what's that flopping around in there it's sea lines or something yeah I think so it is it is it's sea lions in our last couple of episodes we took y'all to the forest area of this chiloway island and we gave you a little glimpse of the Pacific Ocean but in this episode we have made it to the east side of the island time to give y'all a little Chilean culture we are about to go tour some fishing villages are you excited Kurt I love a fishing culture I love a fishing Village and there I think it's going to be some artisanal stuff along the way and some cool historical churches as well yeah I think we're about to start a pretty interesting little stretch this Loop to finish up this island but first things first we're both hungry and we gotta get some food want to just sit here at a bar choices choices come into this little marketplace where it's like food stalls we picked our seat and now we got to pick our food what do you think Kurt well it's so this is a little market area there's all sorts of food stall here and it looks like the menu is fairly typical like a grilled or fried salmon or what was the other one Mark it's a white fish it's like a Hague marzulla or something I think and uh but they have all the meat the lamb all that stuff so yeah so I'm excited we're in a little fishing Village all right Snow's got a little grilled chicken and it looks like they have breast with some rice oh and here comes mine look at this wow all right after a yummy lunch we're gonna do a little shopping at the artisanal Market and possibly on the menu there are some warm socks snow got some she's been wearing in the van the van the van floor is cold so nice woolly socks might be cool we've seen these in a lot of different places but they're a little sort of wicker or straw Birds rumor has it there used to be a witch culture here I don't know any of the facts other than an hour up the road there's a witch tour you can do I did put it on our list because it's 100 in Spanish zero English but here you go look at the little balls of yarn in there A Little Canoe I guess I'm guessing all this is wool foreign kind of itchy [Music] so they have they got the skin the hide on that side and then look inside they got actually like Lamb's wool yeah and these are nine thousand so about nine dollars you gonna get them yeah no necessito for me foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] choosing [Music] to this time please [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] did you light a day [Music] foreign [Music] observations about this little Bay up out here first of all there are a lot of different types of fishing boats and some of them maybe not even fishing boats I'm not sure what they are some are loaded with supplies maybe going to these islands so that land mass across the way is an island and there are a lot of islands around this island of Chile that we are on right now but also there's a lot of birds out there different types of seabirds and there's also sea lions and snow says the albatross out there are attacking the sea lions and I don't know I can see tons of bait fish in the water but I think there's just a lot of bait fish in there and I think all the sea lions are just circling and just gorging on food and then the birds are looking for little bits and pieces that are left over there's sea lions out there just going absolutely crazy haha it's time Snow's excited she loves to shoot some seals I could sit here and watch these sea lions all day long and the birds fishing right beside them and then throwing fish I mean it's just absolutely amazing so prepare for a little bit of sea lion or seal we have to figure out which ones these are bird and boat overload it is indigenous and it's away so to park our van along here our butt was sticking out in the road a little bit so we didn't think we'd be able to stay the night but there are three parallel parking spots up there I turned around the van is gone but I look 100 feet down the road and it looks like Kurt has scored us a parallel spot I think we're gonna be able to stay the night right here all right here's the water all the boats the nice walkway and right there Kurt is about to get us parked he's still working on it but he is about to get it this thing isn't always easy to park he's doing a jam up job lesbian well again oh that'd be perfect for her she'd love that is it big enough how much is it is it wool though foreign [Music] so we've noticed from being in this town and going visiting the artisanal markets that this is definitely a wool sewing knitting uh yarn making thread making fiber making region it's definitely in all the artisanal markets I got me a pair of those shoes and you can see here they have some sort of little thing for spinning the yarn I think Selby might be [Music] thank you oh those are the Mack Daddy slippers right there oh guys it doesn't take snow too long nope too small trolls thank you [Music] woodpeckers kingfisher bird we've seen that we've seen that one we've seen that one and if you guys have watched all our videos you've seen them all too so snow and I are walking around this cool little town and it's definitely an artsy town in addition to all the markets it's a cool little town right snow what do you think of this place well I think it's beautiful if it's down on the waterfront and all the artists it's definitely a Haven for artist type people in their lifestyle I think but it's also famous for a really old cool Church there are a lot of these really old churches scattered all over the island of Chile and the surrounding smaller Islands almost every island that was inhabited ever even if it's not inhabited now has a church what's significant about these churches is they're wooden and they have survived the test of time [Music] [Music] would go through my head holding my head hold my hand holding my head [Music] pretty cool isn't it [Music] [Music] good morning from the coolest little fishing town in Genoa that we've been to so far anyway we woke up this morning had our coffee and I couldn't stand it it had to come outside and enjoy this one more time before we leave I think we are going to have some lunch here so Kurt can try the chinoan cheetah way specialty it's a seafood dish but then we'll be leaving this beautiful little place headed for some more Coastal Adventures some places just feel special this is one of them Serato we found a restaurant that could serve the famous chiloan dish that I cannot remember the name of Toronto Toronto and it's Seafood so only Kurt's going in on it because it's gonna have fish and mussels and holy cow oh my God this is really hot because it's steamed so this would be for all the shells of these mussels and clams and I think there's sausage and potato I don't know what's all in here I'm gonna have to cut it open oh you're okay with some little empanadas I am overwhelmed so I'm super excited to try this you better move that bowl off of there when you open that up yeah I know I don't know how to do this this is gonna be maybe I just take the top out and eat a little out of them no you gotta let it crash open the potatoes are on the bottom okay I'll put the Empanada things on the salad plate and just open that thing up these are a little soggy they're not just like uh they're weird here come your lemons how do I open this yeah see that food was absolutely amazing the muscles and the clams or delicioso they were sweet and they were tender and then the big old bowl full of food also had a chorizo which was quite tasty and it had a little pork chop which actually was a bit dry it had a piece of chicken a thigh to be specific wasn't great and then it had a potato which I didn't eat but those mussels and those clams and that sausage were delicious I devoured it all and then afterwards we had a coffee and some strawberries and cream which was to die for and all the while in the background we had the sea this beautiful little Bay I believe it's the dalkawa canal and there were seals of course floundering around everywhere there were all sorts of seabirds some that we hadn't seen yet a couple really cool black-headed swans they cruise by and yeah we just sat there and watched the seals Feast while we feasted and it was really kind of a magical spot we had a corner spot with Windows second floor it was a nice place wasn't It Snow Yeah I think we were quickly falling in love with this little this the culture of this little town but all good things do come to an end we will have to leave here but I think we're going to be sticking along the coast for a couple of more days at least but this place if you ever come to Chile come out to the island and come to this town I would I would say chill away island is definitely a place to go and it's actually starting to sprinkle a little bit we've had perfect weather out here so we're gonna have to go take cover in the van pretty even in the rain this is still beautiful so I got me a wool beanie hat with a little fuzz ball up on the top in one of my favorite colors turquoise okay there's actually two Kingfishers one right there on that boat and then look on the back corner of the turquoise boat I gotta go get Kurt because I'm right by the van all right Kurt was too deep into his editing to come out and uh see the Kingfishers but he did hand me the big camera so you get to see a few shots of them just sitting there two of them hanging out on the boats I waited for a little while thinking that one was gonna jump in uh get him a fish but he never flew and that's okay because they're just cool to watch the alkaway is a town of about 15 000 residents here on the island of Chile it's in the Lago District of the island I would think maybe about 5 000 people according to the latest statistics actually live right here in the urban part of the town the other 10 000 or so people they live on the outskirts of town now it is easy to see that fishing is the main economic driver of this town fishing boats everywhere lots of Dock Workers lots of boat workers lots of boat captains and lots of pretty cool looking boats but they're also putting a tourism spin on this little town now that the island of Chile is kind of focused on tourism I'm not sure exactly when but at our last Camp Martine told us they now bring three flights from Santiago a day that land in the city just south of this town called Castro and that is to start driving tourism for this beautiful place now there are birds here too many to count so many different kinds some just plain seagulls but still getting to sit here and be so close to them and watch their little personalities as they eat and fight and dive bomb the seals a couple of black-headed swans definitely some Kingfishers that come out during high tide to do some fishing all kinds of little little birds flying around and then of course the star of the channel here the South American Fur seal now you can find these seals everywhere along the coast down here in South America starting up at the paracas peninsula in Peru and we went there it's the first time we saw penguins we saw the Humboldt Penguins there but we did not see any of these seals they go all along the coast down through Chile around the cape up Argentina's Coast where we saw many of them all the way up through Uruguay where they actually have more than any other place it's where they have the most dense population is in Uruguay and they even make it up along the southern coast of Brazil but these guys they eat sardines mainly and other small fish but in this area along through here they're also known to eat Crustaceans crabs lobsters all sorts of things and we have had fun watching them do their fishing it looks like they're playing and I think they might be but they'll come up and they'll toss a fish and they'll throw it around some sort of technique maybe to bust it up and make it easier to eat but it looks like they're playing a game of catch [Music] sadly well not sadly I guess the population has to be maintained they guess that there's about 450 000 South America sea lions down here oh and they also are found out in the islands off of the Southeast coast of Argentina so not just along the coast the islands too but they are eaten by large male sea lions sharks and orcas so they're not safe and sound when they're out in the open water but it has been amazing to sit here and watch them I think there's kind of a love hate relationship with the fishermen when I was researching this town a little bit the the sea lions are not the sea lions the seals they do kind of inhibit the fishing they tear up the Nets but they're also so dang cute and you'll see the fishermen toss them a fish it's been a very relaxing couple of days here if you like this video be sure to subscribe to our Channel and hit that notification Bell so you guys know when we put out new
