So we have to do this thing now. place did you know about Somaliland like did you know about a place called Somaliland no about it yes me to seek one of you about Somaliland so it was confusing for us I remember that day when I came home here would you wish me to travel to a new country why not yes welcome but this country is called Somaliland so that one and then one of the friends to connect to here to ask him where is this place exactly and are you sure about the place you know because we couldn't imagine that the people who are here and it's so peaceful and even their families here so he was trying to convince us but we still doubting that eventually anyway yes so yeah so okay basically we knew about Somaliland through our colleague yeah a workmate yeah yeah who told you uh by the way kuna jobs uh this and this place would you like to go and work out of Kenya yeah then wewe ukamwambia for now wacha because I remember I think and you gonna be that job before yeah like a month or two yeah but we brushed it off by that by the way my friend is still looking for teachers are you still interested for the job vacancy so when you came back ukaniambia tena the the slot is still there the teachers are still needed by the way there are so many expatriates here there are teachers there are doctors there are chefs they are engineers they are um what else is yes they do these buildings and all that there are very many people here and not only Kenyans by the way very many people from other different countries exactly so from that time okay why not try but these are so many many questions will make our for how long uh how sure you it's a safe place okay like how is the life generally then even my family is here with my kids so I was like okay if he has his family there and it means okay he is sure yeah it's a safe place yes so that's when we said let's give it a try but another challenge came in about passport then you are also worried because of the kids yeah so the other thing now came in Sasa and I think this is something I want to talk about Kenyans or whatever you are I think it's good to have you know things like passports in advance yeah because life life comes in twists and turns you never know when you need one and you know opportunity comes and you lose it because you are not ready for it and opportunity opportunities come to those who are prepared exactly if you're not prepared you will be skipped and chance given to another person yeah so now getting a passport took another time and it wasted you almost another month yeah yeah yeah because your passport Unajua it was nice being in an airplane that imagination you know but mostly it was because of you know that good bad feeling there is fear in it but you really want to risk out yeah because and you also are curious to know yeah traveling and getting to know the new place yeah it's an experience it was really a humbling experience that's nice okay so for me I knew Somaliland through you and the friend who contacted you and and anyway so far you cannot regret this right yes I can't regret it Alhamdulillah yeah oh my God okay so sasa coming here umeambiwa tu you have not come to see because you see at first when you are talking to him he will tell you the culture is like this the dressing is like this especially for the ladies you know the religion is this how prepared were you about that that was that was it's no question about it I was not prepared I was worried i was so much worried you know very many thoughts crossed my mind how about the family i'm leaving behind how are they going to cope without me you know we are used to being there and then now this country i'm going in i'm told that it has different culture it was a big problem for me actually when i was coming i was i was i was really disturbed though i really wanted to venture and find out for myself but that was a big big big problem challenge yeah yeah okay same for me because you just go people are there yes you go so what will make you not survive yes yes okay for me it was not that stressful like you're leaving coming to a new country that is a bit reserved and all that the culture and the religion and everything because i was telling you why not it's a nice experience i think you'll have a different view of life out there you will also learn to appreciate other people's culture more true you will also have to learn to accommodate the religion you know because now when you come here you have to adhere to the rules of the Islam religion you know so when i when when you told me that i was like okay you just go it's no big deal this guy has told you he has lived there with his family the kids are there so i think some few hiccups and you will adjust so we prepared and then you left but that day i was really worried i called him the following day when you traveled and your phone was off because you didn't have a number a line for that place so i kept calling him please when he arrives let me know have you gone to the airport to take him have you picked him are you sure he's safe even before i left you know yeah the night the night the night when i was going to the airport yes so you knew you knew you would take me you know like we do the bus stage yes you take somebody up to the bus stage and then you you get him into the bus or whatever and then you tell him okay goodbye so you know ignorance we went we reached terminal 2 you you are like he's my husband we are going i'm i'm seeing him off and then the guys tell you no are you a passenger no you go back from here then you were crying I left you crying i was so worried so but that time it was a bit emotional and we had to do what we had to do exactly so i got here but remember also during that preparation time you know the the parents the friends the family you know you try to tell them you know i'm planning to go to this place called Somaliland they don't understand Somaliland so people will be telling you like so what's wrong with you why have you decided this don't you have jobs around here in kenya yeah is that the only place you can go through no but then then you're left confused am i making the right choice or am i messing up somewhere should i just stay around and never know you know yes on the way on your side it was crazy because for you you had that smooth ride yeah yeah on your side your family your relatives okay like your parents did not have much problem you just go you you go find out what's going on there it wasn't that much of a big deal and venture into life enjoy have fun yes get the experience and all that but now on my side oh my God it was crazy because i remember that time okay you left because we never left all of us at the same time we never left all of us at the same time so you came we decided come first know what is happening and then after that after that you learn the job and you learn the culture then you you can tell us is it possible for us to come but before that we were talked to the school administration and they agreed that because your wife is a teacher later if your work is good they can bring her over if they agreed and we were like okay if that's the deal then now we can agree you to leave yeah but if they don't agree in the first place for me and the kids to come no leaving but it is also good for you to tell people the issue here is if your work is good so it means what people should know that the world is very competitive and and everybody expects the best so you cannot just go somewhere and then you just want to do average things so you have to up your game stand out given an opportunity you have to prove you can do it yes so that's another thing i keep telling people opportunities will come but are you worthy are you are you ready to do something different or give in 110 if you really need it then you really need to give your best so that was something that was a challenge i had that if you have a job but if i have to come you have to prove that the school really needs your services yes you are working to have that favor extended to your family like your kids to come your wife to come because your problem was you want that family unit together because that's what we are used to in kenya most of the time we live the same place if you are working at this place i am around and the kids but anyway thank you because when you came here you did a nice job we did that yeah good be prayerful every time give your best be honest and everything falls in place so now here you are you have arrived a big shout out to my big bro my big bro shout out to bro God bless you a gym beast but i really appreciate honestly i really appreciate everything i don't know yaani sometimes some things take the hand of God and so far so good tunashukuru sana big bro wherever you are this is for you your family our family we appreciate you we are very thankful so sasa i had to tell my parents you know yes i am going to this place so they were like what why once that you have a job in kenya the kids are here they have to learn so easily they are young they are growing so my parents said there is nowhere that you are going i was a and that was final that was final so i was like what i really need to go because now my husband has left and we had planned that at least he goes and checks the place a nice place his work is okay there are very many teaching opportunities there and the institution had agreed to bring us over so there is no problem there are other families that are living there very many kenyans and other people working there so don't be worried about the security oh my God my parents this one if you what i'm saying it was a struggle but at the end of the day i had to do this you know they also understood later yeah yeah later they also understood them they said okay God bless you in the new venture in the new place yeah so i told them now i need to process my documents on the kids documents but for me to process my documents they have to give their consent by giving me their identification card the parents identification card and that one the struggle oh my God took us to please give me the documents i need to process the passport so nikambiwa now you i think maybe you're making the wrong choice and at last they decided to help me with the documents but it was crazy the way i got the document push and cool i started for another day that one is a story for another day later i got the documents their documents and i went silently you processed my documents from the immigration officers in nairobi and then after a few weeks i think two or three they did not take so long we got the kids passport yeah for the children and for me now the preparation started to come over and all that but also everything always has a struggle you know sometimes the preparations would read somewhere and it's like things are stuck but we became patient and waited until now i got my tickets to fly over and we came the kids were really excited okay they had this idea like god really had this idea of okay if i'm flying out i am going to see that and the country is like this yes he was excited yes that night i think they did not sleep it was terrible they they are aunties we are still parking and it's me and the two kids but later we travel i think one thing that i learned that time it's good people to be you know to be accommodating you should be you should expect change that when change comes your way embrace it because you never know you know things happen for a reason so when we were living it looked like maybe you know this is a wrong decision we're making i don't think if this is the right thing you're supposed to be doing but at the moment i think it was the best thing we did and if there is any challenge that comes with it we solve it one at a time i think we we are we are moving in the right direction and that's one reason why we have more iconic global tv yes so we try to explain to people that there's a place called some island it is safe people are living here the culture is good the place is and anybody who has an idea of maybe doing business venturing into new places then this is the right place to be there's a lot of growth happening recently in the education sector in the hospitality sector there are very many schools in our gaze very many new schools right now how many schools have even opened been established when you are here there are many very many then also the hospitality industry hotels is booming i think yeah that is one of the most uh growing industry in this country yeah so now that's why we are also trying to make the tourism industry you know even the somaliland offices here about tourism should do more to market the countries sensitize people out there of the opportunities of investment maybe in that can be really great and they have they have good uh you know we have advancement like now technology at least the transfer the money transfer community in person yeah yeah we have something called yeah they are too fast efficient this one is not like in kenya where every transaction you have to produce your id and and again they charge you here the money transfer is free sending when you are sending and you are receiving buying anything the transfer is free so it's like everybody uses that particular service mostly cashless transactions yes yes yes because it's free so most people are using and it's easy to use it's efficient and again one unique thing you don't have to have a smartphone oh yeah sure by the way you don't have to have a smartphone like put your internet on then you operate the app no even with the smallest that ship we call it kabambe yeah the communication you can always access your money operate your money and all that and but unless you are doing the international um changing the the money change from maybe dollar you want to send to your country like for us we always do that we change the money right on your phone change it from the dollars to the kenyan ceiling then you send even to your phone you can have that safari compliant in your phone yes you change few minutes you just check the money has been credited in your account which is really really at last for me that one is very effective and we enjoy the services so so you are now in uh yes with the babies how are you feeling how was everything when when i landed the turbulence was not so bad you have not told people how you are excited to go into an aeroplane you are taking selfies you're so excited you know you know i'm flying boeing three zero five six african airways and the confusion in you was too much not like for me okay for me it was not so much of a big deal you know i had so many things going in my mind i'm also concerned about the security of the kids but of course the selfies must be taken it's for memories you know by the way the the international airport here is called agar yeah when you go to our gates you'll get to eagle international airport yes the environment the weather and i think that time were very hot yeah the weather was very hot it was in january no no no no no it was around october or august somewhere there it was july again because yes you are supposed to you will not travel and come to someone and then come up with a different my friend if you're coming from kenya maybe probably from other countries you have to respect the islamic culture so i had to buy some few boy boys but it's also funny you know that's why i said sometimes things work in uh the way god has planned your life i remember in which year was that some time back when i had my second baby i was working in a school that is a catholic oriented but when i went to look for my maternity dresses guess what i bought yes i went to italy in nairobi and got myself two very nice black boogers and that's what i was wearing then everybody thought i'm crazy so now when i connect to those two things it's destiny yes i think for me it was about destiny and then i saw these two things connecting so to my figure i'm not so much in a shock because of my dressing because i love it i enjoy it and i have done that previously during that period of money to the culture and i also enjoy it you look nice thank you so now we land again the heat sun burns everywhere it's dry it's dusty so my son was asking me hey mom is this the place where we were coming the other baby was a bit little she was young so hey yes this is where the day stays so to cover to go to confuse that how to do nanyana production to peak but luckily the institution always organizes for transport for new teachers new staff members from the airport to the facilities where the teachers reside the guest houses so we were picked i was looking for you then i was like guys one of the drivers that i was like yeah so i know he's still in the guest house but you were sent to come and pick you people then because of the kids so we came the environment at first we meet with you looking for specific roads that time uh the terrain is not good the roads were not very well the market places anywhere how does even the driver know where exactly it looks yes very many things are crossing my mind then i even thought did i have to come to this place i think i've made a wrong choice [ __ ] wanna be aki if i knew this is how the place looks yeah so i'm also thinking very dry where do people get water where do they get food because hakuna farms but now that's crossing my mind cinnamon in the guest house and then at least now you saw you you got familiar get up all the teachers like you you did not want to travel back to kenya because you were aware yeah and then now we started getting into the system yeah mixing with the new teachers mixing with the old teachers they are the ones to explain to you the culture the expectations the school policies where when you came unless you had me yes yes you know i was telling you this one don't do this on your own yes and although now i had to count on my friend who connected me that's why i was mean i was referring to him as very important at that time yeah i don't know about him you know that guy is good you know you are good bro don't worry so one day i think after one day he he picked me up in my room and then he took me to town we went to the bank it was the first time i touched a dollar it was your first time it was the first time i touched that now you see why i was telling you me being in an airplane was not a shock to me because mimi i had touched dollars before i know you know you know me yeah for me that was the fact that i wanted to agree yeah for me that was the first time around a thousand bobby kenya yes so you know so we went a number you can use this buy a few things here and there yeah he was a nice guy he took me to our time he introduced me to this place you know telling me how it works everything so i really appreciate him and then yeah and then we went back he meant he made your landing your first time experience here very comfortable yeah very comfortable i remember even my first watching uh basically all the all the basic needs yeah he gave them to him so that's what brothers are yeah friends are for years but i i also used to tell him please please make sure my guy is comfortable make sure you tell me how he's doing i'm worried is he okay you know we made this decision the two of us that you go and venture now if something bad happens to him what will i say you know i will be answerable maybe the family will also question me my family will also tell me why did you people decide to go there so i really wanted at least somebody who will check up on you and to make sure so we appreciate that yeah yeah so when we got here like a week after i landed you know i started work and trying to acclimatize yeah learn a few somali words and and we're going to do a video on this one very soon because right now this we can speak somalia language at the moment my kids speak somali all of them they can speak arabic recite but you see these things are just the same when you go to rome you do whatever and i love it anyway yeah i love it a week after can be yes you might think you know the kid is sick yes the smaller the small one yeah she was a few months old i think you left when he was around eight yeah around eight because much yes then you told me she's sick so she the condition was bad and then i was like so i can't stay here my kid is sick yeah let me just go back maybe it was a mistake yeah relax it shall be well bro just just relax i told him no no when my kid is sick and i am here it cannot work i have to go back and then you called him secretly you told him by any means that boy should not live there he really dares to leave yeah women book me back i'm going because my child is sick i cannot stay here then he just tells me like that so that that moment was very depressing for me i didn't i didn't have anything good in me by that time because i said the family is not there and everything is not fine i almost gave up but i said anyway let's see how it rolls out yeah yeah so that part there was stayed phenomenal it was terrible by this asaka for me that time oh my god it was a tough time in total i have to struggle alone um so he had very many questions but now he had to answer him because he was also curious and anxious as well yeah but now there are very many things we have learned here by the way one of them is the community aspect of the summaries the togetherness that bond they are minding about another person's welfare they are so much concerned on are you comfortable how is everything how is your family how are your kids anything that happens to you by the way they will follow up one day like i remember one time the kid was sick to give up in the guesthouse and then we were looking for a place a hospital then this is a nice one everybody was willing go to this place una peratta referrals i can get underway or a taxi for you to be taken to that doctor yani there is a lot of bonding community care i think it's cultural for them helping is part of them you know like most of my somali friends they will prefer if they are going to town and i'm going to the gym they will take me to town then they go back to the gym you know it's not like you're going to pay for them they feel nice if they get in a restaurant like today here they will tell you your bill has been catered this is somebody you just met so it's it's a really a beautiful community to live in you learn a lot of good things about love sharing yeah something else you'll see is mostly when they eat they eat together they sit down they share the same plate they use their hands to eat something else i found interesting if you have to use the public transport oh my god you will just enjoy it because nobody is hurting you up on the bus then you just do like this they will stop they will wait for you would you remember not running for the polling you go to the bus you board california nobody is hurting you hey you're wasting our time get in seats yes sit be comfortable now the driver will drive off and there are no conductors that's how honesty is is culture that's cultured here there's too much honesty there's nobody to collect the bus fare the bus so you just check the bus number if there's this yeah you just pay through your phone or if you have the money you just pass through the customers you pass through the customers if you are seated at the moment you give the next person in the next chair give the next person to give to pass to the other one to pass them until it is the driver and everybody pays yes it's so much good that you feel like an element of honesty it's funny because i don't know my alley most of the time i forget my phone in the gym i don't have a sleepless night i just yeah i go back the following day i drink it and they tell you oh you left your phone here we kept it for you so it's a good culture another time you went to the market downtown and you forgot your identity and the lady the woman who was selling for you the meat kept it for me until the next thursday yeah because they knew you would pass over there to people which is really nice by the way that one oh my god for our brothers and sisters in somaliland you are really bigger in culturing honesty you know and responsibility people have to know you are your brother's keeper you are your sister's keeper anything that affects them should be your concern anything that is not going well with them should be your concern and the same thing to them also you know and and um yeah so the other thing you want to talk about is maybe the ladies know when you come here you really need to adapt to the modesty you have to dress modestly and even the way everything has to be a certain level of mannerism it's something that i've also learned here you know it's it's good because they grow up knowing what is right for them and and also the first time you came you know okay like kenyans in kenya you greet some when you meet somebody you greet somebody using your heart yes so when we came here you're there extending your hand to meet somebody and then somebody's looking at you like um then you want that they don't want you or something but later we learned that you don't just go greeting especially the opposite sex with your aunts yes you just say salaam alaikum how are you good morning things like that so if it's a man i will not touch their hand if it's a man who wants to greet me they will not touch my hand also but for the same sex they can do that you can hug your lady friends if you're a lady you can hug your your sisters your brothers maybe in the home but now outside here the man you stay on your lane yeah and that also goes to the modest yeah yeah yeah it applies and what ends amazing place oh now something else that we found also amazing in our place in kenya you used to you can go to the shop anytime you wake up in the morning at seven you need something you rush to the shop it's lunch time you don't have tomatoes to cook you don't have salt and you are sure to find that lady here it's mostly about timings because the shops close at noon yes because that's time for salah and everybody is in prayer mode now so they close the shops go maybe to the mosque some some people also go home after the prayer time yes so they close the shops they close the schools most schools operate also in shops hospitals also unless you're all businesses all businesses everybody is now going home prayers then they go home so some people have that afternoon nap they sleep up to around three and four oh yes then around four life comes back again after the play there is the shops can open these afternoon schools but now for the kids they have to go to the afternoon at noon the morning section is finished from six or seven in the morning up to 12 or 12 50 that bunch of students go home then now the second bunch of school comes to action and that is around from 10 50 or 1. but by sikhs they are home because they need to go to madrasa they need to do their prayers it's it's it's interesting another thing is you know in kenya in kenya on saturday and sunday it's a weekend yes here on saturday and sunday is a week ago so we are on work we are at work from saturday up to wednesday and then thursday and friday is weekend the weekend so when you come here you need yes so you think now you're supposed to stay at home you're going at work actually saturday is the first day of the week so it's funny but you get to adjust and then you get to it it's interesting the first time i was always very confused because you're wondering today's saturday saturday today is sunday and people from home are calling you each weekend they think you are free but you're in class but right now i don't even find anything weird we have really adjusted we know the time the shops operate there is a time i cannot even dare leave the house because where am i going to businesses are closed shops are closed the restaurants are closed so you just stay in the house and after everything comes back to normalcy you just go and do your thing but it's a nice place the climate is good like right now it's a bit cold so it's not raining the weather is nice you know and another thing that used to disturb me was water where they get water in the desert mostly they have this oh so mostly we have this big glories they call buoyance those guys are the ones who bring water in most homes and it's from the bar yeah there are few homes with water there are few places even where people do farming yeah so but those boys those tankers will always bring water to the homes yes the water is a bit salty so again you adjust to that so most of the time we drink uh the bottles the water in the water buy from the shop yeah but so can you get it just like getting it in kenya the yes they sell very many products that and and the salty water talking of that salty water did it affect you when you came here yeah the skin oh my god if you're not careful your skin will change color so you have to be somebody who's a bit hygienic a little bit otherwise you even even i think at some point it can affect maybe your feeding yeah because again the food is not you know they will garlic at home all the time they're vegetables so you get used to eating rice spaghetti no vyasia here the potatoes are there but they are not you don't find the sweet potatoes a lot you don't find the yams a lot but there's a time i found in the supermarket the sweet potato do you remember i don't know they told me they called but we'll follow up from the farms that are in somalia or the greenhouses we need to know what exactly do they plant so here the feeding was a challenge for us i remember the kids did not take their food for almost two weeks they don't want rice no big problem we cannot get vegetables with only the cabbage and the spinach so we even resorted to planting our own kitchen garden yes the kitchen garden watch that video by the way the kitchen garden at least it gets gives us some green vegetables although right now i've really neglected it because for the nutrition of the kids it's important to have the green stuff and then most of the food is also processed yes how is that yes canned and processed so you have to adjust because there is nowhere where we easily get you know whole grain food yeah most of even beans you have to buy canned ones but at the market we get them and boil them and that came later when we realized yes yeah when you have somebody to take you around you understand yeah and that's why i'm telling you watch videos from california tv at least when you come to argentina you'll have somewhere to start from do you know when where to go the market you know which taxis to use we call them that away so adjusting here at least you need somebody to show you that way it will be easy but again even if you come on your own the locals are more than willing to help oh my god yeah i really appreciate the video even the students that we teach very hard everybody everybody else very nice so now i think for today we can have that as part one so that brings us to uh the end of our first episode of how we came to somalila let's do this together it's amazing you'll get amazing videos because also very soon i'm going to do for you other videos of jobs that you can find in somaliland and also how life is
