If you're new my name is Brogan and today i'm going to show you some of the best things to do in Brighton i had such a great time with my Mum and i loved exploring the city for more inspiration on planning your next uk break be sure to check the link in the description. Enjoy the vlog! Hello everyone and welcome to a city guide to brighton we are here down at the seaside i'm with my mum again and truthfully Benj was meant to come on this trip but he's not feeling very well so he stayed at home with Bonnie and Mum and i are back doing a little girl's day we are really excited about this and i've been to Brighton a couple of times but never really done it you know so we're going to be exploring some of the best things to do in the city we're going to go out for some nice food we've got a walking tour of the city we are going up the British Airways i360 we're gonna visit the upside down house so you're gonna see a little bit of everything and give you some ideas on ways to escape the everyday so let me know have you been to Brighton have you got anywhere that you really recommend leave them in the comments but hopefully you'll enjoy this little day of us exploring and luckily the weather's really nice the blue skies are just trying to come out i think because we live in Bournemouth i just absolutely love being by the seaside so Brighton's always been a massive appeal to me and it's so easy to get down here from London but it was only two hours drive along the coast for us today So this is Shelter Hall it's a chic seafront food market and dining hall with seven independent kitchens so we're gonna pop inside and see what we can grab for some breakfast there's a couple of restaurants that aren't open this morning [Julie] let's look at all of them and see what they've got to offer [Brogan] what we fancy [Julie] yeah oh gosh this looks lovely is good oh look nice oh wow okay i think i need something [Julie] they cater for everything don't they they do i think i want uh coffee this is Tart by Dugardough inside the food hall this is lovely in here so Mum is actually dipping her croissant in the hot chocolate and look how thick that is [Julie] it is like it is purely chocolate [Brogan] is it good? [Julie] Yeah [Brogan] oh look how nice this coffee looks as well lovely so you can actually scan on the table you're sitting in and order directly through the app as well but Tarte is the only one that's available at the moment they do french toast mum [Julie] oh no we missed that [Brogan] missed that oh no next time we're just finishing up our breakfast i really like it in here there's a couple more people that joined and there's lots of spoken benches obviously lots of different vendors so you can like have drinks here they can sell bowel buns there looks like there's pizza down there as well so really lovely place especially if you came here in the summer months but i'm just having a little look at the tour that we're about to go on so we're doing only in brighton the secrets of the lanes tour it's 90 minutes so it's starting at 11 o'clock this morning and we're meeting our tour guide rick morris who's gonna take us around all the hot spots of brighton um we're gonna explore the lanes we're gonna look at the historic quarter all the quirky independent shops and cafes and the narrow streets of the 18th century fisherman's cottages and the secret passageways that reveal life in brighton and the tudor times in modern day so sounds really good really interesting all these experiences that we're doing today i'll have the links below for you so if you did want to go and check it out you can visit the visit britain and visit england shop with the um ways to book it and everything so yeah really exciting i've not um done a walking tour around brighton before so i'm looking forward to learning lots of new things obviously i don't have bonnie with me today but they let dogs in here so if you were looking for a dog friendly um spot on the seafront then here's a good space but there's a beautiful window here look at that look at the view and see stunning well that was very lovely lots of family started coming in it started to get a really lovely atmosphere in there did you enjoy it i loved it yeah it's really sweet a nice little spot literally right on the beach oh there's sunshine oh we're so lucky i love it when it's all sunny down in bryson love it so we're now going to walk to meet our tour guide rick we still have about half an hour so we're just going to walk along the seafront and go down to the peer area and take some pictures and we're just having a good old chit chat i love it it's a really lovely way to escape the everyday which is what visit england are encouraging people to do to get out and enjoy everything that's on our doorstep our homegrown tourism industry all these lovely things that we can go and do in these great cities and towns and i just really love it so very grateful to be here today and having having this is my saturday something i really love about brighton it's just the atmosphere but the people are really friendly there's lots of people out jogging and walking their dog and just enjoying being by the seaside i think there's something so special about the sea like i don't know what it is it's so it feels good for my soul do you know what i mean when i say that yeah yeah like really lovely to breathe in that like sea air i don't know maybe it's because we live by the sea or maybe everyone's outside they're very lucky we are so lucky a lot of people relocate to brighton it's a very popular yeah city because there's a lot of appeal here one of my best friends bianca lives down here now from london and she absolutely loves it here obviously i would normally hang out with her by the way but she is actually sadly busy today today so if you've only got a day you can see and do an awful lot if you plan well yeah so pretty there's sunshine i'm so we're just so lucky i really love it down here i really really love it i can totally see the appeal in the summer i can imagine this being really busy but there's a little restaurant down here there's uh lots of little shops and snacks nice to come out season like now yeah um i actually think there's lots of benefits of coming now because it's quiet yeah i mean look behind us it's really lovely so we have five minutes till we gotta meet rick our tour guide and mum just said i'm so excited for a tour well i didn't have ever done a tour actually i think it's really quite interesting we've done like museums with with headsets and things but we haven't done a walking tour before we did in new york oh yes yeah you're right we did we did we did yes that was interesting i i do because because it's nice to learn from a local mm-hmm we learned a lot didn't we yeah it's really nice to hear the stories they have and the little insights and secrets and tips so we'll film a little bit of rick for you he said he doesn't mind being on camera apparently so i'll uh get some clips of him chatting away it's about 90 minutes and i think please check my uh phone but i think it's about a mile and a half maybe something like that this area is called the lanes this is the original old town yeah okay and you'll notice we have east street yep north street west street it's a little south street the main south street was washed away in store so a few centuries ago so this quadrilateral this is the boundary of the original old town before about the year 1800. okay so this is where brighton was uh so this is gonna be the focus of our tour today so it wasn't until the vista numbers kind of reached a critical mass but uh we expanded along the coast north as well so the raw pavilion was built actually just outside the north of brighton and our tour today we're very roughly gonna go kind of roughly around here okay perfect george had a tunnel built between two buildings so he could go and infect his friends the story and he had that many yes wow and they won the eurovision waterloo in 1974. wow inside the theater wow everyone thinks that don't know when they come to brighton they think of the little lanes where it's got all the of independence you wouldn't have walked here before this is gonna say this is lovely little harry potter shop those interested we've just nipped into the lobby of a hotel because it's so windy outside but it's just gone half 12 and we've just finished with rick genuinely that was such a wonderful tour we learned so much so much history he really gave us a good understanding of the people that shaped brighton their roles in their royal families that came here and then the people that worked here and the type of businesses and then how brighton was developed he touches on all the history the art music food it was just a really good way to deep dive into brighton but not be like overloaded with information just really interesting really engaging i love that he had the little ipad little actually it was quite big um with pictures so you could really see that what it looked like in the past i never had that experience or seen that before so that was really good um but i thought it was just a really lovely experience obviously it was private for us today because nobody else was booked on this particular day and time but um the link and details will be below i highly encourage you to try and do something like that he offers a few different tours he does an lgbtq plus tour and he has another one he said that goes a bit further out but mostly you can walk all around we walked all through the lanes and we saw the pavilion um and then we looked all the way back around so we're now back at the pier so we it was so good mom did you enjoy it she really did enjoy it yeah it was fascinating wasn't it yeah cause it's only like an hour or so of your time he was actually a really good tour guide conversation and very amazing very engaging yeah yeah so thank you rick if you watched this video back we really enjoyed it so now we're going to have lunch at a place called the new club it's right by the british airways i360 so we're gonna go down there for our lunch now which is very exciting so this is the new club this is a really cool sort of american diner inspired restaurant right on the seafront we're literally opposite the um i360 and this is the drinks menu and then on this side they've got brunch they do a maple wood hot smoked salmon pig bowl so you get sushi rice i'm a little bit torn between the fried chicken wedge caesar salad i think that'd be really nice or the buttermilk fried chicken burger either of those and they do sweet sort of fries that's the sort of thing i read the dirty burger oh the dirty burger's got um short rib and bacon jam oh they do tacos down the bottom as well so we both decided to get smoothies so this is mango coconut and pineapple i believe and it looks really nice i really am craving this so we'll give this a go nice fresh smoothie that is so good yeah that's delicious so we've opted to maybe do a bit of sharesies because we couldn't decide between tacos and burger so we went for the buttermilk chicken burger and some fish tacos but the menu is really good in here they had quite a lot of choice so after our lunch we think we may have time to walk back down to the lanes and just have a little look in some of those shops that we passed earlier because it's so pretty and we both are quite um interested in popping in some of the shops then after that on the itinerary right next to the i360 is the upside down house and it says challenge your senses at this unique family attraction that lets you experience the illusion of zero gravity in an actual ups and down house i'm sure a lot of you have seen these i've definitely seen on instagram in fact we did have one in brighton at brighton we did have one in bournemouth but i never got the chance to go and um it's a it's like an illusion set basically obviously it does what it says on the tin it's like a hybrid street art experimental entertainment sort of thing so this is also obviously everything like we're doing like this is bookable by visit england on the website um so like i said links below for you and then after that we've got our british airways i360 viewing tower sunset tour so we're going to be doing um that at 4 30. so you can do all of these things really close to each other brighton's a great city to be able to walk everywhere which is ideal we park the car just around the corner and just having a really lovely time so that is the plan for us today mum just said that the upside down house is literally opposite here as you can see so we'll be going in that later but this is such a lovely little restaurant we've got these dividers so you can sit in these little booth areas which is nice so this is my fish tacos it looks absolutely incredible and this is the burger um can you lift the lid show us your burger there we go it's got chicken cool yummy tomato all fresh look how lovely and fresh that is yeah lovely because sometimes and it's in a lovely brioche bun yeah really nice so we can share we're going to do halfsies basically and this is absolutely delicious i'm going to get another one of those but i've got some sweet potato fries yeah really good what a lovely burger oh yeah it is very windy we're back on the main road but that lunch was lovely wasn't that good really good quality really good yeah really tasty i loved the tacos the burger was good the smoothie was delicious potato fries sometimes i hit miss they were lovely in there yeah they had some really nice vegan options yeah yeah absolutely it looks a little like it doesn't look an awful lot on the outside but actually it was really nice really really good thoroughly recommend it if anyone's looking for something like that yeah so it's just gone half one we're back down here at three so we have a little bit of time to walk back down to the lanes i know we're going a little bit back on ourselves um but we want to go and look in some shops that we spotted earlier we love shopping together love browsing all the little shops something i have noticed as well it's very dog friendly everywhere there seems to be a lot of people with dogs and um rick our tour guide told me that a lot of restaurants are dog friendly we're going to go into urban legend look at this massive donut in here oh it's very funny oh wow this is amazing do you want to share one white lie um what would you have oh yeah strawberry white chocolate or just the vanilla bean one it's good isn't it i can't believe it's the same calories as a pizza yeah she told us 149 calories oh that was the way we went yeah we're trying to retrace our steps from earlier because we wanted to go back to the little shops we saw oh yeah we went down here wasn't it have you seen all the rings that are here the amount of jewelry oh look that looks like yours look at these look at these they look like yours brighton is known for loads and loads of jewelry shops and i'm gonna tell you why there are so many so what rick was saying earlier is that these little shops used to be fishermen houses this was a fishing village in town and these shops are so small so that was so awkward there was the shop the lady that owned the jewelry shop started waving at me um yeah so the rick was saying the shops are so small it makes the most sense to sell jewellery because obviously jewelry is small items for a high value and lots of the little tiny shops that's what they don't know yeah so it's become like a hub and known and people get their wedding and engagement rings here so fascinating look how pretty this dried flower shop is we're actually a little bit lost i can't lie so mum's having to get out the maps to navigate have you found out where we are well i think it was when we came out of the royal pavilion gardens i think it's i think we're not far i think we should go down there okay so we're just waiting to go inside they sort of stagger people in and i don't know if there's like stairs we go up and climb or what not but obviously it's it's an upside down house i just overheard the guys say that they're built in lithuania so they're built and constructed in lithuania and then they're shipped over they take two weeks to build so they're pretty unique um really cute little spot and actually the weather has turned a little bit it's gone a bit gray this is a perfect activity to do especially if you've got kids pop in here take some fun photos i've never done anything like this it's right by the eye so once we've done this maybe we'll stop and get a coffee and then we will go up the british airways 360 which is really exciting so i will uh i'll show you when we go inside so this is how it works obviously you take the photo standing up and then you flip your photo and that's how it looks like you are hanging from the ceiling and here's some examples they've got in the uh check-in area so it's pretty fun it's only five pound each so we get ten minutes on each floor oh gosh it's a bit weird it makes you feel oh it takes some adjusting oh gosh yeah yeah that's a bit weird isn't it i've always wondered what these are like in here actually stuck everything upside down yeah look at the details okay so we have to get creative basically it's hard to envision the photo should we go in this corner they'll see that i don't know how to pose like you're doing a handstand on the table it's got to be on the table you wanna draw well how would you because it's gonna be looking like all right all right hold on i don't want to get the stairs in i was recording as well and it was doing i wasn't even concentrating on the recording we're trying we're really oh guys we are really trying but it's just not working out look this this kind of i think upstairs might be better oh was it okay hang on i get yours oh i look like i'm giving birth in that one i'm going upstairs now oh gosh oh it's very small oh oh okay so this is what this room looks like we've got a lounge a kitchen and a bedroom okay hold on what is that oh my god well let's just see if that works shall we right you you look like a little yeah you're done you're done you look like a potato i can't stop laughing i can do it really easily but whenever i try i look like i love you i look like i'm trying to be spiderman all right it is a little bit trippy in there we did have a giggle didn't we we did it you're on a boat yeah it does i i just couldn't get my head around it the fact that your feet still in the foot that's whole point you're meant to be on chippy toes though so i tried to be on to this side your hair would be like yeah you'd be stuck up well anyway we've now got an hour until going up the uh the british airways i360 so there are quite a few little shops here very cute um i think i need a drink oh gelato gusto artisan ice cream when you can sit in there oh i think that might be necessary yeah oh look they're award-winning ice cream handmade in brighton oh lovely let's do that then yeah i'm quite happy for some ice cream oh is that the entrance oh we got a dog bar they must be dog friendly oh look at the flavours they've got jaffa cake they've got vegan flavors clearly popular oh i like the look of apple strudel yeah that's what i'm gonna have all right i went for apple strudel and sea salted caramel they were both vegan and yeah handmade here in brighton so we actually have a little table inside i was just taking a photo but lovely i'm enjoying my little ice cream i'm crying with laughter literally in the moment i really really thought it was a good photo and then you go to edit them it seems like it's because you're going to flip it but i mean my hair's not hanging down isn't it all right everyone let me flip another one let me find another one honestly guys honestly i'm laughing so much does that look like i'm upside down it does that does look that does look my hands need to be flat i'm holding the butter yeah flat is the weight of your body so just opposite the upside down house is the british airways i-360 there it is and you go 138 meters up into the sky so we're going to find out more about it how it was made blue sky has opened up again for us so it's trying to peek through we've got a half past four booking but it does ask that you come 30 minutes before and the flights depart every 30 minutes and it lasts 25 minutes including boarding and disembarking so we pre-booked this so we're gonna go inside and show you all right we uh don't go in there that's the tickets we go downstairs so just down here is the entrance look at that that's the cable it says is 290 metres long that's the same length as 24 london buses under there wow that's really strange you know clever that's good yeah and they have a little exhibition room while we wait we're the first ones in for our flight oh wow and then through here they have a bar which is very nice you can sit and wait and get a drink so the views are obviously of brighton's landmarks rooftop artwork wind farms and the expansive and beautiful stretch of the coast from the seven sister cliffs all the way to the isle of wight and basically you can learn all about the architecture in here and how it was built and then they also have the bar on board as well so we can get our drink when we get on so okay so we're now back on the ground just caught a glimpse of the sun setting and yeah lovely views over brighton i think this would be a really good thing to do first thing on your brighton day so you can really see over everything i will say it was really smooth like i barely felt it was moving you can't do you that we're moving no and even when you look out so and you don't like kites and you weren't bothered at all no no it wasn't scary if anybody's got a fear of tall buildings or looking over the edge of the building and it makes them feel a bit queasy it's absolutely fine it doesn't give you any of that feeling so now we are gonna go for dinner we're just gonna wait for more people to leave and then we're gonna go for dinner and we're going to curry leaf cafe i think it's called that'll be our next stop our final stop of our brighton day which is perfect because we're both really tired now quite pooped we are we're a little bit pooped so yeah look at this piece of art how cool is that with all the people running at the bottom that is so clever aunt fox oh it's getting a little chilly now so i've put my scarf on and it's really pretty lit up at night we've got the i360 victims quite a little romantic place to come if you come for a date yeah if you've got someone you think i just want to go out for the day take someone out for the day yeah a little date day yeah oh look at the pier the all the um amusements all lit up yeah can you see yeah on the pier it's lovely love it look how pretty this is for breakfast this morning how different it is now yeah it's absolutely full in there and there's little pods you can sit outside there's even people upstairs oh it's lovely isn't it at shelter hall and here we are curry leaf cafe this is a really cute little restaurant and it was highly recommended so we're going to go in here and have our dinner in here we're actually sat in the window in this little nook which is very cute from the menu is pretty big so i do like the sound the chicken lollipops um which are our starter we've got loads of options so i'll report back when i picked something but oh now i'm sat down i'm exhausted and there's such a long day oh i'm ready for some dinner i've gone for a mango juice and it's really smooth and nice and just perfect so we weren't sure what we wanted and we weren't overly hungry so we went for the chicken lollipops we've got the is this the chicken tikka oh wow so it doesn't come with any rice then no okay they're like nibbles and then we've got a nibble of flame lime salad like that okay all right and then we've got like a little dipping plate thing here as well okay so the food is very lovely i'm not a massive fan of spicy food and some of it has quite a kick for me so there wasn't a huge amount on the menu that i love but the pop sticker things what these lollipop things they're quite nice and i like the little dipstick is nice to get that chicken i just wish i had price with it too honestly we should have ordered some on the side it kind of is just a starter tree yeah true we're actually going to swing by my friend bianca's house to drop off a gift and then we'll be heading on home it's been a really long lovely day finished at the restaurant so it's authentic indian street food and they do craft beer there as well if you're interested um very flavorful obviously we didn't have any manes i'm not actually overly hungry we've eaten so much today we did have those ice creams as well so we did have a little we have it in lovely food today um but it's just been a really lovely trip a huge burger at lunch time oh yeah we did have a big lunch food sweet isn't it yeah we don't know it's been good though oh i love it yeah yeah have you had a nice day oh yeah it's been good i've loved hanging out with you yeah it's been lovely and i can't believe how much we squeezed in in a day i think if you plan it well that's the whole thing isn't it if you if you decide what you want to do and then book it all in advance yeah it's been lovely hanging out until next time i wonder where we'll go on our next trippy so we're just going to walk back to the car now and that wraps up our day here in brighton it's been so lovely from the tour we did and going up the british airways i360 it's been a really nice way to spend the day we've been very lucky that it was been sunny and i've just really loved exploring the lanes i could definitely come back here there's so much to see and do and enjoy so just want to say a massive thank you to visit england for having us today let me know if you guys have ever been to brighton what do you recommend so i can come back down here and bring benj but i hope you've enjoyed this please give it a thumbs up make sure you're subscribed all the links you need for a day on brighton to escape every day and have a city break are in the description
