Attention! Sandstorm area No kidding! Al Bahah, Saudi Arabia Season 8 - Eps.48 Good morning Internet It is 8:45 in the morning And welcome back to the channel Welcome here in Al Bahah, Saudi Arabia So I'm now right here in Al Bahah, right here up high in the mountains And today I'm going to explore this part of the mountains a little bit And then I'm going to be riding right here back to the coast Sorry I'm right next to a busy road This place is sitting at about 2,400 m altitude So I'm high up in the mountains And today, I am riding back to the coast Well, the main reason for that is actually I'm going to meet up With my friends With Sandra and Fiona Who I bumped into.. Well, quite in the beginning when I entered Saudi Arabia in Shaqra And they've been traveling the south of Saudi Arabia And I have been going to the north first But now our path are going to cross again So we were like, oh come on, we have to meet up again Uh, it's actually been really nice to have some friends in the same country at the same time Kind of doing the opposite route so we've been able to give each other tips of like, ah this is a nice road, this is a nice place That's the plan, it is glorious weather And I feel so incredibly lucky with that because it's very often cloudy, misty and raining here Because even in summertime, when it is 50° C in the desert There can be absolute downpour in these mountains So the locals absolutely love this area Because yeah, it's a great escape of the heat But now, it's actually such nice weather I don't even have to wear my jacket It's very nice now in just my body armor I have to say this is a very pretty town All right this way Wow Oh, I think today is going to be another day In which I am marveling At these amazing views, you got here in the mountains Look at that You can see the road down below With all the little tunnels See like these ones To protect you from rockfall Wow That's amazing Oh wow Fantastic Incredible So I am now at Thee Ain Village Also known as village with a spring sitting right on top of a granite outcrop And the village has 49 houses Some are one story but some are even up to four stories high And this village is 400 years old Look how lush it is down below here Lots of birds as well Let's check this one out Oh wow, see there's a stairway here Leading further up It's a bit dark I can't see anything Ah see, so this is one that has.. at least three stories Amazing One more this may be the rooftop then Ah see, and then I could take this one up 'Cause it's more houses there See it all connects Incredible See there's writing in the walls as well This one has even bigger Stairways, look Okay, so it leads to what there's one more room here I think Oh Goes all the way in here I feel like I could explore here for days Amazing Can you imagine 400 years ago living here Having like a nicely decorated window With a view on here How about that Oh see, I knew it there would be more stairs Up here See there you can see the rock outcropping And they're just built right on top of it So the structure of these houses or and the fort is really fascinating because it's built just by stacking rocks on top of each other And then the roofs are made of cedar wood And then on top of the cedar wood, they would place um, rocks again And cover those those with mud And that's how they built everything it's fascinating right? So they would put these wooden beams like at an angle like this To create the stairways So in the 400 years that this village exist there have been many tribal battles until finally the kingdom was reunited under the current Kingdom of Saudi Arabia But one of those battles was with a Turkish army And so the Turks were defeated in that battle and somewhere here there's a burial place That is being maintained, that is known as The Turk's Graves And that's where the Turkish soldiers that died in this place are buried It is so nice and quiet here now It's amazing What an amazing place right? Oh Fantastic Amazing All right, it's back to some climbing I'm going to climb back up to the plateau I'm at about 800 m now So back to climbing to 2400 They didn't do any breakfast in my hotel so I've not eaten anything yet And it's 10:50 so So I have some dhal, I have some chicken And some chapatis I feel re-energized Yeah, if you stop at any random restaurant in Saudi Arabia Chances are it's a Pakistani restaurant There's so many of them This one also I'm now on my way to..
My second stop For today Which is somewhere.. Behind these houses, I think Oh, there's baboons Now you can finally see them a bit better Oh, there's lots of them Wow It's a whole troop Look there, oh Hey guys I never knew Saudi Arabia Had baboons And they're gone Oh, you see this cloud coming in? I hope I am not missing the view now Could be Okay well I'm heading straight into a big cloud And to be fair I think clouds and fog are more common here Than the nice blue skies.. I've had This is very typical of this place Um The question is..
Where Somewhere here Here maybe Let me see So I am now walking On what's called the Humaida stairs So this is probably.. Done recently Think this is more like it And these stairs carved out of the rocks go down below Down in that hole, that you can cannot see right now So it's a bit of a shame that this cloud just caught me Because now you can't look down but These stairs were carved out of the rock hundreds of years ago And people would come here with their camels To carry goods all the way from down in the valley All the way to the top and now you can't see how deep the valley is here But it's similar to what I did this morning so it goes down 1 and a half, 2 kilometers Like vertical Incredible but yeah, a shame that you can't see the view now I'm not going to walk down here all the way Because well, then Frankie is at the top and I'm at the bottom But there's also a road going down a little further there So I'm going to take that one but now I am thinking It's probably also going to be in the clouds Ah, see And now you're out of the clouds I have a feeling I might be doing that road with zero visibility so That's going to be interesting Okay, there we go Trucks are not allowed Ah see, fog area Well, that is correct This is the Heznah mountain road And it's gonna be foggy See, you can see the cloud moving in here as well Probably when I descend a bit more It's probably.. the cloud will be gone again I think It's just hugging the side of the mountain Wow It's stunning though Even with the cloud Wow So mysterious Gorgeous Weeeeeeeeeh Steep hairpin... Wow Fantastic right? It's just another really stunning road And there are so many of them here I think I said it in the last video as well, the mountain range here is huge I think I read somewhere it's between 40 and 140 km wide You know and then it runs pretty much along the entire coast of the Red sea And then the mountains like, the further south you go the higher the mountains are getting So and I am still heading further south So Chances are I'll get even higher than I've been here now I believe the mountains in the south go up to 3,000 m You like this a bit better, hey Frankie? Going down Going down steep inclines At altitude It's a bit nicer for you I do appreciate that they do all of this in English too Warning dangerous curves Although, I could have guessed that one but still Like most of the warning signs they will do both in Arabic and in English Look at that Just came from up there And see Here is the sun! Cloud is already gone See and then I see some abandoned houses On the top, on like that steep hill there See if I can show you a bit better See up there there's like two houses? Right in the middle of the mountain Yeah, it's fascinating, all along this route also in the last video Everywhere you come across these old abandoned villages Forts Watch towers and I don't think I I couldn't really show this on the video, I think But what I saw was, in some areas you could see a watchtower in one hill And then the next watchtower, right on the next hill So I imagine they could see each other And it kind of feels like, was this an old system, you know to alert for danger to be able to put up a fire on one of the towers I don't know maybe Maybe I've watched too many movies But I like to imagine that, that's how they used it Oh, you know what? I can actually already see The valley Down below [STRONG WIND] Now, is it me or does the sky in front of me.. have a bit of a funny color Yeah, it's definitely sand You see that there? There's a whole.. Tornado coming this way See? All that sand there See this car is also completely covered in sand Peace be upon you Where are you from? Holland Holland - Yeah Yemen go Yemen Country Yemen? You? Yemen? Ah Sana'a? Sana'a - Ah Okay Thank you Goodbye Oh, It's getting windier and windier Attention Sandstorm area No kidding! All right, I am in the town Where I'm going to meet up with Sandra and Fiona Let's see if they are already there Okay they are already here So let's see where they're staying 10 minutes Then I'm there I see a motorbike Thank you Hi! Hi! Sorry, I'm still wearing my helmet! So welcome to my room Very nice carpet! So Sandra and Fiona already got here two hours ago I think I was a bit late Um, but I'm gonna have a quick shower And then um, I think we're going to go out for some food or chat or coffee Or something like that So that was it for today, what a ride What a ride, really enjoyed it It was just gorgeous again and um Yeah, what else can I say? Another good day in Saudi Arabia, so that was it for today I really hope you like this video, if you did please give a big thumbs up Subscribe down below and then I'll see you in the next video
