Japanese Girl Lets Me Pet Her Meerkat - Bike Touring Japan #12
I believe they give. Oh, it's damn cold, man. How's it feel? So cool. It's like a little little dog. It's so cute. You can give it a rub on the head and everything.
Yeah, this is the room right here. This is the suite. Residential. Look at that hot tub.
Oh, my gosh, that's exactly what we don't want. Fabian, look who it is. The Brompton is back.
Yeah, totally in one piece. Yeah. Back for round two? Yeah, I guess so.
We're getting on our way. We're all packed up. As you can see, Nick T is here. You join me, Mihal and Goh, if you're watching.
Thank you so much for letting us stay here. Vincent and Charlotte, everybody, man, you guys are wonderful. We had an amazing time. I was only going to stay a day or two. I ended up staying for nine days.
I should tell you how awesome it is here. Thank you so much. Goodbye. Let's go, Samuel. Let's go. Oh, don't get hit.
All right. On the road again. Can't wait to be on the road again. My love is making music my friend. That's what I'm talking about.
Finally out of the city a bit back in the countryside. I got this nice river to to ride along from here. We're going to go have a bite to eat because from here, it looks like we're going to have to do some climbing. So I'm going to go feel the belly, get some energy, rest up and then hit the mountain.
Mm hmm. Okay, now that's alright. Now that there's food in front of our face, it's alright. We were looking at places to go eat for lunch, and found this place. All pictures of this.
We were like, yeah, we gotta go eat this. Got to. We showed up about an hour ago.
Exactly an hour ago. So we had a little bit of a wait, but it's alright now, we got food in front of us. We went with the chicken katsu, tei shoku, and salt. I love tei shoku.
Tei shoku is the best thing in Japan. A lot of times when people ask me, like, what do you miss, like, what Japanese food do you miss in Japan? I always just say tei shoku because you get a little bit of rice, the miso soup, the pickles, the salad, and then whatever the main protein dish is, and it's always served on a tray. And it's always, most of the time, Thank you very much. it's going to be delicious.
This is like a parmesan salad too. Usually it's just like cabbage. This one is great. The Japanese barbecue sauce right here is good.
Yeah, that's it. It's so good. That's it. It's so good.
What can I try? Do you eat it? I eat it nice. It's so good. It's so good. Thank you.
Thank you. Thank you. Nice and full, nice and stuffed, and yeah, very nice. I think people, when they see the bikes and we tell them what we're doing, they always want to like lend, I don't know, a helping hand by giving us food or whatever, and so they gave us some sweets.
Yay! Yeah, let's go. Godiva. Good stuff too. Actually, I could use, I got a sweet tooth right now, I'm going to dig in. Yeah. Okay.
Thank you. Thank you. You're welcome. Thank you. Thank you.
You hear that? What was that? I don't know. Something. Maybe a monkey. There's got to be something in there. We have been on this amazing road now for probably 20 minutes or so.
They are doing some construction back there, which kind of sucks, but it's quiet. We're in the middle of the forest right here. Huge pine trees.
No traffic. This is what I'm talking about. I wish it was like this the entire time.
Going through the cities can be a little exhausting. This is nice. we are finally kind of at that time of the year when it's kind of getting warmer we finally sweat a lot and cold -ass water will probably feel good we can rinse off it's been too cold lately refreshing again we've seen one maybe two cars on this road Welcome to Suduga. What do they have here? I have no idea.
We'll figure that out. Some chugokurame. So there's none. Chuka soba. Chinese style soba maybe. Nick just went inside and got us some interesting beers here.
Chuka soba. This is like a fancy premium beer here. It even has instructions on how to open it here. Yeah, a little interesting top here. I don't know. Wow, okay.
I don't know why. That's different. Not a harmonize. Let me make sure I'm doing this right. Okay. Maybe not.
Maybe not. Oh, oh, oh. I think I got it. Bam.
Oh, keep going. Well, welcome to Suduga. First impressions of Suduga, Nick. What do you think? It's a nice little town. Nice little town for sure.
A lot more going in here than anything else that we've passed so far. Sorry. It's been pretty dead the entire way here for sure. I mean, it's a small town, small port city.
Not a whole lot going on here either, but there are cars. We're outside of a mall even. We stopped by this place because I don't know.
I just felt like eating outside. Kind of like a good idea. You don't really see places like this in Japan. Like all over Indonesia, Malaysia, Taiwan, probably other places in Asia. People eating outside, right? Yeah. In Tokyo, maybe like in some areas.
I think Osaka has a lot more. Oh, do they? Yeah, I think so. Okay, but it just doesn't, I don't know. You don't really see this a whole lot, I don't feel like. It's still pretty. freakin coming man oh yeah like I said small port town it's clean it's nice we're gonna have some ramen and then find a park or a beach and sleep but for now we're gonna eat some ramen oh yeah it's good we got the old morning look at me noodles are in there damn so this is the most interesting the oldest I've ever been to my life so yeah when you come in a lady will take your your money nobody's here by the way it's just us and so this is an old -school sento old school this is built in the 1920s How'd you like to have her job just huh, how would you like to have her job? Good morning from a kind of a drizzly and dreary morning here in Suribah, so they got This is where we called home last night Not too bad.
I got plenty of good sleep Right over here by the by the bay It's kind of cool because it looks like it's almost like a lake. You can see how it wraps around over there kind of tucked in here pretty good, but You know, it's it's to see Absolutely. No waves. It's just it's very very still We came came here last night after the the onsen Over there. There's a forest. There's a bunch of like no camping signs and whatnot and It's kind of unfortunate cuz you know, there's a beautiful forest over there, but I walked over here There's a huge parking lot.
It looks like maybe a baseball field or something No signs over here fortunately, so Posted up here. I mean even over there. I don't think people would really care You know, we set up really late at night. We wake up early. We break them down and we're on our way. So Let's start with this sausage bread I still can't believe they give Shit oh my gosh Oh Wow What is it with me and me and bird that's it's a hawk just like the one in India yeah from the back yeah at least he didn't get my eyes like the one in India wow that's kind of how it works at Enoshima as well really they come out of nowhere yeah let's go to the gazebo that's safer let's don't want to get our eyes gouged out by hawks oh my gosh I think we have a much safer place to eat our breakfast well they might they might try to come in here too you never know that's the first time that they've ever got you though no no in Enoshima they took a bunch of bread from me before like was it just sit on the ground no no it was in my hand and then smashed me in the like temple I thought I could somebody punch me it was that powerful yeah yeah But then it was just like a bird.
Well yours is gone. So here's mine. Yeah This is all that's left of that one. Yeah. Yeah, so you ripped it in half split in half and they took half of it Yeah Wow Now go ahead man. This is the one that you bought though Yeah, we'll split the remaining and up there were like four pieces now.
There's two Wow, he just snatched it right out. Luckily. He didn't get your hand at all. Nothing.
Nothing is a perfect perfect snatch Uh -huh, and there's another hawk right there on top of the flagpole Scoping us out. Yep But So they do have signs here warning you that there are crows and hawks here that'll steal your food Look at those happy or negative You see this Yeah, look how scared they are Gonna agree purple purple purple purple and pink But you see a lot of these kind of Toyotos in Hey, hey, hey in Japan look like a big loaf of bread almost. Hey and what people do they kind of customize them out and You know, you have so much space in there to do whatever you want. This one's doing looks like a little dog kennel. Hey Yeah, okay, you know It's a golden doodle, standard doodle.
Another golden doodle? Golden doodle? That's a golden doodle. That's the second golden doodle we've seen. This one's a white one, though.
Oh, little leash on the neck. I have to ask him more. Oh my gosh. What's your name? My name is Yoon. Yoon's name? Your name is Yoon's name? Yoon's name is Yoon's name? Yoon's name is Yoon's name? Yoon's name is Yoon.
What's your name? Nice to meet you. Nice to meet you. Hey, oh yeah, you're a nice one. And before we get on the road, gotta get me a little O -niggety. Today I'm going with the Omerice. mmm okay the omurais, omusubi, egg, chicken, onion and ketchup mmm doesn't that sound good today we're heading to Kyoto and we're gonna pass by Biwako big lake here in Japan finally opened up got a beautiful beautiful road here it's nice look at that clouds rolling off the hills over there cruising through the rice patties you see how she laughed she's like dude are you kidding me hell no get out of much you don't look at this nice little home here yeah exactly yeah I guess it's the same story everywhere different village same story just let quiet bunch of old people really that's it wow nice she's like yeah punched over you know face to her knees That's why you see a bunch of just old people walking around hunchback here in Japan and Yeah, I got a taste of it the other day when we were planting rice out there like bending over I could feel it in my back.
He did that shit every single day for years. I Would shrink about six inches and then be walking parallel to the ground They even have a church out here check it out You can't tell how small it is from this angle, let me show you Yeah, that's the church Looks like be whitey Be whitey Be whitey be whitey, I think we made it to the cycling road of Bila Bila co Still can't see it though Let's get out of this podunk town we made it lake abiwa the largest lake hey the largest lake in all of japan oh bad idea those guys are eating water right now oh my gosh yep and so yeah looks like this is one of them lakes where you can get out on jet skis and boats and uh have a little fun do some some uh water activities most lakes in japan are just desolate you know just like everything else they're really quiet you don't see anybody out there on boats besides people fishing maybe but here looks like you can go out and have a little fun and uh yeah i imagine here at biwako too there's gonna be tons of abandoned hotels and houses and things like this all around the lake and so this is our first one we've uh spotted it looks like it's been abandoned for quite some time actually is it a hotel is it a residence yeah i think it's a hotel let's see if we can uh go for a little little stroll i guess this is this is where the security and staff would would work got some flag poles here i'm guessing yeah looks like there's units back there too probably a grand old entrance when it used to be wow still got the chandeliers hanging I guess this would be the front desk maybe? No, they've got a couple of tables. Maybe this was the restroom.
Not the restroom. This is the restaurant. We've got a bathroom.
Okay. This was the cafeteria, the restaurant. Oh, that's in its prime, I guess. Yeah, 1999. Look nice. Yeah.
Shame. It's a relic. It is a shame. 1999, 18. This place was plush. Here we go.
This is the front. They brought in, looks like they brought in a bunch of steel beams here. Again, this looks recent.
Maybe somebody did buy the property in there. Trying to renovate it here This looks like fresh concrete to Maybe something you tried to renovate it and then abandoned it again probably it's probably exactly what happened And so Which kind of sucks you don't get to see it how it used to be They kind of gutted it And a lot of times that is my only worry here when I Explore abandoned buildings is I just do not want to find a dead body. I do not want to Walk into a crime scene anywhere Yeah, this is the room right here. This is the suite residential Nice hot tub killer view Mm -hmm There is a piano can you play a tune Wow, okay Looks like you have the main hotel over here, but over to the left you have a few cottages and the door wide open Fabian a little nail, but I don't think it drew blood a nail. Yeah this oh Gosh It went right through your foot, right through your sandal.
Yeah, but I don't think it stabbed my foot very good. It's a little bleeding. Good.
No tetanus. But it did shoot right through the sole, huh? It's pretty big. Just gonna move that over. Yikes. All right, in this place.
Better watch out a bit. I'm gonna step where you stepped from now on. Yeah, nice rustic feeling here. Nice western -style fan.
Feels like a little house on the prairie. Yeah. Definitely has an aged feel to it, though. Like, this is something out of the 80s and 90s. You all right? Yeah, just checking.
All right, all right. Let's get out of here. I don't think there's much to see. Haven't had my tetanus shot in a while, so... empty kind of dead and it sounds like this that I don't quite understand no camping, no fireworks, no just don't do anything here don't do anything out here we don't want people here we want this place absolutely dead exactly it's like that place that only wants dogs to stay at their hotel yeah dude this is awesome what is that? these things are deteriorating sorry, you want to come out here and camp? I mean it's a beautiful place, look at this it is beautiful amazing see, thank you wow that looks good that looks really good yum thank you so what do you do when you come to Biwako? you look for the only place open and it just so happened to be this Indian food restaurant Raju and it looks pretty good yum yeah it looks tasty thank you Raju doing what the sea said you got some tandoori chicken too hum samosa good idea yeah alright and we had to put the umbrella up because there's hawks flying around us and we want to protect ourselves I want to get got again no and then when you do see a beautiful home I think it's only appropriate to stop and acknowledge there's a couple of them right here well done nice garden nice lawn big windows well done there we go got a nice view of it now pretty cloudy day though you can still see to the other side I don't know if you guys can see but you can see the mountain on the other side of the lake I guess it's still a little too early there's not a whole lot of a lot of action out there I'm sure during the summertime during July and August this place is pretty pretty happening I'd like to think at least all right so we found a little campsite we're not gonna stay here because it's a paid campsite we're just gonna check it out but I just want to take a take a little stroll through here and see what people are working with see what it's like it looks nice but the guy at the front was like yeah you can go around but yeah make sure you come right back out he made it very clear that this is a paid campsite definitely some car camping nice Thank you very much So today is Friday Around 3 p .m. So I'm sure a lot of people coming out here For the weekend, but it is pretty fun on the weekends.
A lot of people come out here and barbecue and Swim and you know do all that lake fun stuff Yeah, you know, it's paid so you're gonna have proper like sinks and toilets and Those kind of amenities out here And that's the next question Nick how much do you think it is to camp here more I'll say over under Sengo yaku and over over under 580 they're going away under okay Okay, I think it's more than 1 ,000 One night nice and he told me that so nice and nice and okay Yeah I'm gonna turn the camera off. I was like I think we're way off. I bet it's way more than that He was like, yeah, you're right.
It's probably like nice. It's like 2 ,000. Sure enough. It's 2 ,000 a person just to put a tent up. I think we can do better Or just as good for free All right back on the course and that's obviously why you see a lot of no camping signs everywhere because they want you to come to a place like this where it's controlled and Somebody is making some money off of it This has been a very interesting stretch of uh road right here on this side of b -way you know you see like like we've seen you know just a bunch of abandoned houses of course but you also see just a bunch of just like not yet junk this isn't junk right here this is this is what caught my eye and what made me want to stop you know we got a a hummer right here we have a chevrolet truck a huge ford what's that a land cruiser over there there's three el caminoes but you just kind of see a bunch of random junk everywhere oh there's a suburban back there a huge dodge ram that they made into some sort of food truck it looks like an impala are you kidding me that's fucking badass right there though that's definitely running maybe all the other stuff not so much but it's just weird you know the road itself is super clean and nice There are some rough patches in the bike course every now and then, but just on the sides of the road, you just see a bunch of just randomness, just a bunch of stuff that people have just tossed, don't know what to do with, and yeah, it's just strange, it's very odd out here. And I mentioned this earlier in one of my previous videos about the car inspections and how expensive they are.
It's really expensive if you have a foreign car, and so most of those cars probably aren't running because it's just the fact that you'd have to get them inspected, and that would cost you a lot of money. And of course you already know how to do it, it feels so good, we did 100k today, exactly 100, from Suruga to a town called Otsu next to Biwako. And I had to go take a dip in the hot, hot water. From here, we don't really know what we're going to do.
Nick's offered us to put us up in a hotel, mainly because it's been kind of miserable today. I mean it's been an awesome day overall, but just the weather has just been dreary, wet, not really raining, just mist in your face. All day, all day, all day, non -stop, it's been pretty rough. I mean, just when you think, oh, it's over, because that's what the weather forecast has too, like okay it's going to do this for another hour, it's going to be, then it's going to clear up, no, it just keeps coming, keeps coming. But it kind of looks like clears guys, hopefully.
Kinda. Kinda. Who knows? Who knows, man. But we're all showered up, sawned up, is that even a word? And feeling good, now we figure out what we want to do.
