How I ended up in a riverbed in the jungle of Panama |S6-E30|

It is still early morning I'm leaving early and I'm already fully packed as you.. maybe can see It's because I have a long ride for today. Today I am planning to ride almost 350 kilometers To some beach somewhere Um.. I've already folded down the map but I promise you
When I arrive today, I'm going to show you the route that I did today Um.. but anyway, the weather looks pretty fine this morning Look at that, the sun just coming up So I say, let's go! The humidity is probably.. 90% or 100% So.. from just from bringing my bags to Alaska and packing everything, I'm already sweating And it's like 7 in the morning So uh.. that's promising for the rest of the day We'll see how it goes 348 ks Going to leave here from the main boulevard or whatever it's called With the chicken buses, they call these Like those old American school buses That you see everywhere around Central America Downside of these old buses.. like look at that. Those fumes coming out It's pretty bad So first, I'm just leaving Panama City And I think, it will be a little paved from then Then I'm gonna ride some unpaved and then probably paved again That's what I expect Fun day Ah, they've opened this lane also for traffic coming to city And they probably do that in the morning rush hour And then in afternoon, it's probably reversed I'm crossing a really awesome bridge Wow Traffic is being led off.. the road

Want to go that way Little bit odd Morning Good morning, you speak Spanish? - Yes Where are you going? - I'm going to Playa Escondido Good. At 8 o'clock in the morning, the lanes are opening in the direction you are going to Okay Here, a little further, is a petrol station Wait there, until 8 in the morning, before going on Oh, okay There is another way, but it's far - Ah, how many kilometers more? I have to wait half an hour Oh that's a shame Might as well have left half an hour later obviously I didn't know this I'm the only one So they open everything for the other traffic Oh Okay We'll wait.. half hour I see quite a lot of cars going down that route I think it's still faster to go this way And go a little bit around it And more fun because sitting here for half and hour Is a little bit boring so I'm going to try and find a way around this This is the whole Panama Port area Well, I think I've moved up a little bit Further up the road but I think it's still closed so And I am back on track It's time to leave the Panamericana And uh.. go a little bit more off-grid
Let's go this way Look at that.. wow! I'm just partly in the cloud here And over there, I can see the sea Well the sea.. the Pacific Ocean Wow, this route is a lot more interesting than I imagined Climbing almost to the top now Think this is the top Look at that view Wow Isn't Panama just absolutely amazing? Look at those mountains And now it's Altos del Maria Oh, it's some sort of check point Didn't know about that Hello! Can I pass or not? This is private property Ah, I didn't know that. I'm going until El Valle But here it's private property and only for residents of Alto Maria Is there another road to El Valle? Not on this side, you will have to go back to the Panamericana and go up the other side Well, that is a real shame. I can't continue here because this is some private property So I have no other option then to go all the way back to the Panamericano Panamericana What a shame because this area is just gorgeous My plan was to ride through.. through here Past the town called El Val.. El Valle
But it's blocked by this private property So I have to go all the way around it now Kind of back to where I came from Oh, this is definitely the best part of the entire day. This is really nice to ride Oh No, I think another river crossing is gonna come up I'm not sure.. I'm going this way Oeh, where am I going? Yeah, there's definitely this creek Over here But I'm not crossing it But I'm going to.. no I am crossing it It's crossing on this side Wow, what a track! Am I still going in the right way? Where am I going? It's 5 ks left to the beach So.. It's not too far Well, I did not see this coming I thought this was a road But not quite Just following this river.. bed at the moment I think I have to cross over there again Not sure Think so Maybe I can stay on this side Ah, I have to follow it for.. a little bit more
Oeh Pretty big rocks up here Oeh Yeah, very smooth, very smooth Okay, where am I going? Uh.. still following the river Whooh, it's getting a little bit uh.. ..Enduro like I'm not so.. yeah, I don't know Not really sure If this is where I am supposed to be So I've been scouting ahead a little bit Turns out I am on the right track, this is the road Um so.. I am kind of picking my line now I think I'm going to go up this route This way. Then I'll have to go through this water up to the other side there That's probably the best 'Cause these rocks are very difficult to ride over So then I'll come out.. over here
Then.. I'll have to ride a little bit over these rocks And then I'll probably get back into the water on this side Or I'll stay here. That doesn't really matter so much I think Oh no, I have to be here in the water, 'cause this.. you can barely see it on the Go Pro But.. can you see it now?
Nah Cannot even see it if I look on here but trust me, this is not nice to ride on So I'll go through the water And then.. see, 'cause you get all these rocks sticking out this way So I'll go through the water here Then I'll have to ride up this Because I can't ride through here Again, you can't barely see it on the Go Pro How big these rocks are or how high But this is not.. the way to go So I'll come through here and then enter the water here And there's the road again So uh.. yeah, it's a.. how much would this be? 15 meters
See Alaska is standing over there But uh.. a little stretch Oh I so wish I did not have luggage right now 'Cause.. it just makes such a big difference if you have weight on the back or not I think a lot of people forget that I'm always or most of the time riding with all my heavy luggage on the back And that makes doing kind of Enduro.. things like this stuff a lot harder But um.. yeah, I'm just gonna take it slow.. slowly but steady That's the plan Also this is a one way in, one way out type thing So.. I'll have to come back the same way here Um.. I don't know if I can stay somewhere there. On Maps.me it says that there is a hostel
But uh.. I doubt it to be honest so.. .. It's possible that I'm just gonna check out the beach and then come back the same way Okay then First this way Okay Then Through here Or I have to make the turn here, that will be even better then I don't have to go up there But uh.. that turn is tight here Oeh Okay Now just ride through here Up there Come on Okay, almost there See, even from walking.. Oh, it's quite nice Right, I'm trying to cool myself down a little bit. My head still.. it looks and feels like an absolute tomato From all the effort to cross that river Oh man! And just when I arrived here, there are these two military guys standing there So I'm talking to them and trying to explain.. yeah, but there's a river and you have to ride through it And.. yeah no, there's definitely another way in That's how all the other people got here Anyway, I made it to the coast. I made it to the beach here
Um.. I think I'm gonna try and look for a place for tonight See if there is anything close if not I have to ride like 14 ks back to town But hopefully I can find something a little bit closer to here That would be cool Thank you very much! Like none of them knew the way I came But uh.. on this side, it says.. yeah.. no exit Well, we know that's a lie It's just a.. from the other side, I did not see a sign like that. Maybe I missed it But anyway Okay, let's see if they have a room by any chance Probably not It looks very busy Sometimes I am so, so lucky So I stumbled upon this place. This is where I am staying. This is my little cabin
And then.. this is my view. How amazing is this? So the whole place is fully booked But they only had this cabin because the air-conditioning is broken It doesn't work So he says.. how do you feel about that? I said.. hah, air-conditioning is overrated I'll survive And um.. yeah, I just got a pineapple juice at the restaurant Okay, before I forget. Let me show you the route that I took today
So I started in Panama City Then I took the main road. Then I wanted to cut across here Through El Valle And then I started here and then I couldn't So I had to turn back and then I had to take the Panamericana around it And then I went like this And then down here, Las Tablas Pedasi And then here to the coast And this is where I am now And this is already the border with Costa Rica So you can see..
