alrighty hello guys it is doug here i am in saudi arabia in southern saudi arabia and i'm super excited because it is my first time uh coming this far south uh in the kingdom and it is just mind-blowingly beautiful i'm in a place right now a small area called wadiel rail i hope i said that right i mean just look behind me it is absolutely spectacular in fact we drove up here from a small town kind of down in the valley and i'll show you some of those shots as we're coming up the road it was literally like zigzagging up the side of a mountain super steep and really really unique and man this is not what you expect uh back home i think for most people in america when you think of saudi arabia you think of desert and camels and all the stereotypical saudi stuff but this landscape is incredible so up here in this small village that we're exploring right now they grow a lot of bananas and coffee so you can see it being grown all over and the really really unique and uh cool thing i think especially for saudi because you never see water anywhere is that there's fresh water flowing down from the mountains here which is why it makes it such an ideal place to grow these crops here wow anyway we are going to be exploring uh more of the south of saudi in the next at least couple videos i'm not sure how i'll break it up yet but i'm going to be going to jizan tonight i'm going to be going to abha tomorrow and i will be taking you guys along for the journey it's going to be a lot of fun all right let's go up this is going to be the best view oh my gosh wow oh it's really old building too huh that's amazing it's maybe more than 100 years so cool [Music] it's so cool all the little tunnels and different stairs and everything yeah it's it is as is from maybe let's say more than 70 years wow it's really built right into the side of the mountain huh yeah it is somebody's village their home so they built it on the side of the mountain because of the way the water runs down for growing all the the different uh bananas and coffee and everything over there because i see okay so it's strategic wow so this is how they uh oh this is all banana here yeah wow so they really like they really flood it with water to make it grow they need a lot of water creepy see the banana tree after it gives its bananas a small small tree comes right behind it ah that happens automatically automatically interesting you see that one it is the sun of that one then they cut the mother [Music] man this is not what most people would expect saudi arabia to look like so amazing i can't believe this so all right guys i want to introduce you to abdulrahman yes he's uh showing me around here which is super nice thank you so much nice to meet you thank you likewise you are welcome and your uh viewers and followers are also welcome that's really nice you hear that so we have come across from where we were uh to a cafe now uh but you can see that that grouping of buildings up there that little village is where i was before where all the previous shots were taken so we've come across and you can you can really see from here how it's it's just nestled on top of this little peak up here and all this is the tiered uh farm basically where they're growing all the bananas and and coffee and it's just really really cool and all around here is just uh buildings and and like farming kind of planted on these steps up the sides of the mountain and that's all for the the way the water works and you can even see if you look here if you look closely you can see all the piping and stuff so they're bringing the water all to all the different spots along the mountain [Music] all right guys we are stopping now for some dinner before i get on the road to jazan and we've stopped for math b right yes and you were saying how did they cook it motherb and how they cook it uh they they grill it on hot stones wow okay and yeah we were just outside and it's super smoky and a bunch of guys out there grilling a ton of meat so i'm very excited and by the way this is mr abdullah welcome he's also been showing me around today and uh so kind and you were saying that you you you put the meat in honey here huh yeah that's pretty pretty unique yeah they like to eat grilled beef with honey amazing it is a custard in the south yeah awesome i'm excited to try it thank you all right let's give it a try i've got some beef here and bread let's try it with the honey here we go hmm so good how's the mixture salty i love it yeah salty sweet yeah just like the flavor of salted caramel pretty much yeah it totally works i never would have thought to do that but it's really good anyway i'm done filming i'm very hungry and we're gonna eat up so i'll see you after i realized i forgot to mention earlier just in case anyone's interested uh the drive from jeddah where i started today to a majada which was the town um kind of at the base of that beautiful wadi where i took all those shots that drive was about five hours and then it was about another five hours from there to here in jason so i've driven about 10 hours today listen to a ton of podcasts but i'm very tired ready to get some sleep and even more ready to go explore jason tomorrow morning so i will see you guys then good night hello guys i'm back i'm officially out exploring jazan and i am here with my friend thank you he's throwing me around today super super nice of him and he's just brought us to a seafood restaurant and i mean just look at all the food we've got here it is incredible i'm so excited it looks amazing i've had this kind of seafood uh like the whole fried fish and everything in saudi before and it's incredible i'm too excited to film so i'm gonna eat up and then i'll catch you guys after we're done see ya alrighty guys quick update i basically spoke to a few friends and realized that i really don't have enough time unfortunately in jizan to do the things that one should do when visiting jazan unfortunately i only have one day here and it's just not enough time so i am going to be heading to abha to maximize my time there and the good news is that we're going to have full experience in abha so heading there now i will have to come back and see jason in greater detail but that's good because it gives me something else to look forward to another reason to come back to saudi again but i do think it was worth coming just to have been able to visit guardia rail yesterday that was amazing so anyway we're heading to abhan now so stay tuned and uh i think it's gonna be a lot of fun oh and one more thing i'm uh sporting my new the mo show podcast t-shirt thank you mo for uh giving this to me i love it my favorite color actually yeah if you haven't already go watch the episode it's a lot of fun and i will link it in the description below alright now off to abha [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] so nice [Laughter] [Music] wow with honey honey is very famous here right yes down here in the south saudi in this area from this area in saudi arabia that's what i hear this is amazing thank you so much so this meal has been prepared it's all traditional food from this region in southern saudi it looks and more importantly smells so good and i'm really excited like that okay so you just take a ball in your hand wow okay perfect i'm gonna try it all right so this is called a seed okay first make a ball this is this has almost like a like a play-doh material and it's it's made of wheat oh thank you okay this one is ready-made so you give it a dunk in the soup which is made from the meat and you get a little bit it's like a little cup of gahuwa mine looks kind of lame [Music] it's really chewy and the dough itself doesn't have too much flavor but when you put it in the soup it's so good hey guys real quick i want to give a huge thank you to skillshare for sponsoring this video skillshare is an online learning community offering thousands of voila why don't you introduce yourself uh tell everybody what your name is and how old are you my name you're seven years old i think you speak better english than me we can show everyone this this [Music] can you tell me what it is this what are those yeah guns guns what do they use them for like so you use the guns for the dance yes and to like make this like this oh they're running yeah wow you're a good tour guide you know that so everything here is super colorful which is i think pretty unique to the south uh to the asir region okay i'm following you so this is an old uh traditional house from the asir region of saudi okay we're continuing oh we made it up to the top maybe is this the light there we go wow oh my gosh yeah so this whole place is like a giant compound that's basically part museum part home part restaurant we're out of the house now okay everything's so colorful huh my favorite color is green saudi saudi color oh this is the coolest place i think huh okay so we came down now this is like a big museum right yes and it's okay so they get the water from the well there basically this is all really old traditional stuff from the asir region here and they've also got a huge hall right here that is absolutely enormous and they'll use it for weddings and other gatherings and special occasions it's very very cool this is big gawa lots of coffee beans huh oh well thanks not as good as your english though not even close actually so this place where i am uh basically has hosted every prominent uh saudi leader a lot of foreign leaders there's prince charles looking very dapper in his um bish i think over here they've got uh notes signed these ones have been like engraved uh from all the different visitors from all over the world so you've got one from leslie stahl here and the 60 minutes crew see it says the best host at the best village and the best banquet thank you for a splendid meal with interesting talk we came to learn and we left with friends and there is mine i filled it out earlier just saying thank you and maybe they'll go on the wall who knows this place is absolutely enormous it's just full of asir culture and and artifacts alrighty guys i am here now on the outskirts of abha not actually staying in abha city but i'm in the region in asia province it's definitely chillier here but it's absolutely beautiful i decided uh
