Hello. Hello. Good evening all of you beautiful people out there. Whenever and where ever you might be watching, we're back with another one.
This time we are still in Suzhou, the beautiful paradise city on the east of China. In front of me right now is a spectacle. This is absolutely epic. So if you guys have watched the previous vlog, you know what I'm talking about. This is such A giant structure.
It's 301 meters tall. Suzhou is a beautiful, beautiful city. It's blowing all our expectations. Like the buildings here, gorgeous.
This whole display keeps changing. This is the Gate of the Orient also known as the Gate of the East. Welcome to Suzhou. Thank you! We have met some fans here. in Suzhou nice to meet you guys are you from Suzhou? yes yeah we are from here! ohh brilliant I love this city music fountain over there music fountain here right and it's so many people? it's over packed wow and do the fountains only go on during Friday Saturday Sunday? on the weekend just over the weekend... during the national holidays yeah it was every day? That's beautiful.
Almost everything. And then there are people from all over the country coming here to watch this. They had it last night Yes yes No! We missed it were thinking maybe will it be tonight, but no. I think we need to come back for this. Yes,
for sure... When did you arrive? We came here a few days ago. So we have been in Suzho for a few days. We are absolutely loving it. If you have time you can walk around the lake the lakeside walk.
Okay, you can go this way. That's what we were showing you guys in the previous vlog as well, like Suzhou is such a gorgeous city. No wonder why people say it is heaven up there, Suzhou down here. Love it. Guys, we made it to the next stop. So take a quick look at this, I'm gonna go just down the side here.
Look at where we are. So we came out to Shantang Street, which is beautiful. If you can see down here, this is where all the canal is, and then it's got buildings on both sides, and it's lit up. It's beautiful. We've got lanterns on the side, we've got lights, we've got the boats as well. It is
absolutely beautiful, but it's so busy up here. There's lots of people in this one little area trying to get the best pictures, so I'm gonna go this side. and see, look at this.
This looks absolutely stunning. Wow, we've got the bridge straight up as well. Oh my goodness, this is beautiful. And all the people are just along this side as well.
You can take a boat ride I think too, which is amazing. I think we're gonna like this for sure, but this street is Super, super popular, you guys. Very busy right now as well. And actually 3.5 kilometres in length apparently. So
we've got some walking on our hands to do, but I can see Taz right now is taking a quick photo. This is so gorgeous. Wow. OK, I'm so glad we came here at night.
And of course, our little pal here, he's super excited as well. My sentiments are very much like that kid as well. Super excited. Why not? This looks gorgeous. We are going to go down these stairs right now, probably, and go and see if we can join in on the action.
Absolutely. It is a bit crazy out here. It's not even the national week anymore, guys, but the action continues here in China. There's no place, no city, that's literally everywhere you go. If
you guys haven't been to China, trust me, pick anywhere. Pick any city. any town in China go out at night especially firstly mega safe proper family environment everywhere as well and it comes to life at night with all the lights on it's literally a party atmosphere everywhere you go nice clean pristine and with a lot of lights And a lot of vibes! Ooh, I'm excited for this! Right, that view back there was definitely one of the peak spots to come and capture all your pictures.
Again, it's super popular to rent out a Hanfu to get all dressed up with your makeup and then to go and take your beautiful pictures here like a real life fairy tale in Suzhou. I love it, wow! The entire street is lined up with these beautiful lamps on both sides so this is Shantang Street? yes Shan Teng Street and hopefully it is going to be packed with a lot of options for culinary delights okay what is this? I think this is where you line up for your boat ride I like these little pillars very nice... one way of attracting the crowds our favourite Mixue But right now it's time for dinner, so we will carry on and get something to eat.
In the meanwhile, let's show you guys Shantang Street and what Suzhou looks like at night, because this came highly recommended it did. If you guys did not know, then Shantang Street is Suzhou's best ancient street, the most popular as well, and it's got over 1100 years of history to it. So I'm excited to check it out. Like I said, it stretches 3.5 kilometres. 1100 years of history, eh? Yeah, it's got 1100 years of history. So
you can, I reckon these used to be maybe like some residential. Maybe up here was residential. Down here was all trade, bustling, busy with all of the custom, the business. Got some clothes out here. I don't think these are for hire. These are to sell.
This is silk. Oh, speaking of. I heard the silk industry in Suzhou goes as far back as 8500 years. That is incredible What is this? What have you discovered? I don't know, but I saw it and it caught my attention.
This is the Guildhall for the Chamber of Commerce of Lingnan. Shall we check it out? Yeah, absolutely. What is this? Some textiles? Maybe, yeah. Is that a loom? Yeah, it's the machine they use to make... silk? Look, the silk's actually in it.
So is that the loom then? I guess so. Wow, okay. I read somewhere because I was reading something about silk and how it works and how you source and produce silk.
And it was said that one cocoon can actually make one kilometer of silk thread. Wow. We've got some dresses and outfits here. This is what we're talking about.
Some silk outfits. Here we go. I think you missed it. The main attraction was further at the back. Was it? Okay. You came into the shop I think.
Let's go. Yes. I thought that was part of the attraction. Is it not? Okay. If you go further back it shows you a bit more of like the equipment and the machinery. So there's a lot of information down there which is pretty interesting.
Okay, look at that. This is silk, right? That is soft and smooth. Okay, so this is all silk products, scarves and things. Like I was saying, Suzhou is the silk capital of the world. So
if you want any of like your beautiful dresses or some embroidery stuff done, this is the place to come and get it. Apparently. There you go, 8500 years of silk making here in Suzhou, guys. Also, it is the wedding dress capital of the world.
I had no idea about that up until we arrived in Suzhou and I think that is incredible all right on that note. Let's move on and look for something to eat. Educational, Suzhou, gorgeous. All right, moving out. Let's see what's happening.
Let's go. ohh my gosh, it smells incredible back there. We just walked past. It looked like a bakery.
It smelt like one, that's for sure. But right now, we are walking down Shantang Street. And this actually runs parallel on the right hand side. This side is the canal and this is Suzhou's part of the Grand Canal.
Now the Grand Canal stretches all the way from Beijing to Hangzhou and it passes through Suzhou and the length of it in total is 1776 kilometres, which is insane. But we are right now walking, like I said, parallel the other side of this shop here, this restaurant. And this shop is the Suzhou Canal.
Wow. So we're walking along with a lot of history right here. There's a lot of shops. If you are looking for any embroidered gifts or any embroidered products for yourself, maybe souvenirs, food, anything you're going to find it in this street is probably perfect. This looks pretty cool as well.
I don't know what we have over here, but look, give me a hand. Wow, he's doing something there. I'm not too sure what, but probably something super, super sweet. We've got these little, like kind of like a tricycle thing, right? Where you can go and sit on the bike and somebody rides you around on the bike.
Maybe the traditional way of getting around beforehand. Look at this fish lantern. Beautiful though, isn't it? I love the decorations out here. Speaking off. That's the squirrel fish.
Oh, this one. Oh, it's even here. Look, this is the one.
This is the mandarin squirrel fish. Yeah. So we were thinking we're quite hungry. So maybe we might try it. We have to try it. Sorry, not might.
We definitely have to. Let me rephrase that. Yeah. But we've got different restaurants on both sides.
All these beautiful lanterns, the beautiful fish. You guys were not wrong when you told us to come here at night because when it's lit up it's so beautiful and it definitely is. It adds to the charm, it adds to the character. Look at this one! Whoa! Beautiful! It's a pagoda and a restaurant.
Oh wow! That's very pretty Is it a restaurant? I'm just guessing. You're crazy! It is really, really nice. I wonder what it is actually.
I'm not too sure, but it looks like you can go in and take a look around. Yeah, maybe it says it on this sign, but this restaurant here looks like a busy one. What's this? I guess It's CCTV 10. Speaking of, we were featured on CCTV not long ago. Is this China Television? Maybe, I don't know. They have a restaurant as well.
Okay, it says CCTV 10. Maybe they've got a restaurant as well. Okay, there's people sat out here.
People waiting inside and this entire place is a restaurant. And behind this restaurant, there's some music playing as well. I see there's a party going on over here. Let's have a look and see where the party's going on? I think it's on the other side of this thing now. Maybe it's on the boat.
Let's see, where is this music blaring? It looks like a rave. Okay, party over there. Jeez, it is, it is. I see people dancing over there. Alright, that is where we're going definitely. There are boats here.
It's nice and quiet here, but over there, the other side of the lake, there's a party. Okay. Let's go eat something first. I did not come out thinking there's going to be like a proper party kind of nightlife here. But guess what? Surprise! Suzhou, you're doing it. I've got someone who is coming up behind us on a bike. There he is.
Oh ohh my gosh Here we go. All right. So true.
You can hear my guy from a mile away. Skewers and things. Beautiful. Some fruits. This one here. It
is very, very common here on the east side of China. Yeah, crabs over here. *excessive honking* Jesus Christ. In case if you didn't hear the guy. Oh, wow. got some crabs out here? Are they alive? I don't know.
20 Yuan for one I think. Here we go. Uncle's like have a look. We want some fresh ones.
Ohh They are moving. Jesus. I think that might be like a specific dish in the area. Steamed crab, steamed seafood maybe with all the canals around. That makes sense all of a sudden. Let's get to a restaurant in three, two, one. We came to a restaurant I don't really know the name but this is it and we're gonna go and take a table of two so come with us let's go don't know what it's called but it has that fish that we want to eat so I read somewhere it's called sweet and sour fish but oh okay that is fancy here we go hello it is looking busy It's a crazy little place I think it's more of a local spot because it seems that all the tables are almost full.
This is what we're after. Yeah. OK, that seems to be the action attraction here in Suzhou. This is the sweet and sour fish. Yeah. We've got some crabs here as well. I think it's a steamed crab.
OK. And what else have we got? Prawns. Prawns. Yeah.
Got some prawns. Oh ohh Jesus, there's bits on the back as well. I heard there's tofu here as well that is very popular.
We ordered... I'm so confused how they make it look like this. Yeah, it's just come out, it's just arrived. We've got some rice. And then this is the mandarin squirrel fish. Sweet and sour.
Yeah, I mean, I am confused at the look of it. It's got shrimps on it as well. Right? It's got a little baby shrimp How do you make it like so pointy and prickly like that? I don't know. And they've got like the head and the tail like tilted upwards, both sides. So.
What's the story? My theory is they grab the head, they grab the tail, they break the spine, the bone. I don't know. And that's how all of the meat, it sticks out. Because it looks like a porcupine. It does, doesn't it? Like it looks like somebody's almost like cut the the meat out and then just like left it on top So it's got prawns or shrimps. Yeah.
And what's inside the mouth? Other than the toothpick? I think it's just the tongue, you know? I had no idea a fish has tongue. Doesn't it? Yeah, of course it does. I think it does. I don't know, guys. Do we sound silly right now? Because now we're debating whether a fish has tongue. What's that? tea? Nice.
But honestly, we have no idea how to eat this squirrel fish either, so we're just going to go for it. We got a little bit of rice with it as well. We also got some potato that we will hopefully come in a little bit.
But are you going to undo your chopsticks and dig right in? Yes. I mean, I don't know how to eat it, so I'm going to just freestyle it. Oh, that was easy. Did it just come off, right? I was going to say, I'm surprised you didn't wait.
Or blow it. It smells really nice. Oh, this might be my new favorite fish.
So it's very sweet, very sour. almost as if it's got ketchup inside and vinegar mixed together. I think the red color explains that this has to be ketchup and vinegar because that's where it gets a sweet and sour taste from. But it's so crispy on the outside.
And on the inside, it's nice and tender. It kind of looks almost like a, like you know how they do the fillet pieces? Like it looks like that. Like it looks like they've just cut it, and then left it so you can take it. Okay, this is for the final, making up my mind about what I think about this fish. Oh yeah, wow. We've got
more bits coming out. Perfect. Cheers, cheers.
Okay, potatoes arrived as well. Who wants a rating? This is a solid 9 out of 10. Ohh Simply because of the texture and the taste. Get ready.
This one is for you. This is really good. Mandarin sweet and sour fish Good right? Oh my gosh, that is delicious. Wow. We don't usually eat a lot of fish, but if it's a speciality like of an area, we will definitely give it a try. But
that is delicious. I'm going to be honest, I was a bit scared when I saw this, the tail, because I was like, what is this a puffer fish? But no, then I saw the face because it's like, hey, what's up? Do you want a kiss? I'm going to give this like a good 8.5 out of 10. I like it.
Solid, solid, solid. That is nice. Oh, it does break off like quite easy, doesn't it? It does, right? Look at that.
Sorry, I dropped it though. It's so easy to pick. They've done it for you.
It's literally there for the picking. See what I mean about the sweet and sour flavour. That is definitely ketchup. I don't know how they get the flavour otherwise and vinegar. But look.
This is how easy it is. we have some potatoes. This is definitely our favorite staple food these days.
Love it. Shall we taste test it? Please go ahead. I really love the way that they do the potatoes here as well. Like this more shredded potatoes are flavorful. They are a little spicy, but I can see you're about to pick up the chillies in it.
I have. I've got like two here. I avoid them, but that's actually really nice. Got a little bit of kick to it, but it's not too spicy.
I'm having this, by the way. Yeah, I think its chrysanthemum tea. It's really good we don't know what it is, but it's really nice actually. And
so far this dinner, I'm going to have to say it's a strong 9 out of 10 from me. It is delicious. Really nice.
We're going to tuck into this bit and then when the next bit comes out, we'll show you. So stay tuned. something else just came out.
Yeah, we have another dish over here, which is... what did you order? tofu with crab. This is, I heard, another specialty here in Suzhou. Tofu with crab. Ohh Well, it's over here, so you better stop eating and give it a try. Absolutely.
We heard that this is another, like Taz was saying, another dish that is like a must try while you're in Suzhou. And again, we don't usually eat like a lot of Crab or tofu, to be honest. More tofu than crab. Yeah, we thought we've got to give it a try.
So we ordered a pot. I didn't think it was going to be as much as this, but you're going to give it a try? Yeah. Okay, so we're used to tofu. Usually it's more so like being a bit fried or a bit crispy, right? But here in China they do it boiled. Yeah. It's almost as if like you've eaten a boiled egg.
Yeah, it's always soft, right? So we've got that one there. I'm going to go for this one. I need to go on its own. You're
going to go from just the bowl. Yeah, because that is predominantly the fish that I can taste. The sauce. It's going to be hot.
Oh, and verdict. You can taste the crab right away. Yeah. What do you rate it? Salty. I give it a 7.5 so far. Okay, not bad. The tofu's done really nicely though.
Is there like big chunks of crab? Oh yeah, there is. I can see it down here. Chunks of the meat in it as well, You're gonna like this. Guys, we're gonna tuck right in right now because I am starving. The camerawoman is not eating yet. Very good.
Actually, I did have some fish, but I'm very, very hungry, so we're gonna tuck in. Enjoy these feast here in Suzhou and we will see you in a minute. Suzhou is our new favorite city in China, by the way. So let's go.
Oh, my days. That was so good. Thank you. Bye. Bye. That was so good. Oh, that was amazing.
All right. Mind your steo as you come out Oh, can I just say that Yeah... That was officially the best fish I've ever had in my life. Whoa, how good was that? That was really, really good. I actually probably agree.
It's one of the nicest fish I've had in my life. However, it was probably one of the priciest pieces of fish, right? So it was 188 yuan. I think it was 188, just for the fish on its own. Yeah.
But it was so worth it, every single penny. And it did big enough for two people Yeah, easily. Every bite, so crunchy up top, but on the inside, it was so tender. So yum.
Love the sauce. Also, this is the name of the restaurant. This one here in Suzhou, and we translated what this bit said, and I think... They have been featured on CCTV in 2019, if our translator is correct.
Speaking of that, we were on Chinese television a few days ago on CCTV13 I guess in 2024. Yeah This street is still busy right now, there's still people up and down even behind you We've got the the monkey man, I think that's Black Myth Wukong ohh So I've been told I look like this guy here, is that correct? Is there any resemblance? I don't think so. This is the street Massge gosh, we saw this in the previous vlog as well. This looks... don't know what to make of this.
Is this relaxing or is this like cracking bones? Yeah, that's what I was thinking, you know. I was really thinking like, should I do it? But then I'm a bit... now I'm worried they might be a bit too strong for me and I might end up... No, I think they all look like they're loving it.
Hello my friend. Hello. How are you? This is good? You recommend? this is good? He's like no no no. He's like maybe not if you ask me I would say don't because it might be a bit hard. Hello. If they're not sure I'm not sure. I love like the vibes right now, like there's so much character on display.
Another little side of the canal, it's so pretty. And I really do feel like I'm in a fairy tale movie set. It's so cool, very nice. Every single person out here, well most of them at least, they all have winter clothes on. Like they've all got long sleeves, they've got long trousers, hello, hello, hello.
my friend. He looks like he's had a good night already. And it is during the week. It's not even the weekend right now guys. It's all happening here He's having a good one here in Suzhou. Look at you.
Yeah, I'm cold. You've got your jacket out. I've got my tracksuit out. So
yeah, yeah it is. getting cold. It is. I was actually just saying to Taz right now, like, I feel cold. It is getting a bit quieter now. Making sure that I dodge all of these electric bikes because they are on a mission.
Look at this though. All of them bits hanging under the tree. Beautiful.
They've got some writing in Chinese as well, guys, so maybe you guys can let us know what it says. Here we are. What does that say then? I don't know. But it looks gorgeous with the lanterns and the messages all lit up, all illuminated.
Have you had a good time in Suzhou though? I have had the best time in Suzhou, especially in the evening with it all lit up. It is just... Beautiful. Yeah, it's amazing.
Really, really cool place. Really cute city, actually quite romantic. I like it. We are now making our way back to the hotel. It is still looking busy in places.
Still people out and about considering it's gone past 10pm So that is not bad whatsoever, not as busy as it was earlier but understandable. It is a working week so people have to go back to work tomorrow morning. I've just seen some dessert in that shop. Oh baby. I am tempted.
Stop it, you're sweet tooth is shocking. I will contain myself right now as hard and challenging as that might be but guys I think We will be wrapping it up here. There's music still playing on the side, so the party's still going on. But thank you very much if you joined us this evening.
Hope you enjoyed the vlog, we had an amazing, amazing time in Suzhou. Definitely our new favorite city in China. It will forever have a special place in our hearts. Definitely not the last time we've come here, because we will be coming back again. And like we said, if and when we settle in China, Suzhou is a top contender It is you guys but if you've made it this far then thank you very much and I hope that you have enjoyed it just as much as we did but we will see you at some point somewhere in China in the next one.
Let's go!!!!
