Camping in Freezing Weather
and that's it the tent's set up that oh my goodness wow oh look at that would you it's quite a defrost job i'm gonna have to do welcome back everybody to another overnight camping with tony and bruce who is just down here i don't know if you can see him he's just sitting on the chair i was going to get out a couple of days ago but it was a hurricane basically and i wasn't camping in that so what we're doing on this trip oh a lot of new gear to try out very exciting home is on the truck we'll be setting up hopefully by a river uh somewhere where you wouldn't usually be able to set up a tent on the ground yeah so we just need to get there hopefully it won't rain this time because i could actually do without rain for a while it's winter here in new zealand and it's cold and it's being windy and if it's wind just by itself not that big a deal if it's wind and rain nightmare so fingers crossed weather turns out nice all right let's get there oh hey bruce come on then welcome back everybody right found my spot i'm by a creek there's a big river over there i'm surrounded by hills the wind is coming from the other side of the truck so it's gonna be hitting what you're about to see which is the roof tent the rooftop tent um it's a beautiful spot i've got space here to have my fire set the tarp up the uh awning around here i can do all my cooking on this side and if the wind stays like it is it's great if it doesn't then i'll move move the truck okay so first things first let's get the roof tent up uh all set up and then i can swing the awning out get that set up as well right brucey actually first i've got to get oh well i don't need to get brutally water because he's just drunk from the creek right here so he's fine and he's already been swimming in it roof tent okay so roof tent up here um access is on this side so i'm gonna need the ladder for when i've got it set up which is here pretty simple okay let's get this set up so this is even easier so all you do is just pop the two catches lift up and that's it the tent's set up get the two bands out the way okay now i've got two poles inside that i need to put in to stick the awning out so let's get that done the poles are in the tent now i don't know why i've been keeping the poles in the tent that's silly i should just put them in the back of the truck i wasn't thinking right let's get these set up okay so i'm going to be hooking it around that hole there so first you're meant to stick these in like so so they go all the way in okay okay let's do this one first i think it's actually easier to hook it first one all right and that really is that the tent is set up i mean how easy was that do you want a quick tour i'll give you a quick tour so up the ladder we go and this is home now i could open this all up so i've got a view out but i'm only going to be coming in here to sleep it's a lot of space i think that's um i can't remember exactly i'm pretty sure it's seven foot end to end it's very long it's got this big thick mattress um so what i need to do is just get all the bedding up here i've got some extra hooks carabiners over there that is lying loose yet it's got uh bug bug proofing but to be honest um it's so cold there's no insect in here okay let me get the bedding in here uh and then i think we'll set the rest of the tent up the rest of the gear up what do you reckon brucie should we show them where we are check out where we are look at this how beautiful is that lots of snow up there isn't that brucy the wind is uh well we had a bit of a hurricane so the wind is whipping uh along but oh he had to go in you had to go in didn't you cool your feet down yeah so the wind is whipping through just above i'm hoping i'm going to be shielded from it though because it is bitterly cold i'm going to have to put my uh put my coat on yeah cause it is cold okay let's get the awning set up because then i can settle down i can light the fire oh man it's really cold that's better oh it's it's i mean it's just it's the windchill if anything ah so because we're setting up camp bruce wants a treat so he's licking his lips bruce always gets a treat when we're setting up camp so let's get that for him now yum bow wow beef roo roll all right i think you're going to like this bruce hey bruce through the trick let's see if he'll do a sit pretty oh very good he might lie there and watch you let you watch him let's move the camera and see he's gonna hide oh he's he's lying on a thorny bush oh that's covered in thorns bruce don't lie on that oh brucy why would you lie there hey okay now that bruce has had his treat i can get on with the awning oh there's a mess everywhere that's bruce's water bowl but he's drinking from that he's drinking from the flowing creek much prefers that to having his bowl all right let's do this so okay so yeah you use the strap just to hook it to the front front of the truck it's literally it is literally this easy okay so awnings up um now this strap i can just climb over with the ladder it's not it's not in the way i've already tested it before so now i'm just gonna put all the poles down and then because of the wind i'll probably guide the poles down so let's get on with that so you'll probably see bruce just running all over the place he's he's free he just runs around if you've never seen bruce before he doesn't go very far and he's always keeping an eye on me even if he's like 100 meters 200 meters away he's keeping me so okay so as i said we're not expecting any rain and if it does rain it's all going to flow off anyway so now i need to just start buying things out so let's get on with that um first of all i need to guide down the wind block here because this is what's going to keep me dry and and warm and out of the wind so let's get that sorted foreign now i might just have to tie these off to rocks or something because this is just sand it's not going to hold i've just got to find someone to peg the other one down unfortunately it's too close to the truck but when i did last time it might work i just tie it off around the wheel here yep let's do that so take some of my paracord with my carabiners on i mean i couldn't even just use a bungee but this stuff's stronger than a bungee so yeah got my carabiners on the end of my cord and that hook it around the wheel that should sort it all right and then just pull tight it should give me what i need oh yeah that should be fine perfect great wind block and the the astute of you will notice i've got my star link set up on the roof here it's already it's already running i'm already getting 200 megabits down so awesome okay so what we're going to do now is guy the rest of these down let me just see what you're looking at here so i can tell yeah yeah so i just need to guide all these down and then we're good to go we can relax you can light the fire everything so let's just see if the chords my chords which are set up for tents let's see if these are going to be long enough hopefully they are yeah they should be fine okay i might fast forward this bit for you okay perfect all set up awnings guide down these are as tight as they need to be i don't think that's gonna be a problem um it's not going anywhere it's really secure it's very secure okay so next up get all the bedding out chuck that all up in the tank get the tent ready for tonight so i don't have to deal with it later then we'll sort the fire out sleeping bag now i've got my ladder is in the way of my window i've got my pillow now you may be wondering where is bruce gonna sleep tonight he's gonna sleep in the truck he's not coming up to the tent uh he likes sleeping in the truck he'll be fine with that it's nice and warm in there yeah he'll be quite happy with that okay now got a surprise i've actually got an electric heater with me so i've got another battery bank let me just go and get that so this battery bank is going to power my heater and recharge stuff up here there's my heater so i need a couple of i need to put a couple of lights up there okay light and importantly pea bottle oh yeah you don't want to be climbing out of the tent in the middle of the night to go to the toilet right i think that's about it for up here so i'm going to just zip it up and that really is it that's all i really need up there i've got my sleeping bag got my tent warmer i even have an electric blanket with me if i needed it but it's not as cold as i thought it was going to be if it was minus five something like that then yeah i would but it's it's sort of just above zero centigrade so not so bad all right we need to get the fire done so let's get on with that oh bruce is having a great time he's just running all over the place but what i reckon is looks like someone else might have had a fire here before so i'm gonna put the fire here yeah because i don't want to have the fire under the tarp obviously uh under the awning so i'm going to put it as close to it as possible to about here um i've got a fireproof grill that goes over the top of it so we should be fine so right where bruce is sitting is where the fire is going loads of firewood right so i've got a bag coming for this i'm using a different bag at the moment so i've got the winnewell stove the winnewell fire pit extra large which to be honest is a bit overkill i didn't need extra large at all regardless of popular opinion sizes and everything okay so where am i gonna have this not too close to the pole i wanna sit chill out back here have the heat okay so yeah because i've got a cover for this it's actually going to be safer so about there is perfect all right now what i've got from the good guys at um heat warden is a fire pit cover that goes over the whole thing so it stops the rain getting in there stops the wind everything else the only thing i didn't do with this is when they sent it to me they asked me how big i wanted the legs i got the wrong size it's not their fault it's my fault so i have i had to improvise a bit and be creative and come up with a way to lock this in place right so what i have to do because i screwed up i have to lock these feet in place myself because i got the wrong size okay we're getting there just got to be a bit creative okay that's good right so you might be wondering well is that it no so i've got sides that clip on the side of this thing so again it's from heat warden i'll put a link to it they didn't pay me they didn't pay me to test this but they did send it to me and it's a family business in the states which i really like there's a chinese version of this on i don't know amazon or something and um oops quite a bit cheaper but the materials just don't look like they're up to the job all right so i've literally got an enclosed fire pit it's awesome bruce approves so first thing we want to do is get this lit get some heat going around here ah all right fire lighting kit okay i tell you what actually first i need to get my chair out so i've got my big oz trial chair very comfortable very supportive and you got a back that's as sore as mine sometimes that's what you need all right let's get this bad boy lit oh god bruce is going to be 50 meters away playing in the river okay now while i do like this fire this winner well fire pit i don't know some things about it like the angle it's not the easiest to set up i shouldn't have gone for the extra large all right so the theory is it gets really hot and the wind should stop it blowing all over you i'm using a lot of kindling because i really want to get it cranking quickly there's a chance i'm gonna light a fire tomorrow as well all right so now we just wait for the kindling to take and then i'll chuck some logs on if you just heard bruce go through the water there so i'm not getting any smoke on me at all but i'm really hoping it gives off a lot of heat soon and i think this reflective plate will give off a lot of heat i think it will work all right the kindling is pretty much taken so let's get some big logs on there so those are pine pine logs um hey brucie and they'll burn really quickly get really hot get some coals then i can put some um more harder wood on top all right now what i need is a beer oh right it's got my beer out of the fridge it's hot brucy mind out mind the fire so i could give bruce's bed to lyon but then he'll just get up and go and lie somewhere else he only lies on his dog bed when it's time to go to bed he just won't do it otherwise so i've got to say straight off this heat deflector is working wow there's so much heat coming straight at me right now it's unbelievable in fact it's too hot for bruce he's walked away that's amazing that is very cool now the only issue i can see is that the um the metal posts the stands they're they're painted with some sort of black rubber so that's all melting off yeah i don't know doesn't matter but it seems a bit odd why would you paint the stands this is incredible this is the hottest i've ever been on a camp amazing if i can take my jacket off because that's just insanely hot and it's just reflecting so much heat at me i mean it's so hot that bruce is actually going to lie down in the river he's coming back but he was lying in the river it's amazing that is a first wow that's hot i didn't need to put half as many logs in unbelievable heat warden so yeah the the enclosure is by heat warden the fire itself is by winnewell and i don't need a blanket or anything that is just beautiful cheers everybody so i'm i'm so happy this is the easiest absolute easiest camp i've ever had to set up roof tent ready to go and i know that it's warm it's insulated awning all set up done guide out didn't have to guide out in fact the wind has sort of died down but just in case in middle night fire cranking no smoke coming on me just a wall of heat coming this way and i don't have to worry about flames or embers because they're getting trapped in that heat warden the whole thing is just reflecting straight at me i mean i'm getting super hot ridiculously hot wow i can't believe how efficient that is now and i've had fires in this before and they've just been average okay yeah yeah so the black coating on the legs is on fire huh i guess that's an oversight i'm not sure why heat warden why the owners it's a family run business why they would put that coating on the legs but hey ho cheers everyone thanks for coming along with tony and bruce um he's disappeared i've got no idea where he's he went walking off somewhere that way you might have seen him um thanks for all the treats that you've bought us on buy me a coffee and thanks for all our youtube members as usual much appreciated oh yeah all right i've got another treat set up the guys at um all right now my beer holder is actually a wine glass holder on this side i like so i can't remember where my actual beer cup beer holder is i know it's somewhere here no no it is just this okay well let's hope it doesn't fall over seems all right um so i need to set my table up because i always complain i don't have a table so i'll set my table up and maybe have some noodles because i'm hungry let me get it set up now i'll tell you what when you step away from the fire it's cold right table so another company sent me this king cam now i did open it just to check it all there because i really wanted a table and they saw my video and they said ah do you want to try our one i said okay fine and i picked it because it looks nice so if it works really well i'll put a link to it afterwards in the description now i've got to remember how you open it but as you can see it's not difficult and it looks really nice it's bamboo so i'll turn it this way so you can see what i'm doing so you lock it into place like so like that and that's it so i can have it really high or have it down here like this amazing and it's such a good looking table and yeah it's bamboo not very heavy pretty easy to set up so i think what i'll do is i might set it up halfway just to make it easy to cook on yeah and it's got self-leveling so you can level it how about that oh and it's got a net that you can to put stuff underneath it as well but i'm not going to use that so is that the right height oh it's cold when you step away from the fire amazing that is a pretty good height yeah i think that'll do okay so i need to get some hot water on get some noodles going my trusty cheapo butane fire i just need to get this level i think that works i could just lift up one leg because it's just up on this side okay and then dig it in now i have to lift both up now ah okay it's not the table's fault sorry for the r shot right i need to level this somehow i might need a stone well that was a crap stone hang on talk about yourselves again oh that was it i just needed to compact down the sand the river sand okay that's better all right kettle and water it's so cool to finally have a table that's up here usually i'm down here or whatever and to have the heat from the fire it's great i am loving this the reflected heat is amazing even in this breeze it's great why didn't i have a table before why is it taking me this long well so far king camp i'm impressed i like it i've got room for everything this is luxury it really is absolute luxury and my view is beautiful it really is stunning out here i've got a lovely view of the hills i've got snow over here i think tomorrow when it's sunny because it's starting to get dark now it's winter it's five o'clock so tomorrow when it's uh when it's sunny hopefully it's sunny i'll um i'll send the drone up bruce can't get enough of the creek he's just in it all the time he's a water dog he loves water and he's just gonna keep playing for ages right noodles so i've got po chicken flavor rice noodles that was all i could find in the shop but i'll bring you back when the water is boiled actually you know what while we're waiting for the water to boil we set my lanterns up so i've got these lucy inflatable lanterns just don't blow them up by hand by mouth because you'll get moisture in the lamp and then they won't work anymore just ask yer go 4x4 because that's what he did and now they've all failed so these things are waterproof they've got solar so they can charge and you can also charge other devices off of this charging port all right easy as that these noodles do not look the best but it's all they had so figures can't be choosers they smell very garlicky ah this is so easy i can't honestly i can't describe bruce shouldn't be under there oh wow my gas is cold so it's not heating properly okay the downside with butane you do have to heat it up just keep it warm so what i'll do is i'll put it not near the fire but just in my chair here where it will get warm and this should be boiled now it is okay let me just give this a shake yeah that's cold really cold okay see i don't know if you can see that but much bigger flame instantly starts to boil amazing difference all right so while i'm having my noodles i'm gonna give bruce another treat bruce join your pigs here come on then there you go come on it's all yours you gonna take it no do you want it good boy why he has to lie in that spot can you see him down here just here i'm sure you can see him okay now time to put some um better firewood on here burn hotter and last longer because pine is pine is average at best on a fire it's great for starting the fire but that's about it all right i ripped the top that was silly okay give that a couple of minutes that works i have just never been so comfortable but it is cold but the wind isn't getting to me when i'm here it's whipping around the truck it's not coming through here because i've got this extension coming down on the awning and the heat deflector this heat warden is just pushing the heat this way yeah very good oh this is just it's not glamping because glamping is where the all the tents are already set up for you when you arrive and there's sort of big bell tents that's glamping this is just truck camping or car camping this is the advantage of having a big truck where you can go anywhere you can come to these out of the way places and just chill and be warm and have all the toys with you that you need i've got starlink with me because there's no signal here at all and as i always say i need to stay in touch with my family oh all right let's see how these noodles are so they smell good okay bon appetit everybody not bad actually not bad i've had worse oh brucie bruce is very fast bruce is desperate to go in spread from that mountain in the background there you probably can't see it lovely spot there's camp just see the fire glowing so this river would flood maybe well not very often once a year maybe we'd have to be very heavy rain catastrophic rain for it to flood but it's gonna be a bright night lovely moon if the breeze could stop that would be nice so all these trees surrounding me they're not actually native they're invasive from europe i'm not sure what they are willow or something um it's winter here that's why there's no leaves on them but everything else is green which is how it should be including all this manuka here see it's all green um because new zealand doesn't really have any natives that shed leaves in winter they're evergreen so it's kind of strange that these are all here but yeah they're invasive people bought them over the 1800s and they just spread and then this is a little creek that's coming off of the main river that bruce is just playing in the whole time oh so peaceful just need the wind stop just a breeze but it's annoying because it is so cold it just creates a wind chill don't fall in good the other advantage of this heat warden system covering the fire it means i don't have to worry about it spreading or anything because it really does enclose it quite well lovely isn't it i think it's almost bruce's dinner time right what i need to do is go around and turn all the lamps on so we've got some light make it look nice and also so i can see this is a great spot and i feel like i need to say it again there are no predators in new zealand we don't have anything nothing scary just people people are the scariest things here yeah all done on this one up here turn it down come on i think that's brighter there you go yeah should we go and see how that looks i wonder bruce is going to follow me if he'll stay there oh staying there by the fire how does that look very pretty all right i'll bring you back for dinner okay welcome back everybody time to get bruce's dinner i know he's desperate so let's sort that out for him now let me go to the fridge all right what do we got we got some jimbo's beef and lamb and some nude uh natural new zealand sort of what is it i'm not sure what it is you just mix it in it's kind of weird sachets but he'll like it and it might make him slow down eating the whole thing smells good this one's chicken this is nice and natural lots of veggies you like it all right brucey that's a lot of food okay don't forget bruce is the perfect weight perfect health he has just the right amount of food according to his vet this bowl might not look very big but it really is and that's very heavy very heavy look at that oh no just flick myself somewhere okay let's give this to brucey all right let's see if i can block this between two big rocks go on then bruce good boy ah so the temperature temperature has really dropped let me just check the camera here for a second sorry it's uh misbehaving okay there you go yeah temperatures really plummeted for all i think i'm gonna be getting through all this firewood tonight to be honest i should have bought double the amount oh well i don't know why i didn't i've got the truck i could have bought a lot more i just didn't think i'd need it but i just don't see that i'm going to be able to have a fire in the morning all right okay so i need to now prepare for my dinner so let me come back to you and get that oh he loves that all gone all right so what we're having tonight is courtesy well the recipe was sent to me by a friend korean friend and who lives in arizona now christine and her husband sang ho who i used to work with barbecue beef ribs so i need to grill these i need to drain them and then put them on the grill but i had an idea and i saw this in the shop i'm gonna have that with an asian chopped salad this i saw this instant grill one time use no iron or aluminium it's made with bamboo uh volcanic rock and 60 minutes cooking time and less co2 is biodegradable i don't know what do you reckon cassius grill well let's give it a go so it's all going to be biodegradable the volcanic rock means that you can burn it on any surface so i can put it on the table here and cook no problem all right so from what i gather you've got to make it want to assemble the whole thing let's let's see how this goes all right so this is the bamboo grill comes with instructions but i've already checked it out online it's got some little stands to to put the uh the grill on so you plunk it on hang on goes that way so you've got to make the stand that the whole thing sits on yep put it upside down that's right okay oh that one upside down oh i'll get there in the end yeah that's it because the whole grill sits on this box this this base that i'm building here something tells me this is going to be pretty rubbish and if all else fails i'll have to cook these on using a frying pan but i really don't want to ah okay so these keep it in place and slot into the slots here one two okay and then it's falling apart completely falling apart you know what it's i don't even know if it needs to sit on this thing to be honest cause it's got volcanic rock in it ah let's give it a go it's just it's not very well conceived because it's cardboard all right we're good all right we're sorted look at that and then all you're going to do is like the four corners so these have got some sort of special coating on even though it doesn't look lit it is lit apparently that's it that's all you do then when it's ready you put the grill on and that's pretty much all it says in the instructions because i've read them so that's going on the fire well it is going it is fizzing i'll give you a close-up so you can see it's actually fizzing sort of sparkling in the corners i think this one's sparkling let me check it yeah it is so this coating that's on them is starting there they're all starting to fizz okay so let's wait and see i'll bring you back when it's ready this is pretty much up to temperature now well it's getting there it's getting this so i'm going to put the grill on now let that get nice and hot okay so that just clicks into place all right let's see how this goes i'm not overly confident i mean this thing is wobbly to say the least okay so we're not at full temperature yet but i'm gonna put the beef on now anyway because i'm not sure how long this thing's gonna i mean this could turn out to be an absolute disaster and so i've drained the beef beef ribs these are the only types of ribs i could get christine before you say anything in case they're the wrong sort this is new zealand not the states if anyone's interested in the recipe i will put it in the description ah it's sizzling it's a good sign so these have been marinading overnight so let's do them all the same way up if this fails i'm gonna have to do this on the fire hmm i'll be honest i'm not completely confident this is to work but it says it's a grill and that it can cook so i'm going to be doing this the whole time well let's see how long they take i need to set a timer all right i'm going to set a timer and i'll come back to you well it's been going a couple of minutes and the good news is it's smoking and smelling like a barbecue this works i'll be amazed because that's pretty easy process and it's all biodegradable yeah i might be impressed let's turn bruce's light on come around here bruce so we can see him so you can see what he's up to behind hang on bruce oh you're pulling away from me as much as possible there you go off you go so i won't lie it's cold i can see my breath even with this fire cranking away it's just i don't want to bring it too close but what's happening is it's the wind it's always the wind and when it's windy it doesn't matter what you do you just can't get warm you just can't if it's dead still dead calm no problem but it isn't so what do you do i'm loving this table by the way it looks good feels good it's pretty solid king cam it's a good looking table easy to wipe down the treated bamboo it's nice yeah i like it cheers everybody ah so bruce is behind me you might be able to see the light honestly i don't know brucy see if you can see him come bounding in well i don't know if you saw the light or not go on there good boy so we've got lots of smoke coming off the beef now you can probably see it is cooking wow it's actually cooking bruce oh come on come out of the creek he's got to go in it he really does so this is one of the reasons i don't want him in the tent as well because hey i've got to get him up the stairs which he could do uh by himself he's amazing um but he'll be a wet dog condensation in the tent is always a nightmare and it will be in that with him in there i've got the truck with me he'll be much more comfy in here it's a nice big space he'll be on his bed nice and warm it's insulated yeah he'll be happy he'll be fine in there and he'll know he'll know i'm above him so you won't get the same bedtime cuddles and morning cuddles but well morning it will be but it just is what it is you'll be better off up there all right everybody i'm gonna bring you back when this is pretty much done um i didn't set the timer oh no okay well it's only been going for just five minutes if that so let me set a timer now uh i just set the timer on this stupid thing timer hello okay no i don't want time or do i want stopwatch stopwatch start all right and then we'll tack on five minutes but i tell you what it's cooking it is cooking and it smells amazing it smells very good all right i'll bring you back everyone okay welcome back everybody oh it's cold it's probably because i need to eat as well i haven't eaten much all right let's see what we're dealing with here so yeah i use the foil to um just create a little barrier because the wind was blowing so much that oh my goodness wow oh look at that would you i don't even know if you can see it but they are perfect absolutely it smells so good it's just falling off the bone all right it's time to eat what a treat but i need to make up my salad pack um and i need to take these things off the heat well this worked it's unreal but it actually worked beautiful okay what i need to do is get this out the way because it's smoking like crazy all right ditched that oh okay move the camera a bit right i can't believe i'm gonna be sitting at a table eating dinner this has got to be a first has to be a first oh man i've split the bag oh it doesn't matter what is it just salad okay i'm starving so i'm cranking it so that thing's still cranking away the barbecue i think it said it goes on for 60 minutes it's a long time so i'd say definitely have foil if you're gonna get one of those and use them outdoors because of the breeze that's about it really it's just self-contained it's awesome and you can probably see bruce running around behind me he's abs bruce calm down he's absolutely triggered by the light oh and he sets the light off oh my goodness i don't know if you can see my steam from a breath there this smells so good thank you christine for the recipe and the tips on how to cook it let's give it a try wow it really melts hmm wow oh my god that suddenly triggered a flashback to living in uh japan and hong kong where i used to have korean bbq all the time that's so delicious i ate a big piece there oh that's good oh i didn't check my timer okay let's have a look 45 minutes so so 45 minutes it was 50 minutes from now pretty much so it's about 45 minutes and that was quite a slow cook you know nice gentle cook bruce stop it gosh it's going nuts oh that's fantastic i've got to work this down oh it's cooked to perfection wow i can really just taste all of them the marinade ingredients sort of caramelized on the bone as well very good thoroughly recommend that korean beef rib oh yeah and that grill actually it worked so you know is it worth it no probably not you're still probably better off um just having a charcoal barbecue like a george foreman something like that or cooking on the open fire um i wonder how differently this would have tasted if i'd cooked it on the fire versus the charcoal i don't know what am i doing i've got so much meat here all right everybody i'm gonna be a while eating all this meat it's a lot it's just so good okay i will bring you back for cigar time cheers everybody ah welcome back everybody it's cold i've moved along a bit to get out of the wind so i'm up against the uh the awning here now i bought the fire closer um which i can do actually i can put it under under the awning because well it's got the cover over it so flames don't come out there's no on because i need it definitely need it oh now this little mini humidor was part of a wonderful gift a massive parcel of goods goodies from a fan a subscriber in pennsylvania who used to be in the nypd she's retired christine is her name thank you christine for all of the goodies she sent all sorts of stuff i'll put a picture up here um but just amazing amazing goodies and oh such a treat to open really was nobody notified me that the package was there so i almost didn't get them they almost got sent back um but there was so many cool things and also in here were cigars so we got a don diego corona major from the dominican republic that's got a beautiful label look at that beautiful label i don't know if that's picking up so i can't wait to try this oh and i've got so many options in here for cutters brilliant lovely cutter all right cranking now let's see if i can take the label off easily at least one of them yep there you go okay so yeah thank you christine awesome gift awesome so many cool things in the box all the nypd gear maple syrup which i'm going to be having tomorrow with my breakfast of course just loads of stuff moonshine beer honestly it was a brilliant care package um so yeah and people have been asking well what's your address it's i have a po box and the address for that is on my about tab in youtube and so people send me fan mail or send something for bruce it's quite difficult sending stuff to new zealand certain things you can't send here but uh most things not a problem of course it's expensive to send stuff here so it's not like liked my last video where i um camped by the river another river that seemed to go down very well now i made a list to help me remember because i can never remember anything oh gosh okay where do we start so um today so last night olivia newton john passed away bless her rest in peace olivia newton john seemed like such a sweetheart really did seem like a lovely person um and to die quite young such a shame and you brought so much joy to so many people so i'm sure you'll be sorely missed movies i went to see elvis i can't remember the kid's name that uh plays him that was a brilliant film i really enjoyed it hey look i don't know how accurate it is um sorry about the smoke um yeah i don't know how you know accurate the whole story is or did they gloss over anything did they gloss over anything that elvis may have done that wasn't great if you know what i mean but just in terms of entertainment it was great great performance great songs and he did really well and it was his voice apparently a lot of it so yeah elvis recommend that another thing i've been watching on tv i think it's on amazon prime uh it's startup how have i not seen this before i mean it came out in 2016. we suddenly saw it and and my wife and i um we've been binge watching this thing startup very good really enjoying it yeah and it is it is binge worthy so if you're looking for a show to binge i recommend startup if you haven't seen that already before i get on to comments and q a and common questions and stuff like that and answering those things i've got to address because i lived in asia 20 years in fact there was a point where i'd spend more on my adult life in asia than i had anywhere else and i lived in hong kong singapore and japan i used to travel all over asia go to china a lot just everywhere in asia and i i i just have to comment because it's just so sad to see what's going on the whole taiwan thing and china just getting more and more angry all the time and more and more threatening all the time they are so hostile to everyone now you dare utter a word not even against them but like questioning something about the motives they retaliate they retaliate so hard they are now bullies they've become the very people and i'm not talking about the chinese people let's get this right when we say china what we're talking about is the ccp the communist party the chinese communist party are not that they're really communist either they're just dictatorial capitalists there's no communism anymore there um you just have to walk through the streets there to see that they're still having lockdowns it really pisses me off they're really annoying me they just don't get on with the rest of the world they want to dominate the world they want to dominate manufacturing uh they want to control the world all these poor african nations pacific nations that are now they owe billions and billions to china because of infrastructure projects and then china just ends up owning them owning them this is all part of the great plan and now the latest thing with taiwan and having these blockade war games around taiwan threatening taiwan and the people of taiwan and coming out with all their belligerent propaganda threatening to shoot down nancy pelosi's plane it doesn't matter what you think of any politician okay it doesn't matter it doesn't matter whether you're left or right at some point we all have to come together and agree that certain behavior just is not to be tolerated in the world we're in today what is it with with these dictators and wanting to have wars all the time wanting to fight wanting to have violence oh man i'm just sick of it i'm sick of the ccp doing what they're doing i know a lot of chinese people and they're fantastic they're nothing like what you see with the communist party nothing at all they're they're trapped they're trapped they have no choice just like russians under putin now they're trapped they can't go anywhere and you okay am i ill am i angry am i having a bad day something tells me something's off um blah blah blah look there wasn't absolutely nothing wrong with me whatsoever it was just another normal camp nobody detected anything different with me honestly they did not because it didn't happen i don't in between filming different shots i'm talking to bruce and everything else it's it's just i didn't film any getting thinner am i ill i'm getting thinner so here's the thing i'm training every day three to five hours a day training really hard to get my six-pack back and i'm almost there almost there um so i'm ripped i'm gaining quite a bit of muscle but losing fat um now i'm gaining more muscle and losing less fat because there's less fat to lose so i've just got to control that and be careful not to add too much muscle um so i'm what 90 kilos so i'm just six foot and i'm 90 kilos so no there's nothing wrong with my health whatsoever very healthy yeah uh that is the whole goal is to trim down and get ripped so don't worry about that either it's very sweet that everybody's concerned about my health but tip top touch wood touch bamboo okay next one i complain too much actually there's not many comments to say that but you know i like to rent or i like to complain about gear if it's rubbish if there's faulty and i go on a little bit i can't sorry i can't help that it's my channel it's what i do um so the the reason behind that that i'm so critical is that it was my training in banking and investment banking investment bankers especially on the trading desk especially what we did are very critical we don't tolerate mistakes we don't tolerate faulty things in general and we blow up when they happen so that's why you see that especially if i've spent money on a product and it turns out to be faulty flawed or whatever what actually makes me angry and rant is not so much the product it's the people behind it that just don't care yeah that'll do whatever because they're just employees and don't care maybe i'm sorry you're in a wall of smoke here this is really stinky smoky pine i'm not gonna be bringing this stuff along again it's all the resin in there and it gives off a really obnoxious smoke and because i've bought the whole thing under the top to stay warm under the awning the smoke is just staying here so i'm sorry if it's a little bit hazy but that's because of the fire but look you get to look at a lovely fire at the same time so it's worth it so complaining yeah so i just don't if i've spent money on something i'm really really angry if there's something wrong with it i shouldn't have to fix things myself or take a product from 95 to 100 if you know what i mean why aren't they delivering a 100 product and i'm not talking about features that should be different or whatever i'm talking about flaws in products things that just don't work or ripped or whatever just not put together well yeah so it's not that i complain too much is that i'm very very critical and when i've spent money on something i feel i have the right to be critical yeah that's my right it's like paying taxes when you pay taxes you have the right to be extremely critical of the entire system yeah because they're taking your money and what are you getting in return what you want perfection in return perfection no less now if you're happy to settle for 90 80 that's on you fine um but the more people that do that the more they'll just keep you know cranking out rubbish products just let you know it's like putting up with poor politicians the more you put up with them the more they'll come you need to demand excellence yeah so that are there ticks or leeches no there's no ticks on the south island we're very lucky i don't know why that is yeah i really don't know why that is but there are no ticks and no leeches got to remember how isolated new zealand is from the rest of the world and uh it's got quite strict bio controls to stop certain products getting in and they fumigate stuff so you know there's no predators here there's nothing um and in fact a story once container came in i don't know what country china or somewhere and there was a snake in the container there are no snakes in new zealand so they quickly closed the doors and then fumigated the container to kill the snake and anything else that might be in there yeah they didn't just go in and hunt the snake and kill it they they took care of the entire container you know these shipping containers 40-foot shipping containers so they take this stuff very seriously here i'm gonna have another one of those but i will say it's a pass for me on the toffee i'll stick to hot chocolate maybe if it had a bit more flavor a bit more toffee maybe it's because it's the sugar-free one but you shouldn't have to have loads and loads of sugar for it to taste good so yeah that's a pass oh well okay what next how many cigars do i smoke a day well now some of you who have been following my channel a long time i have discussed this before i only smoke a cigar when i'm camping that's it period i never smoked them otherwise so i don't smoke them at home every cigar that i have had for the last two years have seen because you'll have seen it on youtube i might have had one when i had when i've done a camping that i didn't that i didn't film maybe if i was with ann or brandon my son um and talking of that uh it's anne's birthday next week august 16th and we're going camping just myself and anne and we're gonna take the roof tent i'm gonna find a beautiful location by the beach and we're going to go camping and maybe i'll break my no alcohol enforcement for that and get a bottle of champagne you know for her birthday she deserves that so yeah and she said she's happy to go camping she'd really want to go camping rusi have you been eating that's a horrible noise and yeah we'll go camping maybe by a beach she likes she likes to see she likes beaches this cigar is really really smooth i have to say thank you again christine really nice dominican republic don diego very good um so yeah i only have this guy when i'm camping uh ah why don't i get bruce a camera to follow him like a gopro have you seen bruce have you seen how active he is and what he does here's the other thing is he hates wearing stuff he it actually upsets him he doesn't want it on him doesn't like it at all so if i put a harness on him he's not going to be happy he doesn't even like having being on a lead but if i put a harness on him to mount the gopro it's quite a bulky thing you have to strap onto the back and it goes all over i'm not going to do that to him he is manic it just is what it is that's that's how he is and he won't even wear a raincoat he'll rip that off snow boots still rip him off he's not interested in any of that he's he's like a like a wolf just treat it just pretend bruce is a wolf and he's wild and then you understand that you don't need to touch him he's perfectly fine all by himself the only thing he's got on is his collar so you can see where he is that's it it's got his id on it okay and the last comment i saw on the questions do i ever get scared have i ever and have i ever seen anything that scared me or other people no never get scared i don't think i've ever been scared camping never have i bumped into other people in really remote places yes i have but this is new zealand and this is the south island of new zealand it's it's very difficult to explain but it's just not like that here nobody you know you run into hunters all the time i'm a hunter you've got nothing to be afraid of yeah people are very friendly here so no i've never been scared there are no predators here as i've said uh there's nothing really to be scared can you see bruce in the
