Chaotic Arrival In Karachi, Pakistan
I am at the airport in Dubai about to board a flight to go to Karachi Pakistan it's going to be my first time in Pakistan and I will be spending the next few weeks traveling around the country and yeah the plan for today is to hopefully arrive stressfree in one of the biggest cities in the world then figure out how to get to my hotel I book one of the best hotels in town and then get some first impressions of Pakistan of course I'm also curious to try some good Pakistani food later today I'm sure it's going to be an eventful day so join me and let's go to Pakistan yeah Pakistan is not really known to be a popular tourist destination for Western Travelers so it's no surprise that I am the only Western now on this flight and I'm flying with fly Dubai today I just had a short Transit layover here in Dubai and touching the plane for good luck Hi how are you this one here first impression of this Airline actually looks quite nice right but yeah to be honest I am actually a bit nervous to go to Pakistan a few days ago I announced on my Instagram that I'm going to Pakistan and these were some of the comments that I received be careful of the Pakistan be safe Pakistan is full of Islamic if you have hope to live then don't visit Pakistan never been there some parts might be dangerous don't go it's dangerous don't go not to Safe country take care and yeah if you do receive a lot of comments like this it makes something with your head and also just 2 or 3 weeks ago this happened near the airport in Karachi where I'm flying to today so yeah to be completely honest I am a bit nervous to go there but I'm also very very excited many of my friends have already been to Pakistan and they only told me good things about the country so I'm actually looking forward to the trip thank you and we have arrived in Karachi Pakistan let's see how the arrival process will be like here okay let's see how easy it will be to actually enter the country to be honest this was the toughest visa I ever had to get although I have to admit with a German passport I am very spoiled most of the countries I can enter either visa free or I get visa on arrival but here in Pakistan I actually had to apply for a visa in advance and it was quite a long process the whole process took about 7-8 days and cost me in total about $100 including a fee for an agency because at least with a German passport you need a Letter of Invitation from a travel agency and order to get the Pakistan Visa but yeah I know I am very spoiled with my German passport for many people this is just a normal process to get the visa to be honest I think that I was the only tourist on this flight so I don't expect long cues at the immigration area I have health checks here that reminds me of the Year 2020 2021 coming from I'm from Dubai only Dubai why Dubai Dubai yeah okay thank you okay and here we have the immigration area see you hopefully soon on the other side all right and I am in Pakistan that was literally a thing of of 3 minutes very easy very straightforward and yeah I don't have luggage to collect traveling light just with this one backpack and basically behind the luggage collection area we are already outside oh okay let's see how the arrival here is yeah I need cash I need to find an ATM I don't need a SIM card because I'm using an eim more infos about that later and then I need to figure out how to get to my hotel which is uh quite in the city center Pachi oh oh my God that is a sound you don't want to hear at an airport W it looks like they are celebrating that this guy is coming back oh my gosh uh okay ATM um I see a big sign Pepsi over there so looks like they prefer Pepsi over Coca-Cola excuse me where can I find ATM ATM is over there okay thank you all right looks like the ATM is on the other side I'm very very excited to be in Pakistan actually this is a trip I already planned one and a half years ago one and a half years ago I already had the Visa I already had my flight book to no thank you no thank you I already had my flight booked I already had a hotel booked and then 2 days before the flight I got horrible food poisoning while I was in Nepal so then I had to cancel the whole trip to Pakistan so this trip is 1 and A2 years late but I'm happy to finally be here and yeah I heard so many good things about Pakistan especially about the hospitality here like I said many of my friends have been here before they all told me only good things so I'm very excited to explore Pakistan for the next 2 to 3 weeks let's hope the ATM Works so1 us equals to about 277 Pakistani rupia at the moment okay there's something written in rudo here which I can't read and nothing is happening okay that's not a good start excuse me can you read this yeah what does it say cuz nothing is happening jubbly like insurance insurance yeah jub like insurance I don't need insurance now I can't click anything all right take number two maybe I'm trying a smaller amount now maybe the amount was a problem see I can't click anything I yeah so I choose the amount amount 10,000 how many amount 10,000 10,000 but now always this screen comes to be honest I don't think that I can pay via card in the taxis here maybe I can that would be the next option then I think this is the same bank though that I just tried already I'm looking for ATM ATM domestic arrival but this one is not working only 1M only ATM at the airport there's only one ATM here at the airport and that one doesn't work I'm going to try the same ATM now with the different card maybe that will work no General processing error okay second half also not working okay so this is actually the first time this happens to me in a new country that I really can't get cash and it's a bit weird to be honest that they only have 1 atm here so let me actually check how much I need to get to my hotel so they are using a taxi app here called kareim which is basically like uber yeah not sure if I can actually use that here at the airport but let's see luckily I do have internet already so that's not a problem and now I can uh see the right here and I can see a price it says 1,376 let's do that and then later in the city I try to get cash if I use kareim I don't even need cash because the app is connected with my credit card so I can get without cash to my hotel marot hotel Karachi which by the way as I heard is one of the best hotels in town so I'm really excited for that place shallow that means let's go I think your captain is on the way great oh that's easy at least and then yeah later we figure out how I can get cash and yeah while I'm waiting for my taxi to arrive let me tell you why I don't need to get a local SIM card and to be honest that saves so much stress and hassle for me you probably notice when you arrive somewhere completely new you are excited you just want to get to your hotel as fast as possible but you're not connected to the internet yet so so you have to start searching for a local SIM card and especially here in Pakistan I heard that it's almost impossible to get a local SIM card as a foreigner so I'm really happy that I'm having an eim and if you don't know what an eim is an eim is basically a digital SIM card that you can install to your phone even before you start the journey so yesterday I downloaded and installed my Pakistan eim already and then I was able to connect to the internet right away after I landed here so literally while I was still sitting in the plane I was able to check emails and send messages and I am using a app called Holly to get my esims they have almost 200 destinations available different data plans to choose from many even with unlimited data it works super simple just choose your destination choose a data plan and then the app tells you exactly how to install everything step by step you can literally get it done in like 2 minutes it's dead simple and if you want to check out Holly as well just outside of the city and my hotel is quite in the city center of Karachi yeah the whole time I was at the airport here I haven't seen another Wester I'm not sure if Pakistan is popular for tourists maybe from the Middle East or from other Asian countries but it's definitely not a truest destination for Western Travelers seems to be a lot of security here any security here right like there like wires on the on the road so many armed guards here police military he was actually just uh telling me that I should film here right make video here he was like a film film here so yeah these are literally my first impressions of Pakistan we have people on a motorbike here three people on the bike and this is the road leading into Karachi now so these are still build some outskirts yeah Karachi is one of the biggest cities in the world I think it's currently in the top 15 most populated cities in the world with about 20 21 million people living in the whole metro area there's a big security check here at the entrance to the hotel they even have a dog going around the car and so many armed security guys here okay thank you byebye all right and let's see what $180 a I gets you in town and first impression here the room looks really spacious everything is like with this brown design that looks very unique let's check out the view H the view is nothing too special I would say so there's a little desk area here the bed looks comfy let's check out the bathroom really quick shower toilet sink area really nice and we have coffee and tea making facilities here let's see if they have anything in the mini bar no all right it is the next day actually now and yeah the main mission for today now is to get cash because yeah yesterday evening I was able to pay with my cart here for my dinner but I definitely need cash to explore the city in the next days so that is the main mission now and then I also want to get first impressions of course and I also want to try Pakistani food so these are the two missions that we have now okay let's see if I can just walk out of the hotel here this is the high security area to enter the hotel all right and here right next to the hotel is a bank actually hello so let's try my luck here and hopefully the ATM works here with my card all right Happy Days the first card I tried was not working there was an error message on the screen but then the second card I tried actually worked so I finally have cashier now hello I feel very relieved now and yeah I had a look on Google Maps and there's a place around the corner where I can get some Pakistani food I think they are selling kebabs and burgers so let's see how I can actually get there hello can I walk here or here are going uh there's a restaurant that I want to go to restaurant here's a restaurant I forgot the name something with Burger something kebab and burger there yeah but can I walk on this side can walk here yeah okay to the thank you all right the friendly policeman said I can walk on this side I have the impression that they really like to uh ride on motorbikes here and they have this very unique type of motorbike here not these typical scooters that you usually see for example in Southeast Asia it's a more unique bike here hello oh it even says unique oh I like the bike a good bike oh that was funny I literally called the bike unique unique looking and then I saw the name on the bike is actually unique oh there's a bridge here I'm not sure if I can walk over the bridge H can I walk here can can I walk yeah yeah yeah yeah over the bridge problem so what I also noticed here is they have a lot of these uh yeah I'm not sure how you call it here in Pakistan Tuk TOS or Rick Shaws or three wheelers these vehicles have many different names in different countries but I see a lot of them here on the roads people raving at me honking at me smiling hello hello oh my first impression of the people here is very nice the people seem to be very friendly and welcoming here oh look at that the local is just raising his hand and then he's crossing the road maybe that's the way to do it de all right trying the same raising the hand and crossing the road that seems to be the Pakistani way of crossing the road I know in Malaysia for example they do something similar and they call it the power of the hand all right so we do have quite a few options here this looks like a convenience store then here I think I can get a juices but I looking for a place that sells Kebab fruit Cobra Cobra Cobra you have a cobra cobra oh I can see oh does he identify what it is but I think it's some type of yogurt sauce now let me try the brown one oh the brown one definitely has a spicy kick to it I think I prefer the the right one here there has no spicy kick to the right one okay but now I'm also curious to try it with the bread let me spread some of the r sauce on the bread and then one piece of the meat and then we roll everything together and basically eating it like a r oh the bread is like a crispy type of Roti Shai parata similar like the Roti Shai in Malaysia for example or the Nan Breads in India but this one is a bit more crispy oh it's also very oily so this is a very heavy meal actually I need to learn how to say delicious here in uru that's one of the most important words you need to learn in a new country oh but the meat is amazing it's really well spiced so many different flavors combined but this is actually great as a first meal in Pakistan I think to be honest I had a meal yesterday already in my hotel but they had like a western style bouet there so this is my first Pakistani food I'm eating here yeah I was actually not able to finish everything because it was quite a big portion so I have a little booty really like sparkling water fun fact in Germany where I am from we prefer sparkling water over the regular water so if you order a water in a German restaurant you will always get sparkling water
