today's adventure we are heading to Curlew Island we've left Percy Island uh middle Percy Island that is and we are getting up to 20 knots of wind at the moment Southeast and that means that we're getting some good speed we're getting up to six and seven knots and we've got about 20 nautical miles to go the sea is pretty good like it's uh not too choppy it's really good we're in for a good day going to do a few jobs and yeah be into our Anchorage pretty early been here before welcome back if you haven't you have much to catch up on nearly 5 years ago we sold our goat farm in Victoria to hit the road in a truck and Caravan after 4 years of exploring Australia we've changed course a little selling our Caravan and buying a 48 fo yacht exploring Overland is still a priority in our truck but now we are adding the sea to our adventures oh and I forgot to mention we don't know how to [Music] sail see it's pretty good for Katty we're flying along and Katty's driving steering driving whatever you boat people call it it [Music] we are just rounding Curlew Island to head into the Anchorage woohoo it's so pretty and we might just make it before the rain I think fast maybe yeah sness yeah [Music] it might change when the bik changes [Music] I'm glad my Dr was it yeah that was a juicy bucket fish juice that better sit behind there what not going to chuck it are you no rock and roll everyone loves it come on good morning it's bright and early at Curlew island and we are just getting ready to set sail well to motor first and then set sails we are heading to Keswick Island so we'll show you some of the trip there and then we'll show you around Keswick had a bit of a rough night last night but all is good we are set doing about 55 miles today and for a change we've got an easterly as you can tell Curlew Anchorage wasn't the best it was rolly all night long but never mind morning's here and we survive come uh catch here we had a nice fast sail in the morning heading towards Keswick and St Bee's we're currently off the shores of Mackay and Mackay being uh very big in the sugar industry there are tons and tons of tanker ships out here just waiting to be filled up Karl's at the helm not sure that we're going to make it past the the back of it I hope so right on the edge of the wind and if our sailing videos aren't what you're after have a look at our on land exploration of the Mackay region you've got Finch Hatton and all sorts so yeah sailing's not for you there's plenty of caravan and camping available I'll put the links on St bees and Keswick Island are a great spot to stop at if you're heading north or south around the Whitsundays area there are a couple of good anchoring spots although the passage between the two islands does have large currents you wouldn't want to try and motor up there with a little 6 horsepower on your tender or you probably won't make it Southern Anchorage has coral reef right off the back of your boat and we will be checking that out and doing some snorkelling the northern Anchorage has some beaches and further north still there's a wreck that you can snorkel this is going to be our first mooring ball pickup both the islands are privately owned so walking and having access to them except for on the public roads is not the thing to do what's that for right just in case we need it [Music] okay how was that sail today good nice fast not too rough happy at least it'll be calm to do water go up the mast tomorrow yeah so we're parking in here and over there on the corner is the kiosk selIs take away taking that blue one I think the triangles there do not goes yeah how do you know that cuz there's a triangle over there and I'm pretty sure look what what is written on YouTube okay y because maybe it's the blue one and it's not the white one okay I'm pretty sure it's the blue one the blue one okay are you ready you can directed yeah yeah that's why I came down I don't hear you that way I could hear you stop it straight no straight Bow or starboard straight I'm listening to what he's telling me okay stop stop this is the first time for us picking up a mooring so we weren't sure quite what to do but we did work it out in the end one thing to note but since you're on a mooring ball and there's lots of currents throughout the night the boat will move up and down on the mooring ball and it bangs up and down your hull all night long not the best thing but yeah it's good nevertheless awesome up to 34 knots monohull hold 25 catamaran around 22 perfect doesn't say the I'm wondering whether we should put our rope through it no just do what no because it's going to pull on our bow sprit you know what I mean so I think we'll put our through and drop it back down okay why don't you discuss it with Alice please Alice yeah I think I'm going to put our rope out the side through its Loop and back to our boat otherwise it'll rub on our bow sprit if it turns our away okay you know what I mean so it's Loop through separate rope you can do that yeah we made it yeah it's so cool slept in this morning Alice didn't look at what she's made yum and coffee and a beautiful location winning yes folks he's going up the mast again we got a little problem with our wind index which is the little pointer that points to the direction of the wind for some reason it's come loose and it's all flopping about I'm going to go up and have a look and see what's wrong and tighten it up so it should be should be a quick easy job should be and yesterday was quite rough oh it was kind of not rough but it was rough in some patches and I hurt my arm uh I impersonated a bean bag flying across the room a flying bag of Spuds she was like a sack of potatoes flying across the saloon in all her glory so yeah I smashed my arm and it it's pretty okay so I'm going to try and put him up there the pliers pliers Pliers are where oh over there I thought you pointed down there and our moing is holding fast which is great it's so comfortable and straight there apparently is a reef so we'll be snorkeling that later we've dropped Alice just over here uh she's going to have a little bit of a wand and probably lay down and read her book while she waits for us to do the Mast thing and then we're going to go catch up with her and yeah explore main thing to do here like I said is the scenery and the snorkelling on the wreck and the reef and a safety on okay well I got him up there now it's his turn to do his stuff well that went well no injuries bit of white paint and our little Windex up the top is all fixed it was just a bit loose so now we got to do the mizing to tidy up those cables and then we're done are we doing that now yep why not he wants to work when there's a reef right there right there do it now when there's R right there than when we're blowing in freaking 40 knots of wind okaying around so Karl's just re cable tying all the wires here after Colin did the rigging and the noise in the background is the water maker and the generator unfortunately we do have to run them sometimes cuz yeah we need water and we need Power Water Maker is on working working hard [Music] hello look at the color of the water amazing so far our little tender Jaffa has been great it goes fast and it's tough as Nails the only drawback is it's a bit heavy especially when you got to drag it down the beach at low tide jaff is great it can power along with its 20 horsepower motor smashes it we're at kwig Island apparently it's not so welcoming because it's got lots of keep out and
