Since 1876, the hotel has been a true part of Vienna's history and a favourite gathering place for famous figures from business, politics, and culture. The lobby is small but beautifully decorated and very cozy. The centrepiece is a charming winter scene crafted entirely from sweets – and yes, it’s edible! This truly immerses you in the enchanting magic of the winter season.

Let's go upstairs! Very quiet and comfortable space! It’s time for my reservation at Café Sacher! Let's head over there! The hotel is famous for the original Sachertorte, a chocolate cake with apricot filling. Let's have a look on the menu! Originally created by pastry chef- Franz Sacher, this chocolate cake is probably one of the most popular European desserts today. Here you can read the history behind the famous cake! Franz Sacher (1816–1907), a renowned confectioner, gained fame for his Sachertorte, which he is said to have created in 1832 for a reception hosted by Austrian State Chancellor Klemens von Metternich.
Elisabeth Gürtler took over the running of the hotel in 1990 following the death of her husband, Peter Gürtler. S She passed the torch to her daughter Alexandra and son Georg in 2014. Thus the long-standing tradition of being a family-owned and family-run business remains unbroken to this day. I found the famous Sacher Torte. You can enjoy the cake with a glass of water and a hot beverage for €22.50, or elevate the experience by adding a glass of Original Sacher Cuvée for €31.50. Today, the Original Sacher-Torte is still made by Hotel Sacher using the original, secret recipe.
My order has arrived! I opted for the choice that includes a glass of Original Sacher Cuvée, priced at €31.50. For the hot beverage, I chose the Sacher Melange (espresso with steamed milk and whipped cream) priced at €7.50. The cake is presented in a simple yet delicate manner, highlighting its timeless elegance. It is traditionally served with unsweetened whipped cream to balance the richness of the cake. The Sacher-Torte consists of two layers of dense chocolate cake, separated by a thin layer of apricot jam, and coated in a dark chocolate glaze. Outside, a queue of people waits to taste the famous cake.
To ensure a table at this popular café, it's advisable to make a reservation in advance. The restaurant is opened Monday to Sunday: from 07:00 a.m. to 23:00 p.m. Check-in is at 3 PM, so I still have some time to step outside and admire the hotel's exterior.
