March. That strange in-between month. Not quite winter, not quite spring.
The air still carries a bit of a chill and everything is just grey. All colors muted as the nature is paused and waiting. But if you listen closely and have a look at the surroundings, you'll see it. Spring is coming. Quietly and slowly, but it's coming.
It's March 20th something and it is officially one of the first days this year when you can properly feel the warmth of the sun. It's the day that you've been looking forward to the whole winter. So naturally, I'm out here with my bike. We're going to take a proper tour of this bike a little bit later.
I'll make a separate video about it. This is Expedition this time and her name is Tundra and she'll be my riding companion this year. With this weather, I had to get out. I had to get out. So I packed up the bike with my tent and camping gear and all that normal stuff. And we're going to go for a just one night camping trip in the area here.
I'm also new to this area. I recently moved here. So it's also nice to meet them and get to know my backyard a little bit. And also a nice little reminder for myself that you don't have to go that far to enjoy yourself on the bike. You don't have to be on the road for a week. One night sometimes can be more than enough.
Let's see what good roads we can find. And other than that, just soak up the sun. 2025 you're going to be awesome. New season, new bike, but the same familiar feeling. As soon as the engine hums beneath me, the noise in my head just fades. My bike can carry a lot.
Gear, fuel and me. But somehow there is never space for stress, deadlines or expectations. Those things stay at home just like they know they're not welcome out here. There's only room for simplicity and whatever comes around the next corner. There is really nothing that beats the first day of spring.
Or a few things at least. Sweet. Oh, look at this. What a nice day. Oh, shit.
Nope. That's not happening. Look at this. Oh. The nice thing about roads like this, one of many, is that they're so different when you ride them one way and then the other way.
It's like a whole new, it's like a whole new road when you can see it from a different perspective. This is where we're going to have a coffee. This bike is a little bit taller than the standard Norton, so I can reach like one toe on the ground at the time. So I just have to be a little mindful about that. F***ing hair. Jesus.
I could have taken a nap here easily. It's taken me a while to kind of get into the filming rhythm again, I can feel. I have a camping that I've located that I know is open that I think I'm gonna head towards.
I think it's an hour or something. Maybe not even that. Well, ish an hour from here, I think. Let's pack the stuff and myself on the bike and then get back on the road again.
So we are almost at the destination actually, at the camping there, but it's only 4 30. And I'm not done with riding today, so I think I'm gonna ride before the campsite. There's a road going up here and then I can make a loop and come back down there again.
So I think we're gonna do that. By the way, look at this. From mountains and down to the fjords. I love it.
I realized that the store actually closed at the 5 o'clock here, so quickly stop for some dinner. And of course, in this weather, you can't not have an ice cream. Come on. Oh, look at this. Holy cow.
It looks very closed, but I did contact them and they said they were open. And it was possible to camp here. First camping of the year. Look at this spot. With this view.
Holy shit. And there is literally no one else here. And it cost me 15 euros.
15 euros for this. Are you kidding me? Let's go. And just like that, the night is upon us and the darkness is gone. Well, it's about 9 30 right now.
The stars have started appearing in the sky and it's just super nice to listen to the ocean and the breeze. And knowing that tomorrow is most likely 99% sure gonna be a day full of sun and blue skies as well. I am content. It's quite a bit colder already, but I am packed in my little cocoon here. I got my warmest sleeping pad.
I got my warmest sleeping bag with a... Hold on, where is it? With a liner. And outside of that, again, I have like a rescue bag thing. It's supposed to be ventilated so it doesn't get all moist on the inside with the condensation. And I have layers and layers of wool on me, so I don't think I will be cold tonight at least.
How do you even summarize a day like today? It's... I think you know already if you're a biker or... In general, I think just that first proper spring day when it's warm outside and you can actually take off clothes instead of taking on more. And oh, it's just... It's so incredibly nice. And being able to go for like this first camping.
The 2025 season has officially begun and I have a feeling we're gonna spend a whole lot of nights in this tent. I hope you enjoy this day and you're gonna enjoy the shit out of tomorrow as well. But my evening wasn't over just yet. As I peeked out of my tent, I was greeted by a breathtaking surprise. The Northern Lights dancing across the sky.
A beyond perfect ending of a perfect day. Safe to say the bar is set high for my adventures this year. Oh, good morning. It's bright. Waking up to the sound of the waves and the seagulls. It's nice.
Oh, and I see some sun out there. Today is gonna be another good day. Hot. Oh, what a morning. The sun is just about to disappear behind the little mountain here. So I'm gonna get my ass going, pack up, and then get back on the road.
It's about nine o'clock now, I think. If I were to take the fastest route home, I think I'd be home in just over an hour. So I'm not far from home at all, and still all the beautiful roads we rode yesterday. And oh, it's just what a fantastic backyard. And such a nice reminder that you don't have to go so far to have a night like this, have experiences like this.
And the Northern Lights last night, oh my god. I can't remember ever having seen Northern Lights like that so far south before. I was born up in northern Norway, and we lived further north for quite some time, and Northern Lights up there were common every winter, you know, and much sharper, much more intense than what we had last night here.
But still, seeing that last night was so cool, and the pictures turned out pretty, pretty good, I think. I don't want it to end, but tomorrow it's supposed to be like six degrees and rain again, so there's no use being on the road for a whole lot longer anyway. And also, I am closing in on my 1000 kilometers. The bike is still brand new and needs the first service, and I have passed 800 kilometers. So let's just chalk this up as much as we possibly can. And up into the mountains we go.
Wow. It's too bad it's too windy to fly my drone a lot. Oh.
That is the smallest ferry I have ever seen. Nice. I refuse to go a day like this without ice cream, so let's see if we can score some ice cream here. Success. I'm not done with the sun yet for today.
All good things must come to an end, and that includes this weekend. Holy shit, it's been nice. Oh, I'm gonna finish up my evening here on the terrace of the cabin that I've been renting for the past few months. Just going through some footage and having some tea from my very discreet mug that I got from Leonor, queen of fucking everything or something.
It's perfect size as well. I don't know what else there is to say. The season has officially started. It was freaking awesome. I hope you enjoyed it.
I hope that you've been out on the bike, and I hope that this is the standard of the weather this season. Holy smokes, that would be nice. Not too warm, not too cold. What else is there to say? My plans this year are still a little bit up in the air.
I have a few things that I know for sure that I'm going to do. I'm going to the ABR, that's one, and that's the only thing I know for sure that I'm going to do, but I'm pretty sure that I will spend the summer mostly riding here in Norway. There's still a whole lot more left that I want to see and explore and do, and Norway is still my favorite country to travel in. Only thing I know is that there's going to be a lot of writing that I know for sure, and I hope you want to come along for it. Yeah, I think that's it.
Thank you, and I'll see you soon. Bye!
