First Impressions of JAKARTA Indonesia - NOT what we expected (Indonesian food,Monas,Kota Tua)

after spending an amazing year and a half in Thailand it was time for us to explore somewhere new and Indonesia sounded like the perfect Adventure we'll be spending the next two months seeing as much of this diverse country as possible starting in its capital city Jakarta we weren't sure what to expect as it was our first time here but we were Amazed by what Jakarta had to offer come with us as we explore the largest city in Indonesia so guys we are in Jakarta Indonesia yeah it's both of our first time ever in Jakarta so that's exciting like one thing you see everywhere is that the traffic in Jakarta is terrible but then we saw that today every Sunday they have a car free day and the main road through the center of the city there's no cars there is a whole seven kilometers that you can run you can bike we see all these people here there are no Cars so I don't know if we're gonna do the whole way but it's seven kilometers to the National Monument that we also want to see but there are buses yeah which is also cool there's apparently in Jakarta there's like bus lanes for only buses which is amazing we're super super excited to see this huge street with no cars on it I mean that's amazing that's the best way to start yeah our first day and we get car free day this is amazing looks like a movie yeah just walking here with no cars it's crazy I mean I'm really surprised at how green and clean like even right here this is the biggest the busiest Road I guess in the whole city but there's green everywhere in the middle of the street there's green lining the streets it's green there's trees all around like good morning this is amazing I think we're both just like what is this this is not what we were expecting no not at all and the people are so friendly just with the bike and saying good morning good morning good morning yeah I've never seen this in a city like every Sunday like we have it in Barcelona once per year when there is running or a race or something but every Sunday yeah here's a Metro Bus Station you want to take that one yeah let's take that one we don't have cards we're hoping we can buy a card there and then we'll Metro bus up to the Monas there's a bunch of things listed there so I don't know if there's different buses or not and we can't check if there's different buses or not because our phones aren't working so we're just gonna jump on a bus and hope it goes the way we need to go I mean it's so easy because it's just straight so yeah if we see that it's like turning or something we can say stop yeah here there is no one just people working out that is amazing and the other side amazing how are we in the center of the biggest city in Indonesia and it's this I don't know there's so many trees though just right here in the middle of the road that is so cool there's the bus now coming oh well we're gonna miss that one too I don't know how it works we need a card there should be English we need to download an application a trans trans Jakarta yes JakLingo we're getting Wi-Fi to search an app and then hopefully we can get tickets we don't know we don't know we totally failed at getting a card in the station but the girls were so nice like they gave us Wi-Fi off their phone yeah and then we just met this man who speaks perfect English he explained to us the machines usually sell cards but at this station they're out so yeah he told us all about the cards and he's literally walking us to Indomaret so we can buy a card so thank you thank you so much oh my god that guy took us around everywhere he was amazing ordered our cards for us walked us the whole way back gave us like all these tips and now you have to wear a mask to use the train Carles doesn't have one and some guy just gave him a mask he was like can I pay you and the guy's like no no no seriously it's our first day here and we keep failing but everyone's so nice everyone is so friendly that's amazing so now we're getting on the train we have our cards he topped up money for us everything yeah he has a mask now and now we're gonna go explore here's our friend Afo oh he just looked no I didn't see us though yeah Afo he's amazing he helped us so much what is it number one Kota we can take this one there is an air conditioner and the seats are good like the bus is super new it's so nice we just realized we were in the ladies only section this sign we asked this guy and he said yeah so now we moved back here it's okay for you but yeah it was in the girls section oh I'm on this side getting out was a lot easier than getting in but that was so convenient it doesn't have to stop for any traffic it's amazing we haven't even done anything yet and we've met so many nice people and like I just can't get over how green it is yeah green everywhere trees everywhere flowers I don't know so many times we've said it's amazing yeah even now it's a police station there's all barbed wire so we didn't know how to get into Monas and this guy's just taking us thank you I don't know why there's all this barbed wire here that's kind of weird but that guy though he was gardening he literally just walked us over here we made it to Monas the National monument and you can already see there's so many people at the bottom so we want to go up to the top apparently you can go up to the top but maybe there's a big line now I don't know yeah we have to get closer and see we just met this tour guide here he was super nice just said you want a tour and we're like no we're just walking around and you know okay cool we just chatted for a minute he said that the line to go to the top is one hour yeah we're so hungry right now yeah we can't wait an hour to go to the top so we're just gonna try and check out this like lower platform here and hopefully later in the week we can go to the top 5,000 for the museum and goblet 15,000 to the top after a detour we made it yeah which there's supposed to also be a museum here so I guess we can check out the Museum Part if we find it in here somewhere okay yeah how tall is this it's huge this museum is about the history of Indonesia which is cool because honestly I've never been to Indonesia before until like yesterday was my first day getting here so I really do not know anything I didn't know much either this will be cool we can learn about Indonesia I think we started on the wrong side because here the history was in the 1960s and then went from 60s to 55 to 50. so we're gonna go to the other side now we're in the Neolithic Age this is the beginning we made it outside and there is the line here yeah the line looks long it's so nice this huge Park in the middle of the city there's trees all around it is amazing and I guess this is where we're going next the famous Istiqlal mosque and the cathedral we're leaving yeah we asked again and they said it is an hour but she said if you come when they open at 8am like there won't be a wait you can just go to the top we made it yeah finally come early during the week yeah we didn't wait at all just the elevator one time yeah it was like two minutes oh I see the cathedral and the mosque there oh I see the mosque where's the cathedral next oh I see it in the distance that's where we're going next the whole thing's caged in though right there's no like open air let's go to eat something and try to go to the mosque you know what you want no I don't know anything I don't know anything about that nasi goreng is like the normal one right yeah I don't know what it is either though rice and something 25 yeah let's try here we're just staying in Monas we were walking to the exit and there's like a bunch of food stands here and we have not eaten anything yet yeah we're so hungry and this is I guess our first time eating Indonesian food well you had before in Indonesia I've never had Indonesian food before yeah but I don't remember anything here so yeah luckily the menu is all photos so we can just you want Nasi Goreng right we should get one nasi goreng and one this also looks good ayam I think is chicken chicken we still don't have SIM card yet so even with the food some of it like we don't know what it is but we can't even Google it because we still don't have phones so we're gonna try and get phones after here so yeah right now we're just looking at pictures water is aqua it's almost like agua yeah more Spanish and I got the mango that it's manga and juice and jus is juice we're gonna try at the same time yeah I don't see any meat which is good I see egg yeah just egg cheers me it's good it kind of just tastes like fried rice it is really good though fried rice is my favorite so first Indonesian food is a win if I don't know what else to eat I can get Nasi Goreng I think your'e going to eat this every day maybe and Carles got here's the chicken rice and what's this on top it's like salsa I don't know it looks like tomato but it's called ayam bakar ayam bakar okay I think I'm gonna love it is the sauce spicy it looks like it would be spicy is it spicy? no I want to try wait it's getting a little spicy he says no and then oh wait yeah let me try I'll just steal some from here yeah it's a little spicy now all right some sauce with uh or rice with an unknown sauce that's definitely spicy it's really good but it is spicy how did you say that that was not spicy at first at first it was not spicy okay it is spicy rice the sauce oh my God and the chicken good I want to try it because this chicken looks really good it is I have to eat it together yeah all together no I got it it is really good yeah look at this mmm I'm surprised because I don't usually eat like meat yeah meat but yeah no the chicken's really good first meal is a success yeah so good we got all of that the nasi goreng chicken ayam with rice your mango juice and two waters for 75 000. which I will put how much that is in dollars once I know alright we left the Monas now and we're trying to walk to the SIM card store and it's still so nice and green and hot now it's really getting hot it is hot yeah but this is still super nice but it's the middle of the day I mean we'd be hot in Bangkok too but I'm still just amazed look at how green everywhere green green green green green Green Carles even across the street everywhere and we still have all day to explore if we can get SIM cards we might end up doing more than we planned we have worked 15,000 steps already and it's not even noon we have phone numbers we can use our phones now it took a while a really long time yeah but okay how weird is this so it's a prepaid card but apparently it only works in like Java and Bali Java Bali and Lombok yeah so we're going to Sumatra next week and we're gonna go to salawesi also so uh we'll have to add more money there yeah but it's really weird because like it's all Indonesia so you'd think if you have a SIM card it would work everywhere but apparently yeah different parts of the country you have to pay separate so that's a little weird but hopefully we can use it the whole time I don't know at least it's working now so we can use Google Maps and get around the rest of Jakarta it's the Indonesian tuk-tuk yeah right but they are just TukTuks right Masjid Istiqlal or something like that entrance five where do we go hopefully there's somewhere to rent clothes though or I won't be going much farther shoes off and in here we're in the woman's entrance following a security person to the tourist registration yeah he's the only guy it's so weird yeah it's like you're not allowed to be here but you are so the security lady brought us here in the women's entrance like Carles and now we're here with three other I guess tourists and she said wait 10 minutes so we're just gonna wait here and someone's gonna come take us somewhere but it's really awkward to be here like in shorts you are allowed to take a picture or make a video inside okay there's a tour schedule and we happen to get here five minutes before nice thank you you look cute yeah nice we're all covered now he said we can take as many pictures and videos as we want and I'm pretty sure this is free so cool so our tour guide Yusuf was saying this mosque is the third biggest in the world so there's two that are bigger in Saudi Arabia and then this is the third and it holds 200,000 people 100,000 inside and 100,000 can fit outside he said 70% of the people in Indonesia are Muslim so that's a lot yeah you can see Monas from here and our guide said it was the same architect that built Monas and the mosque and he was Christian so a Christian architect built Monas and then this mosque there's only one minaret and this whole Courtyard and the cathedral they purposefully built the mosque here right next to the cathedral to show peace and tolerance yeah the Islam and Christianity are just right next to each other yeah two religions together and they never fight but it's really cool yeah we just left the mosque here it was actually a really cool free tour and he said they have tours every day except Friday because Friday is like the day that they're praying so you can't go Friday but every other day there's tours and they just give you clothes so you can show up in shorts and it's fine and now we're going literally right across the road to the cathedral that's so cool I've never seen a cathedral like this it's yeah the design is so interesting like the top of the spiers yeah it's all Stone and then at the top it's that so nice this is as far as we can go there's no tour in here which one do you like more I really liked that we were able to do a tour there yeah because he told us so much cool info but I think it's just like amazing that the two of them are right next to each other like I think that's what makes it so amazing you can go to the mosque and after come here it was just a quick run into the cathedral yeah we could not go farther yeah it was nice it was nice to see we have to find a Tuktuk now I want to ride a tuktuk yeah after we walked past all those tuktuks earlier now Carles wants one so we are like a 15 minute drive to the next place we want to go to so yeah I mean maybe there's a bus I'm not sure but I think we're yeah I think we're gonna try out a tuktuk if we can grab one here we asked how much to where we're going the old town area he said 100,000 we we made it for 50 yeah we said 50 and he said okay which is double grab but it's okay at least we're not gonna get wet because it seems it's gonna rain yeah it's starting to rain a little but we get to see more of the city right now and honestly I love it literally every single street is so green it is so cute and we still have to see the old town that is where we are going now yes thank you oh I don't want to jump out here we're in Kota Tua aka the big Dutch area where there was lots of like Dutch Trading um so a lot of the buildings have like Dutch architecture and it's like the old town so it's supposed to be a cute area to just walk around we are gonna go grab a coffee because we're sleepy so yeah we're gonna grab a coffee and then try and explore around here a little it looks so cute this road in front looks really cute yeah it's totally different from the rest of Jakarta that we've seen so far yeah it looks very European it looks so historical like all the buildings are just so different there's so many little artsy things pictures things you can like what is this a magic Art 3D Museum oh here's the main Square ah I see the cafe that you want oh there's a cannon so many people here seriously so many people there's so many more people than I was expecting yeah yeah and it's so cute doesn't it seem like we're back in like Europe seriously it looks like Europe like the square and like a city yeah yeah and these cannons here oh there's all the bikes ah so we can rent bikes and yeah you want to bike around I kind of like walking but it would be fun to bike we have done a lot of exercise today yeah I'm fine just going to a cafe yeah let's grab a coffee and we can decide when we get a coffee Cannon oh he's getting on the cannon okay live music oh yeah there's a stage back there more cannons this is so cool this is where we are going Cafe Batavia it's also the perfect time for us to grab a coffee because it looks like it's gonna pour right now it started raining when we were in the tuktuk it did it rained a tiny bit and then it stopped but it's so dark right now it's crazy it's like we are in Belgium I'm excited to see the inside of it I think the coffee might feel we can sit outside you want to? the music's down here yeah oh there's cakes do you want cake maybe this is cool in the menu it has like the history of the cafe and it says it was constructed between 1805 and 1950 and it's the second oldest building after the Jakarta History Museum so it's so old we're in history right here and it's not that expensive no? coffee is like 40K it's cheaper than at Starbucks really yeah so there you go cheaper than Starbucks and these cakes up here look good and there's a band over there there's live music this looks amazing the tiramisu you would probably love this looks amazing how cute is it here? so cute even the toilets are so cute really oh I can't wait to see it's full of pictures like this nice this looks so so so so so good I wanted to wait for my coffee but yeah try it amazing you look like it's amazing I love it oh my God it's amazing? it's the best dessert we've had in so long really really good we have the coffees are you happy now I mean we walked a lot today so we deserve all of this we're leaving the cafe and it's raining it's not that bad it's not really bad maybe it was bad though because this was so busy and now everyone's gone oh nope it's raining yeah where do we go we need to make a plan we're just walking in the rain yeah Pretend We're in the Netherlands we have been out walking all day I think yeah we might end day one in a little now? maybe yeah and then I don't know I don't know because we still have so many things we want to do we have to go to Chinatown there's a beach in Jakarta yeah we have to try all the food yeah we haven't we just had lunch we got to try two things but yeah there's still so much we want to do here but it was an amazing first day yeah the coolest first day in a long time yeah Jakarta is definitely worth it seriously yeah we didn't think but yeah it is worth it yeah one week to discover more places yeah we're here for a whole week so let us know where to go but yeah let's go back now let's go okay bye
