DESTINATION ESCAPE - Ein Schrecken am Morgen | Episode 2 /7 | Switzerland Tourism

Show Video

Four strangers accept the challenge of a lifetime and come to Basel, after an anonymous letter invited them to take part in a mysterious adventure. They follow their first lead, which takes them to a historic bank vault. From there, they will travel all over Switzerland to steal keys from several rich, shady people, so they can open the safety deposit boxes and return the money to the victims of their crooked deals.

Somebody named Charlie is behind the Samaritan organization, and he is testing their ability to work as a team in a great puzzle challenge at the Basel theater. From there, they go to their first mission at the clock museum of Chaux-de-Fonds, where things get serious. After some initial troubles, they come through and get their first keys. After that, they travel across the country to Davos, where they will spend the night at the famous Schatzalp hotel.

But what is waiting for them at this time-honored hotel on top of the mountain? The traditional holiday destination Davos Klosters with its international flair is located at 1,560 meters above sea level and is a well-known mountain town in the Swiss Alps. The first winter tourists arrived here back in 1865. Team! Welcome to the Schatzalp, a true gem of Davos, that hides a dark past. This place was once a sanatorium run by the renowned chief resident Dr. Karl Rüg. Thanks to his innovative treatment methods, Dr. Rüg became very wealthy. However, he did not hide his keys in obvious places, but hid them carefully in Wing C, the quarters of his last patient, Helga Brunner.

Helga suffered from severe mental illness and was particularly sensitive to light, which put her into an uncontrollable state of aggression. Daylight was her greatest enemy, so she lived in complete darkness. That is why the doctor chose to hide his keys there.

Be warned: because of the darkness, you should meet Helga at eye level.” You guys go ahead and do this. Number 1: I hate horror movies. Number 2: I hate everything to do with spook houses.

And then here it is all at once. “Enter the wing blind, guided by the eyes of your friends and only go in alone. Anything else could have fatal consequences.” Blind? “My assistant will give you further instructions. Good luck. Charlie.” Beautiful hotel, had a great breakfast, everyone is looking forward to the day. And then we get a challenge like this. I even said yesterday that this looks like a sanatorium.

I think I’ll do it. You’ll do it? I’ll do it. Ok then, go ahead and do it. Yeah, Sabrina! Okay.

Okay. I think we can go ahead and turn this on. As if he were part of the team.

Mayday, Mayday. For heaven’s sake. Hi. A pleasure, hello. You’re prepared, right? Yes.

You know why you’re here, right? Suddenly this guy came in, super nervous. Listen up, here’s the thing. The doctor has four keys. Yeah, total nutcase, I mean there’s something really wrong with that guy. So, the thing is this. He’s hidden them down there, in the basement, right?

There is a little problem. Down there, a former patient of his. Helga! Helga was her name. She turned a little crazy,

so he locked her up down there. If it gets light down there, then she has a problem, she goes nuts, you understand? She is down there. You have to understand, she is down there. And she is all that stands between you and these damned keys, ok? She’s still alive? Of course she’s still alive. Listen up, I have an idea for you, okay? We send one of you down there with this camera. We blindfold you.

If you make eye contact with her, then it’s all over right then. We send you down there in the dark and the others direct the person that’s down there, okay? I’ll tell you the way in a second. But we have to agree on signs. This here means “Okay”. Can you remember that? “Okay”. This means “I’m scared”, okay? “I’m scared.”

And this means “Repeat”. Okay? “Okay”, “I’m scared”, “Repeat”. Can you all work with that? You all have to go down there.

There’s two other important things. You can’t run, and you can’t walk backwards down there. The basement is not straightened up, of course, and if you crash into things and it gets loud or something, then she might really lose it.

Ah, the thing is this. Let me do you a drawing. God, my stress level right now. This here? This here is the basement. There are stairs. I’ll lead you as far as this door. In front of this door. You wait there until I give you the OK. You don’t go through that door, until you have the OK. Somewhere here—

you’ll see that with the camera, so keep your eyes open— you’ll see a chair. On the chair is what we want. The goddamn key.

Key number 1. Not that complicated, is it? That’s just scrawling. That didn’t help at all. It only confused me more.

Our time down there is limited. The longer you are down there, the more likely it is that she’ll notice you. And if she notices you, then we have a problem.

It could be that you see steps. That you might see things, where she has to duck. You let me know. Can you do that?

Yes. And warn her, if you see that damned patient, okay? Yes. Okay. Good. Good. Oh my God. Yeah, good thing you’re going first.

There might be one or two things happening down there that are maybe a little unusual. But don’t worry about that, okay? Ah... Don’t worry about it. You are totally sacrificing me. Good. Good.

Remember, you still need me, alright? Okay. The communication is one way. That might be important for you. That’s why we agreed on those hand signals, okay? You won’t be able to talk. You’ll only hear them.

All four of our participants have to take a turn at going into the old patient wing, where Helga does her mischief. The place is in complete darkness, and on top of that they have to go through it blind, to guard against any possible curses. They wear a helmet camera with a head lamp and carry a walkie talkie.

The signal is transmitted to the screen, so the remaining three can guide the blind person via radio. But communication is one way and the person in the basement can only receive and give hand signals in response. While the person below is blind and can hear the noises around them, the rest of the team can see, but hears nothing. One after the other, they have to go to four areas to get a key from each one.

The mission is successful when they have all four keys and have come safely out of the wing. Follow me, follow me. He seems a little panicky, no? Should I be panicking too? Ah, don’t let it stress you out. It all sounds pretty

relaxed, I would say. This way. That’s almost even more spooky to be here watching.

Oh God. Oh God. Oh God.

Woah, I want to go next. Please. And go! Okay, if you just go straight now, there’s nothing in front of you. And now turn 15 degrees to the right. 45, sorry.

Wow. Good, now: there’s just a long hallway? Okay, the ceiling is alright, too. You can just go straight ahead normally.

Keep a little more to the right. Yes. Exactly. Go ahead and take a bigger step. Now go a little to the left. There’s a chair coming up to your left.

A little left. Exactly. But there’s nothing on it. Go a little further down. Stop, stop, stop.

Okay. Yeah, there’s a chair right in front of you. But you can go to the right around the chair and then keep going straight ahead. Okay, 45 degrees to the left. Okay, very good. Look up a little bit, please.

A little... Stop. Okay. We see the key.

We see the key, we see nothing else. Ok, now take three steps straight ahead. But keep to the right. Real quick: should we tell her that she’s standing right in front of her? No. I wouldn’t do that. Don’t tell her. Stop, stop.

Okay, stop, stop, stop, stop. A little further to the left. We’re just looking. Look up a little bit.

Woah. Where is the key? It must be on the chair. Can you go a little further down? Go into a squat.

Sabrina, there is a person... We have to tell her. The poor thing. ... two meters in front of you, and she’s fallen to the floor now. Is it on the chair? There is a chair to your right. Feel for it.

Right, down. Get on your knees. Touch the chair. There’s a chair in front of you.

Okay, push it to the left. And there is a key, maybe. Is there a key? Repeat? Look to your right. A little further to the left.

Is there a key anywhere? Right, right, right, right. Crawl a little to the right. Shit, that was not a good idea. We shouldn’t have done that. Okay, no, no, the key must be on the floor. Stop, stop, stop, stop.

Okay, don’t be afraid. We’ll put up the chair so nobody can get to you. You’ll put up the chair? Forget the damn chair. Where is the key? There must be a key on the floor.

You have to feel for it, we can’t see anything. Get on your knees. There’s nothing there. Okay, repeat. On the right side next to the wall.

There has to be a key somewhere on the floor. Oh, behind you. Turn around 180 degrees. You’re looking right at it. It’s directly in front of you. Down, down, down.

A little further forward, there it is. Yeah, exactly. And now just stand straight up. Stand straight up and go to... Turn...

Yes. Turn 45 degrees to the left. Okay, now take a step forward. Okay, turn a little more to the left by 45 degrees. Okay, one big step straight ahead. Straight ahead, big step forward.

Big step forward. You can do it, there’s nothing there. There is nothing in front of you. So the worst is behind you.

And one big step. Keep going, keep going, keep going, keep going. You’re doing really well. Stop. Is she there? I’ll go get her, okay? Stay there, stay there, we’re getting you out of there.

You did a great job. We’ve got the key. I wish I had gone in first. Sabrina! Fuck. My heart right now, if you could hear it.

I’m still shaking from the excitement. I’m glad I didn’t have to go first. Because if I had known what was lurking down there... As it is, at least I knew what goes on down there. Sabrina didn’t know anything. She just went in there blind and then got surprised.

By our best friend Helga. When I was down there I actually had wobbly legs. Did you get it when we said, “There is somebody there?” Yeah, yeah, I thought... But you didn’t know about that. I was hearing things the whole time. A ball flew by me, somebody was moving around.

So I was hearing noises too. I knew somebody was there. But you should have seen those pictures. You’ll probably get to see them in a minute. That was...

Well, I almost thought watching was worse. Yeah, I’m going next. The hallway was just the beginning.

The next person has to go into Helga’s private rooms to find the next key there. Just go straight for a bit. Does anyone remember the room number? Yeah, 8. Stop! Stop! Look to your left. Look to your left. There’s nothing there.

A little more to the left. And now up. K6. You’re at K6, you have to go two doors down. Exactly, that direction, that’s right.

Straight ahead. Straight ahead. Straight ahead. Look out, on the left, don’t hit your head.

But exactly, just keep going straight. That’s right. You’re headed straight for the door. Look to your left. Now the door should be in front of you.

Look out, look out, step and watch your head. The door is directly to your left. Exactly, left, that’s good. The door is closed. You’re already touching it, you just have to find the handle. And then there’s another step.

And Helga. Perfect. Good.

Right now there’s nothing in front of you yet. Then go straight a few more steps. Yes. And now look to your right.

Yes. To the right. He can hear her. Yes. That’s the bed.

Behind the bed is the dresser. If you go along the bed now... Yeah, exactly. Right, stop for now. Good. Okay, now take a small step forward. And now look to your right.

Okay. Yes, a little further to the right. Turn around once. All the way around. Can you hear us? Okay, turn around once 180 degrees.

Oh, he’s got the key. Ah, okay. You have the key. Okay, okay. Stop, stop, stop. Yeah, yeah, she’s not there anymore, she’s not there.

She’s jumping on the bed. Go backwards out the door. Okay. Don’t walk backwards. We can’t see where you’re going.

There’s a chair there somewhere. Yes, really you better turn around and walk forwards. What did he do? He was just shaking so bad with the key in his hand. For heaven’s sake.

But Helga harassed him. That was insane. That was so cocky. Guys, you do know that this is going to keep getting more intense? No, he was acting so cool. I just grabbed at everything. Oh, I can’t take any more of this.

No. Maybe the other two will survive too. I could see nothing. Yes.

What happened? Yeah, she was jumping around the room the whole time. And then on the bed... And she touched you once. She tickled me. But you heard her, didn’t you? I felt her. Yeah, exactly.

She must have been right in front of me. She just wanted to tickle you a little. You really are shaking. You know nothing is going to happen to you. But when you’re in that situation, you just can’t imagine, it suddenly feels real.

How’s your heart? Good. Who wants to go next? I need to use the bathroom real quick before I do this. Okay, let’s close this first. Test, test, test. Where do I have to go? Again, someone has to enter Helga’s room and find a second key. Will she be so friendly again about welcoming another visitor? There’s a pipe coming up.

And behind it is the door. Now turn to your left please. Look up please. Okay, we have to go down one more door. You are at K7. You’re doing really great.

Keep calm. Keep going. The next door on the left is K8. That’s our room. Exactly.

So, open the door. Down a little. Okay. Very carefully. The room seems to be empty still.

Squat down and look straight ahead. Look to your right please. Okay, the room seems to be empty. Okay, there’s a cupboard to your left. Okay, the drawer.

Look inside it please. Right, open it up. Okay, it’s empty. It’s empty.

Next go down. It’s all good. It’s all good. There’s another drawer above that you forgot.

Okay, it’s not that one either. Further down. It’s not that one either. Then there’s a closet to your right. Open the closet doors please.

Forward a little, exactly. Down, down. Squat down, please. 45 degrees to the left. There’s a knob, pull on it please.

Okay, open the door. Okay, seems there’s no key in there. Okay, close it please.

And move further forward. There’s another closet. Okay, listen, if you hear something...

One step straight ahead first. Okay, very good. Okay, what’s going on? Is everything okay? Thumb? Are you scared? Is everything okay? Left. Turn please. Okay, she is above you on top of the closet. But everything is okay? Super.

You turn to the left. And open the closet please. Would you look up a little bit please?. Please take your right hand and stick it out ahead of you. There’s nothing there.

A little further up. Exactly. Exactly. It’s all good.

A little further to the right. Stop, stop. Open that up please. There’s nothing there.

Okay. We have to go back to the other closet. Sorry. And there... Right, move up.

Up. Top right. There should be another door there too. Yeah, that’s super. Open it. And now...

Look a little further up. Stop. Maybe on the left, there’s another drawer. Okay, then further to the left please. And close it again. And in front of you...

Look up a little please. Look further up. Okay. All the way on top.

Look right please. To the right. Stop. Stop. And now take your hand.

There’s nothing in front of you. Okay, everything’s okay. Very good.

Move your hand down a little further. There’s a knob. Right, right, right. Stop. Open it please.

You’re doing great. And now there’s a key in front of you. Reach in there. To the right. Stop, stop. Okay. And now... Everything is okay. She’s lying in front of you, she’s not doing anything.

You go left. Stop. Right, now take a big step forward. There’s a door. Grab the big knob and open the door please.

Okay. Big step outside. And close the door behind you quickly. Straight ahead.

You can run your right hand along the wall. Just take big steps straight ahead. There is nothing in front of you. Okay, now there’s something behind you.

Best turn around again. And now keep going forward. Everything is okay. Just keep going forward.

Okay, we can move forward a little faster. Everything’s okay. Everything’s okay.

She just wants love. Look straight ahead. Everything’s okay. You’re almost home.

Okay. And now please turn left 90 degrees. Stop.

And forward, forward, forward. Exactly. Yes, you made it. See you soon. That’s disgusting, the way she crawls around down there.

I’ll handle that easy. Well done. I think I shit my pants more than she did. The watching is insane.

Yes. Annika really did a great job. Was she screaming and laughing the whole time when you were there, too? Yes. Really? She wasn’t doing that when I was down there. She did with me, too. Then that closet was wobbling really bad.

She climbed up on it, down again, like Tarzan. Excellent. Super. For heaven’s sake. Throw the key over there. One more.

Now that we’ve taken care of the lion’ s den, there’s only one last key. Okay? We’ve almost made it. I wouldn’t exactly say that it’s getting easier.

So... The last key is in a different room: the men’s toilet. That means the last person again has to venture into unfamiliar territory. This time you’re not going through there. Over here there’s a restroom.

Okay? A men’s restroom, to be exact. Somewhere in one of the two showers the doctor must have left the last key. Okay? Do you remember the hand signals? “Okay”, “I’m scared” and “Repeat”. I think Lukas was actually glad that Sabrina went down. And then they said we all have to go down.

And I’m not so sure it was strategically clever to wait until the end. Ready when you are. Okay.

A big step forward. You’re standing in the hallway. Awful.

Forward, forward, forward. Stop. Turn right. Stop. Straight ahead. Exactly. You can use your right hand and run it along the wall.

Stop. There is a door to your right. Can you look up real quick... No, more to the left. Okay, this is the ladies’ restroom. We need to go further left. And now straight ahead.

Straight ahead. A little further to the right. You’re pulling to the left a little. Perfect. Keep on straight ahead.

There is nothing in front of you. Everything is okay. Okay. You’re going to stop now and turn to the right please. There’s a door, exactly. Oh God! We can’t see anything, sorry.

There’s a door in front of you, exactly. And there’s a knob, further down with your hand. And forward, right there And now please open the door. Oh, sorry, the handle of course. Okay, you’re walking into the bathroom. Perfect.

And now there’s a shower in front of you. And on the right... Nothing.

Okay, you go to the left. Stop. Straight ahead, straight ahead. Exactly. There’s a curtain. A little further left. Open the curtain.

And go inside please. It’s all good. You’re almost in the shower. Now look to your right please. Stop. There are two showers.

Exactly, now you can push the curtain to the left. Okay, there’s... Okay, let’s go to the other shower.

Let’s go to the other shower. Turn to your right please. Turn to your right please. Turn to the right.

No, no, no. Leave that shower alone for now. Turn to the right a little bit. One step forward. Exactly. And there’s a curtain.

Move it to the side please. Exactly. And now look down please. Look down. There’s a bucket. But I don’t see a key.

Get on your knees please. And move that bucket out of the way. Exactly. Yeah, go ahead and empty it. Yeah, but we have to take a close look. Okay, there’s nothing in it.

Listen. There’s another shower to your left. But it’s not exactly empty. Yes.

Helga is in it. Helga. Listen. Up here we can’t help. We can only try to calm the situation. Okay.

Is everything okay? Please give us the signal. Okay. She just wants to get past you. She’s gone. Ok, listen.

Can you get on your knees please? You did a great job there. Up, up, up. Stop, stop, stop. Straight ahead there’s something hanging there. Straight ahead, straight ahead.

Okay, right, right, right. Stop, a little further to the left. Ahead of you on the wall.

Down, down, down. There’s the key. You did a great job there. Yes, okay. Now take some steps forward.

She is opening the door for you. How nice. Keep on straight ahead. Keep on straight ahead. Everything is okay. Keep on straight ahead. Keep going.

She’s out of the bathroom. You’re in there alone for now. First you have to open the door in front of you. There’s the handle, exactly.

Open it. Okay, stop. Stop, stop, everything is okay. Turn to the right. She’s just cleaning up the basement. Let her do it.

You have to turn a little more to the left. Stop and then straight. Straight, straight, straight, straight. Nothing can happen. Just walk carefully straight ahead. You’re doing great.

Let’s take a quick look if you’re ok? Whether Helga is ok, too. Okay, keep on straight ahead. Straight ahead, straight ahead. You’ve almost made it. Almost there. Ok, look out. She’s crawling around in front of you. Everything’s okay.

One more step straight ahead. She’s there on the floor. Everything is okay. Oh, okay.

Helga has left the basement. And we have a huge problem. What’s his name again? Where did he go? He just ran away in a panic.

She’s out! She’s out! She’s out! You saw it too, didn’t you? Yes. She ran off, dammit! We have to catch her. I’ll think of something. Charlie or I, we’ll contact you.

I’ll tell you what to do next. We have to catch her. If we don’t get our hands on her, she’ll do God only knows what out there.

Will you help me? Yes? Good. Shit. I’ll prepare everything. I think we better give you some valerian to calm down. We have a note. Oh. In the key.

Did you fall down? Yes. Did you get startled? Yeah, she suddenly... I can’t do this right now. Okay...

Should we read out loud? It’s half a patient registration form. “Patient registration form. Name: Brenner, Helen. September 3, 1982.” But there are numbers crossed out here. “Millenniumweg, Davos, Sertig.

1.63 meters tall, female, single.” “Referring physician” there’s just lines. “Occupation: Nun. Sertig church.” That’s probably some symbol and “Religion: catholic”. “Comments: The patient speaks...”

That’s where the form is torn off. Fluent German. “Patient 8752.

Sanatorium.” Was there an address on it? Could it be that that’s where she wants to go? Probably. Home. Should we go to Millenniumweg too? Could it be that her name isn’t Helga but Helen? Helen, yes. And we keep calling her Helga.

Millenniumweg, here in Davos? Nun. I happen to have a map here. For you, if you want to find the Millenniumweg on it.

Where did you get this now? From the information booth. That must mean something too, that these things here are crossed out. But “Sertig church” is so clearly marked in red. Sertig church... Maybe the dear girl just wants to relax and go to church. Davos Sertig, of course.

The scenery of the Sertig valley is one of the most popular day trip and hiking destinations of Davos Klosters. In the farthest reaches of the romantic side valley Sertig, farmsteads still characterize the landscape today. That was the first time that we could actually see the nature that Switzerland has to offer. Helga’s patient file led our adventurers to a small, old village church. There, they have to follow the former patient to find something that once belonged to her, before she was driven out of her clear mind. It was a very, very beautiful old church, just the way you’d imagine it: creaky, all sorts of nooks and crannies.

Can we get this...? No. Good, puzzle number one. For heaven’s sake. I think I found a key, guys. Here’s a carpet.

I have a box. Could it be that the lock fits this key here exactly? Let me see. It was definitely with her name. For heaven’s sake. Oh God.

Oh, well great. Isn’t that one of those Da Vinci things? Yes. Oh boy.

Here’s the other part of the form, too. “The patient speaks in foreign tongues and is extremely sensitive to light. Therapy applied to date are of limited effect.

She is extremely aggressive, because she is possessed by a demon.” “Medication: The patient was put on pregabalin. Medication three times daily, 0.25.” That looks like that bridge.

Like a bridge. Ah, a viaduct. What we found then was a drawing, a sketch of a bridge or a smart-alecky viaduct, as I learned then. There’s a bunch of those in Switzerland, but we just headed for the nearest one.

So then we went for a stroll through nature. This is definitely a little higher than I thought. Oh boy. Stop, stop, stop. There’s something there already. We didn’t know exactly how the tasks were divided. I only knew that Annika and I will stay up here and do the number puzzle, the other two keep going. After they have reached the viaduct, our group splits up into two teams.

One group solves the number puzzles using the patient file, the other goes looking for a distant viewing platform, so they can read what the banners say. Yeah, dammit, this is great. Excellent. Here, what about medications? We have, right, 0.25 here. Oh, excellent. We had the note with the number code and we figured that out relatively quickly. Ok, what does the birth date stand for, I think place of birth. But then I think it was about the street.

House, house, house. Millennium is 2000. Excellent. Yes! Excellent. Yes. Is Niko trying to tell us something? I can’t see.

No, I don’t think so. They are trying to read it themselves, but maybe we should just go over to them, because we can read it easy. If those are all the letters, we can let them know. I think that’s all of them. Yeah. “Escape” And we can remember that well. “Escape!” The word is “Escape!” If you enter the wrong code, then what they say about the thing is that the message inside dissolves.

So then we knew okay, we have to handle it carefully. That was really difficult, by the way. Uh oh. Guys, maybe you shouldn’t do this on the bridge? Yeah, yeah.

It’ll be okay. I think there’s something solid in there, no? Yes, there’s a note. A note and a key.

We can’t let it be blown away here. Exactly. Hold on to it tight, Sabrina. It’s just a note, right? Yeah. I’m a little bit scared. Okay.

“The key is to my favorite place. Mama.” “Momo”? Then we got this Da Vinci thing open and it said something about Momo or something like that. Nobody got it.

We didn’t know at all what that meant. But it was also not written clearly. You have to say that whoever wrote that note, their handwriting needs improvement.

What? “The key is...” “The key to my favorite place...” That’s written all wrong here too. Yeah, Helga isn’t exactly young anymore. So we had a key and a note and the key is to her favorite place. And that seems to be Momò Bellavista.

And we didn’t know where to go. So we just asked a train conductor and he gave us a tip. Southern Switzerland, to the south of Switzerland.

So now we’re taking the train. “Bella Vista.” Are we there? We’re there! Heeeey! We had such a spectacular view and I don’t know, we were all so unbelievably hungry. And we ate everything on that platter in minutes. You can’t even imagine.
