My FIRST DAY IN KOCHI India
Hello India, it's been a while and by a while eight years. That was the last time I was here guys not sure if you saw it in the last video where I was doing the hotel tour but I figured I would start the video one more time with that because I’m so excited to be here and so yeah guys actually I’m in the city of Kochi in Southern India. It's pronounced Kochi my friend or Koochi? Kochi, Kochi. So, yeah guys I am actually on my way to go kind of get my first impressions of this place but first of course I need to get a sim card I do have GoogleFi as my like provider where it works anywhere in the world but for some reason it only works near the airport and then once I got into the city it's like had this E symbol so it's no longer worked. So, I’m heading over to the cellular store which I looked up it's apparently the best for cell signal it's called idea cellular in terms of like both outside the city and inside the city I guess we'll find out though and I’m gonna go there get a sim card and then after that we're gonna head into the city show you guys some of my first impressions some of the things to do we're gonna kind of see where this night goes but I’m really excited for it because I’ve wanted to get back to India for so so long and here we are finally. Let me first of all tell you guys it is going to be pretty warm exploring down here I’ll tell you that I spent a couple hours sleeping when I first got here in the air conditioning it's humid it's in the southern part of India so it's very very warm especially now that we're in March.
So yeah, and I am mentally preparing myself for being outside in the midday the next couple days just kind of get used to the sun I will say when I was just in Sri Lanka it was pretty hot some days but you could easily get over to the mountains and so I feel like I wasn't I didn't experience any days that were super super hot and I was there for a lot of February only a little bit of march in Sri Lanka I will say generally just driving down the road here I found that at least maybe this is just the south and I’m referring to about eight years ago and like Delhi is obviously a way more populated city but down here in the south like it doesn't seem as like jam-packed on the roads it seems like the traffic is slightly more or not slightly quite a bit more organized in terms of just general cruising down the main main roads here because I feel like I remembered in like Bangalore or Delhi like these roads would be so packed you know at the early in the day mid-day end of the day and we're right at the end of the day around like 5 p.m. so you'd think it'd be like crazy busy packed but maybe we're just not in that part of the city. Are you from this area my friend? Are you are you from here? Yeah yeah, very nice where's the best place to visit tonight tonight? Yeah like is there a tourist area? Just go to the-- Marine--? How do I spell that? Forty beach? Fort Kochi beach. Ah that's the best yeah. So, then there's like stuff to do down
there things to do in Fort Kochi beach. Oh, very nice so I think that'll be the move then guys we'll head down after we get the sim card go down to Fort Kochi beach check it out and that's were we'll start out our first impressions here. So we'll see once we get to the phone store so guys still go about 15 minutes away it's about 252 rupees which comes up to about like three dollars and 50 cents for uber here so the nice part anywhere in the city and thank you so much it's nani or nandr? Alright, my guess is maybe it's this spot across the street because I’m not seeing-- Oh wait maybe there's a phone store right down here the problem is I don't have any data so I’m kind of just guessing good news is that's a phone store across the street and we've got it looks like maybe another one O2 mobiles down here so we're gonna find out in just a moment if this is the spot. Oh, here we go O2 mobiles, yeah. Hello, my friends how we doing? You guys have sim cards here? Yes. Oh perfect no sim cards? No sim cards? You know anywhere I can find a sim card? Do they have sim cards? How far is that? Walking? Alright Thank you. Alright, guys well I guess we're out of luck here we're not getting a sim card there he's saying one kilometer so that's quite a bummer but there is the phone shop over there that says service recharge I’m gonna try that one maybe they're competitors you know you never know I can see these streets are pretty busy I wanna say you can just walk across but it doesn't look like anyone's gonna be stopping. Alright
here we go and successful. Alright I guess we're just gonna have to attempt to cross I don't see this side slowing down anytime soon just gotta wait for that right time I’m thinking after this motorcycle is gonna be the only opportunity we have and oh, alright that was successful. Let's see if this place down here has sim cards alright guys I walked into the other store and they said the exact same thing I wasn't filming because I put the camera down for a second but yeah so, my guess is you must only be able to get sim cards at like certain shops because that was two like mobile specific stores and neither of them actually sold sim cards so I was actually quite surprised but if it's like some other countries I’ve been to you need to go to like an actual corporate store in order to get the sim card but wow we gotta cross this street again they're saying it's about a half kilometer up this way the other guy said it's a kilometer so hopefully it's somewhere in between and it'll take us maybe 10 minutes of walking to get there. Alright we gotta find one of these spots to go through and we're gonna have to just go for it oh not yet alright here we go we finally found an opening for some reason all the cars stopped over there so it gave us an opportunity to cross. Well, anyways you guys know me I like an adventure anyways if it was that easy to get a sim card it'd be no fun right. So, now we're gonna do a little walk-in maybe we'll even meet some locals on the way maybe we'll get on the back of a bike we'll see what ends up happening. Hello, my friend oh yeah as you

Let me tell you this it's a beautiful day out here we're just about at sunset and we're gonna be cruising down I guess this way until we see the place, I’ll keep an eye out for it because they did say it was going to be somewhere like half a kilometer up and we shall see if we come across it here is good here is good, yeah. Oh, I thought that was airtel but I guess it's not airtel it was just a billboard for it. Guys great news we have located airtel
after a little bit of a journey. Thank you. Alright we have arrived just good news right here thank you my friend. Airtel so this wasn't originally the phone company I was gonna end up to but hey let's put it this way beggars can't be choosers don't have any cell signals so let's do it. Alright guys we are back and connected to the social world again so that's good news. We just got all set up we got 4G and it's pretty fast here at airtel so that's great news and I paid I want to say 300 for like two gigs a day so that comes out to less than ten dollars I’m still getting my conversions right. Let me tell you exactly how much that is 300 and I wanna to say 50 is what I paid for oh, as you guys can hear lots of horns here 350 so 4.50 for basically like two
gigs a day but like I have a prepaid plan and then I’m recharging it in about three hours once it activates with a plan called the 50-gigabyte data so that way when I use my two-gigabyte data limit it'll then pull from these 50 gigs bank of data that I have if that makes sense so that's another 300 so basically I’ve spent 10 dollars if you have a phone plan for the next month and have data all the time Fort- Fort Kochi Beach. Yeah, alright. Alright guys we're at a quick turn of events right over to Fort Kochi Beach. and we're going to be cruising right over there so it's great to be connected And let's head on over hopefully we're gonna catch it just in time for sunset but I guess we shall see. So yeah guys I realized I didn't tell you all
the details yet for getting a sim card. So, I believe it is the fact that you do need to go to like a main store to get the sim card the reason being is they take down your passport they write the information your visa information all that stuff gets loaded into the computer and then you're able to get a sim card so, make sure when you're going to the phone store you bring your passport with and you'll be all set anyway guys I’m taking a rickshaw tuk-tuk all the way to Fort Kochi Beach which is about 35 minutes away and it's about 350 Indian rupees so yeah roughly seven dollars is that no five dollars five dollars to get down there. So we'll see when we get down there hopefully, we can show you some of it at sunset since it is 35 minutes away that's gonna be a pretty tight timeline. Wow, yeah so, I guess this is when the evening traffic comes out at about 6:00 p,m. things get a bit busier and we're going to be getting a proper city tour because it took me about 20 minutes to get to the cell phone store from the Ramada and then now I’m going 35 minutes towards the beach. So we're getting a kind of a pretty-pretty good look at the city overall, on our third video here in India.
Oh, guys we lost it. The bus is in the way but if you look across here, we've got navy ships on both sides here wow this must be like the heart of where the military is down here because that is intense we have this massive I guess you could call like port river that leads in and wow let me put it this way I did not expect this they're really gearing up you got like those two warships over there looks like they're running at the dock wow I think I’m counting like five large warships and a couple small ones and then maybe a couple coast guard warships over there and look at that sunset guys we may get to the beach in time that'll be incredible to show you whoa we got a machan [bro] overtaking us or aliyah [bro] Guys I’m gonna tell you right away I just arrived to India from being in Sri Lanka for six weeks so I’m definitely going to accidentally use Sinhala words for the first couple videos it's just stuck in my head right now so that's just what happened so yeah I understand if people don't understand me and I know you guys are gonna comment something about it but just understand that's what happens when I change countries I confuse words for a little bit until I get used to it so oh looks like we got something going on here some sort of prison maybe maybe not I don't know what it is but there's a lot of barbed wire they're guarding something in there looks like we're getting down to the beach just in time we're about eight kilometers out and wow this is where the traffic really builds up around here looks like we're not the only ones with the idea to head down to the beach. Full speed ahead. Guys I will say that's one super cool thing about Kochi that I’ve noticed is that since it's kind of like surrounded by lakes rivers as well as obviously being on the coast of the ocean there's like a bunch of like islands or land masses that are all connected by bridges here and the cool part is in this area there's some nice restaurants sitting right along the water and I could imagine they probably sell a lot of seafood here with the amount of fishing boats that lined this side of the country, wow, and actually that's residency I think I almost stayed at that hotel but I ended up deciding on the Ramada for a couple different reasons but this place looks good the salt restaurant looks like a vibe oh it smells good too my friends delish. Looks like down there they've even got a market so a bit of everything going on and a massive beer sign hello hello hello oh yeah Nope. Didn't get much reaction out of him all
right the hustle and bustle down here there's a lot of shops to explore though I am just looking out like wow market hunt video in coming soon guys probably in one of the next like three or four upcoming videos we'll be back here for it oh bakeries. Well, guys we must be in some sort of like navy area because as we're cruising through here we just went through like a pretty big navy check and I didn't film it because I was getting stared at and I’m seeing a bunch of signs that say like right there oh no that's not the one that was just no dumping but I saw like no drone signs and stuff so my guess is we must be close to military bases well we're not that far away from where I just showed you where all those navy ships are so that makes sense but it seems like yeah, a lot of people are walking in this area museums there oh a museum, wow. Alright really cool looking trees yeah, this is a vibe the uber driver that took me to the phone store that's a good recommendation this is exactly what I wanted to see for my like first moments here but wow look at another one of these trees they have like vines hanging down from them that's insane oh, wow the police cars are pink. Alright, well we've arrived we've got a little sunlight left too so that's just in time. Thank you. Oh, thank you my friend, goodbye. Alright we have made it down here literally just in time and is that some ice cream I’m seeing right there got some crows chowing down I guess you could say we've kind of missed sunset. Hello. Alright, oh yeah first sunset in India guys I could not be more excited wow and it looks like that must be like a pathway where you can walk ice cream stands all up along here we've even got a happy new year over there. Oh, you can even get some kites over here we've got it almost literally looks like a bird at first glance especially with all the crows flying around the chocolate ice cream it's got a unique taste to it it's almost like I’m trying to figure out the best way to explain this type of chocolate ice cream I can't even figure it out I hope that means it's safe to eat well I guess we'll find out if we're gonna be on the john later john slang for toilet but this definitely seems like the spot to go colors are beautiful down here lots of locals hanging out and enjoying the night catching the sunset very relaxing you can hear oh just listen for a second guys. All the crows they're all up in the trees this was just like when I was in Kandy, Sri Lanka if you guys saw that video it's called bats take over this city and at like 7:00 p.m. they just like make all of this noise it's absolutely crazy.
Oh, very nice locals down here. As you can see it's a big port town we've got that massive evergreen shipping container massive barge coming in to the port right at the evening oh it looks like they've got some some sort of snacks going on over here oh those are good? Potatoes or pineapples oh pineapple. I might have to try that. Hello, my friend what are those? Oh, and they're good delicious. Honestly guys it kind of reminds me of kind of like Mexican food similarly with an Indian touch though because you got a light spice in there you got peppers you got onions maybe a little hot sauce very good stuff. So, guys these are very delicious nice having a little street food right along here with the carts, we're gonna see if we can find a place to sit down and continue eating these seems like they've got quite a few shops around here as well and it looks like a market over there so busy down here we got corn on the cob I might have to get dessert corn on the cob after eating ice cream I’m kind of eating things backwards I ate the dessert first then I ate the I guess you could call this one more of an appetizer and yeah then we're gonna find the main course in just a moment. Guys as you can see, we're right now down by the water here and the sun is pretty much done with its course here in today's day very nice though oh we've got a lot of dogs around here but someone told me that in India they have the highest they have a really large amount of dogs that have rabies here and I don't have the rabies shot so gotta be careful I had one run up to me I wasn't filming because I went to wash my hands after eating those things and yeah, now we're we're back at it I did see a a guy down there who was selling some rings so we're gonna make a quick cruise down this way see what we can find there's quite a few market vendors here. It's always fun when you go to a market you buy something and you meet some locals there too they really got me hooked up ended up buying two rings only planned on buying one so with that type of energy but 80 rupees guys for two rings which is literally one dollar I gave him a hundred and I told him to keep a change like that's literally like one dollar for two rings such a good deal and yeah wow very beautiful though even now after the sun's going down it is still nice and relaxing and it says danger area don't take a bath my guess is because how strong these waves are right here they don't recommend people swimming here because it'll just rip you out to see I mean you have these massive barges only probably like half a kilometer out there that are coming in. So, it makes sense that probably gets super deep really fast in that I don't know much about ocean currents but the way those waves look like it's a pretty safe assumption to say if you go too far in there it's going to rip your way out there. A lot of important old places here yeah one is the place in Matanjari there is a 500, 600 years old building. Oh, wow too many places here yeah then that sounds like we got to make a visit there oh yeah yeah this is the main tourist place before coming. And mostly here is Vasco da Gama church. Spice market, some shopping places many many places here. So how long will it take us to do all of those things that one is this mostly this better is morning time it's good. Morning time yeah. Everything is open time is around 10 o'clock perfect. Morning this time it's dark yeah.
All museums are closing at five. Right right well maybe tomorrow we go then yeah especially if you have an Indian Ferrari aka tuk-tuk. Small price. Yeah, what's what's your price?
