BMW i5 Touring - 5 STYRKER 5 SVAGHEDER

Show Video

If you ask artificial intelligence what a BMW 5 series is all about, it comes with four points, one luxury, two driving characteristics, three technology and four flexibility, and in this video, based on my past week's experiences with this car, I want to give you the five points where I think this car is super cool, but also the five points where BMW could do better, the video here is brought to you in collaboration with energi energi is the energy company I use both for power for my home but also for charging my own electric car and I do it because I like the way things are done I can best describe it as orderliness and then the prices are reasonable the video here is also brought to you in collaboration with the green e When you find a workshop with the green e on the Facade, you will also find a workshop that specializes in servicing and repairing electric and hybrid cars. Last but not least, the video here is also brought to you in collaboration with ktech. ktech are experts in tires and rims for electric cars. Remember that the relevant link is in the video message, support me by using my partners The BMW 5 series is a model series of upper middle class cars from the BMW five series has been on the market since 1972 and since 1991 also as a station wagon what BMW describes as a Turing This is the eighth generation of BMW's five series this one has a model code called g61 because it is a Touring i.e.

a station car if it had been a sedan version it would have been called g60 instead the car is built in German it is built at the almost legendary factory down by The Munich dangle finin factory, where you also build four five six seven and eight series, so this is a testament to the fact that this is a car BMW has really put in the effort to make really, really good Let's talk a little design I think This is a fairly modern interpretation of a BMW 5 series. It has basically always looked like this. Apart from the Chris bangle period with the E60, there are beautiful headlights . is there a need for the large air intake anymore, it's all good when you look at the i5's profile from the side, it doesn't fail either. It's a genuine five series and a fun little fact about it is actually that when it comes to if an i f is a full electric five series versus the more classic five series which you can still get with pistons and cylinder I, then the i fer is actually 2 cm higher and that is because you have to have room for the battery pack that is down here at the bottom, but that has been masked very well in the design. I think it's gone super well. Something else I think is super super cool is that there

's just a little salute back to the BMWs of the past, this little crack that you'll find here at the d-pillar on a station car the c-pillar on a Sedan this is what you call the Hofmeister broken long story short Hofmeister was actually an engineer at BMW who was not a designer but he was given the responsibility that this crack was carried on in BMW's models and here from the back, the design is absolutely not a bad thing either, there is one thing I miss, and it's really mostly for emotional reasons, but it's the case that all five series I've had station cars also there, you could open the rear window separately and then you can just throw a bag down or something, I've never used it very much, they say they use it a lot, but you don't have that option anymore here in the feren, it's a bit of a shame, on the other hand, I think that the rear end of an i5 Touring is far more beautiful than the sedan version, of course just a matter of taste and I don't know, BMW shouldn't stop suggesting exhaust pipes on electric cars when you enter the cabin of an i f'er Well, there's just not much to put a finger on either compared to much else you can get out there So this is at the absolute better end if you are a true BMW enthusiast and if you have a bit of experience on the track then you can perhaps sit and dream 10 20 maybe even 30 years back in time when BMW just might have done a little more with the choice of materials in the cabin. I won't go into the software too much in this video. I've done an in-depth review of the software. I'll also go out and do an Odense challenge later in the video here where we'll to look a little about how, uh, the navigation system at least helps you with route planning, of course it can, ø route planning gives you an estimate of how much power you will get to your destination or your read up, it also pre-conditions your battery, you could actually do that too do it manually FR the screen here it's all super cool It's tastefully done with the curved screen here and as I say in general compared to much else out there today really nice material quality the car here has this huge glass panoramic roof which can be closed with such a curtain which actually also does a lot of good for the noise reduction in the cabin and it's super cool and then there's this uh cabin lighting which is tastefully done it changes in relation to which driving mode you drive in and so on There's not much you can't like the cabin in a five series Then you must also be the type who also doesn't like pizza and coke in the back seat is a BMW F series and here also one in f'er Well, it's as you'd expect anyway if you know the five series well, the five series has never been known to have an enormous amount of space at the back. I'm a meter 576, so there's room for me both of these fronts here They're set to roughly my size and I can fit my feet in under the seat Everything is in principle super good, but if you are close to two meters tall, you have big children who may have grown up well into their teenage years and so on, so it may well start to become a problem and there are just so many others and cheaper electric cars out there that have better space The car here It continues with the same materials on the back seat as on the front seat Which is super Super cool nothing has been saved over here there is usb charging both here and there there are four zoned climate in this one that is heat in the back seat the benefits of this panoramic glass roof it's also super cool when we're talking practicality the bmw it's actually okay I'm here when it's a Turing so first of all the trunk opens mega high up there's good enough this dut there then if you are really tall, you can actually knock your head into it, I think besides that, do you have a regular, large, nice luggage compartment, this is the luggage compartment cover . down here It's super nice and this car actually also has a nice Small detail electric pivoting pull meik The BMW i5 is based on the platform variant clar 2 It stands for Kloster architecture version two this platform shares it with all BMW models with a longitudinal combustion engine or the electric cars, in other words, it is not a dedicated electric car platform and always rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive edrive is rear-wheel drive and xDrive of four-wheel drive these cars have no frunk i5 always has an air suspension with load bearing on the rear axle and this applies to both the Sedan and the Turing versions When we look at the battery pack in a BMW i5, it is down here at the bottom of the car 83.9 kow hours gross, there are 81.2 kow hours Net It is a 400 volt

Architecture and it is a cube containing chemistry the battery pack is in and for not particularly big when you think about What type of car are we talking about here So a five series that has to compete with an A6 and with an eq eer So they are both two cars where they use significantly larger batteries and I'm not sure that this car is not more energy efficient either and thus there will just be less range The V ltp figures also say that there is Hold up the sun has also come out now the car is here It is based on BMW's fifth generation technology or as BMW himself expresses It Gen 5 Technology it covers several things including the battery pack which is located at the bottom of the car in this the battery pack is filled with prismatic cells supplied by catl or Samsung prismatic cells these are slightly more square cells almost like small bags versus the more classic cylindrical cells that you know from Tesla's battery packs, among other things. They are absolutely essential when talking about battery packs in electric cars . when you weigh the Total battery pack and it's really nice but it's not up to par with the very best that you can get at the moment where the total battery pack in electric cars can be just over 160 Watt hours per kilo Then there is the engine type this car runs with what are called ees engines and these are engines that do not have permanent magnet rods in the engine and it gives the advantage that you don't have to mine for this nice Earth material and you can also reduce the cost by producing these engines, in return they take up a bit more and are not as energy efficient when the car, for example, has to accelerate to on the other hand, they should actually be a little more energy efficient when the car just has to maintain a stable speed, for example when you Cruise on the country road or on the motorway. The thing about Ees' engines sounds almost rude, is n't it, it's that they create the magnetism by supply current to coils and windings inside the motor, just like in an induction motor, but in these motors there are also just some brushes down on some slip rings and it is a technology that has been known for 100 years or something like that. It has been used in tools and everything else over many, many years It has only become notorious that these engines need more service because of these brushes and this can create some dust that penetrates into various places But according to BMW, this runs in a hermetically sealed system And there should be no need for more service than with so many other engine types and I have to take that for good products when we talk about charging So I am right now in the process of charging the AC on the car here It does it on three phases 11 kW You can actually buy an additional 22 kW charging on three phases, but consider whether it is something you need DC, on the other hand, it goes away quite quickly This is a 400 volt architecture and therefore Do you have a theoretical maximum just around 200 kilowatts if you have to comply with all standards and so on. And this one does it

up to 205 kilowatts, that's the peak, but it's very short-lived, very Tesla- like down at the lowest end of your state of charge curve of charging curves, but the car here is resigned to the fact that the BMW is only charging from 10 to 80 per in just about half an hour I have DC charged quite a few times on the i5 over time on this battery pack and my experience It is between 30 and 32 minutes You will be waiting for a prek conditioner battery and of course, as mentioned, you can do that both manually in infotainment, but am also navigating towards an hpc charger, I thought I would tell you how this my BMW app can go and become an expensive acquaintance for you, I have also thought me to give you five cool and five uncool things about this car you get an Odense for challenge driving settings BR and a properness and I think you should check their Trust Pilot or try calling their support because then you know what it is I mean in addition to that, the prices are also super fair, energy is just five cents on top of every kilowatt hour I buy from them and their subscription prices are actually also really, really reasonable I have put a link in the video message you can use and if you contact energy then please say hello from my heart when you open this my BMW app and you will meet and something very very classic you can of course Go into your charging mode There you can see how much power is on You can also go in and adjust Uh How much power do you want tomorrow early for example after than charging There are also these completely classic features with lights and lock and climate and all these things but you also have the option to upgrade your car and there you have simply the opportunity to spend even more money on your BMW rear fixed in the i5 Touring Well, I can just say it drives like a real five series where it of course has these different island sound modes different drive modes where the sound is designed by his sim and I've talked about that in other videos with these BMWs So it's not going to go into depth with this car I'm happy about it, among other things, that you can choose to drive ib or id completely As Man know from the MB cars It's the id4 scuter njak Audi Q4 etron and so on but unlike the meb cars you get a much stronger recuperation deceleration, which means a better one pedal drive and even down to a standstill I think it's cool something else there is V what I'm talking about it's on this specific car and this is the one it has integral steering on the rear axle in other words Sarby wire co-steering rear wheel So only the rear wheel is steer by wire But it works in the way that there is a spindle and an electric motor on the rear axle and it causes the rear wheels to tilt a tiny bit, but it is different when you drive slowly, it becomes like an articulated garden tractor, which means that it maneuvers insanely well in, for example, a parking lot it gets a micro Small turning diameter It's super cool when you're lying down, for example, and Cruiser It could be on the highway Well, then the rear wheels control the same direction as the front wheels and that gives the car an even more directional driving and that's that's great, I also want to talk a little about assistant systems, I think the best assistant systems are the ones you get in German cars, so you have to grade the German cars Well, I would still say that BMW and Mercedes They are a little better than for example the meb cars It's not because the mb cars are bad these ones are just exceptionally good for example I just drove into a hall the 70 zone and about 50 meters before the 70 zone Well the car took off just as quietly and I drives into the zone at the speed I have defined and I have defined that the car here Must drive the permitted speed plus 4 km per hour and that thing with being able to define plus 4 km per hour it is actually a really cool function that I miss a bit in the MEB cars because they are also very good at adapting to the correct speed But they always drive the correct speed on the speedometer and the car always drives just a few kilometers an hour slower than what it says and then you really might only be driving 78 in an 80 zone so here Can you tell it I want to drive a little too fast and then it does it instead and it works Spot on something else that is super cool it is auto steering for the first time there is a sensor in it fixed it means that you almost never hear a blip from the car, as long as it feels your hand on the steering wheel, it's happy, but what 's also cool is that if, for example, you see a cyclist or a pedestrian coming on the side of the road, well, you can you can pull out over the middle and back again without getting stuck. You can feel that the car is working against you just a tiny bit, but it feels like you have a grip, but then you are allowed to drive around and then back in. And when you first you're in the lane Well then the car takes over the steering again and keeps you in the center of the road and otherwise I just want to say that the undercarriage in one like this is here It's absolutely fantastic BMW can only make cars that both steer and drive well at the same time that they also have a good deal of comfort and that's what you get here Yes, I can best describe it as a genuine five series I drive on the stretch where I usually test the car's brakes That's how the best cars usually brake from 80 to zero in about 21 meters everything over 27 meters It sucks I'm trying I drive just over 80 three two [Music] such a man 21 meters among the very best We like that Yes such an edrive here It is quite nice for me and if someone asks if you should take an e-drive or an xDrive So I have taken a rear-wheel drive e-drive over an x-drive at some point I simply like the car It drives like a BMW you should really feel rear-wheel drive, I like it, it's fast enough And yes, it also has a smaller engine, so you also get a bit more range. What's not to like? Now I'm driving this stretch where I want to measure the noise level in the cabin and it's in fact such that right now I can't close this glass roof because I have a huge suction cup with a camera sitting in the glass roof and there 's also this curtain You can drive for which actually makes an audible difference, so now I'm just trying to silence a moment 61 DB it's actually really nice and as mentioned with an open glass roof This is Smedegade and if you often watch my channel you know what's going on now Smedegade It's a beautiful old medieval-like street with cobblestones that are super uneven and I now intend to drive downhill with approximately 15 km in it the hour to see if there is something rattling in this BMW i5 There is actually something here if you can hear it some resonance Ew it's actually a bit disappointing H Oh well It's time for us to have done the most important discipline for this car This here it is a five series It must be able to eat some highway and battery size I have been inside It is not as big as what you find with the competitors So let's do an Odense challenge and such an Odense challenge It is actually also super good at just uncovering some of the very basic things like artificial intelligence, of course also believe that five series It's about I also agree It's some technology and it's some Comfort and so on and that's why I find myself now at Esbjerg Airport I don't last in charging facilities because I actually already keep him with 80 per state of Charge so what I'm just going to do is to jump into it Let me just quickly say I have 80 per state of Charge because that's how I usually do my Odense challenge and it's not because the battery can't hold up to 100 It can easily do that, it's more to simulate, for example, the trip to Gardersøen and so on where you typically want to keep this half-hour break and then you charge to 80 PR and then you're on Uhm and therefore I start with 80 per it also gives me that slightly more realistic range that is between Let Stop on long trip Let 's start by going in in the navigation system it is traditionally quite good in BMWs they usually hit fairly well and I navigate towards the lathe, the lathe comes up and it says 11 km it is so as the crow flies there are 129 see 129 km the car says we arrive with 45 per state of charge via this route, which is the E20 motorway, i.e. motorway the whole way. I have 80 per right now. This means that the car expects

me to have a consumption of 35 per point on the 129 km of motorway where I drive with the highest permitted speed, I think we'll just have to see how to get going [Music] it's unbelievably crap weather outside but this It's an e 40 That means it's a rear-wheel drive in f'er and therefore I'm still going to make an acceleration Stestrup I'm doing a 0 to 130 on the access ramp to the E20 motorway Race box it's sitting here in the windscreen before then of course I have to set the car up in the right mode It's the case that the car here also has this boost button like that one change the padel over on the left side where you get a little extra power for a short time, of course I intend to use it, I put it on sports, then the seats just close a little around the back of one and we try three two one Go Ah fine surplus if we just take a quick look at the numbers here ul to 100 in 5.89 [Music] seconds not bad I have a state of charge right now of 71 per 30 to 130 7.17 and 0 to 130 8.85 so of a rear-wheel drive electric car Then it's definitely approved the trip continued east in rain and shine in the car's navigation system I could follow the estimate for How much power I wanted to arrive with and it changed along the route In fact so much that I was a little surprised I'm so one more We need to talk about whether I'm ahead with 33 per point, that means I've had a consumption of 47 per point on the trip over here Yes it's gotten worse mucky weather I've had headwinds and so on but still I'm going to have to charge on the road home I did n't expect that for 9 f on the trip to the west FR the car's navigation system far more realistic it suggested a stop in seven minutes at lillebæt north The stop weighed exactly as the car predicted and I could cover the last stretch where the car's estimate was close to perfect It was quite frankly a cold performance of the i7 in my Odense challenge here both in terms of consumption and thus range but also in the software where I don't quite understand what happened because the miscalculation that the software makes in the eastern trip I've never seen that before I've driven an i4 I've driven an i5 I've driven an i7 and I've driven them both summer and winter and I've never experienced anything like this where it's raining so badly and funny enough I then made the new Destination towards Esbjerg again well then everything was perfect again as I expected it calculated within 1% correctly of where I would arrive in Esbjerg with it calculated exactly how long I had to charge How much and where and so on everything was perfect I just don't know And when I look at the car's consumption and thus the range So there is really room for improvement now it was like that I had to leave for six and a half minutes and it took just over eight minutes from the FR I drove of the motorway to drive on the motorway again and therefore I only had an average speed for the whole trip of 112 km per hour, if I hadn't had to do it, the average speed would have been just over 120 km in Tim 120 something came up but the trip over that means towards Odense there I had a direct headwind and as you could see in the video, it was bad weather and the temperatures weren't very high either, so the total consumption was over and back home, it ended up being 200 and approximately 60 Watt hours per kilometer and if I calculate that behind it will correspond to me from 100 and down to 0 per state of charge Under the conditions at the speeds I drove today will have a practical range of no more than 310 to 320 km and that is therefore in the low end and especially when we are talking about a car of this caliber enough numbers geekery Let's move on to five cool and five uncool things about a BMW i5 Touring the first cool thing about this car is the way it drives the driving characteristics of this car They are excellent here from the driver's seat there are up to several things I would like to highlight on my list of good things about a BMW i5 Place number two on the list It is the car's assistance systems it is simply excellent and I would like those assistance systems just for today's occasion combine with the car's lights and light strip strength I would like to highlight by the way it is the technology in the car yes I am well aware that it has this cruel f it does on my Odense challenge where it calculates incorrectly but that is the only time It have done it all the other times I have had in the week that I have driven the car the other BMWs with the same control system I have driven It has worked absolutely fantastic and therefore I am willing to forgive this error also because the app also plays really well with the car, the fact that you can also use the app as a key to the car, for example I didn't mention that in my video, but you can do that completely, so you know it from, for example, Tesla and so on. It's insanely cool and the same game

the technology in general in the i5 It is insanely good and then there is a fourth point that I would like to highlight as insanely cool about the car here It is such a point that you often overlook because it is what you overlook when works very well and it's the car's air conditioning system It works really well Now we've had both semi-warm days and we've had some really wet days and I 've never had any problems with Duk or bad indoor climate in the car So that's it thumbs up fifth and last point on the positive list It's a subjective thing on my part but I'd like to be allowed to I think this car is beautiful it radiates just the right thing it has class it looks good when it comes running so thumbs up for that, but of course I have also prepared a list for you with five decided weaknesses of a BMW i5 Turing. At the top of the list is what I have just uncovered in my Odense challenge, namely the car's range if you compare this car with an eqe and with the upcoming Audi A6 Avant So they are both two cars that come with a significantly larger battery than this car They have a net capacity of 95 96 kow hours while this one is just over 81 kow hours net capacity in the long term That will so of course it will probably get better because what you see is that these battery packs just become more energy dense year by year and at some point this car comes into its own, but when you make a five series that just isn't able to drive more than a good 300 kilometers of motorway on an autumn day in Denmark Yes, that's the number point number two that doesn't put me in the Christmas mood, it's the factory warranty you get on such an expensive car like a BMW 5 series R, two years, but with free mileage, that's what you get, then you get the classic OT year or 160,000 kilometer warranty on the battery, but yes, you can also buy this BMW repair inclusive, which is something like a factory warranty Terms that can be extended but it's still just not good enough third thing on the negative list It's the price of the pig a car like this one starts at just under DKK 6,100,000 but it's quite common knowledge that a car like this can easily sting personally, I wouldn't have bought a BMW without some kind of msport package and preferably the one called msport package Pro and then things just start to run fast and then BMW has just put together all the packages so that you constantly want to choose more for a car like this one that's scratched, it's just not cool fourth point on the negative List It's the space conditions in the cabin especially here in the back seat m No actually I had decided that the fifth thing on the negative List should be the missing frunk out front but here in recording for a while there I changed my mind and then I thought It may well happen that I have praised the technology in this car but the error it makes during the mine for the challenge I simply want to highlight as something negative and whether it is a bug or what it is, I should n't be able to say, but if I now shout a little about it, it could be BMW correcting it because it's really, really a cool feature to be able to drive and therefore I stand out a bit on it and It will therefore be the fifth thing on my list. That is, the one that makes mistakes. It is of course up to you how heavily these strengths and weaknesses are weighted . because it is a question of whether the i5 lives up to these four basic elements that I, at the beginning of this video, looked it up via artificial intelligence and actually agree with luxury myself, is the car luxurious Yes, I think so, the driving characteristics are in two top Yes, to the extent the technology What do I think, besides the error that I experienced at my Odense challenge, it is definitely also at the very best end of the field and then there is the flexibility and that is perhaps where I think I Fem fails because range knowledge the isn't where it should be I don't think and then there's the space in the cabin which could also be better if you like more videos about electric cars then Check out the video that's right over here where I'm standing with piv piv gun fingers there you can press if that 's how you'd like to be a free subscriber to my channel Remember to check out all the exciting and relevant links in the video and remember to also take care of yourself and each other on YouTube and speak nicely in the comments section Hey
