BRUTALLY HONEST REVIEW OF GENIE PLUS AT DISNEY WORLD | Individual Lighting Lane & Genie+ Tips
came out of time but i'm trying to hit the time now it just says something went wrong we're having trouble processing requests disney do you want my money or not yes yes i'm sorry i will get your money i promise you i'll get it to you next week i had to get a new annual pass i'm sorry what okay yeah one minute man so today is the launch of genie plus if you don't know what Genie plus is it's this new service a new app through Walt Disney World to make sure you have a better more efficient vacation they announced this years ago it's kind of replacing the old my disney experience app and replacing the old fast pass system but it's paid you have to pay for it every single day you visit so the initial fee is gonna be 15 just to kind of get the base bare bones app there's kind of like a free version that helps you plan your day but then to get like the fast passes and return times for the rides it's 15 so that kind of gets you like into the gate and you kind of get like most of the rides you can make return times for but then like the busier rides like rise to resistance or space mountain or seven doors mine train you have to pay per ride per person and it's between seven and fifteen dollars and those prices vary throughout the day and throughout the season so guys we're gonna document it all i'm gonna give you like a brutally honest review about everything how i feel about the new genie plus system we're gonna be going to magic kingdom because that's kind of like the park that most people go to during their vacation so we're gonna see how the app operates there we're gonna show you all the different features what it was like for me as an annual pass holder versus somebody visiting once in their life to disney using the app so that it's time to go to magic kingdom i got this hat specifically for this video oh i'm not liking the shapes that they chose for uh genie's nose and mouth yeah okay let's go okay so we're uh we're heading in there's still no tram they're just like sitting off in a parking lot over there it's like a tram graveyard i don't know why they're not back it just doesn't make sense to me okay we're about halfway to the monorail i've never seen this sign before it says walk time to the transportation and ticket center from this point five minutes i've never seen the sign okay we'll we'll be there eventually they've added a bunch of banners for the 50th anniversary the world's most magical celebration now this is my first time like actually celebrating the 50th anniversary i made a magic kingdom or any of disney parks and probably like over a month so i haven't seen any new stuff i'm excited to see it all and see the new genie plus we're hoping on the monorail right now again you're going inside so you get a mask up now they added new overlays to the monitor but it's only like the front part at disneyland it's like the entire monorail this is just like a little portion uh they added these topiaries actually really like these they have one for mickey he's got a little bow tie then they have a 50th cake and then minnie i do like the front they did a good job repainting everything the world's most magical celebration and then the uh flowers was a giant hidden mickey all right now when it comes to gdp plus i didn't like do research i wanted to come in kind of as like a standard guest to try to figure it out when you get to the park they're no longer the mickey pumpkins they're like these metallic cinderellas carriage all right we made it in they have a new map of walt disney world 50. this is magical coming in and having the dapper dance thing to you yeah so they've replaced every single mickey pumpkin with the cinderella carriage pumpkin it's nice and elegant but i kind of miss that kind of tacky mickey pumpkin i do want to say magic kingdom looks incredible they've like repainted everything with the decorations i love main street right now they polished walt and mickey the castle looks incredible i do love the new paint job all right now they have all these new gold statues now i'm gonna make a video where i'm gonna go to all four parks in a day we're gonna find all 50 statues in one day i'm loving this stitch he's just chilling on the purple wall holding the 50th medallion okay it is time to get this genie plus okay now i know nothing about what's about to happen so uh let's figure this out together okay hello welcome kevin yes kermit is my man all right where do we uh get started with disney genie okay first thing let's get started a whole new way to make the most of your day share which attractions are okay we'll do uh start now granting your wish okay we're here select park day it's just me top picks okay so i want you to kind of plan your day right okay so i picked my attractions that i like to do and now i'm going to pick dining but i'm not going to eat oh let's let's do cosmic i don't want to do a sit down right now we'll do pinocchio's okay so now let's do capture your moment i'm not going to do that because that's expensive unavailable experiences okay i will do continue okay now wants me to uh personalize your day even more so pick what i like okay i like villains i like star wars i like character meet and greets uh i like live entertainment i like the seasonal offerings and what's new dining entrance casual dining okay so now i think uh genie is gonna plan our day for us it's pretty easy so pretty much every single ride here at magic kingdom has there's like two different tiers for uh genie plus there's like genie plus which is kind of like standard fast pass and then there's uh there's like lightning lane which is an up charge you just pay to ride once but you can only do two of them a day and can't pay twice to reride the same ride so right now at magic kingdom there's two rides that you have to pay for space mountain or seven doors mine train i'm doing this for you guys to see how this works let's do um we'll do seven doors mine train it's i'm literally paying ten dollars to go ride seven doors mine train we're gonna purchase that uh wait less on your purchase okay what time do we wanna ride seven doors mine train all right closest time is um choose your preferred time we'll do 2 45 that's my only option right or oh or you can do three four five six seven pm okay we'll do let's do 3 15 so i can do some stuff all right we'll do continue i'm really about to pay ten dollars for this i don't like paying ten dollars per ride that makes me feel really bad and almost like disgusted that i'm paying that on top of my park ticket so uh let's do it continue seven doors mine train uh would you like to allow disney to use oh god now i gotta go to my email oh i didn't realize this there's tax on top of these things so i'm paying ten dollars plus tax oh my god okay is that it pretty easy i i'm pleasantly surprised with how easily this experience has been kind of planning my day and purchasing the ride that i want to do surprising it's trying to process my order but it's um frozen i don't i don't know it's not processing my order what is going on okay so now let's uh let's book our first parts of the caribbean um it shows the current wait times and it shows where we can do our genie plus lightning lane let's do pirates for uh 225. i think it went through and processed my card not letting me use my credit card i put in everything correct but um so how am i supposed to pay for this i thought it was great to ever set everything up but now i can't even pay for the service why so how am i supposed to pay for this it's having problems like processing my stuff i know some people are going to say oh it's his first day just give it some time they've been planning this for years and it doesn't work opening day i'm not gonna give disney any slack for this this should be working flawlessly i don't know what to do right now i've tried to put in my card probably half dozen times it's not working i don't want to go to guest relations because i know how stressed the cast members are today and i don't think they got a lot of training on this whole operation system so i don't want to bother them but i almost have to because i don't know how to make this video if i can't do genie plus because it's not working oh my god much much much later we did it it went through after like the 17th time uh now it's time to book our lightning lane for pirates okay that was kind of easy i booked it um it says redeem between 225 and 325 so i have to show up during that time i can't show up afterwards so it looks like i only have an hour window to go ride my ride so it shows up here's my lightning lane but it kind of just blends in with everything now when i was first picking what i was gonna do i thought i paid for the seven doors mine train but i guess not because i picked 245 and it's not there so how do we now pay for seven dwarves mine trade okay i'm not even seeing seven doors mine train pop up on the map right now um it's just winnie the pooh pops up but it doesn't give me an option to buy anything so is it down or they sold out for today because i thought i purchased one but you go to space mountain with forecaster weight it's simple but it's also confusing i think it's gonna take some learning all right this is the rundown i keep trying to get seven doors mine train and um so it's not on the map but if you go to the board you can find it and i'm clicking on a time but i'm trying to hit the time now it just says something went wrong we're having trouble processing requests disney do you do you want my money or not okay i just uh talked to a cast member of seven dwarves they let me go to the guest experience now to talk them about getting the seven dwarves lightning late i'm getting pretty hungry so before we go to pirates i wanna get something to eat i saw on the map there was a creepy looking mr toad burger so let's order that fries dear lord have mercy what did i just walk into um so i guess everybody's waiting for mobile order maybe for lunch guys we're having the wild toad brat burger or brat burger served with lettuce tomato pickle american cheese topped with olive skewer eyes with tater tots uh now if you didn't know mr toad used to have a riot here he still ride in disneyland but it's where the winnie the pooh ride is there's actually a little easter egg of uh mr toad in his ride now but uh this is quite disturbing to look at like staring into my soul with this uh alive yeah all right let's bite into it all right let's try the tops actually warm not too bad oh god do we just go full on oh i can't i can't without pickle i can't oh god all right let's try this again like it's an extremely small burger for being 13 they just literally put a pickle as a tongue and olives on top almost like a bite-sized slider burger the burger's fine i'm gonna do like a six out of ten on this burger all right i just finished the burger i know what it tastes like it just tastes like a like a jimmy dean breakfast like sausage sandwich it doesn't really taste like a burger everything together just tastes like one of those breakfast sandwiches that you kind of like microwave okay now it's time for the mr toad dome cake peanut cake chocolate peanut butter mousse with a salty caramel center all right let's first uh shower on mr toad and we got a little bit everything there's like little crunchy bits in there what is that oh there's like little pearls this is actually really good you know sometimes with a peanut butter stuff it's like overpowered it's like punching your face peanut butter this is like a subtle hint of like peanut butter i really enjoy this i like the whipped cream on top honestly i'm gonna give it like a nine out of ten really good okay everything is like perfect and light and fluffy in there this is a standby for uh haunted mansion just keeps going the line moves pretty quick but uh it's kind of long and then right now fill our magic is under refurb they're added in the cocoa scene it'll be open i think in a couple weeks okay so when it comes to the the lightning lane so you can only book one at a time so after i go to pirates then i can book another one so i can't book a new one until 2 40 but my pirates return time is 2 25 so i'm returning there right now i'll ride it and then after i get off i should be able to make another lightning late time for pirates the caribbean okay so standby is currently at a 55 minute wait it's kind of like back to right here over here is going to be the lightning lane yeah i'm glad i have lightning lane so i can uh skip this all right now right now with this service kind of happy about it i get to skip all of that it's going to be kind of like a walk-on probably all right so the lion process is going to go back to here if i've got a five-minute wait strike your feathers dearie show up your flock all right we just got a pirates like a five minute wait the animatronics all look great everything was up and running and looked good i know people are going to be wondering is it shorter than like normal fast pass lines it was kind of the same length of like a normal fast pass line where you kind of wait like five to ten minutes to get on okay now that we've uh finished let's book our next one all right let's see what we're gonna do my day okay wants me to go on space of course it does i do not want to pay seven dollars for space mountain that's the next one dear lord i'm gonna wait to go right poo at that time all right let's do uh winnie the pooh at 3 40. all right so we're
gonna go to winnie the pooh click on it gonna load continue okay that's pretty easy there's quite a bit of a line here for uh guest experience team to help with uh genie plus oh my gosh is this a wild bread oh my god how are you doing today what's up what's up what's up you got stickers i do like riviera yeah welcome home bye all right they have brought some of the characters back so uh after many trial and error we have gotten the seven door mine train lightning lane i literally just paid ten dollars to go ride seven doors mine train god i'm an idiot but it's for the video to show you the experience you can overlap so i have a reservation for poo right now so i'm gonna go ride poo and then right afterwards i'm gonna go to seven doors mine train so if it's the paid fast pass things they can overlap in time but if they're not then you have to wait until that reservation time is over confusing yeah so i was talking with a bunch of people and it sounds like i suspected uh disney only did like a couple hour training with the cast members to figure out the whole genie plus system so it's kind of just all on the job training right now trying to figure it out okay the line for winnie the pooh is 30 minutes uh this is where we're going for lightning lane all right we just scanned in uh pretty much just like a walk-on kind of like how normal kind of fast pass is like probably like a three minute wait all right now the line for the lightning lane goes back to here all right here we go so current wait time for seven doors mine train is uh 70 minutes all right now the standby line for seven doors mine train goes all the way back here okay let's do it let's go ride seven doors mine train for ten dollars even though we already paid for genie plus i feel like that's kind of worth it this is your one day but to pay ten dollars to ride one ride for like a minute and 30 seconds all right so here's the traditional standby and this is where we're going over here to the lightning lane okay i just read my return time wrong hashtag dyslexia and i'm 20 minutes early so i got in line i have to wait 20 minutes what do i do for 20 minutes now the one ride you don't need lightning lane form is the people mover there's nothing better than coming around this corner and seeing the castle right there ah the never ending construction site it's tron everyone they got a lot of work to do stopped off at this uh guest experience team stan they have genie plus like pamphlets to kind of walk you through it which is kind of helpful all right the line for seven doors is back here so we still have to go in a little bit through the queue and then probably like the 10 minute wait all right so they still have plexiglas up in the queue i still can't believe i just paid for this oh my god okay i don't know i i didn't have fun because i paid ten dollars for it i couldn't imagine a family you know with like four or five kids or like a whole like family reunion you're spending what could be a couple hundred dollars just to ride one ride which is absolutely insane all right well i'm trying to order some columbia harbor house because they have a special thing so in order to get on the my diesel experience uh it like logs you out then you it sends you a code your email they need to punch in the code and now i'm at the point where i'm trying to order the food and it just says sorry something went wrong so uh yeah our next specialty treat is gonna be here at sleepy hollow all right so guys we got the doomberry blackberry ginger beer with iridescent sugar served with the haunted mansion themed straw the uh souvenir straw is paper so you can't do anything with it so all right let's see how it is i don't know if ginger beer and blackberry go together i feel like it'd be good as like maybe a slushie or if there's like alcohol in it but not a fan fi 5.5 out of 10. it's like a blackberry non-alcoholic mojito i feel like all right it is time for the next cavalcade i think this one is like minnie and mickey and all of them hello this is so much fun it's time to celebrate i really enjoy their iridescent costumes that they have on them for the 50th now i'm popping inside the importance if there's any new merch for the 50th but i'm not seeing much it's pretty much all the stuff that they had at a world of disney the other day just kind of spirit jerseys and the ears all right so the next mission of uh genie plus is there's a um kind of like a snapchat filter but it only works in certain areas of the park and they have audio tails okay all right let's figure out okay if you scroll all the way down on my day you'll do uh the my disney genie feature access lenses and audio tails it says a partner inconvenience because stuff isn't working great okay i'm signing away a bunch of stuff so i guess disney's gonna listen to me it's not working okay it won't let me do the filters it wants me to give consent but i'm literally trying to push it and it's not letting me do it so that's how that's working i've tried uh closing that out and trying it multiple times but it's still not not letting me uh hit the button for the filter yeah you have to scroll down a little bit and then you can all right let's see the filters we got all right we got um oh oh that's glamorous like bubble boy oh my god lord have mercy oh i look like a a busted navi fireworks tinkerbell what are you doing okay find the castle all right i found the castle oh okay that's dope it's the castle through the years seven oh at 71. first year 25th and the 50th okay that's kind of cool okay my favorite is honestly the 25th okay i i enjoy that filter then we have this filter of um what okay aim lens at sky oh why is buzz creeping why is he creeping over these trees i'm very confused on this whole thing oh hello mickey yeah thanks for the hug buddy i need it after this day a what try with someone else more bubbles unveil your inner villain okay now i'm now i'm maleficent uh we're doing full-on drag right now okay then there's a remy one but you can only do it while you're in epcot so all right so uh the filters are okay i think my favorite one is the castle one and you got kind of creepy mickey hugging me thank you buddy wait what big smile okay all right i'm gonna take a picture of the castle one now i've been trying for about 10 minutes now to get a good photo but to find my castle it looks like it'd be kind of far away how do you yeah no that looks that looks bad oh it's terrible cool idea but it just doesn't look very good all right so now i'm listening to the the audio books that are off it's like an audio story or tour of imagineers talking part of the opening day slate here at magic kingdom park at walt disney world it's talking about pirates but the problem is i don't have headphones with me because i'm at a theme park if i'm at a theme park in pain for genie plus i'm trying to get on rides and do stuff i'm not going to listen to an audiobook i guess it's fine if like you're waiting in a long line you can listen to it with headphones but i don't know many people who bring headphones to a theme park it became ready to come aboard and join the adventure how's that what oh my god i've listened to a couple of these now i'm listening to the uh cinderella castle one each little audio tale is like probably like a minute and a half long and it's kind of like if you've ever been to a museum like a museum audio tour where you're like oh i'm at station number two and it like tells you a little fun fact about when it was made and everything that's kind of like what this is so it's not a story it's kind of like oh here's the cinderella mosaic it has this many tiles this is when it was built but kind of like with some fun noises so that's fine i don't know anybody who's actually gonna use this this is such a funny shot to me it looks like they're about to go to war or something all the cast members dressed up and then you have this giant herd of all these people ready to storm in such a funny contrast we're leaving we have a lot to talk about when we get home boo bash is starting right now so we're heading out okay everyone it's time to talk about genie plus i'm sorry if this video was kind of confusing and convoluted because that's kind of how my day was so genie plus you know it's got a lot of potential i don't think it was set up for success for a proper launch as you can see by the legal disclaimer that stuff wasn't even filled out um when it came to training for the cast members uh they didn't get a proper training i know some people got like a 15 minute long video so people got two hours i think guest relations got a little bit more training than everyone else you know everybody should kind of be on the same page and be well informed uh i kind of wish they did kind of like a test trial or like a cast preview for like a week or two letting out the cast members and all their families try out genie plus so they can work out all the kinks so they can let disney know but it was just kind of like launched into um the public and uh disney's been talking about this for years and there's a lot of technical issues again this is one of the biggest companies in the entire world i feel like they should have ironed out all this stuff but uh it wasn't taking my credit card times were disappearing i thought i booked lightning lane but then they disappeared and halfway through the day then the stuff would pop up and work and function and i'd kept closing the app and reopening it and it just didn't function properly and there's no proper i guess informative way to teach you how to use genie plus she's kind of like thrown to the wolves to figure it out um so i'm really worried for like the average standard guest where they come here once in their life or once every you know couple years a mother with multiple kids and now they're at the park trying to make sure their kids have a good vacation and then they're having to learn this whole new operating system while trying to be a parent and have fun at a theme park and i i just see it it's very convoluted i like systems at theme park like universal you pay up front and you it's like unlimited for every single ride you know you pay it's like a hundred dollars a day or something and you go on any single ride in the theme park any time of the day you don't have to worry about times or numbers or passes it's nice simple and easy right now there's no annual pass holder discount so people who visit the parks a lot or you have to pay 15 every single time now there's services at universal and after i think it's like three or four it's later in the evening you get free express which is free fast pass included with your annual pass so there's no option really to get like a cheaper rate you just have to pay per day for disney or you go with universal and you get kind of your express fast pass included with your annual pass you know walt created these theme parks right for the families to have a bonding experience to make memories and your memories for your parents is going to be on their phones stressing about getting the proper times and the lightning lanes and the genies and the reservation system because the entire time i spent it on my phone i wasn't enjoying the beautiful details that are at these theme parks it was just me looking at my phone looking at different wait times and i i wasn't a fan about that the reason you come to disney to enjoy these beautiful magnificent rides and attractions and like if you're just glued to your phone you're already glued to your phone this century dealing with instagram and everything now the whole time somebody is going to be dedicated to being on their phone pretty much the entire vacation which not a fan about that's why i kind of like the you know you pay at the beginning and then you're good to go for the rest of the day for fast passes now people have a lot of questions about the tears and everything i'm still kind of confused so if you're staying at a resort right you can buy genie plus and start doing your lightning lanes at seven in the morning then the standard guest who's not staying on property can start purchasing it at is at nine a.m or when the parks open they can start then purchasing their lightning lanes like rise of the resistance like sells out in the first like hour so if you come later in the day you're kind of at a loss when it comes to stuff like that you can start doing your lightning lanes earlier if you're a resort guest if you're a standard guest you can start booking a little later okay so then once you start using these uh lightning lanes is i don't even is it a lightning lane is it a genie plus plus i still don't know the proper terminology so once you start using it it's very simple you go in there you book it bada bing bada boom gets added simple and easy you show up to your return time just like the old fastpass system you just kind of scan your card or your apple watch lights up green and you get to walk through now the lines are pretty much the exact same length of lines as the old fastpass system so expect you know five to ten minute waits on certain rides like pirates and stuff but what that causes we kind of go back in time to where the standby lines get extremely long and the wait times skyrocket so then people are like i don't want to wait in line for two hours so then they're kind of like forced to go into genie plus if you visited disney while there was no fastpass system it was great every single standby ran super smooth and you're in and out of that ride in no time so now they're kind of like forcing you to get genie plus if you can literally crank out those rides like there's no tomorrow if you time it properly because i know disney says you can only do one at a time but it's every two hours i believe so after your two hour time limit happens then you can book your next one so the times can overlap a little bit let's say you know i book like haunted mansion right i can pay for seven doors mine train on top of that during the same time so so i can go but you can only use two of those like special lightning lane paid for a day and you can park hop with this too so you're not stuck to one park so honestly 15 isn't terrible but for someone like me who's like an annual pass holder or all my friends are like cast members or locals come to the parks a lot it's almost not worth it to pay 15 every single time you come in genie plus i feel like is only worth it for people visiting like once a year or like once in a lifetime it's definitely worth it at that point to kind of like crank through everything but then when it comes to like the tip board and the planning of your day system there's not enough variety in the disney theme parks right now to kind of like make it very diverse it's like okay you're gonna go ride these same rides pretty much as everyone else it's not very catered to what your interests are because all the shows aren't packed all the meet greets aren't back and when it came to the dining all the dining reservations are already gone so it's kind of hard to book anything so i do like that the genie plus kind of gives you a nice little description of like the different rides or the different shows there's a different restaurant so you don't have to like ask the cast member like hey what is this place you can kind of read a nice little description so i like that there's a lot of that information within genie plus i like that it shows you the wait times now when it came to when i purchased my lightning lane i spent ten dollars on seven doors mine train the line was a 70 minute wait so if you have the money it's worth it but for someone like me it's like i really just paid ten dollars for a minute and a half and like i was thinking about like oh my god if you have like a big family or family reunion some father's gonna be riding that ride and just thinking like oh my god i just spent 200 for my entire family and friends to ride seven doors mine train um now these prices vary throughout the day or the season so they can be between like seven and fifteen dollars i kind of like where you pay in the beginning like okay i paid 15 for genie plus in the beginning my money is already out of the way and then i'm like in the middle day it's like okay now i'm gonna pay more money so i don't know how i felt about it um i know a lot of you guys were there at the park so let me know your thoughts about this whole process um if you're a cast member thank you so much for you know working that day and you know you guys were all chipper and cheery and i know what it was like kind of behind the scenes so thank you so much for working very hard if you were a guest let me know your experience with genie plus and everything again there's still a lot more to learn and i'll probably have to purchase it again at some of the other parks to kind of review it to see if it's worth it but i think magic kingdom definitely is worth it because there's so many rides where there is a lightning lane option i feel like there should almost be like college courses on like how to vacation at disney because there's just like so much to learn now i don't know i feel like there's a lot more i have to say but i'm just like all genied out my brain hurt from today i remember like i go to these parks all the time for today's video i tried to go in as blind as possible like the average guest to go and be like okay i'm in the park now i got to figure this out and i kind of struggled with it today i have like an iphone 13 so it's not the phone's issue it was just the app was just not working properly and i i think they got to do a few more updates to get this thing in ship shape it's just been a very interesting year for disney i'm sure if you've watched my disney store video that stuff has changed just a lot of stuff changing at disney and i don't know how a lot of people feel about it but there's many things that i can say but i i don't want to go on and on so i just want to give you guys like a brutally honest review of genie plus on what like a standard guest would experience again i think things are going to change over time and the algorithm will get better and they will update it this is
