It is currently 3:30pm here at the imperial palace moat in Tokyo Today we will be going across half of Japan to the southmost Shinkansen station of Kagoshima-Chuo station There is no direct Shinkansen from Tokyo to Kagoshima So I will be performing what is called a Shinkansen Relay The first half will be done using the JR Tokaido-Sanyo Shinkansen in first class from Tokyo to Kobe. Then on the remainder of the journey, we will hop on to the Sanyo Kyushu Shinkansen in first-class to Kagoshima Chuo station Today's journey will cover 1500km (930 miles) of rail. For those that can’t conceptualize the idea of a 1500km (930 mile) journey, here is are some examples. For American folks, that’s the distance equivalent from Seattle to San Fransisco.

For the European folks, that’s the distance equivalent from Paris to Italy. For the Australian folks that's the distance equivalent from Gold coast to Melbourne For the aliens out there that’s 1.585501e-10 light-years. Oh and I’m riding on the first-class seats as I worry for my mental integrity Now sit back and relax as we head to the station Enjoy This is where our journey starts Tokyo Station This is our schedule HIKARI (Tokyo 16:03 - Shin-Kobe 19:11) SAKURA (Shin-Kobe 19:19 - Kagoshima Chuo 23:20) But first I must prepare for my journey Let's get stuff the station did not have big bottled water so im going to a near by convinent store Ok we got our first item W a t o r 2L just in case Lets head back to the station and buy some food which one should I choose I can't choose someone help me Now its time to board First, we will be boarding the Hikari 519 There are 2 Shinkansen types on the Tokaido Shinkansen line The N700a and the New Flagship N700s Looks like we pulled the jackpot the new N700s Totally not planned Let's head into the first class green class car where is my seat where is my seat This is my seat Seat D We will discuss why we booked this seat later For now, let's discuss the fees for this trip This 7 hour ride will cost 40,000JPY ($350USD) JR pass (foreigner rail pass) green users can ride the same train ride for $0 Looks like our extreme 7 hour journey has begun 7 hours Hoping for my best For those that are waiting for a seat review Please wait for another video we will soon be arriving at atami station (16:39) We are close to our first sightseeing spot Mount Fuji But the sightseeing is not there No Mount Fuji Unlucky departing atami station (16:40) Let's eat our first snack here Freshly off the convenient store racks Katsu Sando Or Pork Cutlet Sandwich (360yen) Looks like a mistakenly chose the curry-flavored item It's fine as long as it's good It's good it even looks better with sunlight Let's eat the other half Goodbye sandwich See you on the other side Shizuoka Station (17:02) ??? There's literally a cutting board on the roof of that building ??? departing shizuoka station (17:07) The sun is beginning to set what the hecko Did the sun just rise DID THE SUN JUST RISE Where are we now Passing through a carpet of rice patties This isn’t really a hint This could be anywhere in Japan we are arriving at hamamatsu (17:27) We will make a short 4 mins stop here Not sure what to do Let's just stare at this skyscraper These trains are too fast Good bye Hamamatsu (17:31) Now we are passing a fishing location We are now closing in to the heart of Japanese car manufacturing The home town of Toyota and also the birthplace of many Japanese cuisines, N a g o y a (18:01) we will stop here for a few mins departed Nagoya (18:03) The sun has officially set 30 mins later we arrive at The old capital and a city currently facing bankruptcy, Kyoto (18:37) The loss of international tourism hit them real hard This train will stop for another 6 mins (18:43) and head to the next station of Osaka (18:57)t Shin Kobe Station (19:11) time to pack up our next train will arrive in 7 mins (19:19) thanks N700s for the comfortable ride 19:19 It has 8 cars instead of the 16 like the HIKARI service My next train is here This is the SAKURA 571 It’s their N700 series Max speed of 300km/h a Hopefully, we get to experience its full potential Let's enter the First Class green class car These are the first-class green car seats A 2+2 Configuration It's actually quite different from what we just rode Not in terms of seating but from the exclusivity standpoint There are only 24 seats compared to the 200 seats on the Tokaido Shinkansen Some may like the exclusivity but I prefer more seats as it can become crowded in rush hour. I think it's a good time to eat dinner Here we go Chicken bento (500JPY) Not so Freshly off the convenient store racks I'm sure it will taste good still from the left we have a soft boiled egg 4 pieces of Karaage (Japanese fried chicken) Mashed Potato Japanese mixed rice with edamame beans Its taste good Another piece soft boiled egg great theres also a pasta mattress hiding under the chicken Thank you for the meal 3 more hours to go Where are we Where are we What did that say Tokuyama?? (20:57) We are at Tokuyama We have yet to enter Kyushu For the meantime We are going to revive my tired body with some taichi Let's begin What’s that even taichi Who knows I feel better though Hakata station (21:41) we have made it to Kyushu you can kinda see the shinkansen from the reflections off the buildings 1 MORE HOUR TO GO Kumamoto station (22:22) Everyone that was on the first-class car Is gone I'm all alone now ALL ALONE Theres no one hiding right good Truly a solo adventure from this point on What do we have outside what a nice looking wall ‘We are nearing the Kagoshima Chuo terminal’ Kagoshima-Chuo station (23:20) My 1500km (930 mile) journey is finally coming to an end it is offically over What I learned from this 7 hour travel is that There is a limit to what a Shinkansen first-class seat can offer in terms of comfort It would be cool to see the revival of sleeper trains in Japan Please JR, please Other the other hand, I am once again grateful for this opportunity. I got to eat great food, enjoy some nice scenery, and most of all, learn how to master taichi. Thank you Shinkansen Thank you Kagoshima Chuo And thank you for watching now I need to find my hotel See you next time
