Shaqlawa, Iraq Season 8 - Eps. 21 Good morning Internet, it is 8:30 in the morning and welcome back to the channel Welcome here in.. Shaqlawa I hope I pronounced it correctly, probably not. I'm just going to have something for breakfast And then I am moving on, if you've seen the last video I wasn't feeling so well Came down with a little bit of a flu. I was running a fever yesterday But today I don't have a fever anymore so I figured, I am going to move on But I'm just going to take it a little bit easy because I'm still feeling a little bit weak So I won't be covering a lot of distance today. I'm going to ride to Erbil
which is the capital of Kurdistan and it's only like 50 km away So it'll be a short hop and then uh.. yeah, I can wander around the city there a little bit That's the plan for today. Um, but first let's find something to eat Give me some strength I got some eggs and I some soup The soup tastes a little bit like.. it's more like porridge actually Very nice Okay let's fetch Frankie Who's living down here, then I don't have to walk all my stuff down here I'm just going to park her right in front of the main door Frankie, what's up? Baghdad? - Erbil Erbil. 50 kilometers - Thirty Bye-bye Goodbye Okay. Um Oh, I'm going wrong Anyway, I've been chit chatting for way too long These guys loved Frankie and yeah, we were chatting for a little bit Where I was going and everything So yeah, destination is Erbil But there is one spot I want to check out before I leave this town Which is just up here in the mountains But now I took a wrong turn, and now I don't know where I'm going Wow. This is already a pretty cool view right?
I don't know how much you can see of this Yes In here Yeah, it's Friday today. And I kind of forgot that Friday over here, is the weekend right? So normally I always try to go to like busier places in weekdays To avoid the crowds so.. it's like, always in my mind like okay, in the weekends I try to stay in one place and edit But now I forgot that that's the Friday here Let's pass this car.. it's going too slow
Am I .. supposed to drive up there, is that possible? I can go? With the moto I can go up? Yeah? Okay! Thanks I guess he says it's possible It's a little steep I really don't feel like walking right now Yes Ah yeah There's a little parking So behind me is the Raban Boya Shrine Um, it seems to be really busy on the top, so I think I'm just going to stay here and enjoy the view Um, but it is said that Raban Boya lived here in the fourth century already as a hermit And lived up to an age of 68 years which I think must have been extremely old in that time And right now this shrine is basically um, kind of like a pilgrimage for women Who come here uh, with hopes of fertility So um, that's not really why I'm here obviously. I just wanted to come and have a look at the view Maybe visit the shrine but yeah, I think there's maybe also something happening up there There's a whole group of people. So I'm just going to stay here, but look at this view
So this is a sacred place both for Christians and Muslims, which I think is very nice There is a.. a small Christian community here in town But yeah, I should have not have come here on Friday But either way What a stunning place right? I think I can already see the highrise of Erbil in the distance there behind those hills Hi Where are you from? Holland! - Hollanda! Yeah Welcome! Thank you Yes You from Erbil? Yeah - Okay Nice to meet you Wow! Look at this. That's one impressive mosque Yoi Amazing The Uber Eats here is Lezzoo Looks like There's a market in the middle of the street Hi Must be getting closer to the citadel But I'm not sure if you can see it from here Yes There it is That's the old citadel of Erbil, wow Has some fascinating story as well but I'll tell you later Can I take a left here? Is that possible? Cars are just parked here Kind of riding around the citadel now On my way to a street which is supposedly the motorcycle fixing street I just want to see if I can find someone to fix something on Frankie Frankie um, needs a service at some point Oil change and all of that but I want to do that in Baghdad But from here Baghdad is still.. probably a thousand kilometers
Yeah, I think about a thousand, I think So there is just something that I want to see if I can.. .. Get fixed a little earlier. Has to do something with a broken bolt I'll tell you the story. But first let's see if there's even, if this street even exists If I can find it I cannot go here because the market is here Have to go That's unfortunate.. How are you? Good and you? Is that a camera? Yeah How are you? Nice to meet you. What's your name? Abdullah - Noraly Noraly Nice to meet you I got to go There's still also some vibrating noise which might be because of that broken bolt I don't know! It's just.. I said this earlier
It's always so hard to figure out a noise on a motorbike or at least it is for me It's market here as well How am I supposed to find my way? Hello! - Hello! Where are you from? - Holland Somehow there's like this enormous market on the street You can buy everything Stove Heaters Nice bike. I like your bike! Carpets, anyone carpet? Oh, you can bring a whole couch even No problem Or like this! Put it all on top Oops This also works More carpets I can still see that big mosque in the distance Which also tells me I didn't really get anywhere. In like the last 20 minutes This way. I go this way No market here Okay, maybe I'll just start telling you the story about the broken bolt What Moritz and I found out is, remember that my tank was sent off to someone who completely restored it Both the inside and like painted the outside And so to paint it they took off the rubbers There's two rubbers on each side Uh, basically on the side where you bolt the tank to the frame And when the tank came back after restoration, those rubbers were put the wrong, the wrong way around, back in And we didn't notice that. Because of that the bolts basically seemed too short Didn't really fit properly and I mean when the tank is full It's heavy. I mean it's a 24 liter tank, so it's it's a lot of weight on it
And so the bolt on the left side broke off So it's now uh, my tank is only attached on one side That might be causing some of the noise or the sound that I'm hearing The problem is because the bolt is broken inside, I can't get it out So I thought, maybe let's see if I can fix that in Erbil There is a tiny, tiny little car inside Don't tell me it's market here too, no? Although I do see a lot of motorbikes And tuk tuks This is not yet the street That I'm looking for Yeah. He has the whole trunk of his car filled with geese Hey guys Hi Ah, I can't go there either It's impossible All right, is it possible? That guy is going there Thank you [Kurdish] See there are motorbikes here They're fixing some bikes there Hello [Kurdish] Uh, it is broken inside The bolt is like this - Yes yes But it's still.. it's still inside the bolt What's your country? - Holland So this is why the bolt broke. The rubber is supposed to sit like this With the thick part inside and you see here this rubber is the wrong way around So this is on the wrong side so we're going to now turn the rubber Put it back After you No no no, go go go See if I can escape here or is it completely blocked I want to go in there, is that possible? That's the question You never know here Yeah. Hey, turkeys
This way Okay, I'm glad I did that Um, he fixed it for me. Got the broke bolt out We switched around the rubber. Actually, I gave him a new rubber Um, that Moritz gave me a spare. 'Cause the one that was on there was a bit cracked So Now I shouldn't have that problem anymore Right now I don't hear a sound anymore anymore I think that was the.. .. Ticking sound I was hearing Or at least let's hope that was it, otherwise I have to start again with the diagnosis process Nice guys. Okay so
Try find a place to stay To drop off Frankie and uh.. Come on you can do it Wow, look at that It's beautiful right? Wide clean streets. Palm trees Very nice Okay, so I found a hotel. I'm sorry I am completely.. my shirt is drenched in sweat I think from just standing there in the sun when they were working on Frankie I don't know. Anyway, I'm going to freshen up and then go into city But first I want to show you this room Look you come in And then there's this lovely, yeah TV room with a desk I can edit here and then I don't even know what's behind here? Maybe the bathroom No a window. And then here is the bedroom Very nice. And then some view on the city. I don't have a view on the citadel, unfortunately
But this will do and then I must tell you as well So as I'm taking off my bags of Frankie outside Next door is a flower shop and then they come outside from the flower shop, with a rose saying welcome to Kurdistan So nice right? And then this morning actually, I told you I was talking to some guys One of them ran into a store and came out with like a bag full of water And see, he got me some Halat orange drink Some water and some kinder bueno Yeah, I want to check out the citadel obviously And I also want to go into town to see if I can find some money There's a street apparently with money changers Um, and see if I can get some Iranian money which is the next chapter I will tell you all about it probably in the next video But for now I am going to do some preparations Um, which is trying to get some Iranian money. I still have some Euros So I want to see if I can maybe exchange some Euros for Iranian money And just wander around the city, so that's the plan Okay, so I put on a clean shirt and then I took a taxi into town, cool right? Now in the city center of Erbil Here is the citadel. And then I'm not sure what this building is? Looks like the old bazaar maybe A mineret and it also has a clock tower Let's take the.. the bazaar Look what they have Walnuts, cashew Wow, this looks amazing This is all think dried fruits, dried pineapple Dried kiwi Look fresh honey In the comb still See all of this is different types of honey, see? So I'm now walking up to the citadel. Which is sitting about 30 meters over town Uh, I cannot go inside. Closed to visitors due to main road construction So it's a real shame it is closed, because this is actually a UNESCO World Heritage site It's a really quite a special place because people settled here 6,000 years ago And the reason why the citadel now sticks out about 30 meters above its surroundings is because people have generation after generation lived here And rebuild kind of on top of each other, eventually, you know rising above everything else It's incredible right? So imagine like, 6,000 years from now the citadel will be even higher or at least that's how I imagine things So uh. Yeah, it's very, very interesting place but unfortunately it's closed due to renovations
But still if you look from here from the outside, it's still an amazing place Anyway, I'm now just going to walk a little bit into town, and there's all these like street stalls with nice snacks So I'm going to see if I can get something nice to eat One Dinar one Dinar Wow, look at this Wow. Can I have one piece? One? - Yeah Thank you So I have been munching away on all the goodies I bought at the market Those sweets were very, very good Also got some money changed into Iranian Rials So yeah, in the next video, I will tell you about my plan and why I did that and everything Um, but now I'm going to end this video. That was it for today I really hope you like this video. If you did please give me a big thumbs up Subscribe down below and then I will see you in the next video
