pass through it takes you three days to get the kingston by boat you want to get there a little fast you can drive hour and a half all right so uh here's a little italy and at the end of this you've got somerset street chinatown we'll go to that too so uh i is they said they lost their distractions all right so we're going to chinatown now so i was in italy now we'll go to chinatown italians it's hmm as you know ottawa is the capital of canada wasn't always the capital in fact for many years that title used to bounce back and forth between cities and one day all the politicians got tired of moving around so much not a big meeting to choose what city was going to be the capital forever so they got together he had four cities to choose from there was toronto kingston montreal and quebec one of those cities was going to become the capital when the politicians got together as they often do all they could do is argue nobody could agree as to what city it should be in the debate lasted for so long that they finally had to ask an outsider to choose for them so they asked queen victoria if she wouldn't mind choosing the capital of canada the queen said sure why not so they sent to the list of four cities and they asked you to keep two things in mind when choosing the capital first was the capital of canada has to be bilingual speak english and french second was the capital have to be far enough away from new york should there be another war of 1812 between the british and the americas the capital could be right next door we'd be in trouble so with those two things in mind queen took a look at the leslie center none of the four cities were good enough they were either two english to french or they'd already been attacked by the americans so she had to come up with another name and she had a problem queen victoria never visited north america didn't know anything about it so she had to do some research and during that time somebody showed her a painting of ottawa she asked about it and they told her it was a small little town right next door to quebec the english the french the scottish the irish they were all living here so it's perfectly bilingual plus ottawa was the only city in ontario that did not get attacked by the americans during the war of 1812 so ottawa was safe so ottawa sounded perfect to the queen so in 1857 queen victoria made the announcement to the world that ottawa was the new capital of canada and it was a horrible choice everyone absolutely hated it there were only 7 000 people living here at the time there was nothing in ottawa except a few bars and some factories but you can't argue with queen victoria so they had to make ottawa the permanent capital now everyone thought toronto was going to become the capital and it probably would have been if queen victoria hadn't chosen ottawa in 1857 and toronto has been jealous of ottawa ever since so on falsetto there's the uh the big entranceway let's see what the price of gas is in ottawa this afternoon i'm sure it'll be horrible oh i want to pay that's owned smith knows so we are looking at a dollar 92 a liter so during coving gas in ottawa was 65 cents a liter pendant there you go there any americans on board it's 3.85 liters for one gallon so it's roughly eight dollars a gallon all right so that was china down so we're gonna make our way back downtown now this is take another movie so ottawa has a population of one fifth largest city in canada largest city in canada is toronto with six million second is montreal with four third is vancouver out on the west coast they have three million forth this calgary with 1.3 million fifth is ottawa with 1.1 million in canada has a total population of 39 million people so not a lot of people live in the world's second largest country russia is the largest canada second and eighty percent of all canadians live within one hour of the american border so once you get past calgary and especially edmonton not a lot up north pretty empty here in ottawa we're 45 minutes from new york state so hello yes uh uh normally i'd go every couple of years but with kovid i want to try and get back this year so hopefully at the end of the year i'll go back is now coming up on your right you're going to see an embassy that's been on the news a lot lately and they've got a lot of support a lot of uh politicians going into this embassy on your right the ukrainian embassy right over so you'll see here lot of flowers and letters for the ukraine right here there's the ukraine i see the chinese yeah so you'll see all the signs right here so a lot of politicians have been coming here and uh helping them out so the footage you see on behalf of it is is you want to change my teens please oh okay what's the best all right so we're back on elgin street during last year brew okay so we're back on elegant streets this is where you'll find a lot of those restaurants but i'll show you the market in a minute and that's where there are 300 restaurants we have restaurants so coming up on our right this is the municipal government once again the city hall city courthouse right here so i'd love right now if you look on your right you're going to see a big building with canada written up top that's department of national defense the military that's the one that departs the motor the policeman yeah right here so those guards will be there for another 15 minutes and then they'll change so don't cancel oh so we're going to head to the market right now i'm going to show you our kiosk just how close it is so if you want to walk back to the market or even elgin street both 10 minutes really easy so i'll show you the kiosk right now all right so if you look on your left you'll see our amphibus right over there the red bus that's our kiosk right there now if you look straight ahead you're going to see the chateau la vie hotel that hotel is the most expensive hotel in all of ottawa the most expensive room ten thousand dollars a night for the rich and the famous founder anybody here on your right there's the senate of canada right there so i'd want to extend it to get it up a few years ago prince from saudi arabia came to ottawa with an entourage of 400 people rented the entire hotel for three days and on your right we have a big shopping mall the reno center 200 stores so right here sussex this is where we'll find a lot of the big embassies right there that castle is the most hated building in all of canada canada revenue agency the tax people canada largest government department 45 000 people worked for the cra and i wanted to pick up the telephone call area with all the restaurants so if you remember clarence york and george street that's where you'll find everything so the whole clearance york you see a george we got to do it so three streets 300 restaurants and i'll show you some good places right now we here's the ottawa sign right there the closest one is now to walk back here five minutes from the kiosk otherwise did anybody want to hop out can't complain about the admit no nobody no okay we're good nobody helping out i don't think there's anybody waiting for us now coming up on your right is the actual byword market for the uh fruits and the vegetables on the weekends watch president for the fleet so if you look on your right you'll see the firewood market right there so if you watch the mountain box you got your fruits and vegetables and things like that so if you remember clarence york and george street they're good you could be in clarence northey george you know you left that's the lyric have a legal street oh we got a special person right here who is that there's clarence street right there so for all the patios is there's a big ottawa sign right there so going to see you doctor wildlife if you look up in the sky you're going to see uh there you go he might land on our bus you better have a ticket all right no he's heading for revenue canada and straight ahead the biggest the most expensive embassy you guessed at the american embassy right here opened up in 1999 by bill clinton 250 million dollars of america that church is the most popular church in ottawa to get married at there's a three-year waiting list to get married at this church they even have a saying for it first you booked the date then you find your mate afraid if you get a chance to go inside you'll see why it's so popular it's really nice inside in many people so if you booked the wedding today you get married in 2025 plenty of times to change your mind i'll put it on the shoulder you're on your right there's the damn basilica japanese embassy and now i'm going to show you the second the most expensive embassy in canada i'll give you a clue saudi arabia at 150 million dollars on your right this big trout building right here is the leicester pierson building department of global affairs so then if he says he doesn't need them to have phones he has this is a building that talks to all the other countries in the world and on your left we have the national research council canada right here science lab wow of ottawa and as we cross this bridge we're heading into the oldest neighborhood great car that's the first school of ottawa 1837.
so there it is the first school at the time 12 students now in washington we have 1600 pennsylvania avenue in london you have 10 downing streets on your left 24 hour sussex this is where the prime ministers used to live so i goes to all states i'll show you where he is now so right here with a statue of the queen we have rideau hall the governor general's residence so this is where the queen's representative lives cerrito hall to see this team and this is now where trudeau lives so this is where the prime ministers live at rideau hall so the queen's representative and the prime minister live right here that's not the house in case you're wondering that's just the gift shop so the grounds are open you could visit it so the reason that the prime minister no longer lives in 24 sussex the house itself was built in 1850 and it's in a horrible shape it's literally falling apart so when the prime minister trudeau won in 15 they told him he was moving here to rideau hall so make that extreme move so go through again to leave at them so the queen is the queen of 16 countries in each country as a governor general and ours lives right here the house way back there let me go so if anyone in the royal family were to come to ottawa this is where they would stay prince charles was here a month ago a few years ago but harry went to vegas and right now we're heading out to the most expensive neighborhood in all of ottawa rock cliff this is where all the politicians ambassadors and tour guides live ambassador james so this is where most of the ambassadors so we're going to see a few of the ambassadors homes right now so this is the beverly hills of baltimore oh great
